Hi Nova Glover keep watching to see how I turned a January by John Renault in 10 RH 14 into the tougher I'm currently wearing. I in fact turn this into a three-quarter wig. So if you need a little additional coverage, I'll explain how to do that too. So without further ado here we go. I'M gon na show you how to turn basically any wig into a topper and in this case we're going to be turning a January by John Bruno in the color 10 art age 16 into a full coverage, topper or 3/4 wig so and I'll show you how To do just a regular topper too, if that's more your speed now, why might somebody want to make their own topper instead of 5? Well, that should be pretty obvious. It'S you can make your own toppers. Then you have a large variety of hair, textures, hair, fibers construction styles at your disposal and you can customize it so that way it covers you just as much as you need. This is particularly important for people who need 3/4 wigs, I'm probably in that category, because look how sparse the hair is on the top of my head. Well, that means that a lot of like the easy parts or the smaller toppers are just not going to be adequate for me, because the clips are going to attach in the location where I don't have enough hair to support them and then it'll pull my hair At all cost tension headaches, I might lose more hair in the process from the traction, so that's just better to avoid and on board there's just not a huge variety of 3/4 Whigs out there and a 3/4 wick is a full wig that basically just doesn't have An ape so it's missing like this back portion and there that way you can integrate your hair in the back and then the wig adheres in a location a little bit further back where you have enough hair that it's not going to hurt you. So I like that versatility, and I think that by showing you how you can do this, I think that it will open up a whole new world and I almost broke out in a song. You know - and this may even be a great hack for somebody who just has a frustrating difficult time, finding weeks that fit properly. Maybe this is a nice route instead, because you can incorporate your hair in the back, but it'll give you lots of coverage up front. So that way, you don't have to worry about whether or not it fits you properly, it's open in the back, so you can kind of fidget with it and make it work. What are you going to need for this wig hat? Well, this is a really inexpensive hack aside in the possible way, because that varies depending what kind of wig a peg but just be a dime-store sewing kit, but has needle old brother and some thread. You need pressure, sensitive Clips and these are Jawa. No pressure. Sensitive clips in the large size, you're also gon na need just a pair of shears. It doesn't have to be a fancy pair of shears. These are regular. Will craft shears you're going to want to ascertain how big you need this topper to be? But let's say you just want typical topper coverage. You know you just want it to be like in this area here, you're in luck, because your wig, no matter what the cap construction is going to have a seam right there, and this one is no different. Even hand-tied are going to have a seam in that location. You see I'm talking about that horseshoe here. Well, if you just want to pull topper coverage, you just cut all the tracks and the ear top tabs off here along this seam. Take your time go really really slow, really slow, especially near that you're to have the lace front, because you'll want to make sure any cuts you make to the lace front are very smooth, and that way you don't end up with fraying, but I don't want to Go that far, I basically want the topper to go all the way around the wig and line up at the bottom of the ear tabs to make a three-quarter wig. So that is even easier right on this elastic here at the bottom of that weft right next to the ear tab. Okay, see how I severed that you're, basically just going to follow that track, see some following the track in a straight line and I'm gon na cut it right at the bottom of that track. So the elastic is intact. You'Re, just gon na keep doing that. All the way around being careful not to cut the hair, and whenever I do an alteration on the wig like let's say I cut a lace front off or something like that for any any purpose. I always keep the pieces. You know it's not that I'm a hoarder, but you never know you might want to make a halo out of this leftover hair or something like that. You know make a hat way, so there's no reason to really throw it out, especially with lace, fronts and stuff. You can always add a lace front to a wig grip and make your own lace front. Wig grip, it's it's not nearly as expensive as trying to buy lace, front, wig grip and you can get synthetic that way, which is also super hard. I look so creepy when I'm staring up like know the you know a lot of those quick grips. Oh, I have marker on my hand, a lot of those wig grips. They they become in human hair and not everybody needs anything that fancy I mean. I prefer synthetics and I own a whole store. I mean I just I changed my hair too frequently to really adopt human hair and earnest, though I do have some really nice human hair. Wigs now, like I said you can keep this part. If you want, you can make like a little halo. If you keep this or something like that, you know a little mini hat wig or you can always use this bit to put more volume in another wig or something like that. So you never know, especially if you like getting crafty with your wigs, it's always nice to keep that stuff around. So so, as you can see here, this is basically a wig. Without an ape, you still have a lace front intact. We haven't done anything to the lace front, the back and the legs in those areas. We did not alter the hair, we didn't cut the hair, so that's gon na make life nice and easy. So now the next thing to do is you know open up. Your sewing kit so got a needle. We got thread. Yeah threader you'll want to make sure that you secure this bottom most left to the elastic. If any of the pieces are loose or they look like they might come loose. You'Ll want to take care of that and kind of gently, reinforce it with a needle and thread, so we're done reinforcing all the tracks so that way, they're all attached to that bottom, most elastic. So what are we gon na do now? Well now we got ta figure out where we want to put our Clips. No perfect, I'm going to put one on each of the ear tabs all right. Let'S sew these puppies in place. You'Ll want to make sure that the clip side is up with this little pressure-sensitive part here. This little rubberized part is down. Okay and you'll want to remember that you're going to be grabbing the hair as it comes either in or out so you'll have to decide which weight you want the clips to go. If you have Stoppers at home - and you want to use those for reference on how to position, the clips wouldn't be a bad thing, so I've done both with these clips in on the ear tabs. You know you can tell I'm not like a seamstress. I they're not very neatly put in there, it doesn't matter, you don't be good at sewing to do this. For me, I'm usually kind of a side part or so I don't even know. If I would be posed to clip in here or not, I may just resort to using waste tape, because this whole top is monocle. If that's up to you, you can also opt to sew in a clip here right on that pulling urethane strip. So I definitely want to put thumb back here. I think I'm only going to put two clips back here. I think that's actually gon na be good enough, and so now that I've got my two Clips onin in the back and I've got my two clips on your tab. I think I'm basically ready to put this one on. So this is what it looks like this. All my hair here on the sides a little bit darker, but I kind of wanted to lighten it up a little bit. Look like I had highlights and it feels pretty secure on. So let me turn around for you, so I can show you what this one looks like. I don't know about you, but I think January makes a darling topper. This is a really nice one to play around with, and I'm very excited to wear this out and about - and it probably took me, I think, about an hour total to make the whole thing and that's just because I'm not a seamstress, I'm not really great. With a needle and thread, but if you're in the same position, then that should be really encouraging and indicate to you that even if you're, not real great with a needle and thread, you can make any wig a topper pretty darn easily. So, thank you so much for watching. If you like what we do, please be sure to subscribe to my youtube channel check out my wig store. If you get a chance, that's where you can see January in regular wig form, as opposed to you know, wiggle it like this and until next time. I hope you have a great afternoon bye, bye,

