About Shameless Maya

"What would happen if I shamelessly promoted myself for 365 days?" My channel started out as a social media experiment and now it's a lifestyle. I hope my journey from shame to shameless inspires you and others to not be ashamed of who you are and to share and celebrate that shamelessly. Here on my channel, you'll find videos on lifestyle, inspiration, fun transformations, techie vids for aspiring geeks, beauty, fashion, and so much more.

What up beautiful people? It is your homegirl Ms. Shameless all up in your building., I'm in the bathroom.. This is actually my brother's bathroom. I'm in Toronto for the holidays., But I have to serve you seven days of hair.. I hope you're enjoying. Thumbs up. If you do., This video is all about the weaves, the wigs, the differences, how to decipher what are they speaking in tongues? I do not understand.. How can I look fly? The previous video. We showed you how to make a wig. This video, I'm going to show you the differences between the different types of wigs. Why are some wigs cheap? Why are some expensive blah-di-blah-di-blah.? So the first one I'm going to discuss with you is a lace-front wig.. This wig is from DivasWigs., So fly., Okay, let me just put it on.. Actually, okay.! You need a wig cap first. Now I do recommend a flesh, skin-tone wig cap, which I don't have with me.. I forgot it in LA and I didn't realize it until I started filming. But whatever. Just get a wig cap on.. You can even take a pair of old pantyhose if you want to and just cut it up. Hoo. Planet of the Apes.. Now it's called a lace-front because there's lace in the front of the wig and that's where wigs can start to cost a lot, because that lace -- you paying for that softness the quality of the lace, the quality of the hair.. This is from DivasWigs and this hair is all kinds of length.. What is this Tailbone.? She tailbone., But you want to have a wig cap. That'S your skin tone because of the lace you see, The lace is going to show. What'S underneath and right now I have a black wig cap, which doesn't look like my skin. And then back here is a flesh-tone., But anyways.. You won't do the same mistake I just did.. This hair is soft.. This hair is soft., But to make it more real, you got to style it.. So here's the lace., The lace front starts here.. It goes all the way. Around. See Lace. Lace. ♪ ♪. Now you can glue it down.. You can add an elastic band and sew. It in and make it tight, so it really stays down.. This is not tight right now., But I'm just trying to show you the differences.. The lace doesn't go all the way around. It starts here. It stops. And then it starts again.. Does it even start at the back? It does., There's 360 lace, wigs that go all the way around and that's designed. So you can put your hair in a ponytail and it looks like it's yours.. It looks like it's growing out of your head.. If I were to try to put this in a ponytail you'd see in the back that it isn't mine., But this wig comes with little baby hairs., Yes, gawd. That can be styled. And in order to secure this lace down the girls on the YouTubes be using Got2B. Got2b Glued. And it's a styling product, but it lays this down. Taut. Look., I mean look at this.. If you got the money to burn burn it on a wig. Yes. But anyways., That's kind of used to do the trickery of blending the lace front.. But you could flat-iron the top part here to get it really flat. And when you're doing wigs, you want to make sure that the foundation is nice and smooth.. So you want to make sure your hair underneath is either braided up or glued down.. And when I mean glued, I really just mean laid.. When you come out the box, you just got to press her out or you can curl her.. That'S the amazing thing about this wig., It's human hair, which means you can style it as if it was your own., You can dye it.. You can bleach it.. I wouldn't do that. Woo., You can curl it., You can cut it., You can't grow it., But you can have a lot of fun with it.. Let me tell you. All the info, for this particular wig is in the info. Box. I'll also have a promo code. If you wanted to buy a wig from DivasWigs., This particular wig is not cheap.'Tis, not cheap.. She ain't a cheap trick. And because it is human hair, you can use styling products., I'm just going to use this Moroccan oil. Hoo., Get that shine. On. Lace, front. Lace, front., The next wig we have is a closure.. Now the difference between a lace front and a closure. --. A closure only has lace from here to here, because that's the only part we want to see. And then the rest of the wig is just tracks sewn in.. So you want to make sure she doesn't fly open. So you see the tracks., But the benefits of having a closure is it's less maintenance.. With a lace front. You have to put glue and that's a lot of work. With this closure. You just throw her on. Sha-blam.. Now I recommend a closure when there's bangs. Or when you plan on having this part down., You don't want to put it up in a ponytail. You're, not trying to show all that. But look at this.. Now this wig was made by Makeba and it's bundles of hair that she sells.. So this is the lace that hasn't been customized.. Nobody'S hairline looks like --. Well, you know what I shouldn't say: nobody., It's very rare to find a hairline that looks like that.. So you want to customize it to make it look more real by going in and tweezing some of it out.. I don't recommend doing this on your head., Put it on a mannequin head and tweeze., Because the last thing you want to do is rip your own hair out., That's the hair from the wig.. So when you start doing that, -- and as you saw in our wig video 101 -- click on the upper I -- it starts to look natural because my hairline is jacked but -- nothing's, smooth about that.. But look at this closure realness.. If you want to find out how we made this watch this video., But human hair --, it's been dyed., It's been