Foreign, so most of you know, I moved from Los Angeles to Miami and because of the humidity I've really had to embrace my wavy hair and learn how to style it. So I'm going to share some of the tips and tricks that I've learned so far that have worked for me personally now I want to make something clear: there's a huge difference between having curly hair and having wavy hair curly hair is very distinct. Yes, there can be different curl patterns and different texture, but curly hair is very distinct. Wavy hair, on the other hand, is neither here nor there. It really, you know like it's just somewhere in the middle, and so you have to treat it slightly different than curly hair. So before I moved to Miami and had to really deal with the humidity there, I used to try to take all of my tips from people who have really curly hair. I tried to treat my hair, my wavy hair very similarly, and yes, some of the ways that you care for curly hair apply to wavy hair. There are also some differences. One of the things that's the same is you need lots of hydration and lots of moisture for your hair. I mean this. Rule applies to all hair types, the more hydrated and moisturized your hair is the stronger it's going to be the shinier. It'S going to be just the nicer it's going to be whether it's straight curly or wavy, so this obviously starts in the shower when you wash your hair. So when it comes specifically to shampoo and conditioner, the products or curly hair are always usually the same. Like you want to go for the ones that are super hydrating that are going to you know just help. You really maintain that bounce and moisture to your hair, one of the things that I've noticed about people with curly hair versus someone like me with wavy hair, is that they'll sometimes use really really heavy curl creams in the shower, and sometimes they don't rinse them out And I think that that's something that doesn't work for someone like me with wavy hair, because curly hair, when it's really really curly, can handle the weight and sometimes that you actually want that weight of the curl creams. What I found is, if I use conditioner specifically that are a little bit too heavy. They can actually weigh my waves down something else. I'Ve noticed with my friends who have really curly hair is that they use certain brushes, usually like the wet hair brushes to brush their hair out, and what I found again because wavy hair doesn't have this very distinct pattern. It'S neither here nor there. So if you brush your hair, even when it's wet, it doesn't actually help the curl pattern or the wave pattern. It can actually start to flatten it out in certain areas. So what I've found is I like to get out of the shower after I've washed and conditioned it? I like to use a microfiber towel. Usually it's like a towel by either Aquas or I really like the ones from Kitsch because they're really cute. I won't leave it in my hair too long, because I don't want my hair to be super super dry and then already frizzy, so I'll use that I'll get out of the shower I'll put on. Basically, like my face products, and then my body lotion and then I'll take my hair out of the towel really quickly, so that it's not too dry and the water hasn't soaked up too much in the towel and from there. What I do is I take a wide tooth comb and I just pick at my hair just a little bit to get some of the knots out. There have been a few brands that have really stood out to me for my wavy hair that happen to be curly hair products. First is the curly hair products from Kristen s. This goes for the shampoo and conditioner and also the styling products. I love the bread, beauty, supply products and I especially love of the BB Curl products from Bumble and Bumble, especially when it comes to the styling cream. They do a really good job of offering a light version and a heavier version. So after I pick out some of the tingles from my hair, while it's still pretty damp I'll use a hair cream. So again I already mentioned some of the brands that I've been really enjoying I'll. Take that hair cream I'll put a lot more than I expected to use. I used to. I think I used to be too precious when it came to hair styling products for my wavy hair when you're blow drying your hair straight. In my opinion, less is more when it comes to the blow dry products, because you don't want to have some kind of an icky layer on your hair. But for my wavy hair and I assume also for curly hair. I actually want more product because it's just going to help lock in all of that hydration and moisture for my hair, so I like to start with a curl cream first, because I wanted to I kind of think of it like skin care. I like to lock in all of that hydration first so I'll run that through my hair and obviously scrunch just a little bit, I don't want to touch my hair too much because the more I touch it it the frizzier it starts to get and then, after That I'll take a real styling product like a gel or even a mousse and I'll put that in my hair again I'll use a good amount of it. I don't like to use a gel. That'S really crunchy, but more like a gel. That'S going to have a little bit of hold but still feel really soft from there. What I find to be very helpful with wavy hair, I'm sure this is helpful for curly, hair too. I do hear people say like. Oh, you should just hit. Let your hair dry naturally, and yes, I can definitely end up with pretty natural waves if I let it air dry, but my best waves come when I use a hair dryer with a diffuser. It has made a huge difference and now I've definitely seen the difference. Like there have been days where I just let my hair air dry with that cream and gel combination and then also used a diffuser and I'll, tell you, the diffuser helps you really Define those waves, because it's really setting it in place with the products in your Hair and also it gives more volume. I always find that when I I let my hair just dry, naturally just air dry, I always find that it's poopier on the bottom and doesn't have enough volume on top and sometimes it just doesn't dry throughout the day. So I'll end up with damp hair around the crown of my head and then dry hair at the bottom, so it almost looks like a mushroom. It'S not very flattering, and it doesn't look as good. So when I use a diffuser that helps tremendously, it makes my hair look so much better. I have a Dyson hair dryer, so it's definitely a bougie hair dryer. I love this hair dryer, and the thing that I have found is: if I make it too hot, then my hair doesn't look as good, so you have to find that right. Temperature for your hair as well. I try to put it like on a medium setting and at a medium heat, and that's usually the perfect temperature for my waves and then after that I try not to touch my hair. It'S a little hard not to touch your hair, especially because when it's big and wild it kind of gets all over the place. If you want to put your hair in a ponytail or something that is a little bit harder and when you have wavy hair, it can just mess up your waves. So when I'm wearing my hair wavy, I really try to avoid touching it. The good news is hair clips are really trendy, so I find that using a hair clip in my wavy hair doesn't disrupt my hair pattern that wave pattern as much as using a regular. You know like scrunchie or a hair tie, so I tend to use hair clips when I wear my hair wavy. But I'll tell you. I know a lot of people are like. Oh just wearing your hair. Naturally, wavy is so much easier, but I actually think it requires so much more maintenance, because I also find that I wash my hair so much more, like I wash my hair like every other day, because when it's wavy it starts to just look a little bit. Dull, even when I try to spruce up my waves because it's not really curly hair, it doesn't have that same effect when you try to Spruce it up. So that's what I figured out so far with my wavy hair, I'm only a few months in right, like as I continue doing this, I find I'm getting more confident. You know styling my own wavy, hair and wearing it wavy and everything, because I've gone so many years, basically doing what you see right now, and this has become kind of. Like my look, my go-to look, so I'm getting way more comfortable with my wavy hair. I get so many more compliments with my wavy hair and I love it, but I'm still very open to all of the tips and I'm talking about wavy hair. I really think there's a big difference between the way you treat wavy, hair and curly hair, and that's something I didn't fully understand until now. So if you have any other tips to share, definitely share in the comments below you can find me on Instagram, I'm at Susan Yara and I'll talk to you soon. Bye,

