Hey: what's up guys Steven is salon guy here and today I'm going to show you some tips on how to work with that frustrating kalloch that you might have if you're wondering what a cowlick is. Basically, it's the pattern on the scalp which the hair grows in a few different directions all in one spot, so it could be going this way. This way, this way this way and what it does is it prohibits the hair from laying down flat and it causes it to stick straight up right in this one area and I've gotten lots of comments, lots of questions on how to deal with it over. Actually, the last couple of years, another reference that people say is that it's a swirl meaning a circle, so it just kind of swirls around it could be here. It could be down in the back or the neck. It could be in the front. Those are usually a traditional areas that I see it right in here is most common one right in the back top back of the head. So how do you deal with it? How do you style it, how you work with it? So here's a prime example of what a callek would do and I'm sure you've seen this before this hair - wants to go, stick straight up because we're going against how it grows. So the hair pattern grows down this way and if you're brushing against it, it's just going to cause it to stick straight up. What you need to do is need to actually comb the hair in which it grows. So if it grows this way, then you comb it down this way. If it grows this way, then you comb it that way now watch what happens when I brush it over this way see how it pops back. It wants to go the way it naturally grows. So what you need to do prevent it from sticking up like this or causing any sort of weird holes or anything? Is you knit literally need to just comb it in the direction of where it lays and where it grows that it will lay down flat like this another tip? If you want you comb your hair, no matter what you do, it constantly stick straight up. That means your hair is too short now a lot of people want to have a longer hair style, but they keep trying to comb it and direction they want to style it in, and it keep sticking straight up like this. That means one of two things again. You can comb it in the direction it grows, I'll lay it flat or it's too short, one of the best ways to defeat the calyx is to have the hair long enough that it will actually lay over the way it grows and help it lay flat on The head like this, so the longer the hair, the heavier it is, and the more it's going to cause it to lay down flatter. How many of you guys have seen this before or how many of you guys have that, where your hair sticks straight up right in the back and you keep trying to lay down keep trying to lay down trust me guys. I know. Look at my hair. The best way to fix a problem like this is instead of trying to lay it flat which it won't. You need to actually wear your hair in a style that makes all of it kind of spike up. So it looks actually a lot more like it's supposed to be sticking straight up so spike. All of this stop trying to make this lay flat all this flat, where this sticks straight up, and it looks ridiculous. What you need to do is literally take the palm of your hand and kind of work it on the top of your head and spike up everything go with a more textured spiky look, and I guarantee you you're, going to get a lot more out of it Than piece it and work it in so that it all looks like it's spiked up and it's not just the callek well guys. I hope you found these tips helpful and thank you guys so much for watching, don't forget to Like comment and also subscribe. So, thank you so much and I'll see you guys next time for more videos with a salon guy. You

Jen Everhart: Just got my first pixie haircut and discovered that I have a cowlick on the back of my head. I've spent two days trying different products hoping it would flatten out. Found this video and tried combing it the direction it wants to go...boom! Bye bye weird spot! Thank you so much for the help

miguelr246: i dont know if i have 2 cowlicks or just one huge swirl in the back. all i know is my hair has like a category 5 tornado going on.

zile's pile: Stephen, you are an amazing artist and you make awesome vids!! If you could do a haircut where the sides are faded from a 1 to a 2 and the top is a 6 and it is parted to the right, you style it so the hair can get some volume and it can get a lot of volume and then it will get flat on the side. I hope you put this into consideration. Thanks!!!!!

Mani Thangadurai: Thanks for this. I have a DISGUSTING cowlick in the back of my head, and I think long-term the best option is to surgically remove it. But having recently shaved my head (which I did in the hope of setting it right only to be disappointed), I'll have to wait for it to grow a bit. Cowlicks are the WORST!!

Valerie Strickland: I am a female with a swirl-like cowlick on the back of my head. Looks like I have a bald spot, but I do have a good amount of hair/medium thick. What product of yours do you recommend to tame it??