lightened. And it's been cut.. I can use styling products and that's the benefit of having human hair.. And then I can diffuse this with a diffuser to get the curls back., But this legit was my hair in high school to the T. Color cut texture everything.. This is my hair.. It'S mine., It's mine.! This is my hair.. Now. What? If I want to wear my hair out, I don't want to worry about a lace. I don't want to deal with all of that. It'S just too complicated.. I just want to use my own hair because I have some hair.. You can wear a U-part wig. And a U-part wig, basically is a reverse toupee. Instead of the hair sitting here, the hair sits here and you can wear your own hair out.. This is a U-part wig, so I made this and then I cut it out, but there's basically a U or a V in it. And the reason why I wanted this was because I have hair and I was like well. I want to rock some of my hair out.. I can leave my bangs out and have a messy beach wave situation going on.. So what I want to do is take the U out.. So this will be my hair that I'm going to use to cover.. You can just clip it in, but I do recommend having an anchor of some kind. So what I'm going to do is take my hair right here and start braiding.. I'M doing this really fast because I just want to show you what it looks like on. ♪ ♪ Got my anchors., So I'm going to take these clips that are inside the? U part and I'm just going to clip her in on the anchor.. Just like a ledge., It's like a window, ledge. Okay.. She got the! U part wigging., And now I'm going to take this open. And if you want to see these wigs in action, you can watch my wig look book., But it's all about the styling.. So once it's in style the crap out of it., So I cut this wig.. It was way longer this U-part wig.. I just cut it so it would match my hair more. And it could still actually do with some layers., But it blends.. And then I can add in some wave here. ♪ ♪. You know I don't want to put too much heat on my head.. The benefit with this is you don't have to worry about lace.. The drawback. Is you have your own hair out, which means it's not very protective. You're, not protecting your hair.. You have to blend your hair with this hair, so there might be heat involved, products involved whatever., But she cute.. Finally, we have synthetic hair.. Now synthetic hair tends to be more affordable than human hair and that's because it's essentially plastic., I recommend synthetic hair. When you have a limited budget, and/or you're doing extreme colors.. Now you can bleach a human hair, which is the hair that I was just using.. You can bleach it., You can color it., But because it is human, it can get damaged. With synthetic hair. You buy it as is.. You can't dye it or anything., But it has really pigmented colors., It's very vibrant., And so I would just buy the synthetic hair with the color.. This obviously is not a crazy color., It's just black., But you can actually put heat on synthetic depending on the temperature.. I like to blow-dry my synthetic hair when it looks a little ratty. Putting some heat to it will kind of revive it., But you have to know what you're doing. Low heat. Boiling water can also help with styling.. I actually did a video on styling a lilac straight wig and I turned it into an Afro, and I did that by doing a form of rod sets really fine rod sets putting it in boiling water and taking it out.. So you can style synthetic hair.. The difference is, it does look fake., Which can be good if you're looking for a dramatic look, whether you're doing a performance show a photo shoot Halloween., But you can have fun. And again. The key is to style. This hair used to be long.. I cut it.. I cut her. But she's so cute. And I cut her because she was fuzzy at the ends and I didn't have time to put all that heat and style it and styling can involve pulling it back or -- voila.. I like this look better. Extensions.. There are so many different types of extensions.. I personally --, I'm only going to talk about the clip-ins, not the sew-ins, not the glue-ins., I don't like glue-ins.. I think it looks so tacky. Weave is good for girls that have thin hair damaged, hair girls that have short hair that want to add some length.. I got these amazing extensions. They're clip-ins from Sally Beauty.. I went to their expo and I met this company called Barely Xtensions and I fell in love. Ultra-Seamless Clip-In Remy Hair.. The extension track is so thin, which is perfect for girls who have thin hair and they don't want that bulky track and it's just clips. Bam.. My hair has also been --, it's like a mushroom, so it's coming out like that. To the touch it's so nice and flat.. I love this hair., But my hair is too short for it to blend., So I would cut this., But I don't want to.. So I'm just going to grow my hair out.. These extensions are in black and they're 18 inches.. It comes with five pieces. Ooh-wee. Now, in order to blend this more, it's all about styling guys., I could roll it back like that and clip it.. I could also wear a hat like that. Yo. This hair is the biz.. Now, if I put this back with ..., So I don't know if you can tell, but I can kind of tell that it's not exact.. This is black.. My hair is 1B. And my 1B was the closest to black for Ultra-Seamless Clip-Ins. Eighteen inches., Two packs.. This is a look.. This is such a LA dancer. Look.. There are a ton more wigs and weaves out there.. I went over the lace-front closure, U-part synthetic and extensions.. I love them all.. I challenge you and me to have more fun and play with all these fun goodies.. I got more hair videos coming at you.. Make sure you like this video. Make sure you're subscribed. Turn your notifications on boo. ForeverCryssy: I love you Maya and I have no clue why this was incredibly funny to me lol especially when you were straightening the long lace frontal with that tiny flat iron lol ok ok I'm done. I love the curly wig though :)

