Hi guys and welcome to braid school here every Monday we come together to demo and discuss braid techniques, tools and products and protective styling trends. Basically all things braid related. If you're new to class on Vandy your instructor and tonight we are discussing spring twists. The soft bouncy protective style guaranteed to make your life so much easier. We'Re going to talk about the type of hair you need for this look and my technique for a fast and easy install today. We'Re transforming my favorite model. My baby girl Brianna from this sick, thick head of hair to these soft beautiful bouncy curls. So, if you're ready to learn how to do this, make sure you stay tuned to get the spring twist, look it's super important to get the right hair. I already have a video detailing the different types of twists here, which details types of hair needed for different types of twists spring twists. Hair should look a lot like a spiral, be soft to touch and spring back when pulled. This type of hair is super hard to find locally for my area, so I've had to search far and wide for trusted suppliers. The hair I'm using today is from a company. I know and trust very well called beyond beauty I'll be using three packs of this hair in the color 1b 30. The coiled measured length is around 10 inches folded and the polled measured length is around 25 inches folded or 50 inches in total length. If you are confused about what lengths to get measure your hair first, if the folded length is 8 inches, this should be more than enough to cover any length up to 20 inches. When you fold the hair in half getting started with the install I've laid out all of the hair on my spool rack, so I can easily access the hair. As I move along, I typically do a free part or a C part for this style. But this time I wanted to try a standard brick lay box pattern for a cleaner look for tips on basic parting. You can check out last week's video here from experience. I found the method I'm about to show. You is best for Naturals, with at least a type 3 C curl pattern, and up, if you have straight hair, this method will not hold up as well, because over time your straight ends will stick out. Typically within a couple of days. If you do have straight hair - and you want this look, you can still get this look by best doing it in the crochet method. Now zooming in for a closer look, I'm going to show you this super easy and secure, install method. I'M going to show you in real time first and slow it down in the next clip for each section, I'm going to apply the can to hair dress, to lock and moisture and help reduce frizz. Taking one of the twists. I'M going to fold it in half and align the center of it with the root of the hair over the top of it. I'M going to then do a three strand braid down about three to five rotations. I'M using the two strands, split method which I detail in this video here, I'm splitting the natural hair into two sections. The right section is going to be attached to the right side of the twist, creating the first leg of the braid. The left section of the natural hair is going to act as leg to of the braid, and the left twist is going to act as leg three of the braid. When I get ready to twist, I want to make sure I am merging the sections so that there is a natural hair piece and you twist hair piece pair together, so that they are even on each side to get spring hair to spring properly. You have to twist in the direction of the curl pattern. It'S going as many times as I've had done this. I have not yet seen spring twist hair twist in any other direction than to the right always to the right. You will know it's the wrong direction, because when you get to the bottom of the hair, the hair will not spring back now. I know a lot of people like to pull the hair first to fluff it out before attaching it. However, I do find this task to be super redundant, because what happens is as you're moving down the twist you're already pulling the hair and fluffing it out as you go down doing, this will also reduce the amount of tangling you run into and save you a Whole lot of time and increase your speed for the install time. For those of you who really want to study the hand placements here is a closer look at that same install at a much slower rate, so that is really about it for the full install you guys, I'm gon na finish up the rest of her head here. I did find that this parting style created a lot more efficiency in time for me, because she has a lot of really thick hair, and so it allowed me to section off small, larger sections into smaller sections and keep track of how many twists I had as Well, so we ended up using a right at two and a half packs and I think each pack had about 25 twists in it and yeah. I finished her hair in exactly two hours right around that point. I know because I made sure I timed myself, but because she's only 10, her head is a little bit smaller. It usually takes me about two-and-a-half to three hours for an adult sized head. So that completes the look you guys she will likely wear this for about four to five weeks and we might possibly do a touch-up in between her nighttime routine will consist of wearing her satin bonnet and we will likely refrain from washing her hair because it may Frizz more than we would like, I believe this particular brand is alkaline treated. So if you are prone to itchy hair, I would highly suggest doing a vinegar rinse before installing it. If you found this video fool, make sure you thumbs it up and comment below. How do you feel about spring twists hit that subscribe button, so you can keep up with us here every Monday night, thanks again for joining us and I'll catch you in the next video bye,

I actually braided my hair into in plats using the brick lay parting and crocheted the twist hair in and twisted it down. Gives the same flawless look! Thank you for your tutorial. I will try it when I do my touch up!

Christie Rose: Wow. That close up of how to braid at the root! Thank you. I still don’t know how to do box braids. This was awesome. Thank you.

divakenietha: Great lesson! I'm still transitioning to natural, so I'll just crochet until I'm done. Thanks for the tip about hair types and twist direction. I would have been so upset if I wasted time and hair while learning that. You're great!

Shelly Allette: Separating the hair and fluffing it out does add extra time, but it gives the twist when attached to hair a different look. Which I like more, but it definitely takes more time.

tmcdgreen: Thank you for this video! I spent Sunday night frustrated, I will try again using this video Right on time! Good to know I don’t need to fluff the hair! I like the uniform look of these twists, mine were coming out much more bohemian.
