A leave in spray is essentially a water based conditioner that provides intense hydration and moisturization to your hair. A leave in is not the same as a conditioner, due to its high water content it penetrates your hair much more easily than conditioners! And that's why its a great styling tool to quickly refresh and pump your hair full of moisture!

These are super simple to make and unlike adding water to a conditioner which is a popular method of making leave-ins - this is a completely stable formula, meaning that you don't need to shake it up or keep it in the fridge, and it will last for months instead of days!

#DIYLeaveInConditionerSpray #NaturalLeaveInConditionerSpray #LeaveInConditionerSprayForNaturalHair

Hi guys and welcome to whole lilies, i'm elise and today we're making a leave-in conditioning spray that is perfect for the summertime winter time. You know what there is never a time when you don't need moisturized hair. So a leave-in spray is essentially just a water-based conditioner that provides intense, hydration and moisture to your hair. Its high water content is actually able to penetrate your hair shafts a lot faster than traditional conditioners and that's what makes them such great styling tools, especially when you need that little extra kick of moisture or, if you're, looking to refresh your hair. So here's how to make your own totally customizable leave-in conditioning spray. As always, let's start by measuring out our ingredients, the base of our conditioning spray is water. I'M using homemade rose and hibiscus water, that's infused with botanical benefits, but you can also use regular rose, water or just plain distilled water. The glycerin attracts moisture to your hair as a humectant, while shea butter penetrates your hair strands for lasting moisturization measure out emulsifying wax to ensure that our oil and water ingredients mix together and finally jojoba oil to seal soap. Water is a key ingredient to making a good leave-in conditioning spray, but you don't need to stick to this plain water. In fact, you can substitute this for aloe vera juice or even rose water, and in this recipe i'm actually using a rose and hibiscus floral water. That i've made rose water has a number of benefits for your hair and skin. It has a similar ph level to your hair, making it great for reducing frizz but also adding shine. This is actually a great ingredient to use on natural hair's, tight, curls and coils, but the hibiscus is the real star. Hibiscus flower is used widely across several cultures to promote healthy hair growth, but it also prevents shedding split ends and breakage floral waters are super easy to make and they're a great ingredient to boost your natural hair and skin care products check out the link above to Watch my tutorial, showing you how to make your own floral waters to a heat proof container, pour the glycerin into the floral water, even without using floral waters. This leave-in spray is deeply moisturizing and is an instant hydration boost for dry hair to the shea butter feel free to use any other butter that you prefer add the emulsifying wax and jojoba oil we'll need to heat the water and all soluble ingredients separately over a Low gentle heat melt, the shea butter wax and oil, along with heating up the water and glycerin once completely melted, pour the water mix into the oils, we'll need to add additional ingredients to whisk this, so it might be necessary to transfer to a large heat proof Bowl give the bowl a few minutes to warm up before adding in the melted ingredients. So this leave-in spray contains both oil and water and those are two ingredients that don't like to mix, but because we added that emulsifying wax. That'S what creates a stable formula that won't separate over time, so you can rest assured that with each and every spray, you're going to get equal amounts of that rose and hibiscus water, as well as the jojoba oil and that shea butter. So i used to just follow the popular method of adding water, to a pre-existing conditioner to make a leave-in spray and honestly it does work pretty well. What i didn't realize is that by adding in the water, not only am i destabilizing the conditioner, which is why you always need to shake it up before you use it, but you're actually introducing the potential for mold and bacteria to grow, because you're not adding a Preservative mold bacteria fungi are all just as harmful to your hair as dryness and that's why, when you make a leave-in conditioning spray from scratch, you can be certain that you've added in all the right ingredients. You'Ve got your emulsifier, your preservative, your antioxidant, and you know that this is something that is completely safe to use on your hair. Once your mixture has cooled slightly use either an immersion blender or electric whisk to mix our leave-in until emulsion is formed. Once the foam has decided, we can move on to adding our preservative, antioxidant and fragrance as your preservative of choice, i'm using a natural preservative at four percent of my total conditioning spray, but follow your respective guidelines. Vitamin e oil can add shine, improve scalp circulation as well as working as an antioxidant to prolong the life of the oils in our conditioning spray fragrance is optional and if you're using a floral water, you'll even will have a natural scent, but for more fragrance you Can add essential oils, i'm using a couple drops of geranium and grapefruit essential oils whisk for a final time to ensure that all the oils are evenly incorporated. So leave-in conditioners are a staple of most natural hair regimes, but leave-in sprays. You might be thinking this is way too light. It'S not going to be moisturizing enough. That is why it's important to make your own leave-in conditioning spray, because you can tweak it to exactly what you need now it's true. This recipe is 88 water, but that doesn't make it less moisturizing. It just means that it serves a different function to traditional conditioners. The whole point of a leave-in spray is that it needs to have a lot of water because it hydrates your hair, but the other 12 of this recipe is pure moisturizing agents. The combined effects of the shea butter and the jojoba oil are able to really coat each strand, making sure that all of that water that we packed into this leave-in spray stays sealed within each strand of hair, not to mention the jojoba oil provides enough slip. So you can easily spread it throughout your hair. In fact, i've formulated the sleeving spray to have as much moisturizing power as a lotion or a cream, and that's why it's so important to make your own products, because you can really make sure that it's nothing but quality. If you're struggling to keep your natural hair. Moisturized check out this playlist above that has tutorials on everything from making your own moisturizing hair cream to shampoo to edge control to satin bonnet. It'S all here in this playlist above so definitely check it out and whilst you're there. You might as well subscribe with the notifications bell. So you know, as soon as i release more haircare and skincare tutorials, a spray bottle container with your leave-in conditioning spray to apply spray throughout the strands of your hair and reapply when necessary. I have put this in a spray bottle, but you can just as easily put this in a traditional pump or a squeeze bottle. It'S totally down to personal preference. However, i do find that, if you're out and about having a spray bottle on hand, is really easy to apply this to your hair. Now, even though this is a conditioning spray, it is still a leaving. So you can use this in the traditional way that you use most leave-ins. So if you just wash your hair and it's completely wet, you can use your leave-in as your first styling product and of course, if you do the loc method, then this would be the leave-in that you would use in that instance. But for me where i find that using a leave-in conditioning spray really shines is when my hair is already dry. So, for instance, if i'm noticing that my hair is getting a little dry or i think it needs a refresh, but i don't want to do the whole wash routine all over again. That'S when i reach for the leave-in conditioning spray. Now you could just use a traditional cream or oil, but if your hair is actually dry, they won't really do anything to hydrate it. The only thing that hydrates your hair is water. So having a product that is majority water-based makes a huge difference when it comes to dealing with hair, that's already dry, so i would spritz my hair with the leave-in conditioning spray to make sure it's hydrated first and then, depending on whether or not i think that My hair needs it. I might use an oil or a traditional moisturizing cream and, of course, this works great as a refresher spray, especially if your hair is kind of reaching the end of its life cycle, and you really just kind of want to give it that extra boost, without going Through all the trouble of doing a wash and go or perhaps in the morning, if you just want to refresh your curls, this will work excellent for that. This leave-in conditioning spray has been the secret sauce in keeping my hair, both manageable and moisturized, especially as we start approaching these warmer months, and i think it will be a great addition to any natural hair care routine. I have a bunch more exciting natural hair care and skincare tutorials planned so definitely subscribe to my channel with the notifications bell. So you know as soon as those videos come out, but in the interim, why not check out a few of my playlists linked below thanks for watching check out this playlist? That includes moisturizers, shampoo and edge control for even more natural hair care, diys