Dee Statham: ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE ON YOU! I've done this and it works great! It's also a great way to make use of those wigs I'm not wearing because I've decided I prefer toppers! Great video. BTW, you can also use very fine fishing line (yes, I said fishing line) instead of thread. I've been a seamstress all my 71 years and eventually thread dry rots but with fishing line that fits through a needle, those clips will never go anywhere. Quilting thread is another good option. I got lazy once and tried crazy glue, but it didnt work.

TIme Enough: What a great tip!!!! I love this idea and it's a great way to use old wigs...also much cooler in the summer too. Thanks Heather!

Joyce Bokman: I love it! I'm going to try this on some of my old wigs. It looks adorable on you!

Marjorie Burnett: Absolutely adorable! You look so pretty in this topper! Great job! My favorite video, can't wait to try this!

Erica Simons: I want to thank you for making these video's. You have changed my wig game. Thanks again . Ps you look amazing !

Itsmyhairiboughtit !!: I often do this and trust me I can barely sew! it gives you so many more colour and texture options and I find it works out cheaper at times too. I did it with my amore laurel and a shilo too. Just choked on my kit kat laughing when you said you looked creepy.. you do crack me up!

Becky C.: I was just thinking about doing this with a mono top lace front wig I have! What timely advice. Thank You!

Katie D: You are a life saver! I love toppers over wigs now! I followed your video and it really did work! I had a wig I didn't wear because it makes my head hot. I made it into a topper and now I wear it ALL THE TIME! BTW, you look adorable!

