How to get volume in your hair without any product without a blow dryer just using your hands? That is what i'm doing a video on today, because i get a lot of people asking me or they even leave comments. Like you know, i don't have a blow dryer, i don't want to use a blow dryer or i don't want to use product. I want to be as natural as possible. What do i do? How do i get more volume on in my hair so before i show you the actual technique, i'm going to talk about a few things, one you need to have the right hair type. So what i'm going to show you today works great on kind of this type of hair, whether it's pretty straight a little bit wavy. It would help, i guess, but you this really works best on someone. Who'S got pretty straight hair if you've got a decent kind of medium density, not where your hair is super super thin. Although it could, you could try it and if your hair is super thick, you know it's better to be kind of medium density or on a thicker side than you know, really really fine hair, that's where we might have to use a comb or something still not Having to use any sort of uh product or anything, you could still use it by back combing, which i've done videos on or teasing the hair to get some volume. So if your hair is very straight or very, very heavy, you're always going to have challenges of keeping your hair very full. That'S where you may need to use a comb in order to kind of tease the hair and get it to lift. That'S something that i've done many videos on where if you've got thick hair and you want to stay up and you want to prevent it from flopping down, then you have to do some sort of backcombing or something to support the base. So what do you do? What'S this magical technique, i'm going to show you all! Well, all you need is your hand as the tool check it out. Okay, so, as you can see here, the hair just wants to flop down a little bit and there's really not a lot of volume going on here. So what you need to do is you're going to use your fingers and you're going to rake the hair back. A little bit just to get a little bit of any knots out or anything. You want to make sure that you have no knots in your hair whatsoever. When you do this, okay - and i know people are going to ask me what hair length is ideal - the hair length that's ideal for this particular technique and this hairstyle. Well, the hair comes down. You know past the tip of the nose, so it's relatively long. This is probably about i'd, say six and a half to seven inches long in length, as you can see there. So this is the kind of length we're working with today. So this is how it's going to work. You'Re going to take your hand, run your fingers through the hair, and what i like to do is use your pinky right. Your little your nice pinky right there just to section off any sort of areas of hair right brush this out of the way also make sure the hair is fully dry too. You don't need any product with this, but make sure the hair is fully dry when doing this, or else it's not going to work so you're going to take your hand you're going to lift straight up like this and now what you're going to do is with The with your fingers you're going to go in and separate like this, so you can see i've got the sections of hair like that, you're going to go in and separate and you're going to start to kind of push down a little bit you're going to squeeze In so, the fingers are loose like this you're going to bring them tight together. So you have a good grip on the hair and you're going to start to push down a little bit that way and what that's doing it's back, combing and teasing the hair in a method that doesn't require any sort of blow dryer any sort of heat or Anything like that now, once you get the hang of this once you get on a roll, what you're going to do is then go section by section starting off in the back area and working your way forward. So, let's just bring this down a little bit you're going to take a section and the section should be about a half an inch thick. I'M going to insert the fingers like so and i'm going to lightly tease down like this, just to get a little bit of that cushion throughout the base, move that out of the way we're going to work towards the next section. Like this. Stick your fingers right in through the sections of hair and you're going to push down, so it's in and then push down this way. There we go. We'Ve got a little bit of teasing going on right there, and this is really an old old school technique and an old school method. That'S been done many many times in the past, but this is a quick i mean you can do this super super fast. It doesn't have to take you 10 minutes 25 minutes to do this. You could literally just grab your hair go in and push down a little bit here. The key is to make sure that when you go in with the fingers, you have a good tight grip on it and you're, pushing that excess hair downwards and think of it as creating a foundation or a cushion it's creating a cushion for the hairstyle meaning a Base or a foundation, so here we are right in the front and there it is, and you can see what's going to happen is the hair is basically going to stick straight up. So if you go back in and you hit some areas that didn't necessarily have the teasing or you think it's not enough, then simply just go back and push down as much as you can towards the bottom and look we're getting all sorts of hair sticking up. Now and we're getting a lot of that volume and texture that you didn't have before again, this is no product whatsoever, and i'm just trying to do this as fast as i can, while being while instructing, and i think we are almost done so after you have All this, could you put product in right? What'S the what's the deal with this? Well, i would suggest hitting, and the whole point of this is to say yes, you can do this with no product. I mean look at all that volume right. Look at all that volume. You can do this with no product yeah sure, but at the same time, if you're one of those people who wants to do this and you don't want to use product well, here's a solution. So what do you do now now? It depends on you what you do have to be careful about. Is you don't want to brush this all out and literally lose all that volume just put in so what you want to do is just lightly rake over on the top sections right lightly rake over with your fingers. Even you can even take your fingers and start to just piece out right piece out the top section like so and, as you can see here, what i'm doing is i'm just i'm not disrupting the base down with you here. But what i am doing is just really accentuating those pieces on top here and making them a little more have a little more of a flow so that the hairstyle looks a little more balanced and within minutes you could be done so here's the thing right. If you don't put any sort of hairspray in it and look at all this volume we have, if you don't put any hairspray what's going to happen, is there's a chance. It could collapse, maybe at some point throughout the day. Right again, that's all because you don't want to use product. This is the only thing really you can do to get any sort of volume without using a brush without using a blow dryer. When i say you want your hair to be dry, i mean it's almost like a contradiction. You need to use a blow dryer to blow dry, your hair, but if you just want to let it air dry right or the next morning, your hair is fully fully dry after you wash it at night, then this is the way to go. If your hair is damp anywhere, this is not going to work, because you need to have the hair dry to create that foundation and that cushion so if the hair is damp, this won't work. It has to be fully fully fully dry and again, everyone don't be afraid of using a blow dryer, because you think the heat's going to damage your hair. It'S not going to damage your hair if you use the blow dryer properly, and i've done many videos on this topic right. If you use a blow dryer improperly and you let it singe your hair for a long period of time, then yes, it may damage your hair. Let'S just say that you know you want something a little bit flatter. What you want to do is push down from the top right. You don't want to disrupt that base that cushion down here just push down this way right push it down closer to your head, if you think it's too high or too full. Well, that's the trick. Ladies and gentlemen, that's how you do it. Let me know in the comments below, if you try this out and oh my gosh it works, is it going to work for every single person chances? Are it may or may not right, but if it does work for you, that's awesome. It'S all about getting again the hand in that section, tightening the fingers and pushing down to create a cushion or a foundation for the rest of the style. It'S a really easy thing to do, and you'll be probably pretty surprised on how it's going to be a lifesaver for you, if you're trying to get more volume in your hair without having to use 8 million different things. So thank you all so much for watching. Don'T forget to like comment and subscribe and i'll see you next time for more videos with a slang. You

