Hey guys so I'm a natural hair stylist based in New Orleans Louisiana. I get a lot of questions about blow drying. Yes, I blow dry all of my clients for most hairstyles, except for maybe two or three, so some of the benefits are of blow drying. Is it helps with single shine knots on the ends and it makes it easier to style your hair, so you don't have to fight against texture. If you found this helpful drop a fire emoji and check the comments, because I am having a free online training.

Sunshine K.: I've been blow drying my 14 yo daughters kinky hair for about 3 years now. She has A LOT of hair. Blow drying actually helped her hair, zero heat damage and makes her styles last longer. ❤️

TheRealCamille: You lost me at fight against texture. There is no such thing as fight against a natural texture unless the hair is damaged to no repair. Natural hair is beautiful and has no fight, just moisturize it and section it off and have patience. The fact that you blow dry nearly almost all of your clients just to be able to style it, means you’re not really a natural hair stylist if you have to manipulate it just to style it. Ya lost me ‍♀️

Quinnera J.: I have started blow drying more because I realized that my hair grows better straight. When curly it will knot together and break off.

August Virgo: My hair grew a lot during the Pandemic because I was no longer getting it blow dried at the salon. I limit the number of times to few times per year because my hair is prone to breakage with excessive use. Clients should be allowed to chose.

RB: I’m a natural hair girl and I can say after washing my hair I air dry and don’t have the brittleness at all. I put moisturizer in my hair while it’s still wet section by section and let it continue air drying. Never had a problem. Blow drying is what makes my hair crunchy and dried out plus the ends feel hard. If you’re a natural hairstylist you should know how to work with natural hair in all stages. Everyone doesn’t conform to the same standards for their hair care regime and that’s okay. Do what works for you. I’ve completed my 1,000 cosmetology course while in high school over 20 years ago. I have blow dried my hair when I was younger but have completely changed my routine that works for me. Just saying everyone is different but if I go to a stylist and they tell me they can only blow dry my hair which is thick and course I will leave. Stylist should be able to adapt to their clients. If you moisturize your hair it won’t be hard from my experience. And don’t forget to put a leave in conditioner it helps with other products of your choice. My hair is long and healthy as well. I section my hair in braids to stretch it as well. Have a blessed day. ❤

Bitty Boop: Whether or not it makes the hair easier to work with is not the question. My hair is easier to work with after I use a flat iron on it, that doesn't mean the flat iron isn't damaging my hair.

kmajestic123: I truly believe the benefits to blow drying is 100% dependent on how the client’s hair responds to blow drying and should not be simply generalized as beneficial or non-beneficial.

Jamelia McIntosh: As a cosmetologist this is so true. Heat protectants and healthy hair care routines are in play too. You don’t have to blow dry it though for it to be cared for easily. Just have to do what works for you.

Kellie W.: I think blow drying does weaken the hair to some degree, making deep conditioning necessary. This may be why a lot of naturals think they have to deep condition every wash day, bc they are used to it from when they use to perm or flat iron their hair regularly. Without heat (or other damaging chemicals), I don't need to deep condition. So that tells me it does weaken the hair. That being said, I know "straight hair naturals" who flat iron regularly and still have healthy hair, so it's all about knowing how to maintain your hair, just like color.

ananse77: It depends on how you like to style your hair. If you plan to wear your hair curly most of the time, regular blowdrying doesn't make sense. But if, like me, you want to wear your hair in stretched styles and manage it with minimum effort, blowdrying can be helpful if done properly.

gensai93: I've decided to start blow drying my hair on wash days and it makes such a difference when it comes to detangling and the amount of knots, cuts the time in half. Anything is going to damage your hair, but stretching makes it easier to manipulate and minimizes damage.

Monique W: My daughter and I have 3C/4A hair, and blow drying is necessary. We used to have so many fairy/single strand knots at the ends especially...that stopped once I started blow drying. We both have long, thick, and healthy hair!

Kita Khat: My hair is a little dense, but the strands are medium to fine. It stretches easily with tension and low heat. Low heat is good for pre braids. Higher heat resists reversion better for a couple weeks of wear. My straighter hair does maintain length better, because I get fairy knots really bad when my hair is worn freely and curly. Heated stretching provides luster, moisture retention, and manageability. I don't always blowout before a heat brush. Sometimes I just apply one form of heat.

Bert Rand: Blow drying also helps move the sebum (natural oil) and product down the hair shaft, providing an even smooth coat. Heat opens cuticles to absorb nutrients, as well.

princesstriceestar: My stylist also encourages blow drying my hair for the same reasons. For reference I'm a 4b-4c natural hair diva that has super soft hair. I'm prone to breakage while wet and single strand knots. I had the most breakage styling my hair wet or letting it air dry. I wash my hair once a week, always deep condition, and use a heat protectant when drying. It really does work for me.

