Hi everyone.this margaret manning was 60 and me. This is the place where women over 60 come to be inspired. My guest today is Denise macadam with over 40 years experience. She is one of the top hairdressers in the UK. She has been working her magic with royalty and celebrities and just has incredible experience in this field. Denise has worked with some of the most famous photographers in the world. She has a royal warrant, which means that she can work with the royal family and has done their hair in various situations, and I'm just so thrilled to have you here. Denise welcome, yeah lovely to join. You actually thank you. Well, you know we have a community of women 60 and me and we one of the things that's on a lot of people's minds is hair and there's really no one that I can think of who is more experienced, and you know credible in this area. You'Ve done you've really done some incredible things. Tell me what first well, we always start tell me a couple of highlights of your career. So far I mean I name some people you work with, but tell me it tell us a bit more tell us since I suppose, actually for me, the biggest highlight would be styling Grace Kelly's here. Of course she was Princess. Grace of Monaco. I didn't realize she was Grace Kelly, the the film star, that's funny. I had no recollection, so that was a real honour and then I think always when you work through a family. My first world tour. I was 21 and you know just being on the Queen's flight, let alone doing your hair and Tiaras was you know incredible, and then you know you jump from that, and the next senior you'll be you be in the desert somewhere doing a big shoots for Conde, Nast for Brides magazine vogue, you find yourself on a camel trying to put it with girls here or your beer back horse riding to get to the girl to do the here. Cuz she she's over there. You know you can be you're gon na, be on a boat balancing and here dressing you, whatever modulus in the most remote position or even if it's movies, there's a hairdresser there doing the hair. So you do learn expertise, and you know that say you learned in bujji is a different deer. These a nudey just as well, and also from your dressing working in the sound that every day is a new client, so yeah some very inspiring people. I think from lending liza minnelli, my tights, actually my stocking my panty hole. I think you should write a book on this. Denisa means incredible stories, but I think what's really important is that hair is probably one of the most important things to a lot of women and you, if you trust someone like you with your hair and it says a lot. So I'm really happy that you had that experience, because in our community we have amazing women, they're, not celebrities, but they're, wonderful people and trying to make decisions about aging and what we do with hair. As we get older, and one of the things I'd like to talked about today, is something lots of women ask questions about, and that is, and I join the club is thinning hair. I used to have really thick long hair and it's just changed so much give us some thoughts on what women well. First of all, why does hair thin as you get older? What can we do to make it a little more um? I don't see I'm afraid set, and obviously I do celebrity just like, because when you work you know with everybody is special when I consult with them, because, yes, it's important that you know they leave feeling great and that you're happy with how you've made them feel. But as you get older and I'm there by the way, my years, they know when I blow dry and I was kind of a different head of hear about you almost have to what you could do before you have to kind of eh acute yourselves. So your hair does get thinner as you get older. You somebody who's good, every thick here when they're young, which is an absolute nightmare. We have two clients. I'Ve had a long time here, but the ticket out of here and all of a sudden there, here's fabulous to work with because it has naturally got a bit thinner. So your hair goes from three layers to two layers, so it's already thinned down itself and then you know that the white here is is coarser, because the cuticle is a little bit more spiky. So this course, or which is great, you mean we knock a bit, but it's good because it makes the here we have got a little bit thicker but thinning here. You know, as you menopause and things at that you're here does not you gets and I knew what you cannotice little bit like when you have child. Rather you get postpartum hair loss. I see you have a little dog in the background in this job. I know we'll keep going, it's totally good girl. I had a woman once I was interviewing whose cat kept jumping up on her lap, and I think the cat was more of a star of the video than we were, but just ball and the doorbell going yeah. No, it's no problem uh mr. Denny here is than their mouse. She was starting to promote it. Sorry, no! No! It'S! Okay! Oh my god! I'Ll live in keep growing Lena, just uh get out the disaster for 8:00 and we'll just keep going. That was foul mean sending stuff okay also, I just I've left the camera going. So let me just go back and just say just something like as a bridging thing, so we can keep going because I think okay right so yeah, so thinning hair is a natural part of Aging and hormones. Menopause create this effect where you're basically got to, like you said two strands of hair instead of three. So it's not it's not magic, it's just nature, and so what do? What do we do? Can you give us some thoughts on shampoos or conditioners, or just how to treat the hair to protect? It, um well think about your hair and think about your bones as well, because, if you're, here's kind of being quite thin, you were to think about your bones. So I actually feel I really think this is a time where you do need to supplement, and it's not just from a placebo