WholeElise: The secret weapon in keeping hair hydrated, thick & moisturised especially in the warmer months!

Antisocialist: Thank you for the recipe, I made this yesterday using olive oil and Shea butter, I used BTMS 25 as my emulsifier, it came out creamy yet thin enough to use in a spray bottle, perfect thanks for posting this recipe

ama wolloe: Making your own leave in spray?? Girl You are taking things to the next level!! And i'd like to take a moment to say howw pretty you are❤ you did a great job again!

Fazila Dewani: I made this product with avocado oil instead of jojoba oil.. I must say, I really makes my hair soft n super manageable.. Hope my customers too like it. Thanks so much.!

Ameri: OMG! You have done it again! My hair is very dry. Well, I should say was. This leave in Conditioner is beyond amazing. I agree! Your videos are on a different level. Thank you for showing, teaching and sharing with us. So glad I found your channel!

Светлана Сёмочкина: Hello, Ellise, thank you for your inspirational ideas!! I love the simplicity of your recipes, it's a huge advantage not only for lotionmakers but for our skin as well. However, my emultion in this recipe failed twice with different emulsifiers the second time, yesterday I did it with Montanov68, this emulsifier works with little amount of oils . I put less shea butter , the whole amount of fats was 7 and I put very little amout of coconut milk for stabilizing the emultion, in the morning it seperated. The idea is great, but I don't know how to make it workable.

