This is an amazing natural hair gel LOaDEd with essential oils and nutrients. While other gets work against your hair, this one (from nature) works with it, to restore it's healthy shine and add moisture back into the cuticles!

I love the way it makes my hair and hands feel after applying it. And unlike other chemically processed gels, it doesn't leave your hair rock hard, so you can comb it and restyle whenever you want, your hair just soaks it in and uses the nutrients...can you tell that I really love this stuff!

Hey guys so I mentioned my flaxseed gel in my last video. You didn't think I'd leave you hanging did you so it's basically the same way. Everyone else makes their gel, but I'll share the recipe anyway. Why not right so? It'S 1/4 cup of whole flax, seeds, 2 cups of water. I like this flax to water ratio, because it makes a great consistency, and it's also just enough to last me before it goes bad, so give it a mix and turn on the stove to bring it to a boil. You'Re gon na want to keep stirring making sure to free the bottom insides of the pan from any sticking flax seeds. While we're boiling prepare a container with some cheapo pantyhose, I, like those cheetah knee-highs that you can buy at the local drugstore for 50 cents. Each keep stirring you can see the water beginning to thicken and congeal. This looks great. You can see the media's from the flaxseed beginning to float on top and the water is getting really thick now. This is the perfect time to porn stream. The water is a perfect consistency, not too thick just slightly watery. We want it this way so that it's easy to strain and don't worry it'll thicken as it cools now. I just use a thin plastic tongue to slide the gel out of the pantyhose. Some people use their fingers, but I think they're, crazy. The water is boiling hot round two. Now the end of the batch is always the thickest so prepare for battle and here's the battle check out that consistency. Now that's a gel. I combined my two earnings and mixing some great essential oils. Vitamin E first semi preservative antioxidant improves circulation in the scalp and is great for hair repair basil, essential nourishes the hair and scalp strengthens and promotes circulation. Rosemary essential antioxidant helps prevent hair loss and increases circulation in hair growth. Ylang ylang stimulates hair growth and lavender essential for hair growth and circulation. Now mix the oils with the gels for a nice smooth finish. It smells great. This stuff is so thick see how it bounces back now transfer your gel into an airtight container and keep it in the fridge. This will last you for three weeks with the oils helping to preserve it. I say that's a lot of gel for just a quarter cup of flat seats. Don'T throw out your seeds also keep those in an airtight container in the fridge for next time. Not only is this a great natural alternative, but it's also economical a bag of flax seeds will only run you about three to six dollars and, of course, the finished product, gooey and wonderful. My hands and hair are always so moisturize. After using this, I promise you will never use that drying store-bought gel again. I hope this helps bye.

Andrea G: Just a couple hints for the other newbies out there:: It started to boil after about one minute on HIGH, and foam over almost immediately. I turned the heat to MEDIUM and it continued to boil nicely and only took about five minutes to be at what I thought to be the right consistency.

ItsShaunaRenee: Just made my second batch using same seeds from first time and same stocking. This is about as economical as it gets. Woot woot. Thx Whitney!

WhitNey Allen: I love this recipe!! But i wanted something that added a little scent so i substituted 1/2 a cup of the water for rose water. It smells amazing!!

AliDu: FYI... A wire strainer works perfectly! No fuss whatsoever. I just sit a wire strainer over a large glass measuring cup and pour the hot liquid in there. Then move the seeds around in the strainer with a spatula and everything comes out just fine. Super quick and easy.

Empress Naima: Flax seed gel is a great substitute for eggs when you're cooking and baking too. I've made cookies, cakes, soups, used it as thickener for gravy, plus all sorts of stuff with it. I even make an imitation heavy cream with it by boiling the flax seeds in almond or coconut milk. You can do all the same things with chia seeds too.

Steven Evans: My wife made this. OMG her twist was beautiful.  She loves ur channel.

Linda B: Read about this for weeks (a few months, now) when deciding and beginning my transition to natural hair (aka, stopped relaxing). Just tried it yesterday. WOW! It gives me the same results as Shea Moisture's Curl Souffle. Wonderful!

mizzpoetrics: I'm soooo impressed w/this gel! Girl, thank you!!! I boiled my seeds w/lavender, rose & hibiscus. I added tea tree oil, eucalyptus & lemongrass e.o, & a little olive blossom f.o. For extra moisture, I mixed in some of my whipped shea butter hair & body butter. My hair is loving it, & I think this is 1 of the best things since sliced bread!!!

