Hi I'm Mike the 1a auto we've been selling auto parts for over 30 years. In this video we will be removing and installing an outside door handle in a 2008 Subaru Outback. Let'S start by opening the door. First, we're gon na take this little trim piece off. Use a flat blade tool carefully behind the panel pull it, and then you can use your fingers and pull it back. It'S three little clips next we're gon na take this trim piece off. Do a flat blade tool, a little area, put your screwdriver push down and pull it out clips on the back next we're gon na take this trim piece off we're gon na pry it down right here with a flat blade tool being careful not to damage any Of the surfaces we're gon na pull it out, this is difficult to come out. There is Clips retainers that hold it in we're going to start with a Philips head screwdriver. We have three screws one there, one here and then one up here. Next we're gon na use a door panel trim tool. We sell these at 1a, auto comm and going behind pop off the clips, and then you just lift and pull back on the inside we're going to pull the inner door latch and lock mechanism off. We have to pull this cover up. You have to disconnect these cables you're gon na pull out and you're gon na pull up. The little ball will come up same with this one. Next, we have to disconnect our connector for the window switches. You can push this little tab here, pull it down and then we're gon na disconnect our door light and then push down on this tab. It'S gon na pull right out, use a Phillips head. Screwdriver. Take this speaker off disconnect it at the connector right here. Push on the lock disconnect this speaker to push on the lock, pull that up Phillips head screwdriver pull this speaker up hold the speaker. While you pull the last boat, I'm gon na pull these off with the trim tool. All right, we're gon na use a razor blade cut some of this to pull it back. It'S very sticky, I'm going to peel this back all the way around pull these cables through and all the wires through. You know set this aside. I'M gon na pop off this lock run his little latch. You have to push back the rod and then it slides right out. I'M gon na pop this lock off it pulls out rod on so get a pump. Let me push the run. We'Ve got a bolt. A 10 millimeter bolt that I need to get out we're gon na use, a 10 millimeter, socket extension and a ratchet next is a bolt that goes through the top part of this door handle the hard thing is the window glass is in the way, so we're Gon na use a 10 millimeter ratchet wrench just barely fit it in there. You can use a regular wrench and it will just take you some time. This bolt is really hard to get to because of that glass. There'S some metal piece in the back here. All back this long pull that out of our way, pull our door lock out of the way grab the handle, pull up sign so to get this out. You'Re gon na have your hand on the outside of the handle holding up on it, and then there's these two tabs one of ours is broken. Mm-Hmm do is take a flat blade tool. Just give a little bit of pressure while lifting up on the outside. It will pop out install it from the front and go up on the top down on the bottom. We'Re gon na put this bracket on line up with the Bolton's and we're just gon na put the back bolt in the one closest to the vehicle. Push the lock cylinder down holding it from the outside on this back bolt here, minish to get a ten millimeter on with a swivel socket. It'S really difficult to get to this bolt so we're just trying to Snug it down and then we'll go in with a wrench after snugging it up the ratchet wrench now for the front bolt we'll just tighten this down with our ten millimeter ratchet in here very Easily, all right so that rod goes on there. Here we go green ones locked in okay. Next we're going to do it on the lock cylinder, push the rod on push down on the wok, all right, we'll test it that works so we'll test the key. Your locks, it unlocks good to go now. We'Re gon na put the vapor barrier on this black stuff gets all over the place, be careful get it set on the top. First wires are gon na slide through over here right. There good we're gon na install the speaker. Take your Phillips head screws that one started line up the second one and then the last connect the connector snap it in okay. So we're going to connect our connector right here that will speak it down. Take our Phillips head screws line it up with the hole, take our other Phillips head screw and tighten them down now we're gon na reinstall the door panel, we're gon na start where we left we're going to reattach the door light just push it in we're gon Na reattach, the connector for the window switches push it in we're gon na reattach the lever and lock mechanism with the cables. The small cable goes on the top. Take this ball first, just that, then you slide it over like that, and it same with this. One ball goes in this hole and then goes through the slot. This goes down like that and slide this cover down, makes you want to take this, go in from the top, get it in up top here. There'S a groove once that's lined up should be able to line the pins up push just like that. Philips, head screws and a Philips head, screwdriver start screwing in the panel we're gon na install this cover slide in like that, and this last cover up top now we're gon na use. Our last one put these three tabs in thanks for watching visit us at one arrow com for quality, auto parts fast and free shipping and the best customer service in the industry. You

Calvin: Thank you 1A! That vapor barrier plastic is pretty nasty. I was able to do this replacement a little easier by leaving the speakers in place and only peeling away the corner where the handle is. No need to completely remove those.

Patrick Moran: Very helpful, many thanks! Toughest part was getting rear bolt for handle out, then back in. Wish we’d read previous comment...

Pe2Ce 7: To get that 2ND bolt out, ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN.. and you'll have direct access beside the glass .

Michael Brassard: Much easier to lower the window for the removal of the bolt loosened by the ratchet wrench

Thomas Wagner: Having some serious trouble getting that clip to go over the rod for the door handle. After I get the handle in I cannot get the clip to go on.

hummer hummer: Thank You! ❤️

Jay Bolingbroke: Pro tip: scrape a pea sized bit of the blk goop vapor barrier glue onto fingertip, use to hold 10mm onto fingertip for tricky insertion and to catch first threads

Britny Snyder: Is there a way to get it off without the trim tool? Would a knife or something work?

George Watson: Is this method more or less the same for the rear doors as well?

Tucker Nitzel: Why take the speakers and the mirror trim off?

Darin Heinemann: This video is awesome but it would have been totally cooler If you would have said to roll the window down! I can't believe I've taken this much time and could have done just that stupid little maneuver! But thank you for the video.

Cat Paina: Not helpful, just put the window down for free access to the left hard to reach bolt!

Mez: what if ya doors locked shut and you cant access door panel

Veronica Lane: Why would you need to remove the speakers?????? They’re Nowhere near the door handle!! You removing “all” the plastic plus speakers is Exceedingly a waste of time! Geezus, just move enough plastic out of the way to gain access to the bolts and door handle. Time is Money! You don’t waste Time on Unnecessary Steps!!
