Hello and welcome to my little space on the internet, so today i'm going to be talking all about zero waste hair care, so in particular shampoo bars and conditioner bars. So i'm going to go through quite a few things in this video, so things like how to find a shampoo bar that works for you how to use it, how to store it. What some of my recommendations are and all that sort of thing, so i'm going to start off by talking about how to find a shampoo bar that works for you. So obviously you would be very, very lucky and very fortunate if you found a shampoo bar that works for you, based on the first one, you try. So obviously everyone has different hair types, different hair, colors, just different skin types, all that sort of thing. So it's just like anything else. There is no one size that fits all, so you will have to experiment a little bit to find what is going to work for you, but something i recommend, if you're new to shampoo and conditioner bars and you're wanting to find one to try. I'D suggest looking at some of the ingredients that are in your current shampoo and conditioners and seeing if you can find same or sort of similar ingredients in a bar that you're looking for so the next thing i'm going to go through is my recommendations, so i Am based in australia, so the shampoo and conditioner bars i use are an australian-based brand and i absolutely love them. You'Ve probably seen me talk about them before over on my instagram, but for me i find they really work. Well, with my hair, i'm someone that has, as you can tell, i have a lot of hair. My hair is quite thick. Naturally, it's quite wavy, obviously it's straight at the moment, but i find this shampoo, and particularly the conditioner bar, really helps to bring out my natural waves without making my hair look ridiculously frizzy, because my hair can go quite frizzy. Sometimes so one i'm going to go through is from the company bar none all their products are 100 cruelty, free vegan, zero waste. They have no palm oil, no plastic packaging, none of that stuff and they can actually just be found in your local woolworth store, which is also really helpful. So this shampoo bar is really like it's really quite large, compared to most shampoo bars, and i find it is actually really affordable for the amount that you get out of it. So one of these bars is equivalent to about two to three bottles of your regular shampoo, and i find these do last me probably i'd, say two to three months, depending how often i use it and then the conditioner bar this one i've had for probably about. I think i've had it for about four months now, so this is not quite as big as when i first got it, but you can still tell that. Obviously it's barely made a dent um. This conditioner bar will probably last me, like seven months, probably say it's equivalent to about three or four conditioner bottles, which is really really good, and, to be honest, one of the things i love best about them is how good they smell. This is one of those times when i wish you could do like a scratch and smell like through a camera. How cool would that be um, but they just they smell amazing. Just take my word for it. I don't know how to explain it. If you want to give it a go, get one, i highly recommend - and the last thing i wanted to mention about bar none is, if you're someone who's thinking about transitioning into a more sustainable hair care routine. They also have shampoo and conditioners in liquid form, but in an aluminium bottle, so it doesn't come in plastic. So if you're someone that's looking to maybe try more natural products, but aren't ready to try the shampoo and conditioner bars. That might be a good way to start and an alternative to that. If you're someone that's overseas, you can also use the plain products. They can sometimes be a little bit more pricey, but they are also really really good. So from what i've heard, there are some places overseas that do have access to the bar none conditioner bars. I do know quite a few people that use these overseas, but i've also had other people say that it can be very, very difficult to find and i don't think i've found anyone. That'S used the shampoo bar from overseas. If you're based in australia, i would recommend giving these ones a go. Obviously it's not going to work for everyone, but i have found that lots of people that try these ones do really like them. So that brings me to the next company that i want to talk about for my overseas viewers and that is the habitat. Botanicals shampoo and conditioner bars all right, so the habitat botanicals products, all their packaging - is 100 biodegradable compostable, 100 natural. It'S homemade, it's vegan! No palm oil, none of that stuff, it's another, really really good sustainable and natural option. So the shampoo bar is this round one here, so most shampoo bars - you usually find in this like circle shape compared to the rectangle of the bar. None - and i do also really like the smell of these ones, they kind of smell. Like i don't know if this will sound weird, i know those fizzy like little lifesavers. You could get like the little lolly lifesavers and the pink ones it kind of smells like one of those, but in more of like a natural nicer sort of scent. I don't know if that makes sense, but anyway, i also find this one. Does work really nicely with my hair? It doesn't make it frizzy or anything like that um. So i do really like that and then the conditioner bar comes in this sort of square shape and again it has a really really nice natural smell to it. Um i find it leaves my hair, really nice and shiny after i use it. It'S really good for detangling, so some conditioner bars i find you put them on, but then your hair is still really really knotty when you come out of the shower. So i find this one is really good for keeping your hair, nice and smooth and again these two products are equivalent to about two or three shampoo and conditioner bottles. I do find a lot of people will say like i don't want to make a switch to shampoo or condition bars, because they're too expensive and i will admit like up front, they are a little bit more costly when you think about how much they actually last. You and what the equivalent would be for normal, shampoo and conditioner bottled products. It'S actually really really cheap and really affordable. So that is something else to consider so the last product that i wanted to mention. I don't have one on me anymore: i'll leave a photo on the screen of what it looks like. This is just a shampoo bar. It'S the jr leggett's tea tree and hemp shampoo bar. I did also really like this one. It worked really well for my hair. It didn't leave my hair knotty or tangled, and i found it washed out really nicely. I haven't tried any conditioner bars from that brand or if they have any, i'm not really sure, and personally i don't like their other shampoo bars. I just really like the tea tree and hemp one. It'S just another option. If you are looking for something else to try now. The next thing i'm going to go over is how to use a shampoo bar. So, firstly, you want to make sure your hair is thoroughly wet, so you want to rinse it really really well before you start putting the bar on, obviously, because the shampoo and conditioner bars they are in a very condensed form so that oils have been condensed down. That'S what makes it in a solid form instead of liquid, so you want to make sure that you're giving it enough liquid for it to really be able to start