Easy Butterfly Bob Locs Tutorial (No Crochet)

DIY step-by-step tutorial on how I did my shoulder length butterfly locs without crochet and the easy way to remove them! Get this super neat look without having to use any special tools! FYI I have gotten damage from crochet styles in the past which is why I choose to no longer use that method because it causes extra tension on the scalp and roots. For this style I made 47 butterfly locs, used 6 packs of water wave hair and it took about 4 hours to complete.

Hey everyone today, i'm here with a quick tutorial to show you guys how i did my latest hairstyle, which are these short distressed, butterfly locks and i'm absolutely in love with them. So for the hair. I use this water wave crochet, braid hair, and this is in 18 inch length and before i install any braiding hair, i always clean it. First, with some vinegar, i showed you guys how i do this in my last braiding video, but just to recap, i run lukewarm water in the tub. Add a heavy pour of white vinegar. I make sure the twist tie is secure around each bundle of hair, so it all stays together, submerge the hair in the water and agitate it to help clean it a bit more thoroughly, and then i leave it to soak for at least two hours on this Particular day, i believe i left this in there for like five hours but anyway, after that i rinse off with fresh water and ring the hair out, and then i just let it air dry overnight, and this helps to avoid any itching or any type of reactions. From installing the braiding hair the next day, the hair is clean. It'S soft everything is intact and i did have some questions before as to whether the vinegar leaves a smell behind and no do not worry it does not. The hair really doesn't smell like anything once it dries. It just smells and feels fresh so now to prep my real hair, i'm taking this leave-in conditioner and i'm going to put a little bit of that all over to use as a moisturizer. And then i'm going to show you how i made my sections so first i made a part going from ear to ear, to split my hair into a front and back section, and i divided that front section in half with a middle part. Now, for each of those front sides, i'm going to be making four rows and each row will have sections for three butterfly locks, except for the very bottom row. Where i'm only going to make two sections. Then i'm taking this extra hold jam and applying that to my roots and brushing to smooth with an edge brush. I like using an edge brush for these, because it just helps me get in there. I'M using these rubber bands right here and i'm going to band each section, so my roots stay flat. Now, when i get around the front, i'm making sure to leave some edge hair out, so i can shape it when i'm all done so here we go four rows with two three three and three ponytails and i did the exact same thing for the other side. Now i didn't want to overcrowd my head with the butterfly locks by putting in too many so for the back. I made the parts pretty large right up until i got to the very top crown area where i sectioned the parts to kind of match the front. Half and i ended up doing 25 ponytails in the back and 22 in the front to make 47 butterfly locks total, also just an fyi for those of you that may not want to use rubber bands. You certainly do not have to. You can simply make your sections smooth down the roots and plant the hair about an inch and a half down to keep it all together, and you can continue like that. You don't have to use the rubber bands, but i personally prefer to use them because they keep my roots, the absolute flattest, which helps my style to look neater for way longer, but either way will work. Okay, so now we can go ahead and install and the water wave hair comes grouped together in these strands, so i'm taking two of these for each lock, i'm gon na fold, the hair, but i'm not folding it in half, i'm actually folding it so that one Side is about twice as long as the other and the short side may look super short, but don't worry because it does stretch out. So you can get it to the length that you want. So i'm taking that and i'm starting to braid it in with my real hair and i'm going down about an inch just to attach it. Then you want to separate and fluff out the water wave hair. So you get a thick full looking lock, and this also helps with giving the locks a distressed, look and now, with the longer side of the crochet hair in one hand and the shorter side and the other. You want to combine your real hair with the short side, we're going to use that as the base and we're going to wind the longer side around it to create the lock. So first i'm winding upwards, because i want to cover up the braided part and once i get to the very top by my roots, i'm winding a few times around the rubber band to cover that up as well. And then i'm going to start winding. The hair down now, as i'm winding down to get the irregularities that butterfly locks, are known for i'm fluffing out some of the waves and i'm alternating how tightly i'm winding every few rotations i'll ease up a bit and that allows the lock to get a little More personality, so it's not so uniform, so once i've winded down to the length, i want my lock to finish it off. I took my finger and held it where i wanted the bottom of the lock to be folded. The ends of the hair up and i wound it around that loop, i'm making with my finger a few times to secure it, and then i started winding the hair upwards until i couldn't wind anymore, when i ran out of hair removed my finger and all done, Here'S a little closer end, so you guys can really see the details so again to attach the crochet hair, we're braiding it in with a real hair down about an inch once that's on, go ahead and separate and fluff out the crochet hair. Take your real hair and combine it with the shorter side, take the longer side and start wrapping it up to get to your roots, wind it around the roots a few times to cover up the rubber band and to secure the start of the lap. Then start winding down until you get to your desired length and a tip for this. While you're winding down, you want to try to make sure you're covering up all of the hair that we've designated as the base, which is the shorter side, because that will ensure that all of your real hair is contained inside the lock and nothing. Pops out alternate. The tightness of your winding and allow little straight pieces of the water wave hair to poke out to get some distressing. Then, once you get to your stopping point, place your finger at the end of where you want your lock make a loop wind. The ends of the hair around the loop a few times to help the lock stay locked and then start winding up until all of the hair is twisted. Remove your finger and the lock is secured now on this lock right here, i'm going to show you another way. You can get some distressing so while you're winding down the length of the lock every few turns. What you want to do is place your thumb under the hair that you're winding and then remove it and you'll see that doing this causes those little loops and bulges to form as well. So this is just another way you can get the butterfly lock. Look after all, 47 locks were done. Last thing i did was take a little more jam and apply it to my edges, then brush them in place for this style. It took me about four hours total to complete and i used six packs of the water wave crochet hair and i really like this shorter length. It'S very easy, very carefree. I pretty much just wake up and go with this style, which is amazing. I do want to mention, though, that this hair did feel kind of heavy the first couple of days of wearing it. But after about, i would say like five six days. It didn't feel so heavy anymore and it wasn't bad at all. But initially it did feel a little heavy, but nothing too crazy. Overall, i am extremely happy with how this came out and i've been wearing this set for three weeks now with no issues. Just in case any of you guys were wondering now when it's time to remove these, it's really simple. What you want to do is first pull down on the bottom to undo that loop and then you just pretty much work in reverse by unwinding the hair. Take down the braid which will remove the crochet hair and, as for removal of the rubber band, what i like to do is take a rat tail comb and place it right underneath one loop of the rubber band and then, while holding my hair firmly. So it doesn't pull on it. I just move the comb out until the rubber band pops and it falls right off, and that is basically all you have to do. It'S really easy, so yeah that is pretty much it. I hope you all enjoyed the tutorial thanks. So much for watching as always and i'll catch up with you soon on my next video bye,
