Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.

I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.

Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.

My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.

I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Hey guys welcome back to my channel today I'll show you how to replace a throttle and choke assembly on your John Deere lawn tractor and I'll specifically be doing this on a 155 C tractor today. Although the same principle will apply to many other John Deere lawn tractors - and this is the part here - I'm replacing the throttle lever here, as you can see - is broken off. You cannot just replace single levers on this assembly. You have to buy the whole thing, although you have to do this. It'S not that expensive and you can actually do this whole repair today with a slotted screwdriver. Also, if you prefer, you can use a 5/16 or 8 millimeter nut driver instead of the slotted screwdriver. The first thing you want to do is remove the hood from the tractor, so I just let the hood off first now I'll just connect the connector to the lights here now, if you get the hood off, just simply bring it back down a bit, pull back And with the hood off, you can easily see where the cables go on the engine. This is the throttle cable over here, and this is the choke cable right there. Now what you need to do is loosen each screw that holds the cables and I'll just simply grab the cable, bring it down like this. So you can get the zband out of the hole here and pull down and I'll repeat the same procedure over here for the throttle, cable and just remember that the throttle cable went into the bottom hole of this assembly and it might make it easier. If you have both levers here in the down position to remove this part, what you need to do is go underneath and push in some clips and then pry at the top here with a flat screwdriver, and these are the clips, aren't talking about I'm showing you, The new control assembly, so you have to go, underneath push in these clips and then pop it up from the top with a flat screwdriver and here's the assembly under the console. You can see the clips I'm talking about now. It'S a bit tricky because there is not much space under here to go with your hands and push these clips in. If you have a really long screwdriver, you can push them from the outside here. So I'm just going to reach under here push one of the clips, with my thumb start finding it out with a screwdriver and it's a bit harder to push it and puts on this side. Now, if you're pushing these clips with your thumb, you're going to notice, they will sting your thumb as soon as they pop. So you may want to wear some thin gloves when you do that now what you want to do is pull the whole assembly and here's an up close for you again. This was the throttle lever. The cables were still good and here's the new cable assembly. This is part gy, 2, 0, 9, 4, 8 from john deere, and this part was not actually that expensive. It was only like $ 30 here in canada. I thought for sure would be a lot more than that. So I was quite surprised and to install the assembly is quite easy now to get started just shove. The two cables through the console hole you're, going to see the cables come through down here and once it gets down here, you can pop the assembly into the console once you hear it clicked it's in there properly. So once you have it installed like this, you want to find out which cable is for the choke and which one is for the throttle. Just simply move a lever and you're going to see that cable move. So I'm going to start with the throttle cable over here now you want to grab your throttle. Cable insert the zband into the hole here and now you want to insert the cable behind this clip and again, I'm doing this with both levers in the down position and now for cable adjustment. I'M just going to push it to the left. As far as I can and just hold it, while you tighten up the clip here and you want this little clip fairly tight, but don't overdo it because you could easily strip those threads and I'll just try out the lever, and you should see it move like This and now you want to do the same with the choke cable, you want to insert that Z band into the hole then put the cable under the clip here and I'm going to use the nut driver to do this again. I'M pushing the cable to the left as much as I can and remember that the throttle and choke levers are in the down position and I'll. Try out the trophy ever to make sure everything's, working and all seems well, and the only true way to know if these are installed correctly is to actually start up the engine, and everything seems good with this new throttle and choke assembly. The reason why I was putting on the choke was to make sure that the choke was actually engaging. That'S why you saw the engine go down and then read back up when I put it down so by starting it up like this. You know for sure that everything's, okay and now you can just do one final check before you put the hood on and at this point everything looks good and your cables are going to be routed on the side of the engine like this. This is the choke cable, and this is the throttle cable at the bottom and I'll, just simply reinstall the hood. When you install the hood, you want to slide this pin here in the grooves on each side of the front end of the tractor, as you can see from up top here and now you want to reconnect this connector here for the lights. So that's all there is guys to installing a new choke and throttle lever assembly on your John Deere lawn tractor. So thanks again for watching please share and like this video. Tony M: Nice job Dony, I must say your photography is always top notch, clear and exact. Thanks for the vid, I have a model 135 JD pretty much the same setup. Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend.

Web Puddin: Nice job. Very helpful. I love the straightforward, no gimmick, no music, no distractions approach. Very clear. Got mine replaced. Now just to adjust and verify it all works. Thanks for your time and effort to help us!

Carl Miller: Excellent video and repair job! One quick note, make sure to place the throttle cable into the plastic hold-down clip (to the right of the spark plug on the driver's side, see 5:56 of the video). I presume this plastic clip helps keep the throttle cable from potentially catching on the hood while opening and closing the hood. I also would like to point out how the metal clip holding the throttle cable at the front of the engine is angled, as opposed to straight up-and-down. This slight angle (1:26 of the video) appears to also help keep the throttle cable away from the bottom of the OHV valve cover, as the cable curves around the side of the engine. As always, excellent close-ups and step-by-step walk through for this repair, Don! Thanks so much.

Unknown Hidden1: Hello donyboy73 I have a question about a Briggs and Stratton engine ? Ok so I have a Briggs and Stratton 3.75hp push mower , the engine is stuck at full throttle , I took off the air filter box and they are no throttle cables connected to the governor, it is a small plastic piece that sticks out and the cable connects and when u push it forward and back it is suspose to control the engine speed . But mine doesn’t I have it pull the hole way back and it still screams at full throttle? I think it is something to do with the governor thing that is next too the camshaft ? Is there any way you can help me ? I understand it is hard to know the problem without seeing it so I could email you the image or the governor next up or any social media too send u a video or a picture so u can understand the problem better , but if you know the problem I would very highly appreciate a reply on YouTube thank you .

Marie Sheppard: Thank You Doing this tomorrow.

Documentary Magic: Ugh, my set up is so different from this; I have a JD 102, w/ Briggs-Stratton 17h.p. The choke rod is now hitting other parts and I can't remember how it goes back on. Pulling hair out. I saw your other video that showed the choke rod that's set up like mine, but can't see how the looped part came out of the slot that's behind everything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5o4WzPxI5Ek&list=PLXdVdc2j9nLDzaZY13P4h7IOhYXFYf_li&index=3&t=551s I don't know it that looped part just slides into the slot, or if it's connected to something back there. I can see the choke rod bends so it's out of the way, but is it just sliding back and forth in the slot? I don't have it on right, that much I can see.

RayFpv: Do you have a video in how to change the cooling fan on the top of transmission

Charles Love: I need to know the cable assembly to a Lx 255 15 hp I had to change motor I replaced it with one just like the bad motor but somehow I got the throttle like back word Ho my I got a headache

dick sdan: do you know where i can buy a real snowblower 8265 snapper non overhead valve engine that revs to 3200 rpms unlike the ones here in USA

James Mullins: good video

Patcha Onkasat: super glue would have been my first attempt

Serge Gosselin: Cheap plastic ,I change mine in metal