lathering onto your scalp and onto your hair. So first thing i do. I wet my hair thoroughly. Then i will get the shampoo bar i'll run it under the water and just kind of move it between my hands for a little while it's for it to start foaming up a little bit and then i start to lather it onto my head. So i'll start at the top of my head and kind of go along the sides and then work my way down, and then i will sort of just rub it through the ends of my hair, after i've done that i'll kind of just massage it into my Scalp and make sure it really lathers all the way through and then, after that, you want to make sure that you are rinsing it out really thoroughly as well. So i do get quite. A lot of people say that when they're putting the shampoo and conditioner bars on it feels really nice, but then afterwards they get. This sort of sticky residue build up left afterwards, usually that's just because they haven't rinsed out all of the shampoo and the conditioner from their hair. So you want to make sure, because they are very condensed products. You want to start breaking up and rinsing off all those condensed oils as well so same thing with conditioner bars, i'll run it under the water. Rub it through my hands a little bit just to get it to start lathering, and then i usually just put it on the end parts of my hair and kind of just run. My fingers, through my hair until it feels like it's all the way through and then i will rinse it off. I do find the conditioner bars a little does go a long way, so you don't need to put a holder on you. Don'T need to stand there rubbing the conditioner bar into your hair, for like five minutes. It doesn't need that much. So you only need to put on a little bit because, like i said before, they are very compact bars. They have a lot of condensed oils in them, so you just want to be mindful that you're not using more than you actually need to, because that is also another reason why some people do get that yucky sort of build up afterwards is because they're putting too Much on and then they can't rinse all of that off. I want to talk about the transitionary period. I feel like i'm on a bit of a broken record, but the shampoo and the conditioner bars they are very, very condensed. So when you are transitioning from your regular liquid products to a shampoo bar, your hair can go through a transitionary period. It doesn't really know what you're doing, and that can also be the reason why some people tend to say like. Oh, my hair goes really really greasy one day and then it's really dry. The next and i will leave a link to an article below that does explain the whole transitionary period in really good detail. If you want to check that one out, but if you are just starting out trying shampoo and conditioner bars stick at it for a while. Try a few different products, but just keep in mind that your hair does need that time to adjust and to kind of figure out what you're doing to it. So just be mindful of that. Don'T go blaming the shampoo or conditioner bath straight away. If you have only just transitioned, it could just be your hair, trying to figure out what you're doing to it and getting used to the different form of the product that you're using. I personally didn't experience this myself, but i think that's because i didn't just go kind of completely cold turkey from like your commercial chemical based products straight into a shampoo and conditioner bar. So i kind of went from like your normal commercial products to your more natural products, still in plastic bottles and then to the shampoo and conditioner bars. So i think, because i kind of transitioned down to the shampoo and conditioner bars. That'S why i didn't go through that, but again that could just be personal to me and everyone's different. So it's just something to consider now. The next thing i want to go through is dyed hair. So personally, my hair is not dyed at the moment. I have dyed it in the past and it is also something my sister used to say to me because she she doesn't anymore, but she used to have blonde hair and something she would say to me was. I can't change to shampoo and conditioner bars because i have blonde hair like it won't work for me. But i have spoken to some people who have found shampoo and conditioner bars that are designed for blonde hair or dyed hair, which do work. Fine - and i have also found when i did have my hair dyed - i was still using shampoo and conditioner bars and they were fine. So personally i would say it's fine, but again it depends what's going to work for you, try it out if you want to try just using a shampoo or conditioner bar on just a small strand of your hair after it's dyed and see if it makes any Noticeable differences before you try using it on your whole head just to make sure it doesn't cause any changes or anything like that. That'S something to consider, and the last thing i want to go through just quickly is storage. So for me, i just keep my shampoo and conditioner bars in little containers like this. I either have these square ones, or i also have this more round one. This one has like a soap holder in the bottom of it, because this is the one that i use more regularly. These are just metal tins from lush. Super super cheap super easy. So that's how i store mine. So the one thing you want to be mindful of when you are storing the shampoo and conditioner bars when you're in the shower, if your shower caddy, like the thing that you put your shower products on, does get wet while you're in the shower. You want to make sure that your shampoo and conditioner bars aren't being left under the like in the firing line, because once they do get wet, that's when they start lathering and they start doing their thing. So you want to make sure they're, not always under water, because then you'll just be losing product that you could be using yourself. So if you're someone that's lucky enough that they can keep their products in the shower and the water doesn't hit it, then that's perfect, but if not for me personally, i just take this container out of the shower once i'm finished and i just put a little Step on my bathtub that i just leave it on when i'm not in the shower, that's all i have for you guys today. I hope you found this useful and kind of learnt something or i inspired you to kind of go and try something new or make that leap if you've been wondering about changing to a shampoo or conditioner bath. So i'd love to know if you do try any of these products, let me know you can either tell me in the comments below or jump over and message me on instagram, if you did like this video make sure to give it a thumbs up and hit The subscribe, so you can see my future uploads. I hope everyone is well and looking after themselves and i will catch you guys in my next video

Sophia Grace: I am currently transitioning into a zero waste / low waste lifestyle and this video was helpful. There are thousands of shampoos and conditioners in plastic bottles to choose from but not many bars or other zero waste options. I wish so badly that high quality salon brands would come out with condensed bar versions of their current formulas.

T M: I've understood that the "transitionary period" only applies to shampoo bars made with soap. But with those you are also recommended to use vinegar because of the pH. I personally wouldn't use them anyway. I prefer a "shampoo based" bar shampoo.

Dorothy Lisbon: I would recommend you look for fast hair growth fortified shampoo.