Epic Master: OMG I DID THIS BACK IN THE 80s WHEN DISCO- ING! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO DID THIS. IT WORKS, BUT IF YOUR SWEATING, YOU HAVE TO DRY IT WITH EITHER A PAPER TOWEL, OR BATHROOM HAND DRYER. IF IT WAS REAL SWEATY, I JUST SLICKED IT BACK IN A TWIST, IVE EVEN USED A INK PEN OR PENCIL TO HOLD IT! IT IS OLD SCHOOL, IM HERE TO ATTEST TO IT. -WHY AM I SCREAMING? lol.

Trev x: I'm trying to do this but just with my bangs. I've been styling my hair lately shorter with the bangs up alittle but I like them to be poofy and and have volume and just naturally flow rather than having to use hairspray and stuff

Ayo Huh: I have crazy thick hair that’s super curly but I get it relaxed every 9-10 weeks. Would it be ok to have them thin it a bit so it’s easier to style or would that just make it a frizzy mess?

Nick Seabolt: Forgot my blow-dryer in a rush haven't been able to pick up another one in a few days. Seen your video and knew to come to you. Thanks again, don't care how old the videos are they always come in handy.

mr mister: Love your videos, very interesting!

BirdyTayshus: I used to "palm tease" my hair in my punk/new wave days. When I had shaved sides (undercut?) and longer on top. Just used the palm to "matt" the base of hair on scalp. Probably not great for hair but I had no issues. Then it would stand straight up like a porcupine! Although I did use product.

Thomas: Hey, I have a lot of very fine, flat hair. It grows forward and I can’t really do much with it :( I want to try the modern sweep with short sides of one of your videos, do you think my hair would be good for that? (It kind of looks the same as the mannequins hair in that video, so that’s why I thought it might be possible)

Will: Me while watching the tutorial: this is BS Me while trying it: holy shit it works

Sandra R.: the best method i ever seen. I don't use blow dry anymore, just little hairspray

itsemrewhat: does this method damage hair?

Rashedul Kabir: Should the hand contact scalp while teasing?

Alexander G.I: My hair has always naturally gotten volume, it has always confused me.