Anna Sterling: It looks so pretty on you. Thank you - most wigs I see are either straight or too curly. This one is perfect and it suits you so well.

Purse Lady: This is just what I need!! I'd really be afraid of cutting the wig as I've never done it. It looks beautiful on you!

raeann cardoza: This is EPIC!! what a wonderful idea. I think I'm going to change my haute into a topper. I can't find a shape like that in a premade topper and I get to control the density and heat style!!

Julee Hastings: Love that color and style on you. It looks fabulous!

Linda Fusco: I MADE MY MILA OM 3/4 WIG AND IT LOOKS GREAT I LOVE SHADED PRALINE FROM YOUR CLOSEOUTS!

DaWahine79: That's exactly what I want as a topper!!!

Linda Fusco: THAT LOOKS AMAZING THANKS FOR THE INFO!

Kimberly Kramerich: That looks Sooooo good! Thx for the topper tips :-)

Laura Zarate: After cancer treatment, my hairline is thinner and Ive been really sad. I will turn my wigs into toppers!! I want to feel confident and myself again! Thank you for making this video ❤

Brenda Botzer: Thank you so much Heather. I bought Tony of Beverly Hunter because it looked so great on you but the cap is too big. I must be a petite so I'm going to cut her since I love it.

Karen Anne: This topper looks great on you. If I were you, I'd wear this one all the time. I'd love to do one myself but I'm too afraid I'd mess it up. I'm not crafty at all and I'd probably cut in the wrong place.

Katharine Holland: Wow! You just helped me so much. I just did this to a Noriko Joli. It’s much better and more natural.x

Simone Covell: Thank you for this tutorial. It was a little difficult to tell where to cut due to lighting. Would it be possible to do another video with the weft demarcated in some way?

agedjake: Thank you for taking the time to do this when you have so much on your plate. Glad to see that you are sitting down and "resting". Best wishes.

C Ellis: This is great as some wigs are actually of better quality and you get more hair for your money but for me, I don't like the large caps as I don't need them....so turning them into a topper means you are getting more hair for your money and getting the right size of base for you...great....You look super cute in that xx

claudianowakowski: Thank you! I am going to try this. I still have a decent amount of hair in the back and do not need a full wig. IMO, toppers do not come in enough lengths. I want a long one. I also like some of the novelty colors not available in toppers.

Mandy T: Love it! Excellent video, thanks for sharing.

Jeannette Burch: Thank you so much for this. I’m thinning at the front only. I’ve lost my hairline and bangs. I have lots of hair in back area. Do you think there is a way to modify a topper to use as more of a bang piece and less hair in the back? Please help

Deborah McAdam: Great job! Thank you so much!

Wanda Toote: Thank you. I couldn't see where you sewed it to reinforce after cutting it. But this is great.

Catherine Sarabia: Thank you for a wonderful tutorial, you look very cute ❤️

Julie Mann: This is so helpful--I'm still not quite sure where you cut it, but I need to do this on a wig. Thank you.

Donna Dodd: Morning Heather... ok, as you may know it’s scorching here in UK & I’ve just been toying with the idea of transforming my January into a topper.. #blessed ... I found this tutorial I’m not sure I understand step 4... but I have some sewing experience, so will see if I can understand once I cut it... #outofmycomfortzone

Linda Fusco: YOU LOOK ADORABLE IN THIS HAND MADE TOPPER THANKS FOR SHARING I WILL SHARE THIS ON MY FACEBOOK !

Theatre Wave: I like it, It's fantastic and useful for me, Thank you so much...

Mimi: Beautiful!!

Kill My Dream Dorothy: Heather, thank you for this video. I don't think enough people are aware how easy it is to make your own 3/4 topper! I was one of those people for a long time and I was always stuck wearing styles that didn't suit me like the Milan by Noriko. While I love the Milan, it just never looked right with my wavy, curly hair and I didn't want to straighten my hair all the time. Also even after i straightened my hair, the texture still never matched bc I don't have sleek shiny hair. It just looked weird. One of the main reasons I like to make wigs into toppers is because I get very bad headaches with any wig...even the larger sized ones. It's very frustrating. Do you have any ideas on how I can make a wig larger? Would it be weird if I cut the elastic from the base of a full wig and put clips in instead of making a topper? Sometimes I want to wear a wig shorter than my bio hair. Thanks!