effect, because there is, you know, complete utter, a scientific evidence that they do help and I'm a real advocate for a bitter skull, which Is the thing is absolutely fantastic supplement, so she bit a scale professional, that's going to salan to get it. It'S only a pill you take. Excuse me, sir, is the vitamin A supplement so and it says that it works after three months, but really truly. I think you really start to see the effects after six months equally emerging. You know imaging I've heard of em again. I'Ve ever tried it in an emblem imaging over here in neo supplement. That'S equally varied, but I think vivir scowl for me is an absolutely brilliant product. So that's no, not everybody wants to take a supplement. So therefore, if you're not taking a supplement, you want to tea, you know by teens. You want to get the right vitamins into your body right oils, the right, Omega threes, the right antioxidants, you know, and if you can't take that with food, that's when it's good to have a supplement and when you're thinking about your hair. Think about your bones as well, because that will maybe boost you on to do it yeah, but I have to say the results I see with Vivid scar are fantastic. Now these are a pills you can get across the counter: they're not prescription at least not there. I version okay, not prescription if your hair loss or if you get here, loss which is very different to thinning here and that's when again, vivir sells great product. That'S when I would be going to see a psychologist, dermatologist, that's a different problem and that's you know. It'S quite evident that women today there's a lot more what they call meal pattern, baldness happening mm-hmm, which is by browsing alopecia, but that isn't something just to do with aging. That'S just something that unfortunate is something. Yes, don't think! That'S going to happen to you as you get older, but the hair does get thinner. It gets. You might get a slight notice. The hairline get slightly thinner, it's a great time to have a fringe, because that makes the hair feel thicker. It'S a great time to bring so if you've never had a fringe in your life, it's a great time to maybe bring in a soft fringe or are soft in the front a little bit just to make it feel thicker. You know chunkier layers, leaning a bit more just making it feel thicker all over okay, but I'm some great shampoos as well. I mean they're, not shampoos and things are not making your hair grow, but the the volume shampoos know actually attach themselves to the cuticle so make the hair feel all over thicker yeah, which is great and then again with conditioner people. Think if their hairs release in Google, lank and whatever without the conditioner, no conditioner, you definitely want to use. But I'm great. But the other thing that's great with if your hair feels very thin and you want to put it up or something is - is hair extensions and I'm not talking the ones that you go and put in the hair dry. I'M talking about a little clip in ones and they're super observe, you've got a bulb and if you hit your bulbs, normally you get a big night out. You may put a false eyelash on so put in a year extension round here and thick and that's all marked out a little bit. You enjoy them, they're, great fun, they're, absolutely brilliant fun and, if I add a client the other day who was going to last night at the Brits and day is that a bit two sorries at regional turmoil. Brits is fine because Brittany, Americans, whether I think did the British Academy Awards sort of no be sued. British theater yeah, no, their songs, the music oppressed other the music's, those like anyway and events I mean like Justin Bieber, and all that long. I know those kind. It'S you know if your husband's in the music business, our house is a big man in the music business, gentle looking rate, Oh gorgeous, using stars and and all these fabulous people and that's when you can feel insecure as you get older and that's when you're here, You spend it fortunes in this dress and you dress that's good and while you're trying to dress oh and you'll, see to the lead in the shop, but when my hair's done you know, but then that's when the panic happens. Oh my god. What am I going to do my ear so here intentions? I'Ve! Never I mean I've thought about that, but that's a great suggestion, so bad yeah so go back to just health in general, because I we caught you have made this comment before when we were talking that for a thin, thinning hair and just your your have your Aging, hair in general, having a consciousness of good food for your body, is going to equate to good health for your hair that, whatever you do, if you exercise you know, gets the blood flowing absolutely, and I should practice what I preach. But exercise is absolutely brilliant, because blood floor is vital, absolutely vital and with exercise you boost the blood right right. You boost that your heart rate goes up. The heart rate goes up the blood to go around the body as blood in your head. Get it yourself. Yeah, I mean it's great, there's a new evidence low and it's still in research and fact the traps that are working on them are our top flabbily, just like being about and they're actually no reason to measure the amount of hair that goes into the follicle. So they can see that here going into the follicle for here and the strength of the erector pili muscle. This supports the hair. So there's new evidence and think people like bitter skull and the great hair supplements are out. There are using this evidence, so it increases flat your help to the blood flow and bit right eating the right foods exercising you know, we say thirty minutes of good exercise is like your voice, your girl, women. If you look at them often, you know they work great here. Yoga is a great thing, so exercise again is just well-being. If you, if you feel good in that your