I had $ 12,000 anybody know you, okay, sis, what's up, what's poppin welcome back to my channel or welcome to my channel if you are new, I'm Mercedes and today's video is clearly gon na be about whether or not you can say Shopify and I'm still here So if you don't know I own a hair company and within my hair company, I have a wholesale program. So this is a question. I have been getting a lot lately, so I wanted to go ahead and just make a video. I was initially just gon na sing it to my customers when they asked, but you know what so I'm about to say a one-word answer such as yes or no. So yes, please, don't click out the video because it is more to it than just this. One-Word answer: okay, um! I did not need you mad at me. If you decide to click out the video and tonight, because YouTube's a day, I can't affect the pride mere thought she said. I can take the pennies. The girl from YouTube told you to watch the whole video see so don't go berating me. So can you or can you not take Shopify or have a Shopify website and sell hair? The answer is yes, you can. You can definitely have your hair extensions business on Shopify, so here's the thing that people fail to understand. You can sell pretty much whatever you want, someone Shopify, but you cannot take Shopify payments and have a hair business because Shopify, along with a lot of other people merchants. They look at hair extensions as a high-risk item and it is because, unfortunately, people like to scale really heavy in this community sis. So it's something you have to deal with and unfortunately is just one of the downsides. There are pros and cons to everything you sell, whether it's hair or whether it is whatever you choose to see. Stop I'm gon na be looking down at there's no books. It'S, I don't think I'm checking myself out, because I do look a little cute, but we know so anyways um, here's the thing you must have a third-party processing company, such as PayPal, stripe square or some something like that. You must have that type of thing. In order to sell your hair on Shopify, so you know those people are going to charge you a percentage of yourself now here's thing about shop size. I personally don't like this. However, I love Shopify as a whole, so it wouldn't deter me from having a Shopify. Now, even though they don't allow you to sell hair extensions, since they still take a percentage of yourself, so let's say, for example, you sell the $ 400 a week. Okay Shopify still is going to take 2 % because they're charging you for not using Shopify payments. Even though they're the reason you're not taking Shopify payments, but this is the thing about owning your own business and it's really it's a beautiful thing. You make the rules so just like you're gon na make your rule says. If I say these are our rules and you can like it or you can go so because it okay, no shame no shame could be cartels. My first website and I made me a little check on for Big Cartel. So please my shake. I can't I'm trying to make sure I covered everything because, like I said this is gon na be a very quick video. So, Oh the third-party processing company, I'm gon na, speak more so about PayPal, because that's who I use through my Shopify, you see you strike, but that's gon na be another video as far as I like the and why but a PayPal typically I'm gon na round It up and say they take 3 %. So if you have a $ 400 item, Shopify is going to take 2 %, so you have to pay Shopify $ 8 and then you have to turn around and pay PayPal, 3 %, which is $ 12. So, instead of just paying as well, unfortunately, you do have to pay 20, but Shopify again they are a really great website. So trust me, sis when I say it is most definitely worth it in my opinion and for the websites that I have used. I would not mind giving Shopify their 2 %, it is per sale, so it is 2 % per sale. So if you get 10 people that $ 400 and they charge you eight you're going to pay that 8 times 10 Mike, it is what it is. It is what it is now the thing about the Shopify payments versus like your PayPal, your stripe. They take their money, PayPal and stripe these merchants. They take their money out of yourself instantly so before it even cashes out to you they've already gotten paid the thing with Shopify. Is it doesn't work like that? Excuse me, Shopify is going to charge you on a 30-day billing cycle. So if you, if your bill is due on every 19th of the month, that's when you're gon na have to pay all of those combined. So if you have 10 orders and then equalled up to let's say you have to pay over 150 dollars, you're gon na pay that 150 dollars plus your subscription fee. Excuse me most people use the basic plan, which is $ 29, so it'll be 150 plus that 29 or you know it's gon na change every month, based on how much business you have but um seriously, since the goal is for you to be making so much Money that you don't even care about that little percent right, that's my goal. I have always said that 2 % - it is it's worth it. Okay, it really is worth it so um. The thing also with Shopify is: if it's over $ 200, I don't know if that's the default setting, but that's what I have my going. When i owe or that's what mine came on when i owe more than $ 200 Shopify go, they pull their money out. They go ahead and take that money and then they break it up. You know so like if I old shops I $ 500 they're, not gon na, take $ 500 on that 19 that I owe them they're gon na go ahead and take their money out soon. As I know more than $ 200, so that's how that works and again says all. I know it really really is worth it so, okay, so initially I wasn't gon na put this part in the video, but I was lying. Why not is it's an experience and I truly feel like if I'm making mistake, I wan na teach you how to