Anna: I needed this! Trying to get my natural waves to come out and it's been a struggle having them not look frizzy.

pale_emo_princess: this is super helpful. I never knew what hair type I had growing up bc my mom or I would always style it. then when I was 16 I chopped my hair short and realized that it was really wavy, almost curly but not quite. in the 10 years since I've done a lot of my hair that affected my hair texture and lately it's just been frizzy. I literally forgot that it was super wavy once upon a time lol so hopefully I can bring the waves out! I tried a curly hair routine the other day but it didn't really work for me. I can understand why after watching this video so I'm going to try your tips next!!

Abigail Pierce: Thank you for this video been struggling with my waves for a long time, discovered some these tips a year ago and I'm 27... please more videos on wavy hair!

Dane Gregg: I absolutely love the wavy look on you. It's so romantical! Thanks for your tips, I too have issues with finding the balance between curl to wavy. Going to give your method a shot!

Dannielle Burrus: As a wavy haired bae, I really appreciate this video! I need to get a diffuser ASAP. I air dry or braid my hair when I want to wear it wavy but I think it would be fun to take it to the next level with styling.

SummerAliX: Get the struggle!! My biggest struggle is what to do with 2nd - 3rd day hair

Dani Fenton: I have wavy hair & live on the TX coast where the humidity is constant. I’ve found what works best for me to combat frizz is to apply all products to soaking wet hair & then lightly scrunching with a microfiber towel to get rid of the excess water. I let it air dry and avoid touching it. Sometimes I’ll hover diffuse.

Courtney Jones: First off I want to say that you can’t be afraid to brush your hair while it’s wet Susan! I promise it’s not as scary as it seems. You can brush your hair while it’s wet to better distribute product through your hair, then you simply scrunch and plop to get the waves back. Also you always need to use a heat protecting primer to protect your waves from damage. My favorite products for my wavy hair (2B-2C)are: * wet brush or tangle teezer *EVA NYC Mane Magic 10 in 1 Primer * Twist by Ouidad Weather Up Weightless lotion * EVA NYC Gotta Bounce Curl Defining Cream * VerbxManesbyMell Curl Foaming Gel * Ouidad Advance Climate Stronger Hold Gel * AG Hair Curl Fresh Definer * Perfect Haircare Towel * Diffuser * Verb Ghost Oil Check out ManesbyMell’s YouTube channel and her wavy hair tutorials for the method that I use. I always use the wash/prep/style/dry/finish method. I use very lightweight products only to achieve volume and more defined waves and curls.

chicky875: your waves are so pretty! tabitha gingerich is my fav wavy girl here on youtube. (sadly there’s not enough wavy channels here imo) i recommend taking a look at her refresh routines because i think you could be able to get more days out of your hair! you’re already off to a way better start than i was when i started my wavy journey

Lucrece von Kasm: Very useful! Please keep us updated with new tips for wavy hair.