Christina Nicholls: Finally found something that can save my hair. When it’s natural (curly), it’s so dry from heat styling, and the ends are like frayed bristles. Thank you!!

ayikatho: Ok. So I made this flaxseed gel and I'm sooooo glad I did!!! My hair was soft, shiny, and smelled great! It made my wedding updo hairstyle look amazing!!! I LOVE your channel!!! ♥♥♥

kcl060: Thanks for the recipe! You can actually use the knee high and tie a knot to use it like cheese cloth to just put the flax seeds inside and place it directly into the water to avoid the whole straining process.

Big Mona: I made this last week, straining was the toughest! I chickened out and used my usual store bought gel BUT today, I decided to use my diy whipped Shea butter and flaxseed gel and I promise you- MY WASH AND GO IS PERFECTION!! It's so defined, fluffy, and soft. I don't think I'll ever use anything else. THANK YOU!!!

Kristen Speller: Love this beyond words and it holds my hair so well! It feels AMAZING putting this in my hair! Thanks girl!

The Effortless Naturalista: Just made my second batch. The first batch lasted about 3 weeks. But the seeds from that batch molded, so I had to start over with fresh seeds.  Super easy to make -- I just added a teaspoon of olive oil to the first batch, teaspoon of shea butter to this batch. I used a mesh strainer. It's a great replacement for regular gel and the twist-outs are stellar.

Denise Harris: I finally tried this recipe it is wonderful. I put my seeds in the knee high and boiled them I did not have to strain. The idea of straining is what took me so long to try it out.I'm so glad I did.

Carmen Julien: I made this gel based off your video and LOVED it!!! Thank you Whitney. My daughter watches your channel all of the time like your family is hers! lol

katgirl205: This flaxseed gel is my new staple. I did a 2 strand twist out my hair lasted all day in rainy weather. Thanks for the recipe.

Polly Galmore: Hi!  Made the gel last week and used it last night as my mid-week styling aide.  Amazing results!  Hair is baby soft, no residue, big curls and my pattern is beautiful. The appearance and texture did not bother me like I thought it would.  Definitely will continue to use it....Thanks Naptural85!

ilinaeternity: Lovely tutorial! I love the positive vibes from your videos :). Really appreciate your hard work.

Terimuzik: I am so excited! I am currently transitioning! Got braids yesterday and I am planning to take them out in March and get rid of the relaxed ends!...Can't wait to be fully natural! Thanks for the great video!

Charmaine Cox: Thank you so much for this tutorial :) I did this today and it turned out amazing!!!

C B: My mom got me & my daughter into this! Its amazing and effective! Great video. Thank you

Happinefe: I've been with naptural85 for five years and her vids never get old... especially when I forget my routine best practices. Thanks

Andrea G: Also, I didn't split it into two (one liquid and one gel like was shown on the video), I just poured and squeezed all into one cup, and it worked just fine. The knee high hose was a GREAT tip. This gel works AMAZINGLY, my hair is so so soft, controlled and bouncy, and smells great!

Lymanda Teele: just made my 1st batch of this gel for my daughter. Her aunt used it on her hair a few months ago and it's the 1st gel that she didn't complain about. Thanks!

ItsShaunaRenee: Was SO EASY! First time it worked like a charm. The recipe that is. Can't wait to try on my hair

BeLovely.Always: The results are in.....and I LOOOOOOOOOOVE it!!! My hair is so shiny and the curls are amazing :-) Thanks Naptural85

Jewel J: Just had to revisit this as I’ve not made this in a while. Such good quality info. You’re the best Whitney. Thank you

Dolls: Love love love this girl! She shares technics and is so helpful not to mention she is beautiful and her hair is so healthy! Thanks for teaching us the naptural way!

Nina Millan: Hey Whitney, My daughter and I love your channel! I made this gel with her recently and she stated that it flaked after she used it. We used organic flax seed, tea tree oil, jojoba oil, peppermint essential, and lavender essential oils ( I couldnt find the ones you used surprisingly). Do the essential oils make a difference? Is there something we did (over boiling?) that caused the flaking?

Ruby Young: I have been styling my hair using curly like me method so with the conditioner and this wonderful gel that you taught us how to make my hair looks great. Thank you very much your hair looks great by the way. I've been wearing my hair natural for the past 22 years. My hair goes down to the middle of my back and at first it was really hard to where it natural but now there's so much knowledge about curly hair its great. The first time I didn't relax my hair my beautician picked up a piece of my hair and said what do you want me to do with this. That's the last time I went to a black hair dresser because she just didn't know what to do. She was so determined that I get my hair relaxed. But I was sick of the break ends and having short hair thanks again bye.