blood flow, is good. Your skin, your hair, and also you know, don't you here's a great barometer, actually the best barometer to the health of your body. I can I really considered to be true and wonder, was at my hips a hairdressers having my hair cut last time he mentioned to me that my hair was, would he call it splitting? You know blacking breaking a lot and I think a lot of that is actually down to you know the fact that I I like you, I'm not exercising as much as I should. You know. I have my diet. I'Ve improved, but I think it's just my general I've been working long hours, not getting enough sleep yeah. So it's just. I think that's a really serious issue. The right way do i do. What do you calm your conditioners through? No, i'm i - and i just learned that today is just that. You know thing you know, get your Denman DC just a moment's. You don't make sure that you do this so you're here get that at the way it's staged when you're in the shower and then rinse. It'S really important, because it means that when you take the total off your hear, the call mobility is much and therefore you're. Not splitting the hair, so then your wars going sin you're, making it you're, making it slightly thinner yeah. So you want to keep it feeling thick, but you know thin here. Is it another thing that can make the hair slightly thinner or feels like it's breaking? Is a great old tip and the Hollywood actress is old. That is sleep on silk. Absolutely because that stops you thinning here. If your ears got thinner, it's agile. So if you can sleep on a silk, pillow slipper just go and buy a piece of silk a meter of silk. It will actually stop any breakage, because when you toss some turn on the pillow, you know, although they say the thread counts. Three hundred five hundred a thousand - it's still friction on the hair, because silk doesn't friction, you listen to it. Denise most women have got silk scarves. Most women have maybe purchased one really lovely silk scarf in their life and it's sitting in a drawer somewhere with the other 30 silk scarves. Just pull yes going on and that's going soft. It put it on your pillowcase and sleep on silk. It'S a great idea. Yeah, I think I would still visit me - oh you're funny. Actually it's actually not only is it good for your this is so pillage it. You get this plenty companies out there that sell, silk, pillow slips and not only is a great fear here. It'S fabulous for your face as well. Okay, so I've got one one. This is great, so I've got one more question on thinning hair and then we can stop because we're doing a series of videos here by the way folks and we're trying to you - know, cover topics that are of interest to use, so thinning hair will stay with. For a bit um, okay, colouring and how much does coloring affect the the thickness of your hair? I mean, if you're using you know, either at home or at a hair salon. The choice is, you know with ammonia without ammonia? Is there any suggestion or recommendation that you'd make well well coloring here is um actually makes your hair feel thicker. It makes it feel thicker yeah, absolutely because it spells the cutable slightly. Okay, rough, isn't it it actually makes it feel thicker much thicker in fact, divided. Very fine here and I didn't want to color my hair. I would color my hair exactly the same color as I had as I was just for just to give that extra thickness. Well, so is actually color is actually especially a highlight because it slightly swells at the cuticle. So again it's not really damaged it too much as long as it's done properly. If you've got a real problem with your thinning here or as I said, an alopecia style-related thing and it has to be low light, you don't want color that goes to the scalp and penetrates because there's any damage in miracles, okay, low light highlights things agree absent Me, okay, in any distinction between ammonia versus non ammonia. I know that there's a lot of new products with no ammonia they're out there there. I know they're harder to get out of your hair that. Why - and I think I know, I can't see that I'm in our got our got totally organic girl or not an organic girl. I feel because I just feel that in medical science you have to research mm-hmm, I think, as the products been well researched, then it's a great product, but I also feel that if it's applied properly and done properly, so there's a lot of controversy with you know: Tal, s's and SLS's, and what's this and what's that because it's a little bit like sugar when they take the sugar out they put another thing in there. This could be is the sugar. So you know I'm not great on the science, but I'm I'm not sure. I think if I think, when you buy a product, I think it's much more about it being substantively sourced mm-hmm. Yes, the packaging has been sustainably stored and everything that, but you know sometimes we need chemicals to make things work properly and work the best so um. You know it's interesting actually, because, if you I'd be more I'd, be thinking that I'd rather it went down my drain well and didn't clog up. My paint to the black sludge and that to me would be really important. So it's a it's a hard one versus its yeah, I'm a personally! If you're staying with well like gold, well L'Oreal, I think you're in safe hands, yeah, that's the honest yeah! Now, that's really great. Of course. You'Ve got a hairdresser that you, you trusted, someone you go to see and you can always ask them for their opinions and make your own choices, but Denise. This has been really really helpful. I have learned two or three things today already that I'm going to have a comb conditioner through my hair and how to basically take care of this thinning hair and I'm, like we've, said before, embrace it. It'S you yeah, absolutely, thank you so much for being here. Denisa and best of luck with everything. Thank you again. You