Kathleen Ryan: That was great! Thank you. :-)

burrie bettcher: thank you soooo much.. I can not get wigs to fit my head right... and toppers work great.. just not a wide selection out there... this is awesome

Linda Fusco: I MADE A 3/4 WIG WITH MY MILA . ITS NOT TO SMALL NOW . YOU CAN SEW IT ON YOUR HAT THAT WOULD BE COOK FOR SUMMER! FOR THE END S!

Melissa Edwards: You are a genius! I am so glad I found you! I wear a large size in many wigs so it limits what I can get. I have some inexpensive wigs that I would like to try this on first. I'm not sure about some of your terminology as I've not learned it yet. Like you, my hair is thin on top so a topper has not worked for me either. No place to clip it. Is a track the elastic? Is the weft the pieces that go the other direction? Sorry for all the questions.

Sharon La Tour: Really cute on you and you look great in it!!

Gantsilyo Baguio: You're so pretty! Yeah I tried this on a wig. Worked ok! =) Thanks

Toppers, Wigs, Extensions Oh My: Thank you thank you for this video!!!

Cathy's Creation and vlog: I loved this video!!

Norma Ellis: Looks great

Bear Hands Art Factory: Hi thanks for the info. I didn’t quite understand what you were doing with the sewing bit, after cutting. Is there a video with a close up of the actual stitching you did. I only own toppers right now, but my hair is so thin, I can see me doing this in the near future. Thanks for your help.

sshikles: I do this to accommodate my large head, and because I can’t stand the nape area as it NEVER fits my head correctly.

Linda Fusco: THERE IS ANOTHER SITE THAT TELL YOU HOW TO DO THIS .TOO. BOTH HAVE GOOD IDEAS TOPPERS ARE GREAT FOR SUMMER . THERE SHE IS DOWN BELLOW RIGHT TURN A WIG INTO A CUSTOM TOP PIECE. GOOD LUCK!

susan henshall: Can you make a topper out of a closure wig please?

Linda Jansen: Awesome!!!

AdamGermaineTheCreator: Yes!!!! Love this idea!

Bible Believer: So cute and looks natural.

Carrie: Do you need an open wefted wig for this?? Thanks

American Made: OMG.. Usually wear topper s..I'm 72.. Got a wig n HATE it.. I'm gonna make a topper!!! Thank you for this sweetheart..

Mary M: I have a long wig I would like to turn into a topper & shorten as well. Will cutting off the wefts at the nape area shorten the wig if it is a layered wig?

Bobbie Crutchfield: very helpful

katlady5000: I have problems with curly wigs tangling in the nape of the neck. If I convert to a 3/4 wig will it eliminate this problem. The wig looks super cute on you. I like the blonde highlights.

Natasha Skinner: Good stuff thanks,

Moni: This is not meant to be patronizing but you speak very eloquently. It's very pleasant to hear someone confidently phrase things so precisely, rather than apologetically talking in half-slang.

Candy Feyrer: Looks great WoW

edin shealtiel: GENIUS .....THANKS

Bored Weegie: Well how do you turn a wig with lace construction into a hair topper?? You said any wig but can't see the tracks to cut off on the lace construction wigs.

joan reese: WoW! Thanks

Arthur Kurtzhall: =O Holy crap! Was that a brand new wig she just cut up?

Terri Dunkel: Thanks Heather, wish the lighting was better as you cut it ,it is hard to see where you cut..you are so crafty ...

Nicola Hoult: my fav on you x

Kimberly Kramerich: Incredibly cute on you

mandaqu: Can I ask why you’re making toppers from a wig rather than buying a topper?

Brenda Botzer: That's a great idea if you have a petite head in which your choices are limited.  I'm going to do this.  Thanks Heather for all your videos.

Sensual Smith: Nice.

Julia Dawnyel: So cute

Prince Kyran: you look like kelly clarkson wearing the wig

akalegs: What's a "dime store"? Sorry, couldn't resist.
