My 4c hair has become pretty long and extremely thick, but it wasn't always like this, as a matter of fact, take a look at how it looked like last year. I was clearly struggling with my hair, but i'm going to tell you some things i did to overcome this hello. So today i'm going to tell you all 10 things that i did to my natural hair to make it grow long, thick and healthy all right. So one of the most important things to do is to make sure that you're oiling your hair during a protective style. So there are two reasons why you need to make sure that you're oiling your hair number one. You should be applying a growth oil to your hair. If you have a protective styling, it just doesn't make sense to have a protective style in and be wasting the opportunity to be applying growth oil to your hair every day it really does help, and it really does make a difference. Number two make sure that you're applying an oil that penetrates your hair strands and softens your hair. This is going to make it a lot easier for you when you take down your protective style and you're detangling, your hair you're, going to find that you get a lot less breakage and tangling. I didn't discover this until about three years ago, but use a cholesterol treatment. Cholesterol treatments are amazing and don't confuse a cholesterol treatment with a deep conditioning treatment. They do two separate things and sometimes you can use them interchangeably, but i think it's best to use a cholesterol treatment and a deep conditioning treatment on wash day. If you have the time. But if i had to pick one, i would probably just use the cholesterol treatment, cholesterol treatments just strengthened my hair and at the same time they stocked in my hair and i've never seen any other kind of product. That'S able to do that for me always keep in mind that the less you have to detangle your hair, the better, if it's not necessary, don't over detangle your hair. I think a lot of naturals suffer a lot of unnecessary breakage because they're so concerned with getting their hair completely detangled. We have 4c hair if our hair is in a curly state, it's usually going to coil up again, and so, in my opinion, i think it's just kind of a counterproductive situation. So i think, what's most important is just making sure that you separate the tangles enough to make sure that your hair isn't going to be matted and tangled back up and cause breakage. This one is so so important. Keep your hair stretched as much as possible. The only time i don't keep my hair stretch is when i really want to show off and rock my fro in all of its glory or, if i'm showing you guys what my natural 4c hair looks like in its natural state in its dried state and in Its moisturized state so that you all do know that i indeed have horsey hair. If you have the time, try and do a hair growth treatment or try and do an anti-breakage mask or try and do a moisturizing mask i've gone through a hair journey. When i didn't put as much effort into my hair - and i wasn't doing any hair growth treatments and my hair grew a lot slower than it's growing now this time around, i'm very very excited for my hair to get longer so i've been doing a lot of Different hair growth, treatments and hair growth masks, as well as a lot of anti-breakage treatments and moisturizing treatments, in order to make sure that my hair not only grows quicker, but also so my hair is stronger and can withstand a lot more than it usually would. If i wasn't doing these treatments, also, one thing that you want to keep in mind is, even though it is good to do these treatments. There is such a thing as doing too much of a good thing. I usually try not to do treatments more than once. Every two weeks, if that, because i don't want to put too much stress on my hair, so keep that in mind. I make hair growth smoothies at the beginning of every week and it's a really easy way for me to make sure that i get all the nutrients that i need in order for my hair to grow and for my hair to thrive, and i just drink one. Every single morning and then on sunday i'll remake another batch, it's really simple. I really think that a lot of people should do it. It does work wonders. I personally feel like it's made a very big difference in the length and the thickness of my hair. So i definitely recommend this for others. I personally don't believe that you should trim your hair more than twice a year if you are on a protective style journey, because your hair is going to be up in a protective style anyways and you may just be trimming away progress because a lot of the Hairs on your head do not grow at the same rate say, for example, if half of your hair goes to your collarbone in a year, but it takes another year for the other half of your hair to grow to your collarbone. Does it make sense to trim off the progress from the first batch, or does it make more sense to wait for all of your hairs to catch up and be at the same length? That'S just my opinion. Use silicone conditioners. If you need the slip, if you really need the slip in your hair and you're getting breakage when you're detangling on wash day don't be afraid to go back to silicone conditioners. There was a time where i was following every single hair rule and, as a result, i was using a silicone free conditioner. My wash days became really sad and i started getting a lot of unnecessary breakage and i tried to convince myself that it was normal because i'd seen so many other people say that it was normal. But at some point i just had to admit to myself that i wasn't getting as much breakage when i was using a silicone conditioner. This one is so important. You need to make sure that you're doing some type of detox to your hair, especially if you're using heavy gels and products, because you're going to have a lot of buildup on your hair. And when you have a lot of up on your hair. When you're trying to put moisture back in your hair, it's not going to actually penetrate your hair shaft. So what i like to do is use the aztec clay mask and i like to mix it with apple cider, vinegar and i like to add a little bit of black tea to it, because i find that it not only helps to detox my hair. When i do this, but it also helps with reducing shedding and breakage. So that's just something that i recommend and something that you may want to try as well and last but not least, and i'm going to keep saying this all the time but be grateful for your hair. Be thankful for your hair. Actually, thank your higher being for your hair. I'M not saying that you should center all of your prayers around hair, but i don't think there's any harm in asking your higher being for what it is that you want and what it is that you desire deserve to be happy. You deserve to be fulfilled. If this is something that's going to contribute to your happiness, then go ahead, pray about it as always. Thank you all so much for watching and if you're not already make sure that you follow me on instagram. Bye, loves

