G'Day everyone “Professor Shoelace” here.. This is the first of what I hope will be many shoe lacing tutorial videos., Of course, we're gon na start with the most basic shoe, lacing method of all, which is called “Criss Cross Lacing”. So named, because the laces simply criss-cross, as they work their way up. The shoe. Now here's how Criss Cross Lacing, looks on my “Ian's Shoelace Site”.. In fact, I can animate the diagram and you can see how the laces simply criss-cross as they work their way up the shoe. At each eyelet pair. They go under the sides and out through the next higher eyelet.. So let's see how that looks on a real shoe.. I'Ve started with the lace running across the bottom and out through the bottom eyelet pair.. Now, each time take one end, feed it under the side and out through the next higher eyelet. Same with the other, forming one crossover. Again feed under the side and out through the next higher eyelet. Same with the other side.. Now this series of crossovers is ... fairly efficient because the laces run diagonally. And the ends are crossed in the middle of the shoe. So there's not much in the way of pressure points, because it's not sort of pressed down by the sides of the shoe.. So it makes it fairly comfortable as well. When you hit the top of the shoe, you can tie it with your favourite knot, which of course in my case, is the “Ian Knot”, the world's fastest shoelace knot.. So there you have, it Hope you enjoyed it., That's “Criss Cross Lacing”.. If you want more information, you can go to Ian's Shoelace Site www.fieggen.com/shoelace.

Sidney: I like this method best, and I think it looks neater than starting over rather than under because the lace is less visible at the bottom. But why are most shoes I buy laced (or started to lace) the other way--over the tops at the very bottom? Why do they assume we want it that way?