Marie S: I know a lot of people don’t like brushing their hair when wet, but I starting using a denman like brush in sections, then wiggle the strand to get the natural wave back in and then use whatever styling product. I find that it smooths out a lot of the frizz before I diffuse it.

Alexandra Nunes: Your description of your hair sounds a lot like mine. A game changer for me was brushing my hair right before I washed it and then not brushing it/combing it at all after the shower until the wave pattern has set. Aside from that my hair gets very very tangled so I have to brush it daily. After I have brushed it in the morning although the waves are bushed out and look super frizzy, I then apply a lot of hydrating mousse or a curl cream (it cannot be too sticky or too heavy so very hard to find) or a hair oil (if my waves have started to fall out towards the end of the week). I am able to make my hair last a full 4 to 5 days with this method. It basically involves putting products on my hair that indicate on the bottle to put on damp hair after the shower… I just discard the instructions and work it into the half end of my dry hair by scrunching it in and almost completely soaking my hair with it. When the hair dries with the product it has this beautiful wave pattern. You are right that finding the right product to juz it back up on days 2-5 is very very very hard with wavy hair because if the product is not hydrating enough it won’t do anything and the hair will look frizzy but if the product is too heavy it will weigh the hair down and sticky products will make the hair look like a hot messy nest.

Michelle Bennett: I just went from waist length to just under my shoulders length hair and now my waves/curls are definitely making my hair fluffy. So far the only styling product I've found that works for me is salt spray. I'm not sure how good it is for your hair though. I would think salt dehydrates

Veronica Ivanova: Happy to see you're embracing your waves ‍ I hope you just don't use negative language about it anymore. What's "neither here or there"?! Wavy hair is a type of hair on its own but still falls under curly hair or you can say it's in between straight and curly. Wavy hair is type 2. If you're looking for products, I recommend Curlsmith. Their curl quiz is really helpful with selecting the right products for you based on hair type and needs. I also like the Jessicurl Spiralicious Gel

kimberly figueroa: I have wavy hair and try the protien line from curl smith and style your hair right out of the shower then with all your products on put it in your microfiber towel while doing makeup then use your diffuser use hover method and pixie diffuse! Also use gel for lasting power and no need for frequent washes! I know it's a lot but you will feel confident in your gorgeous waves!

9FiveB: I hope you're staying safe amidst all the hurricanes and craziness down there Suzes

Christine Mack: I hope my waves can look as gorgeous!

PinkBombshellcasing: I needed this vid! Please do an update when you learn more!

Fabiana S: So true.. I find styling my wavy hair is more time consuming! If I do it properly in a way to make it actually look nice..

Hanna: My waves are a little looser (2B), but I feel like I can put off a wash while maintaining waves by braiding my hair at night to keep them from flattening out

A C: Product on soaked hair does it for me. Towel dry, air dry, and done.

Tressa Fisher: You need to perhaps go to Curlsmith and you can take their curl quiz to find out exactly which wavy you are; 2a/b most likely. then you can get exactly in your right lane and their products made a huge difference for me in that hydration and they'll match you up with exactly what products. I do the bowl method and do this scrunching really scrunching that in and you put on in your curl cream rake that in, prayer hands and scrunch it in and then do the bowl method and dunk it four times and scrunch it all the way up each time really getting the water out and then dunk it again and then come out with some real juicy more controlled waves. I think you will notice a real big difference. I wish I could send you a picture of my hair it's really long and thick and I've got some spirals in it but I'm a wavy as well

Jessica Brooks: I needed this video!!

Bacon: For wavy thin hair, I use ouidad out of thin hair. It won't work for Susan's hair though

Melody Cade: thanks for this video!!!! was needed!

Hailey Cooper: My hair is really wavy at the back but the front pieces barely wavy. I have found some curly hair products too heavy aswell. Also found if I style soaking wet my hair us too heavy so have to style damp. I find it more maintenance aswell

RamatoulieBo: Definitely makes sense that air drying would be tough with all the humidity in Miami! It's fighting you

A A: But I also want your straight hair routine too!!

Viridiana Avila: Diffusing your hair had been a game changer for me. Greatest point

rachieee: When will the sunscreen be back in stock?

Kymbi Met: You should really embrace the waves and wear your hair natural on this channel!!!!!!!

Meg A: Susan try JVN Air dry cream, it's a GAME CHANGER

Jenni P: Have you tried braiding ur hair at night for the in between wash??

Anne-Marie: I have always think that my hair is curly but they look similar than Susan 's .Maybe they are wavy.

Jac C.: Try a hair oil for shine to top it off ! Curl smith oil or verb ghost oil. It will help with the shine. Oh and maybe even look into how to refresh waves. It will help avoid washing so often

Viridiana Avila: Susan, India Baston is a great hair influencer for wavy hair if you would like to follow her.

To5ny6: I have multiple patterns and textures it’s so inconsistent

Martina: Brush your hair before washing or when you put a mask on. Then after rinsing it, do not brush it anymore. Just scrunch it/squeez it, and apply your styling products.