Wyatt Wolfe: My cowlick is actually the opposite, the longer my hair is the more pronounced it gets. It goes from the top left side diagonal to the mid right. I've been wetting my hair and clipping it back while I sleep and when I can during waking hours.

Marilyn Catalano: I deal with most cowlicks with HEAT. It works effortlessly for ninety percent of cowlicks, even the short ones. Just another way to take care of your hair. Been a cosemetologist for decades and I've seen it all.

david jsn: Thanks. This was very helpful. I have a question: How do I grow out my sides after having a hard part line?

AgentSchnorkel: This is so helpful, thank you. As a kid, I sort of did the last one but with too much hair gel. Haha.

OhGeezus: I already tamed mine using the 2nd way. Luckily my stylist let my hair grow in those areas more so now its all good.

Joey Ross: I've had that swirl in the back and it was a fairly recent issue and made growing hair out impossible for me until just about a week ago when I found a subliminal that started to remove that nasty issue which is also know as a hairwhorl and those are a nasty and evil thing to have.I strongly recommend using a subliminal to get that mess removed like I did and mine's started to pull a vanishing act in thelast few days.

Malik Alwan: very helpful video thanks for putting this out!

Not So Cool Dude: Super helpful! Thanks!

marcos menendez: So I always tend to get a front cow lick after my hair grows for a while.. It begins to go the opposite direction of the way it usually does.. How do I prevent this?

Alex Soeth: I just got my hair styled for a tight slickback. Now when I comb it back I always get a large break in my hair where my cowlick is. What can I do about this with a slickback?

Patricia Hogan: At 1:58: "if your hair sticks straight up that means your hair is too short".   Have a dry cut so hairdresser can see what you are dealing with. He will comb it in the direction it wants to go and will cut it accordingly.

Galaxy Maxie: Omg thank you for the second hair style because that's my hair hope this cures it before school starts

DanielWhiteVans: What i did for the 2 cowlick I had was shave my head off entirely and placed Castor Oil on the spot and when my hair regrew back it was 75% gone.

Luis Flores: Thanks man! Was just looking for this about two weeks ago lol.

Daniel Thompson: As you can see by my profile photo, I wear a flat-top, I get this cowlick at the back left, I get it because the back of my hair grows slanted to the left, and left side of my hair grows back and it comes to a point in the back corner, any thoughts on getting it to straighten out? Because neither of these have worked for me, please and thanks mate.

Jayvardhan Nangare: I got three of them, 2 in front on each side and one on the top of my head.. My hair literally rebel against any haircut I wish to do

Nameless Kid: I have four cowlicks, so this video was exactly what I needed. Lol.

Remyparkour: But where my cowlicks are placed, if I comb it in the direction it grows, I look like a complete douche

Daniel Heinley: I love this. Rock what you've got, guys. ✌️

Creezek: Thank you so much I figured out why I had this hair sticking up after I woke up. Don't ask for the story it's pretty dumb of me

Eros Jowett Sigua Meneses: Man thank you so much God bless you it works wow I can't believe it thank you!!❤️

Izaiah Reyes: What tips do u have if I want to switch my hair. My hair grows naturally to the right, but I wanna move it to the left

lalit pun: a really helpful video !! thanx :D

hdmat101: Thanks this was helpful. Can you please do a hair tutorial for Tom Cruise's hairstyle form Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol?