BelllaDonna: At the end of the day, do what works best for YOUR hair

Renee: I'd rather have my hair blow-dried then stay under the dryer for an hour or more!

Gothamcat🥀: I notice that I have had wayyy less breakage, knots and split ends when I blow dry and use a good heat protect. It helped me in my hair growth journey, but air drying helps me retain moisture as well so I just give my hair a break and air dry it 1-2 times per month ‍♀️

yxyz: Blow drying my kinky hair gives me a peace of mind and my hair never breaks like crazy.

C Foster: I blow dry after every wash with my Revair. I tried to go back to air drying to save time and because everyone says it's healthier. I just can't do it. I've been in the hair game for well over a decade and have never been able to successfully air dry my natural hair. It's always hard and crunchy and trust me I've tried everything. The best part about blow drying regularly is that I don't have single strand knots so WAY less breakage. Also, using the Revair allows me to get maximum stretch with zero manipulation while using it.

Aurelia Crowder: I stay away from most stylist who say they are natural hairstylist. The issue isn't their capability to " do" natural hair it's more so the stylists have a 1size fit all methodology. It always contains " straightening" of some sort and never really natural state of being styling.

Jakaya Boykin: I blow dry my hair every time I wash my hair which is once a week. If I don’t my hair would be brittle.

Cheryl Montanez: LIKED, AGREE. HER HAIR & SCALP LOOKS CLEAN HEALTHY & STRONG. YOU DO A GOOD JOB.

Yolonda Jefferson: I have very fine hair. Blow drying totally ruins my curls and they take months to bounce back when they’re stretched out by heat. Will you or can you cover this in your class on Feb 11?

Miss Spencer: Instead of believing you need to fight against texture. Be patient and work with the texture.

MsBeeNice2: I have natural hair... i hate when you said, "easier to style the hair so you don't have to fight against texture." Our hair IS textured, and it is this rethoric that made all of us feel insecure growing up. I have no problem with my hair in its NATURAL state. No fighting. Just gentle tlc.

Kaila Richardson: I have 4Z hair Blow drying causes my hair to break off. Unless I'm getting box braids, I don't blow dry anymore and my hair has been thriving ever since And if I do, I use cool/low air. But to each their own ‍♀️ What works for some doesn't work for everyone!

noxiouschocolate: My mum would always blow dry everyone’s hair before braiding every two weeks, made it easier to manage, though our hair was never long, but that’s because I need a trim

Habibtay Chettle: I African thread my hair and it still comes out looking as straight as a blow dried hair. So I know for sure that no hair stylist can convince me to ever blow dry my hair.

Audrey Stowers: Looks healthy & manageable ☺️

summersms25: I wish I had started blow drying my twins hair years ago! I’ve had to trim their hair so much we never saw length but now the length retention is happening, the wash days are smoother and faster. Stretching the hair, either sit dry or blow dry, helps prevent breakage and encourages length retention.

Toni Turner: The only problem I have is that the last time my hair got blow, dried, it took out all the elasticity, well, not all, but it took me months to get my kink back.

Solutions with Sonya: I’ve been natural since 2009 and consistently have hair my hair blow dried and get compliments on how healthy it is you have to use a ceramic blow dryer and the right products to prevent heat damage and my stylist is a national Paul Mitchell Rep and she taught me so much about using quality products and flat irons/ blow dryers for African American hair

Alicia Phillips: It’s sad that black people feel they need to change their texture to do black hairstyles. Blow drying is not the enemy and those who do it of choice, that’s ok. But to say as a natural hair stylist you basically need to blow dry natural hair to do it. she is not fighting texture but her job description.

Don’t come for me unless I send for you 🤷: “So you don’t have to fight against your texture”? Weird yo hear coming from a black natural hair stylist…

PARK JIHYO IS THE QUEEN OF QUEENS: How are you a natural hair stylist when you can’t or won’t braid the hair in it’s natural state???

Get Marvelous with Jasmin Marie!: I blow dry my hair with low heat and cool air for as little heat damage as possible

Yolanda Emba: I can't speak for everyone, however, blow drying damaged my hair.

silversouljah: Fighting against texture huh? This is why I do my hair myself

Yogie Gemini: Can you include a tutorial on splitends along with that blowdrying session? I don't want to cut my hair short but I have split ends.

💋Annette b 2 💋: blow drying doesn’t damage your hair, but the heat does.

CocoaKisses247: We need to stop trying to police people’s hair. Our hair is beautiful no matter what we choose to do with it. Didn’t we learn anything from the natural hair policing of the past?!!! India.Arie said it well, “I am NOT my hair!”

