When it comes to Lace Wigs, Closures, & Frontals, one of the most common questions I get is about how to stop the hair from matting at the root.

In most cases, this happens because the turnovers are too long, and there's one simple trick to remedy that problem. Check out this video to see how to prevent this from happening to you.

Two questions that I get a lot when it comes to matting of lace. Wigs. Number one is: how can I stop my wig from matting at the root And the other question I get from multiple students is: what do you suggest for cutting the turnovers out? Do you like doing that? Do not like doing that, And here is my answer. ( upbeat hiphop, music, ), ♪, Breslin, Breslin ♪ ♪, Author and the speaker, ♪ ♪ Master, stylist, ♪, ♪ Usin', every gift. I am having a webinar on September 30th at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.. You don't wan na miss it.. The title of the webinar is 10 Ways To Make Money with Lace Wigs. Now one of the biggest misconceptions about how to make money with lace. Wigs is that you have to sit down and have to ventilate all day to make money, making lace, wigs or that you have to just put them on and that you can't do anything else. That couldn't be further from the truth., The biggest thing that people don't Even realize is that there are multiple different ways that you can make money with lace. Wigs and my webinar is gon na. Tell you all about it., It's a free, webinar, it's limited registration. So be sure you go over to the website to sign up. I'll. Put the link you'll see the link come up here in the video it might be showing right, now. And it'll also be depending on where you're watching this in the description box, in the comments section or somewhere., But you cannot miss it. You have to be there to sign up for the webinar., It's going to be absolutely amazing and it's going to be live.. It is not pre-recorded., I'm going to be live., So I'm really excited.. I want you to be there and I don't want you to miss out., But I know that registration is going to fill up fast, so don't miss out on that. All right. So now let me get into the reason why I'm recording this video.. I get so many questions about the two questions that I get a lot when it comes to matting of lace. Wigs. Number one is: how can I stop my wig from matting at the root And the other question I get from multiple students is: what do you suggest for cutting the turnovers out? Do you like doing that? Do you not like doing that, And here is my answer., And this answers both questions. Number one in order to stop the matting, that's at the root of your wig closure, frontal. Whatever it is, you wanna go and cut those turnovers.. Some people call them turnovers. Some people call them returns it just all depends. All right. So I like to cut my turnovers out., I like to go back and cut'em out.. It allows the hair to lay the way it's supposed to lay, and it also makes for a beautiful piece.. Now, there's a specific way that you do this well, there's a way that I like to do it and you're gon na need in order to do this, you'll just need a rat tail. Comb and you'll need your shears. Okay. I got my shears tucked under my leg over here.. Okay, now, let me just say: this. Half of well not half.. I would say a quarter of this piece is ventilated by me and the other part is manufactured right. So, even if you have a manufactured piece, you can still go back and cut the turnovers out and allow for it to lay nice and flat okay. So a part of this that's already laying flat is my work, and this part over here that looks like it has a little bit of texture to it. Most of that is the manufactured work.. So when I cut these turnovers out, you'll see how it looks on both sides., Primarily, I think., I think I'm gon na go back that far. All right. So what you wan na do is you wan na take your rat tail comb and you want to grab tiny, tiny little sections of hair at a time all right When you do that, you wanna, take the back end of the tail of the rat tail comb And you're just gon na rub that hair back and forth, and you see as I do, that the little hairs are sticking up.. What you're gon na do is you're gon na take those hairs that are sticking up.. Now, here's the thing that I do that's a little bit different from the traditional way of doing this. Most of the time. This is just cut straight across and cut blunt.. I don't like to do that because, sometimes, depending on the texture of the hair, that hair can stick up, and I don't like to do that. So I like to go in and point cut to add a little bit of texture to make those ends a little Bit jagged, so it doesn't stick straight up. Now this is not always the case. You'll find instances where, if you cut straight across it's totally fine. Listen. This is my personal preference. Okay, So I'm just gon na go in and I'm gon na point cut. Actually I'mma. Do it like this. Point cut those out. Once you do that. Now. I still see some sticking up right here. So I'll just go in cut those little pieces out and move on okay. My next section same thing. All right. I actually did this for a piece that I was working on.. It was a closure piece that was working on last year and it came out so beautiful that piece did. It laid nice and flat. There was no matting or tangling on the ends, and I was very, very very happy with the end result. You just wan na keep going just like this all the way throughout.. You do not want your sections to be too thick because if they are then you're not going to cut enough away. You're gon na cut too much and it's gon na be too thick and is gon na lay very, very, very, very weird, okay, All right.. So what you were doing, you can see that's already, laying a lot more flat than it was before.. So what you do is you just continue going all the way until you've cut all of your turnovers out. And then on the matting question.. So the reason why the hair mats at the root is because that hair, if you're working with cuticle hair, you now have cuticles in two different directions and I'll show you exactly what I'm talking about here.. So this hair right here, that's sticking out from these turnovers.! These cuticles are laying in one direction, and these cuticles are laying in a totally opposite direction. And what happens when those cuticles are mismatched and they're. Not laying in the same direction is that it causes severe tangling and matting., And that's why you want to go and cut those turnovers out.. Sometimes it won't cause severe tangling and matting, but it can.. So that's always a reason why you can cut the turnovers out and that's how you can prevent your piece from tangling and matting. If you're going to do this and you've never done it before I always suggest., You see the difference. It'S laying nice and flat.. If you're going to do this, I would suggest to start in the back.. You don't wan na start in the front only because you wan na test it out and make sure you're doing it right. Okay, Then, once you get the hang of it, then you can go from the front to the back all right. So thank you so much for watching this video. Don't forget.