Lulu C: I tried this for my wash and go..perfection. My curls stayed in tact and well defined.

Jasmine James: omg this stuff is the bomb! i just made mine adding wheat germ oil (ceramides), sunflower oil (to soften coarse strands), jojoba oil (emoilents), my oil blend from my beautician, rosemary ess. oil, and lavender ess. oil. I just put it on a small section of my hair (half relaxed, half natural) and omg! My hair is actually moisturized and it held a curl in under 5 minutes with a flexirod. I'm usually lazy, and I never do DIY hair stuff, but naptural's hair is gorgeous so I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. If you're hesitant on trying this and your hair is dry, coarse and hard to moisturize like mine, definitely try this. Thanks @*****! ***UPDATE***  In the recent flaxseed gel batch I made I pretty much eliminated all the oils in the recipe and just used ylang ylang essential and a little bit of rosemary essential oil just for scent and to preserve it. Without the extra oils, the gel had a much stronger hold and my hair wasn't crunchy the next day.

presentlyhappy: This is great stuff. I made it with the flax seed I first soaked over night for flaxseed tea. I heated the used up flaxseed just as you did and it did still thickened. I added some lavender and hemp seed oil. Great idea on using the hose... Thanks again my hair loves it.

roses09: I made it a few days ago and my hair loves it!!! I only added the rosemary and lavender oil, but also used tea tree oil. Also used shea butter in my hair while in the shower.

Naija Kinks: Great video, instructions were very clear. Gonna try this out soon, thank ya x

Kat Kat: I love this recipe! I put my gel in a pump bottle after it cools. It's so much easier to use that way.

Black&White: Hi Napural :-) Gd clip, as always. Right to the point. NO unnecessary earful! Keep it up, girl♥

Alicia Moore: I just finished mine!! So excited to use it! Thank you for sharing.

BTalise87: I made this tonight, perfect consistency the very first try. I added my oils, it smells like tangerine goodness. I can't wait to use it tomorrow!!!! Thanks :)

Stacy Randle: Made and tried it for the first time last night on my curlformer set and O M G!!!!! the best results ever and my hair feels and looks AMAZING!!!!!!

Jen: Thank you so much for this! Just did it today and LOVE the results! My hair is finally happy! Thank you for this video. Side note: I did not have hosiery but did have cheese cloths on hand (found in the baking asle) worked great for me. [The strainer didn't work but it was a good suggestion.] Edit to add: I'm one of the unfortunates affected by DevaCurl so my curls have been lackluster and I don't trust hair products right now.

hhhkknvvcf: I really appreciate how clear & to the point your video is!! I also love how clean your stove is . Thank you for uploading this

Davy Abad: I loved this, thanks for sharing. One tip though, I think a lot of the 'battle' is caused by the use of the pantyhose. It's elastic, so it wants to stretch rather than let the gel through. It might be easier if you use cheesecloth or muslin.

Latonya Wright: This is great! I never knew you could make your own gel. I will be trying this.

Makeup By Bebos: Best natural hair recipe ever! I've tried it so many times and my hair's natural state is puffy and frizzy. What this does it calm all that down and adds a shine to it.

Thrasher: Thank you a million times; I'm going to purchase the flaxseeds. Shocked at the simplicity of the recipe and its effectiveness as well. Keep up the good work.

Ivy Dior: Used your recipe to make flax seed gel. Works perfect for my hair. Thanks

Kristen S. Redd: Great recipe, easy to follow! Thanks so much!

Nicole Ansley: This can also be used for a natural lubricant! It works awesome! Minus the oils

MyPerfectJourney: I bought some whole flax seeds at TJ Maxx yesterday and made my first batch of hair gel this morning, which I proceeded to use an hour later with my wash & go (I could not wait). So far so good. Definitely NOT drying. I used different oils/essential oils in mine since I didn't have what you suggested in the video. Thanks for the recipe/demo!

Arge Garcia: Thanks for sharing. I started making my own flax-gel for my hair. I love your video because you put essential oils and explain what they are for. I have also made it for a friend of mine, she was very pleased with it. Thanks again.

SweetTea742: This was amazing!!! Thank You!!! I was a bit iffy on using gelatin so I am happy I found this. After becoming frustrated with finding the perfect products for natural hair, I said screw them all and I have decided to make my own shampoo, conditioner and daily hair moisturizer. However, I saw my store bought gel with the ingredient "methychloroisothiazoline" and said no way! This has to go! Thanks again :) btw does this hold styles well?