Mersay W.: Fight against texture baby it is what it is, work with the texture!! The texture is beautiful!! Natural curls look way better than blown out hair or straight hair❤❤❤

beautifulblackbutterfly 17: The king & queen of all hair is Black hair. We definitely need more natural hair stylists here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ✊

Anah: I blow dry after every wash. I see absolutely no need to be dealing with knots and tangles when there is a simple solution. A good moisturizer and heat protectant and there are no issues.

ari Cole: Blow drying is just fine when the right products are used

Usman Mariam olabisi: it helps my hair stay in place alot especially while I style my hair into african cornrow it lasts for two weeks

Sunkistbabe: I feel like air drying is cool if you live in a hot climate but if not the blow dryer is your best friend.

TheNenaBrown: “So you don’t have to fight against texture”…. Not from a “natural hair stylist”….

PrettyP: My hair is 3c, thick and tangle-prone. Blow drying helps to detangle my hair and makes it easier and faster for me to style all of this hair.

Mr Coconut: I'm from an all black country and the hairdressers I've been to blow dry their clients hair unless they have like sensitive scalp, when it's not blow dried the hair is more difficult to climb and u can tell it wasn't blow dried when it's styled, it just looks bad.

K. Karma S: Nope. I think not. I use my RevAir a few times a year and get a silk press once a year. That's all the heat I'll allow. It's not about how much hair you grow. It's about how much hair you keep.

Moredebbs OWOEYE: I believe blow drying is working for me my hair tangles so easily and I loose a lot of hair through tangle since I started blow drying it’s been very minimal and my edges are growing really fast. I was really surprised at first but it’s not like every week I blow dry like every 3months or so with heat protectant

Keah Harrison: I really just think that blow drying saves them time. That’s it. There’s not health benefit to it. It just makes it easier for them to style.

Erika Black: Mkay so One thing that I know is... blowdrying damages TF out of my hair ROLLER SETS for the win...the health/length of my hair can testify to that

Kyra Ely: I blow dry on cool . Stretching my hair has definitely helped me maintain length and get to my scalp .

ImAngieBlackwell: Easier isn’t always better. I wouldn’t sacrifice the health of my hair for the convenience of the stylist but everyone is different. Heat loosens the natural curl pattern.

A: I feel like stylists who mostly do natural hair styles only do a way better job at blowdrying. The stylists that I've gone to when I got my hair braided were all not really gentle with my hair. Rushing and not doing the tension method so it's a lazy blow dry. They just wanted to get to the braiding part fast smh. You did a great job!

joejoe buckzz: I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE THAT IT IS SO MUCH EASIER WHEN SOMEONE ELSE BLOW DRYS YOUR HAIR AND STRAIGHTEN IT.

kimone99: I think it’s the ‘fight against texture’ comment that’s rubbing people the wrong way. I have 4c hair and after I take out my protective style blow drying is a must for me. If I don’t do it would be full of knots.

Dacia’s DIY: U Wint be blowing drying me if I don't want that! If your a natural hair stylist u need to work with hair in it's natural state!

Carrie Dennis: There's nothing wrong with blow drying the hair if you are a good hairstylist. Maybe because she uses the word "natural" stylish because natural means to keep it in its natural state. Once you do anything to straighten the hair, it's no longer natural. I have been a licensed salon owner and have been a hairstyle for years. Old school in the house. CQuarters. Ijs. Love in the house.

Natural Woman💕: Nothing wrong with blow drying and flat ironing the natural hair just don't recommend doing it every day...I do it once a month during a wash day.

bunnybeeyou: When I first went natural I washed my hair every 2 weeks. Air drying was fine until my hair grew longer. The longer my hair got the longer it took to dry. Once I found out my was growing mold i never air dried my hair again.

Kim Miles: Gurl the blow drying is great. Keep up great work

Care Bear: Blow drying with hair oil acts like a hot oil treatment for me. Makes my hair softer and more manageable.

Psychology Eats: "fight against texture" I LOVE how the language is changing about Our hair!

lovey b: I can tell you care 4 the hair. When straight the hair looks healthy and thick.

Eureka Yorkman: What does "fight against texture" mean? I've never heard that come out of the month of a natural hairstylist!

knoni: What do you use after blow drying to get it from getting too dry?

Ray Behrle: Texture IS NATURAL. The end. PS, if you have knots on yo' ends it needs a trim STAT.

A. H.: I hate how stiff my hair feels after air drying so I'm sticking with the blow dryer.

Austonia Manago: Damage what? I neeever understand people saying that. Moisturize with a touch of water and hair product ...zero problems. Keeping your ends very regularly snipped will forever keep your hair thick and healthy. Heat is fine especially on natural hair.