Tanya N.: I have no interest in wigs/weaves but I shamelessly watched the video from beginning to end! ❤❤Love the series.

ღ Opal Chip ღ: I love how you refer to your wigs as "she" and "her". It's so cute, makes it sound like you've got a fond relationship with each of your wigs.

NaturalRose: That curly BLONDE wig is everything on you, boo <3 Please keep it.

HerMajesty's Magical Queendom: Thank you for posting this video because I was a little confused about the different types of wigs that are worn. I don't wear wigs, extensions or weaves but I do watch videos of those who do because I sometimes find them fascinating. My hair is down to my waist so I wanted to see what I would look like with short hair or dyed hair without cutting or dyeing my hair. However I backed away from using any one of the ones mentioned because they just seemed time consuming to use or they looked like hair hats on the women in the videos. Now that you have explained the difference between a couple of options that held my interest, I feel comfortable searching for them and trying out a few out for the fun of it. So thanks.

Naomi Adjeiwaa: I feel like Boxbraids will suite you so well! You should try them

Nicole Thompson: Ok story time: I was a freshman in high school and I asked my mom (half jokingly) if I could dye my hair. To my surprise she said "Sure! Let's go to the store". So we went to Sally's and she asked me what color I wanted. I was still in shock and I told her "IDK. I didn't think I would get this far". She laughed and told me that she always wanted to dye her hair when she was younger but my grandmother kept her from doing it. She also reassured me by saying "it's just hair. If you don't like it then we will just cut it and start over" (my mom is awesome) so we looked at the colors and decided on bright, money green because nobody else had it. Oh, did I mention that this was years before Nicki Minaj was a thing. I kept it in for about a week and washed my hair. That's when I realized that it was temporary. One day (when I get out of the military) I will dye my hair dark purple.

Lynne Picquet: I would love to have gold pink, pastel pink, or dark pink ombre hair!

EnlightendBeauty: I've never died my hair though I've done henna, but I've always wanted to add a white streak to the front of my hair. It reminds me of a character I read in a Sci-fi book years ago

nikkicole54321: ive dyed my hair purple using manic panic. i really would like to redye it to either the oil slick look or just dip dye blue ends

Sabrina Moore: I dyed my natural hair a very deep green recently, I'm going to go a cranberry shade but more purplish for 2017

Toniib: Hey maya! I have a question about the music. Do you get the tracks done specially for your videos or can we find them on jay ellyiots soundcloud? Really enjoying the first song :) Big hugs and greetings from switzerland!

sister jude: the 3th look is my favorite

Brandie Jeanette: I've had purple highlights before but I really want to go blonde...... You should try... the Oil Slick color trend!

janet threatt: when i was a teen i died my hair white now it is turning white love your videos

robin denner: I would love to due my hair blue!!

Ashanti B: When I was in college I died my hair a copper gold for graduation. My profile pic to the left is what it looked like a few months after I graduated. I loved it but, man did my hair get DAMAGED and it turned an orange color. Now I cut my hair to a short length around my jaw line. I love my short hair because I am a low maintenance gal. I think the next time my hair grows I'll get it cut shorter. @Shameless Maya why not consider dying your hair the same color as Shana (I think that's the character's name) from Jem and the Holograms. That violet is really nice.