MsFredericks: So I finally tried this!! Turned out extra thick but the oils make it smell so good! I didn't have a tongue to help strain so I was like, I can take the heat and use my fingers...WRONG! lol so I used the handles of my can opener! The clean up was not fun at all but hopefully all goes well when I use it for my two strand twist!!

SoulfulRose: Hi Naptural85, thanks for sharing this recipe. I've just made my very first flaxseed hair gel and feel pretty excited! It turned out just like you described and I can't wait to try it, after it cools down of course lol

ayikatho: That's a great idea if it works! me too I haven't tried flaxseed gel yet because of the straining. Thanks for the tip! I think i'll finally give this gel a try later today using your technique! :-)

Tracy Dixon: Been dying to try this for quite some time so today I did and I couldn't be happier! The essential oils smell divine and the light hold. BTW - If you're looking for essential oils message me!

Lulastic Hippyshake: I make and use this hair gel all the time! It makes your hair so so soft! and it really works :D

Queen: So I finally tried this...I had the perfect consistency but the when I went to squeeze the concoction out of the stockings..failed, think it was too thick. I will try it again because I love the idea of diy, natural products that are much better than manufactured, chemically induced produced. Thank you! BTW; followed your pre-poo routine for my daughter today (added a few extra yummies). I'm excited to see how her hair turns out!

naturallykim: Following your recipe, mine turned out perfect. Thanks!

Reesee Cup: this gel is amazing!!! Used it on my sisters hair and my own this week and already feel like throwing out my old gels

Christine Flores: Thanks so much for this video. I can't wait to make my flaxseed gel today!

LilMD2011: So, I know I'm not the only one who's watched this video a hundred times, PERPLEXED over wanting to try this recipe but extremely low on funds or maybe unable to get to a place that sells whole flax seeds. During one of many health kick months awhile back, I purchased some flax seed MEAL to add to my smoothies. Back to the dilemma, every internet source I'd found said gel from meal couldn't be done.....Well, I've SOLVED that problem and you're gonna smack yourself in the forehead in just a second. **Drum roll please? **.....#RepurposedTeaBags :-) #IWantPatentedRights lol...I just carefully undid the tea bags, refilled it with flax seed meal a tsp at a time and fastened it with a small safety pin. I used 4 bags full in maybe 2 cups of water, boiled them and stirred occasionally.I also added 2tsp of honey, a few drops of tea tree lavender EO, a glob of Aloe Vera GEL and a couple squirts of Vitamin E. It does take a little longer than 10 min...I averaged 30 per batch, but it saved me a few coins when i needed them...:-) Hope I've helped someone! Be blessed naturals! !

krdortch: Made this last night - piece of cake! Added jojoba, lavender, coconut and avocado oil and put in fridge. Can't wait to try it...oh and choose wisely the container you put the hot flaxseed gel in...wasn't thinking and my plastic container melted. So I transfered to a glass container then a plastic one once it cooled off...Thanks Naptural85!

jnicolebutts: I find the bulk section at whole foods to be a tad cheaper 2.49 a lb which normally the prepackaged bag at whole foods is close to 6.00 for a pound and a half. I found your tutorial to be helpful... thank you!

Kira Bracero: Hi love the video! Need some more details: - how long did cook the seeds for ? - can you list the oils that you mentioned? Did hear exactly what they were. -what brand if oil did you use and where did you buy it ? Thank you!

Alexa Michelle: This music is so soothing :) amazing DIY! I can't wait to make it ❤️

&a.l.l.thatjazz: I just made this using your instructions and it came out perfectly. I'm in love. I'll never use another gel. How does this hold your hair for twist outs and perm rod curls?

Maureen Gordon: I saw someone with this last weekend and love it. She told me what she did and I promised to get mine done this week. Your's look great. I I will be purchasing my flax seed tomorrow and start my process going. How often do you put the gel on? Thanks for the video.

AJR Curls: What size container did you use for your flax gel? How many times can you reuse boiled flaxseeds? I really look forward to trying this out. Thanks!

MorLuv 5: Your tutorials are simply amazing. Thank you so much for sharing, your awesome!!!

Tracyann Farquharson: Made my first batch of flax seed gel and its a- mazing can't wait to try the Shea butter recipe

Angela Guyton: I tried this 2 days ago and am so grateful for this video and you Naptural85!  I saw your latest video about using flaxseed gel, searched and found this video which shows you how to make it.  I will keep this in my repertoire forever!  We sure have come a long way baby!