not make that mistake. Cuz. It really doesn't make sense how people will really know that? Oh no, I can help these people, but now I learnt it on my own. I would make them learn all day. Oh, I hate that. No, I'm not gon na. Let you make this mistake, because this is honestly one of the best day, slash worst day slash. I never cry so much in my life days like since it was a. It was just a roller coaster. So the reason that I am so I'm so familiar with if you can or can't sell um hair on shop fire is when I first got my Shopify. I decided to go ahead and steal my hair, because I wasn't familiar with PayPal and I had heard so many horror stories about PayPal. I was like mommy, I was just taking Shopify now I have read I'm gon na be honest because that's just oh, I read that you weren't supposed to fill here and take Shopify payments, but I don't know what else to do thought about. Okay. Well, you know when they stopped me, you know it'll, probably be far down the line because I see so many people taking Shopify payments. I'M sorry, okay, yeah! So if they stopped me down the line, then I'll deal with it I'll deal with the you know, Christmas Dean, so cool open up my website. Everything is great. I have like a premier, my yeses, I'm promoting to my customers, because I had a very successful B car sale website and the customers that I have like. I am so thankful for them. My god, great customer base is phenomenal. Like my sister, I love them and it's real genuine, like I feel like they understand that it's not just about their money, it's really deeper than that, like we really friends for real like seriously so anyways, I have a very great first day on my website right, So my little thing when you got Shopify is like a chicken to change to take money to change was going off since I'm feeling like all about the Benjamins when, when the lottery numbers came on TV girl, I'm feeling good. So everything is going good and I get a Google email and I'm like or Google notification that I have an email invite. Okay, let me check this out so something about Shopify. So I get on my Shopify website and it says your payments are on hold and I'm like, oh my god, you got ta be kidding me like. I know it did happen on first day like what so automatically says, I'm panicking, because you know I had already sold like the hair that I had in stock. I had already sold that and I have a very great relationship with my main factor. So I'm like. Okay, cool: I can get this hair real, fast turnaround, you know and flip it, because some people, most people give their hair, like some people get their hair like eight days. My knee my spine would like this. So I'm like hey. What'S up girl, I need it. I need it, what can you do? I need it overnight it so that was gon na, be what I did, but when this sensor payments were on hold that how to everything, because I'm ago in Texas it was a little over $ 12,000 and I didn't have twelve thousand dollars to pay for the Hair that I needed at the time, because I just did a thesis I was like what on how old and I'm like. Are you serious God give it the guy taking away of says? But it was a lesson and the lesson was: if you don't want something done to you, don't do it. Somebody else, so I shouldn't have been playing with Shopify rules. If I don't want people playing with my rules - and I feel like there was just God teaching me their license, it's because I knew that I wasn't supposed to taking payments, and I said I deal with it when he came. Unfortunately, it came sooner than I thought it would and I ended up losing a lot of money on that day, because this was back before I understood the importance of keeping up with your customers through email. So everybody didn't have a you know. I couldn't reach everyone. Some people were coming from Instagram. You know I made a post on my Instagram, but everybody everybody doesn't have Instagram. So some people just literally didn't know what we're going. What was going on and I didn't recapture those orders I just lost out on them. I started taking cash out payments and I'm gon na put some screenshots somewhere, so y'all can really see that damn this girl sitting the truth um out - and I told a few of my customers what was going on and they felt so bad. For me I was I'm so sorry Sadie's one girl. I will never forgive me. She told me she was like. I send the money to Mars. If I needed to - and I was but sis I was so happy and so sad at the same time. But that's how I know whether or not you can or can't accept chuckle five minutes, and I hope that you truly learn from my mistakes and if you know you can't do some states, don't do it don't do it don't mean test the waters when you come To your business, because when it comes to your business, be as legit as you can, because it's something you don't want people to be able to come in and take it from you. Because that's what happens to me since man, your girl, was legitimately crying like it was like. I had $ 12,000 and did I have enough work so imagine that this like? Are you serious? So don't do it, but yeah that wraps up this little portion and we're gon na go ahead and finish the video. This video was quick, I'm proud of myself, because I said I wanted to keep this under 10 minutes, because you know we had things to do with always faces, so I hope it was helpful. But I also sell hair, just starting out and I do have PayPal as well but while I was setting it up they told me since I'm new they would put a hold on my payments until the customer received their items. I believe there were 3 different criteria this was based on: sales, the amount of time you've been active and something else. Well sis, this doesn't work for me because I do use the preorder system. Do you have any advice???
