Here is part 2 of "pH to healthy natural hair", where I determine the pH of Shea Moisture Shampoo & Conditioners I use during my Wash Routine. It's very important your hair products are within the healthy and safe pH range and are used in the correct order of highest pH product, i.e., your shampoo is used first and end with the lowest pH product, i.e., your gel/creme that is used to do your twist-ins.

Does Shea Moisture "Jamaican Black Castor Oil" line of shampoo, rinse out conditioner and leave in conditioner, plus my get used to twist my hair fall in the proper order? This is what I find out in this video.

Watch to see exactly what is the pH of each product listed below.

Ryan little okay, so I'm going to start with measuring the pH of my shampoo. This is what I'm gon na start with. First and let's put these to the side now again, I said the last couple of weeks three weeks just so to make it simple is: I have been using the set the Jamaican black, castor oil series and is the shampoo, the conditioner and the leave-in conditioner, so Using all of the same products within the same product, family, that is what I'm doing it makes it easier. I don't have to worry about whether one pH level is out of order with the others. The manufacturer has definitely stayed within the recommended descending order of pH levels, so the shampoo has the highest pH. Then the rinse out conditioner has a lower pH than the shampoo, and then the leave-in conditioner has even a lower ph ph' and the rinse out conditioners. So I'm going to measure just for measuring sake to show you how to use the pH strips to measure the pH of your product. I'M going to start with my shampoo, and this is the Jamaican black, castor oil, shampoo, strengthen and restore shampoo, and what you do is you put a little bit into a cup ever you want to put that into and take one of my lovely strips and I'm Gon na use the one that has the full range from zero to fourteen, and I know my shampoo is going to have a higher pH than my rinse out conditioner and my leaving conditioner. But I want to know exactly what is the pH? Manufacturers are not required by law to put the pH on their hair products, but they definitely use a lot of adjectives, pushing the goodness of this product and it tells you what it's good for and so forth, but it doesn't have a pH level on there and They don't have to so anyway, since they don't put it on there, we're going to just measure it ourselves. So what I did is I've taken the pH strip, move those to the side put that on there and I'm just gon na. Let that sit for a minute in less than a minute, actually all right, so I have measured it and what I'm going to do is. I am going to compare it to the scale on the on the box to see where it sits on here and what it is. So I know it's going to be under seven, so I may use this side of the page scale, which is from zero to seven, and definitely it's not going to be a zero now, if you see here's my strip, I put it next to what color it Best matches with - and in this case it looks like it matches with the number six this, because it turned an olive green in that second box and it's orange and it's still yellow. So it's one of these two over here, so I would be safe to say this pH of this shampoo is a six so now that we know that that's a six. That is what we're starting with with our wash routine. We are starting with the product that has a pH level of a six, and that is what shampoo is intended to do is lift the cuticle layer and wash your hair strands as well as your scalp, the scalp. But now we know with a six the rest of our hair products from our can rinse out conditioner to our leave-in conditioner, to our gel that we use to twist our hair needs to be a lower pH than the shampoo. So next I am going to measure my rinse out conditioner and take another strip dip it in the rinse out, conditioner. Okay, just like that, okay, so it's brown. I really can't see it well, let's just have it sit for a moment now. I'M gon na wipe that off it doesn't take very long as just a few seconds, actually maybe about 15 seconds, for this trip to start changing colors too so now, with my rinse out conditioner, I'm going to measure it to the scale on the box. It'S pretty clear that it is, is a 5 lower than my shampoo and again remember remember: this is in the same family of products, so the manufactory f18, the rinse out conditioner, be a lower pH level than the shampoo. So the shampoo is a pH of a 6. The rinse out conditioner is a pH of a 5 and let's measure the pH of the leaving conditioner, which is in the same family, and I am just going to dip it in B. End here and - and I have just measured the leaving conditioner - let's compare it to thee okay, so the leaving conditioner actually is is a five. So what I have here is, I have my shampoo, a six, my rent out conditioner box, my leaving conditioner aside, so that is my complete wash routine. Are these products right here and it goes down in order which is supposed to do now? If I want to put another product on my hair, which I do to twist my hair, I use a gel. It is not in the same family, so I have to be sure that the pH of this particular product is lower than my leave-in. So, let's go ahead and measure that the Sun is coming in. You see it right through okay, so take another strip dip it in there wait about 15 seconds. Okay and I'm measuring the pH of my gel that I used to twist my hair to make sure that it is a lower pH than my leave-in conditioner. So let's do that and it is my gel. My Cantu shea butter, natural moisturizing, twist lock and gel, is actually a or which is a good thing. So it's going in descending order, and this is how I am using the products correctly and in the right order, because the pH is getting smaller. As I put each product, so my final product has the lowest pH and that's exactly what you want when it comes to taking care of your natural hair, using this pH measurement to determine how it's going to affect your hair. So I hope this helps you out. It helped me out. It helps me to learn more about how to better take care of my hair and I'm just passing on the information to you guys, and I hope you like it and if you do please make sure you give this video a thumbs up. Zalina: UPDATE: I just watch this video again and I want to note I fail to emphasize that your conditioners, from your rinse out conditioner to your leave in conditioners can have the same pH level/number. The last product, i.e. conditioner and/or butter, gel doesn't have to be lower than the previous moisturizers placed on your hair. Also, be sure your products' pH levels are in the safe range of 6.5 - 4.5.

Caramella: I asked the manufacturer about the ph balance and they answered this: “The pH balance of our products is proprietary”. That answer makes me seriously want to stop using their products because why wouldn’t they want to tell what’s the ph?