Lullaby Sorrow: I'm pretty young, so this is nice to hear that there is a way to deal with 4C hair because i'm always told it's just suppose to be nappy, dead, and ugly by legit everyone except videos like these on the internet. I just see its a lot of work to take care of, and i don't think i'll ever love my natural hair, but i'm going to see if this works, and if it doesn't i'm going bald and wearing weave forever.

THE_ BLACKBIRD: Why is she the only hair youtuber that goes straight to the point!!! I love that let's get her to 1M

FrenchFry Frenchie: Black women's beauty is unmatched DONT let anyone tell you otherwise .

Debby Fynodulaks: Her last year bad hair is my future hair goal

Rozegolden: God, hair channels take NOTES. Love how you don’t say anything unnecessary and get straight to the point and speak fast. Thank you! ❤️

Mocha Mommy: I am glad you are doing this for not only me, but for my 2 daughters. THANK YOU SIS

Naana Ashong: You see, I’m one of those people who can’t keep a style in for more than a week lol so I forced my mom to do box braids on my hair lol. I don’t like others braiding my hair because when the comb it, it’s like they’re ripping out my scalp and so much hair comes out but my mom actually cares lol.

Ned Baker: I love seeing different hair 4c hair growth videos because although they relatively say the same thing which is “moisturize, keep stretched, detangle softly”. There is always something different. Our hair is so different although it’s the same texture. It’s incredible seeing how different each journey goes. Our hair is so incredible.

Ashanti: Thanks for getting RIGHT in to it without a 5 min intro. This video was very helpfull❤️

NinaTheTaurus: I know it's not much, but my hair literally grew 2 inches in three months, and I've NEVER been able to retain length. My hair could barely fit in a ponytail straightened and now at 19, my hair almost passes my chin. I started putting more effort into my hair, and I see growth every 2-3 weeks. I hope to be able to have my hair in a cute puff by the end of the summer. I used to never think I'd be able to have longer hair and while I'm not yet at 12 inches, I've come farther than ever before. Here's what I did: 1. Deep condition/wash my hair EVERY week. 2. Apply leave in conditioner and coconut oil on DAMP hair. 3. Twist up my hair, throw a stylish scarf on, and leave it alone. These three things have helped me retain more length than I ever had before. I hope it helps you guys.

Fine Natural Hair ROCKS: Thank you for posting this video! You shared some really solid tips that I will take with me immediately - particularly your tip about not wasting an opportunity when protective styling to oil your scalp. I currently have in faux locs but admittedly, I haven’t been piling my scalp. I’m definitely going to start doing this a bit more for the rest of the style. Thanks again for the video curlfriend!!