Nola A: Great conversation, covered a lot of my concerns regarding my aging hair. I really liked Denise's take on hair color. BTW Margaret, I haven't been applying conditioner correctly either! Thanks for both your time and energy ladies! '

kayekog: Thank you for posting that after pulling together the interview process. I could understand Viviscal but I wasn't sure about "Imoden." It was interesting to hear that volumizing makes the hair thicker and that whatever is good for your bones will help your hair, also. Off on my search now to find out about the other product she recommended.

Susan Hull: Can't wait to try those great tips! Thanks, Margaret, for having such an expert give us hair advice.

Theresa Bruntom: I think coloring hair regularly damages and causes hair loss. I started going every three months for coloring instead of once a month and my hair started get thicker. Like a dummy I started going once a month and my hair started shedding like crazy again. Lesson learned.

PJL: Hi Margaret~Just found your channel and had to tell you that I think you're such a lovely lady, and enjoy your videos. While I am not 60 yet, my thin hair has already become thinnner; seemingly overnight, so this topic was near and dear to my heart. Please keep the great content coming!

Phantomphydla Pirdue: Thank you! I am struggling over my hair. Feel ashamed to let anyone see it.

kanani elaine: I buzz my own hair, close to my head. My hair (at 71), continues to be thick, and grows fast. It is easy for me to take care of, with my Neuropathy, which causes severe pain and burning in my hands, as well as dropping things.. (I'm not diabetic). I get a lot of complements on my hair. I wear big earrings, with my buzz!

Diane Balch: I just read that we must get our vitamin D from supplements and the sun. Vitamin D is important for our hair's health.

Viola T: My hair has always been thin. I wear wigs and love them

Daniel Loftus: Question.. my mother is 66 going grey thinning damaged hair from 40 years of dye... She hides it with obviously fake wigs... She's very self conscious.. any tips I can give her so she can go wigless and still feel confident and beautiful??

Gail Davis: It's absolutely true exercise lifting weights at lest 3 days a week will absolutely grow your hair where you don't have hair on your head and thicken what you do have.

Pepprina Malt: Thank you Margaret for your lovely manner when interviewing. Love your videos. Thanks again from Australia.

Roxanna Brollier: so helpful! thanks for sharing.