Shine Jenkins: Yes same!! I am a hairstylist in Texas and, I pretty much blow dry all my clients hair. I also use products to protect and treat the hair. My clients hair stay healthy and grows consistently

Ebonnee Nelson: When I was on my natural hair journey, I was told that you can’t apply any heat to your hair. When I took that advice my hair got so matted and tangled up. 7 years after going natural, I started blow drying my hair again and I haven’t had problems with matting and tangles. I’ve been blow drying my hair ever since. That’s the only way for me to stop my hair from matting up and I have BSL length hair so blow drying has worked wonders for me.

Tracy Jackson Jackson: I only blow dry after I wash my hair every two weeks. It really helps and I have no damage due to using a good heat protectant. I will stop when I get a steamer.

Sheree White: As long as heat protectant is used before blow drying, the hair will not become damaged.

Ashantee Cowlay: Fight against texture ? Wow can't believe you said that. That's not being a natural hairstylist

Lady Magic: Facts ❣️ I pull out more hair and my scalp is more irritated while styling just working against strands that want to recoil and not up. It saves time. I think it's worth it especially if you do protective styles.

Peaceful One: Let me just say this to all my naturals. All of hair is different, thus it will respond to techniques diffently. And requiring different methods to manage it healthy.

Maggie E: With your technique I would be surprised if any heat damage occurred at all. You are keeping the air moving so there are no hot spots and using gentle tension to stretch the hair instead of using a lot of heat. Pretty smart! I’m definitely going to try this instead of using a brush and heavy heat.

ada's aura: I just started incorporating a blow dry to my hair care and it really does ease for styling and single strand nots. I miss my curls sometimes but this has been the better choice for me in the long run

CookieCre: I think different things work for different people. Blow drying my hair is good for me because I have a dandruff problem which gets worse when my hair is left wet, so air drying is not an option for me. I can still style my hair whether its dry or wet. I prefer blow drying my hair though to avoid getting sick. Thank you for this lovely video.

NOLA Downtown: I have a blad head, but when you said you're from NOLA, I said, "Let me support you by subscribing. My daughter has natural hair.

B Ann💕💕: I blow dry most of my clients. The hair breaks off when too much heat is applied and a lot of women don't use A HEAT PROTECTANT on their hair

Sabrina Burnell: I agree. I have natural hair and my hair grows wonderfully with that process

Eric T: I wish people would get over this blow drying hair issue. Heat is great!

Shawnie Brown: Been blow drying my hair and setting my rod sets with heat and a cool shot. It’s the only way I have retained length. It’s easier and I have no heat damage or damage ends. Heat does not damage natural curl/coils. It’s how you handle that heat that’s important. ❤love the video and love from a Nola girl to another.

Bath Rack Essentials: "fight against texture" ️️

Samira J.: I’ve definitely noticed fewer single strand knots since I started blow drying my hair more often.I now consider blow drying natural hair to be a sort of cheat code to easier maintenance and length retention. I usually use my revair to start getting a good stretch then I follow up with a boar/nylon brush by spornette and a traditional dryer to further smooth. Works great for me

Lisa Best: Beautiful hair!!!

Exotic Daisy: Moisture is key to all hair! It’s simple! Keep your hair moist! The dryness is what causes it to become brittle an break! You blow dry allot that allot of trimming over time! You actually shouldn’t have to trim your ends but twice a yr if natural an want to retain length! You also shouldn’t wear silk presses allot of natural is your goal for length retention! Otherwise do what she’s doing which isn’t anything wrong at all it’s just more ways than one to skin a horse! You can also dry your hair with cool air instead of hot! Which helps lock in leave in conditioners an helps avoid the heat damage! If you have grade A hot irons that should be the only heat needed! But patients comes with that as well! But may the marathon continue!

Diana Prince: I blow dry my hair too thank you for this.❤

Ok: Don’t give, you will get it, Gods timing is always right on time

Sharron Loves Yah: My hairstylist always blow dry my hair.

S J: Blow dry my hair on low heat and child my hair was damaged.

Dorothy Watts: I want me a Air dryer. Those are cool, easy and don't damage my hair. But right now Blow drying is good.

V M: I been blow drying my 4C strands after washing for years. Even before I got the Dyson, never had any issues. When I cornrow it’s not to tight when the hair is stretched.

ShoCa: This did nothing to dispell that blow drying is damaging to natural hair. .

Ladi London: These new brushes is a whole game changer for me… I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BRUSHING THRU MY HAIR IN IT’T NATURAL STATE, IT AMAZES ME EVERY TIME♥️