Mina Jau: Great video.! I had no idea you I could make your own gel. I am trying this within the next week. This will definitely save me trips to the hair store which is a good 20 minutes from where I live...

Alexis c: I just made my batch yesterday I added tea tree oil, lavender oil, and olive oil. It came out too watery :s but I still used it for my mini twists which came out awesome :) will try again when I run out

RunWithTheHatchet: I have heard that using a coffee press to strain out the seeds immediately after boiling works really well, makes no mess (other than the press, which is supposedly easy to clean afterwards,) and is less of a 'fight' than with the stocking. Others have said it works great; I have yet to try it myself. Maybe something to try if you have a press, and no cheapy stockings lying around.

Chamik Faulkner: I saved this video years ago. I just made this for the first time today I cannot wait to use it. Thank you!

kreativebeautii: That is awesome! Its amazing what we can do with natural products! Thanks for sharing

Cecilia Hem Lee: I am ♥ your flax seed gel, my hair is 4c and is now extremely soft and day 2 is no longer an ordeal.  I love what you do!! Are you planning on writing a book?! I will buy a copy for each one of my friends.  Thank you!!

Ummliyah007: Can anyone share their experience about how well the flaxseed gel works? Does it flake? Does it get super hard? Does it give good shine? Does it lay down the edges very well?

Rebecca Lamb: Can't wait to try the recipe this weekend. Trying to give my EcoStyler gel a break - it's starting to dry my hair out. Thanks Naptural85 for sharing!

Renee Gardner: I've been watching this video forever, and finally made my first batch today :) Im wondering if I put too many drops of the oils in there though, and hope its not a critical issue :/ I did 5 drops of rosemary, 6 of a blend of lavender and tea tree. Hope this isnt bad. Yikes =$ Is this okay??

Cami C: Haha, my daughter ate my flax seeds when I was done. She said it taste like oatmeal. Its healthy! Thank for the video

Jenny Hicks: Yes you can use ground flax seeds I picked them up by mistake and used them following the recipe and the gel came out great

The Godfrey's: A friend of mine used chia seeds. Not sure if they have the same properties, but the consistency was the same. After seeing these gels, I have no clue why I ever used store bought styling gels (or store bought anything after watching your homemade/DIY vids). You learn something new everyday. Thanks chica! ^_^

Abhi Bh: AMAZING!! been looking for something like this since ages. thanks!

janisa reeves: Omg i'm soooooooooo trying this!!! I didn't know we could make our own gel!!! I'm gonna look for rose oil to put in mine.

Krystal Aguilar: Ratio Quarter cup whole flax seeds : 2 cups of water 1/4 flax : 2 water

Soul Spark: Flaxseed gel is absolutely amazing ! Really happy about the results.

Starlet Moore: Omg smells fantastic, I used the same essential oils a made an 8 oz size. About to use it now!

kawaiiaix: This is Fantastic. I avoid using gel because of how much it drys out my hair & leaves it with a horrible after texture. & so have been using hair cremes instead, But opting recently for the even more Natural hair products route. This is great for me. Thank you.

della k: Yay!!!!! I made some flaxseed gel, its soooo awesome thank you for this tutorial!

moni4eva1: I will never buy drying store bought gel again this stuff is absolutely amazing

La Keisha Fleming: Currently my favorite product. I use it in combination with shea naturals leave in conditioner to give me a little more slip... Perfect and my curls be popping.. lol thx Naptural85 :)

Odris Ruiz: Looks great! Can't wait to try it. Thanks!

Halika Taylor: This is perfect..I can make this for my little sis. Thanks c:

Evette Phoenix: This stuff is unbelievable! My hair is thick and it holds it! God Bless You! I LOVE IT!!!

allison scott: ok so i decided that there must be a better way to extract the gel. i decided to try boiling the seeds and then poured the whole liquid into my french press coffee maker. and swoosh like buttah the plunger went down so easily and i just poured the gel into a jar. it was so simple you must try it!

ivy blue: Love it!!!! Out of all the videos yours is the only one that said you could reuse the flaxseeds to make another batch. I just made some and I throw the seeds in the garage:( Well next time can't wait to try it on my head next wash day. Thank you for sharing :)

TheThobiism: I made this last night after watching this video - OMG: I love this stuff. Day one of having it in my hair and I already see the difference. I didn't add all the oils as you listed to do so (I was in a hurry so couldn't purchase them - silly me), I  would like to know how long my flax seed gel may last in this case? Thanks for all the videos - they are super helpful!