Catina Deann: I noticed a lot of long 4c Naturals tend to wear their hair blow dried or stretched & I agree with not detangling! When I Want my hair to grow I get started loca and I wear them for months my hair always grows so fast and all I used is water and oil in it during that time

Miss Hitomi: are you SERIOUS?! I would KILL for your "last year" hair

Payton Williams: Youre so right about the trims every time i get a “trim“ my hair takes so much longer to grow my right side naturally grows faster and longer than my left. I wear wigs 70% of the year so i think trimming every 6 months for me would be just fine as opposed to the every 12 weeks

Yinka Naturalista: (I’m using a plastic spoon with my Aztec clay mask. I’m aware that you are not to use silver when mixing the clay. It is a plastic spoon that is designed to look like it is silver)

Ghibli Fiend: These are really good tips! I think also learning which types of shampoo/deep conditioning treatments to use and when is helpful as well. I always alternate between sulphate free shampoos, clay washes and clarifying shampoos. And knowing when to do protein treatments or moisturising DC, if you do not know what protein treatment to use, start small like using ones that only have amino acids in them and work your way up if it does not work for you!

Sarah Carr: When you say keep your hair stretched do you mean by blowdrying it? Flat iron? Twist out? I’m on a hair growth journey and my hair has gotten to my chest so far so I’m happy about that! I haven’t gotten a silk press in a year mainly due to avoiding the salon during the pandemic but it’s been growing a lot I’ve been blowdrying it every other month would you recommend I blow dry it every time I wash it instead?

Shy Shy: I’m so glad you mentioned that about silicon because I’ve discovered my hair loves it, I’m natural but I’m 3b/c and sticking to others rules will be your hairs demise. I have a routine I follow and my hair flourish. Your hair looks great!

DREAMY MiMi ASMR: I love this video so much. you got straight to the point and actually gave really great and different tips that I've never heard before. thank you

Mwahtia G: Skin is glowing queen

kiawas1: "Pray about it". Love that.

MFL Teacher Kerry A K Francis: I always forget to oil when I have braids. Thanks for this sis :)

Milk: The detangling tip is so true. I haven't used a comb months and my hair is thick as hale

Hometown Girl n' Curls: This video was informative, short, and straight to the point. Subscribed!!

Speechie Gal: Just discovered your channel and have watched 2 videos already. Love the content, so much I didn't know about hair growth. Thank you for the helpful information.

elyzazaza: Can you show your protective styles, for one week, two week, and one month or more? Merci!

L B: Thanks for sharing I use the Moroccan clay for my hair detox and Giovanni eco chic deep conditioner reconstructor and ever since then my 4c hair has been so much more manageable and much less breakage

Mahogany Hanger: Your hair is so beautiful and healthy! Great tips!!!

F. U. Nosey ass stalker: I am glad that you mentioned this because I am so tired of people saying that you need to cut your hair in a blunt cut , straight across. Especially when our hair is not like other people's and other ethnicities types of hair. There's a lot of areas of my hair that appears the grow faster than the rest but really what it is is what you stated your hair grows at different rates and different areas and also at different times. The answer is no I do not want my hair to be cut I want to learn what my body is doing I can't do that if someone else is always doing it for me.

Away Canada: Hi Yinka ! Thanks for this amazing video! I was wondering which cholesterol treatment you use? Thank you so much <3

utterbullspit: Gurl! You look like stepped straight outta the 70's and I'm here for every bit of it!

Mocha Mommy: I would LOVE if you created an Amazon curated shop for the oils and products you use. So many people are interested in what you use in your regime. Many of of the products I have noticed are pretty affordable, I think people would be surprised at how accessible natural hair growth is.

Kasashi Musonda: You're so pretty. You look like a model and a doll

Fatima Jay: Definitely buying everything on this video. We literally have the same hair texture.

Nala: Hiya! Do you think it's better to stretch out/blow out your hair before putting it in a protective style like marley twists/faux locs? Much love

Nunn Ya: Thank you for tips. I'm interested in the names of the products you use and the diy oils and smoothies. I have very weak hair due to a genetic vasculitic and connective tissue disorder that causes a lot of breakage with alopecia during flares. Any details you provide could possibly help. I'm willing to try in order to grow back my hair. Hopefully to longer healthier lengths that I can retain. Also how do you stretch your hair? Thank you so much.