Cynthia Williams: I need help with my hair. It is extra fine, no matter what style I use, it always lays flat. It is thin (no bald spots though, thank goodness). No matter what product I have tried, it is constant staticy. I have tried argon oils, I have tried hair moose, hair gel, but every time I brush or even comb it, the static is awful. Hair spray works for a little while, but not all day. I don't wash it every day. I wash it maybe every 3 days, and I still have an issue with too much static. I cannot wear hair pins, they just fall out, same with hair combs. I don't color my hair, and I don't want to. I want my grey/white to just come naturally. I am also trying to grow my hair, I like it long rather then short. Short hair (even the textured bobs just makes my hair cling to my head), and I don't like pixies on me. What can I do to stop the static in my hair?

Diedra Payne: Hello...I am from the U.S. AND WAS BLESSED TO COME ACROSS YOUR CHANNEL. My hair was always full and beautiful but at 67 it has , stumbled, fallen and run away! I want to cry. I am on so many medications that perhaps that is the problem. I loved your sit down with your guest. You are both so charming & lovely and this was very educational so I subscribed !

lucie408: Great advice.THKS. I have something to share, Works for me and the result is immediate. Eat Leafy Green Vegetables eg lettuce daily. There is a chemical element in them that is essential for healthy hair growth. The result is almost immediate.

Melissa Culpepper: Hi! I'm new to your channel. How do you style your hair while cleaning house and such, to look stylish and "cute?"

Melissa Culpepper: One more question: Is it better to gently wear your hair on top of your head while sleeping?

judy conte: When you're naming these products it would be good if you put website on the screen as two where to get them or just put the name of the product on the screen so people can see it.I would also have liked to hear you talk about rogaine and stuff like that for female hair loss. A video on female hair loss especially male pattern baldness Would be great A lot of chemicals are in Products like Rogaine and I'm wondering if you could speak to the dangers of those chemicals in Rogaine like the chemical monoxanol Thank you !!!

Lucy Bond: Do perms cause thinning hair ? I have long hair and noticed only slight thinning until about a year after my perm. Its now half as thick as it was before.

Bernadette Hynes - Cafferkey: I have a silk scarf that I don't wear, never thought of using it like that, as silk pillowcases are expensive

Roseanne King: What about hair toppers? Does anyone use these? I’ve wondered if any kind of wig would make your hair come out more.

Gloria A: What a great video and topic. She’s great.

Jan Palace: Was "tell me some highlights" meant to be a pun!

oldchick: So what what a good mild shampoo and conditioner be for someone with thinning hair?

Chris: I was hoping there would be discussion of shampoo & conditioner suggestions

Pebbles: I disagree about a fringe or better known as "bangs" here where I live. When you cut a fringe it takes the hair from the top of your head and pulls it forward. The hair on the top of my head is very thin, and see thru. If I add bangs I'm going to have an obvious bare spot on the top. Keeping my hair without bangs helps me keep more up on the top right where I need it. I do agree with exercise because I'm heavy sweater during exercise and I believe this increases circulation to the scalp and my hair definately improves with regular work outs.

Fran Ponick: It is ok to edit out interruptions ...

simosc2: Come on...Denise can Not possibly have over 40 years experience...that would make her over 60 years old....no...not that pretty...YOUNG woman...lol

Janet Hill: I wish you won't of rushed your guest I think she would of relayed more important information. Maybe you should have her back and allow more time. Otherwise, it was great!

Colette VanderPark: shampoo with no sulfates

Aunty Linda: If the body doesn't get the protein it needs, the hair and nails will b sacrificed. X

Linda Beebe: Bitter scull, scale , vivid scar? This is what is coming over the captions and I don’t know what she’s saying. Please clarify what she suggested here? Please and thank you. depressed 60 year old with thinning up front.

Godhasblessed: Cannot understand the first name before Amedene

Lizzy Sæthre: This is kind of awkward to watch

Linda Bertram: So sorry. This is a bit boring. I quit watching because it is too long. You are a lovely lady, though and the other videos are nice.

Katherina: Do a google of this argan life products for hair regrowth! Best product ever & I can't believe how quıck it comes. My hair is so healthy, long and thick!