ChildOfThe1970s: Lately during the past month I have noticed an annoying cowlick at my neckline on the left side. The right side lays fine, but the left side curves inward when it dries, leaving my hair to look uneven with a "balding" spot on that left side of the neckline. It's not really bald, but the way the hair curves gives it that appearance at that spot. But also a little bit of hair curls outward below that bad spot. Ughhh! I just got it cut today and it's doing the same thing. I have always had a few cowlicks, but this one never laid quite this strange before. The woman who cuts my hair said there isn't anything I can do about it and sometimes hair changes. But surely I can't walk around like that forever. It's cut fairly short in the back at that spot. The hair in the front and sides is straight and a little thick with a part on the center-right. I don't like crew cuts, so I like to have at least a little thickness to my hair. I am 46 and never had a cowlick this bad before. What can I do about that neckline problem????

ahmed khalid: that was very helpful video thanks man

Kolin Tyler: I got all three

ocean man: I style my hair to the left but it naturally wants to go to the right in the back. Is there any way I can make it go left? Cutting it off would make it look awkward, letting it go to the right would make my hair look weird and I can’t style all my hair to the right(how it wants to go in the back), because my hair becomes really straight and falls flat, but to the left it’s nice and gets natural volume, help would be greatly appreciated

Milk Patty: For as long as I can remember I’ve always had this weird crown part that looks like a bald spot and I don’t know how to fix it

John Smith: Never noticed this till I shaved my head last year when I was growing it out it stuck up at the back like crazy I have one in the middle too and front very annoying

Maurice Long: I don't get how this is a helpful video. The people that watch this video is more than likely not satisfied with just styling the hair in the natural growth direction. It essentially just says tough luck, a lot of hairstyles will be unavailable to you kind of video.

Sk8 Kingz: I have 2 swirls at the back of my head and thick hair, I also have a receding hair line and a widows peak, my forehead is way too large and I would look wired bald because I have a round head but at top its like a cone. I have the worst hair ever lol is there anything I can do?

MusicTOAD: hey! how do you deal with hair swirls on the front? or what hair styles do you reccomend for it? Im a man by the way

Joshua Allen: this is the video I've been waiting for my entire life

LEGEND MAN: I have cowlick and thought I was balding Thanks I found this video I was coming the wrong way

Zimzim: Trust me guys i know ... 'look at my hair' looool

Hydrogen Peroxide: Hi, im a huge fan of what you do and im hoping to be a hairdesser when im older, could you please do a video on how to do a blunt cut on hair that has a a slight bend at the end or has curls please?

Lucas Shakhov: I have two cowlicks on both side of my head and it grows straight out!!! How do I get rid of that??

Northy's twinkle: thank you so much I can't stand the way my hair sticks up in the back it annoys me but i think i got the idea

littleguy 681: My older brother cut my cowlick and its never been the same

Glen dale: mine on top back ( the crown ) gets swirls and the ends stick up I'm growing my hair out its about 3 to 4 inch

Shr00b: +The SalonGuy how do I fix my hair if I have a cow lick at the front and growing outward at the front? I really need helpw ith that.

crittercollector92: Can someone tell my ex this been trying to grow out my toddler's MASSIVE cowlick and every time it's almost long enough he chops the kids hair off with a terrible cut (I cut the kids hair myself and do better). yikiio: If you shave a cowlick at its roots will it grow back the same?

sterlo seven: I don’t have a cowlick, asked my hairdresser and friends and they say it doesn’t swirl left or right, just whatever.

Zerosoldier: I have one right at the front of my head, what do I do ?

demxntia: What about on the sides? I have this thing that will only go forward lmao its on like the upper area of ur sideburns i think

beachiekeeeen: So the tip is... have longer hair and deal with it. Cool. lol

A R: Got a bad haircut. Now when I comb my hair in it's natural position it looks funny, because it's too short and the other side makes my hair stand up and it looks even worse.

Dygrizzly: I like my short spiky fringe but i have a cowlick on the front in is there any way to deal with that

Jay: I have one in the front part of my head, and it looks like a knot if I have a low haircut

Imran khan: I have a massive front cowlick that wants half of my hair to to another way

BelloLeStrange/CW1990: Yeah... mine does not care. I have three cowlicks... and where there isn't cowlicks, my hair grows straight out from my head. Currently have my hair shaved down. Trust me, I can't get it to stick up or lay flat consistently haha! Once the top grows back to where I want it it will be fine, but it's that awkward growth stage.