Lucy Maynard: Can we have a Tutorial on the hair growth treatment please ? The oil scalp and the homemade hair mask

Crystal O: You know, there’s quite a few ppl that not only don’t have a preference to use oil on their hair, but they’re saying not to use it. It baffles me. These are professionals too. My skin needs moisture and oil is in the lotion or oil the skin directly after showering is needed. Nails actually grow strong when you keep your hands moisturized/oiled. And your hair proves that we don’t need to stray away from what actually has worked for centuries.

Ngozi Nwafor: I need to start doing growth treatments. I never believed they work but it seems as if they do!

HotMama 31: You are beautiful. Thanks for the insight. I struggle with my natural hair because its low porosity. Its prone to shrinkage and it sucks. Im always on the go and dont have much time for my hair. I like different styles once a week but i cn honestly admit im givin up on my hair. It's a struggle to embrace my natural beauty because my hair is unruly and it's a huge part of my confidence. Ill try the cholesterol treatment, detox, and hair mask to moisture and stretch it. Hopefully it works

Oxford Lane: I glad to see that I’m not the only one who uses clay in their hair ♥️

Beavera Menzell: Would cholesterol treatment perform just as good on naturally coarse hair? Would you recommend it as a potential protein treatment for low and high porosity hair?

Miss. Benin in America: Oh wow, this is very helpful, I am natural and my hair is 4c too, I will like to try this out, New here!

livelovelaugh: @Yinka: Thank you for making and sharing this video. You shared some helpful tips. Hopefully it will be a success to us all! Thank you posting some of the products that you use in the box below the title of your video. But please tell me or make a video as to how your make your homemade hair remedies and smoothies. Side note: You are a pretty person and the long hair is the cherry on top!

Lanasia Nelson: How do you deal with single strand knots?

MyHonest123: I did a big chop (buzz cut short), now my Hair is long enough to braid with extensions but it still very short. Do you think there’s any point in detangling and stretching my hair since it’s a twa?

Ashley Kea: Thank you so much for the information but I have a few quick question do you have a video on the hair smoothies you drink? Also you said the do a cholesterol treatment, a deep conditioner treatment, a anti-breakage treatment, and a few other treatments. How many treatments should I do on wash day I usually wash my day every two weeks but try to make it to a month to do my wash day so how many treatments should I do on my wash day

Lady M: I've been cutting my hair very low for the past 2 years. Now with this virus I'm trying to grow my hair. 1. How should I be drying my hair? Cause immediately I leave the shower I put a little beat of castor oil, some cream and braid it without drying it. I just can't leave it to air dry cause they will tangle. 2. How can I resolve shrinkage?

Shea Shea: What hair growth smoothie do you drink? Do you have recipes? Aloe Vera is a life saver thanks for the reminder ❤️❤️

Beavera Menzell: What does a cholesterol treatment do for the hair? Which step do you do first: DC or CT?

Earth Goddess Uchechi: i love that this video is 5 minuetes long! thanks girl

Vasheena Hendrix: What about protein treatments. Can I use that too as well as the cholesterol treatment?

Hillary Akoun: How many times a week do you oil your scalp in a protective style?

Ayanna: Such great tips !!!

Chowder's Crib: I PROMISE all you need is to clean your hair with water, put it away with braids or flat twists, and LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE! How do you guys think people grew their hair back then? Just water and braids that’s it

Grace Aina: i’m 15 and in school, so i have box braids with extensions for about 5-6 weeks at a time. when i take out the braids i pre-poo with olive oil and wash the same night before re-braiding the next day with natural oils. Would it be too much to do a hair mask as well before washing? I also use no gel or edge control, just natural oils to moisturise.

DearSelinaLove: OMG!!! I’ve been trying to find a pink dragon fruit for my smoothies, but I always end up with a white ones. I’m so jealous lol