Lizzy Loves: Hello Elise. I love your videos. What scares me most in my natural skin care and hopefully one day hair care line are the preservatives. Could you make a video or something to help guide us in what to look for in choosing the right preservatives?

Lashonda Mcknight: This is such a great video! I feel like i don’t need to look any further. Im a Braider and want to make my own leave in conditioner for my clients. This video is exactly what I needed. Thank you!

Laura Saunders-Calvert: I was going to ask you to give us a recipe for leave in conditioner but you totally preempted it. You obviously know your audience well. Thank you!!!!

valéry burton: i searched for so long a natural hair woman who do diy and finally!! You're tutorials are amazing, thanks a lot

Serena Brown: Greetings, I love the end result look of this recipe and most of the ingredients used however, I was wondering if this recipe would be just as effective minus the emulsifier and preservative? I'm aware of the potential bacterial growth which is why I usually make my diy's for a 1wk use only.

Jada Bailey: Hi Elise, love the content really informative. Do you think you'll be show us how to make a leave-in hair mousse? Do love using hair mousse but know that many ingredients aren't benefiting my hair.

Leah Sletzion: I love this I'm probably going to try adding gel to this mixture. Have you tried spraying into the hands and then fixing curls vs spraying directly onto the hair? If so, which do you prefer?

The Burns Family: Every video I watch of yours makes me so excited to make my own products! Thank you so much for sharing! Btw you are so beautiful and you have a great sense of style!

Makeda Jardine: Love your DIY videos, I made this for my 3 yrs old son and his hair loves it, is it possible for you make a conditioning spray with coconut milk and the liquid portion? Blessings from Trinidad and Tobago.

AliDu: Oh I just LOVE this!! With my VERY low porosity hair doesn’t do so well with oils but my hair loves glycerin so I may use more glycerin than oil. Or I may just heat it up before using. TIP: For other low-porosity people, Because warm products work better on my low porosity hair, I recently bought a Phillips Avent baby bottle warmer on Amazon for my hair products and I use small travel sized glass pump or spray bottles for warming (got them on Amazon but take the caps off while warming) Just before I get in the shower, I turn it on and it’s heated in 3mins. Just make sure it’s just gently warming not boiling (the high setting boils the water in the warmer). I use it to melt my butters as well. I can even get a 2c mason jar into that warmer for mixing things. Game changer!

Sherri Okere: Hey sis I stumbled across your channel and I'm glad to learn more from you. I make a lot of my own natural hair products and would like to know more about how to preserve without having to put everything in the freezer. Lol.

Caramel Cutie: Hello! I watched several of your videos and I'm excited about making your products, starting with the conditioning spray. I do have a question if you don't mind. My daughters like braids, would you recommend your conditioning spray for that type of style? Also, you didn't specify which emulsifying wax you used, would BTMS 25% Behentrimonium Methosulfate Cetearyl Alcohol Emulsifying Conditioner work for this recipe? I'm trying to use EXACTLY what you used to minimize problems on my end. This is sold on Amazon, would definitely get to me quicker than one coming from overseas, especially with everything backed up. Please excuse the long text, I'm just trying to make sure I make this right for my girls. Thank you.

Lou Simms: Hi Elise, if I want to extend the shelf life to say 1 year do I need a different natural preservative, or do I just need to add more?

kirsty eades: Hi I love all your videos , I wondered if I could ask you a couple of questions I'm new to creating my own products so just figuring out what sort of things are interchangeable, 1 in other videos you have said how honey can be used instead of glycerin, is that the same for this conditioner. 2 can jojoba oil be changed for anything else . Again I love all your videos xxx

Kathleen Harris: This is a great recipe! TFS.

Wayne Gross: Very nice formulation. Easy to make and use. I would sun the shea butter for Murururu butter. I like it's natural silicone feel! Jill

Aerial Lea: Hi, love the idea and I made it straight away. I had a problem though: as soon as it cools down it completely separates from the water and it looks like the formulation broke, I followed the recipe precisely and I can't figure out why this happened, pls help me

Leenat Ahmed: I tried ,it was amazing

Silja Bansriyar: Hi. Thank you for sharing. Is there any other oil I can use in place of jojoba oil? Can I use olive oil?

Veil Break: I love your channel. I found you yesterday. Just wanted to mention 'orange blossom water' as a change to rose water. I get it from the Asian supermarkets ....it's a sweet floral scent, a bit like 'Anais Anaise perfume..sort of) thanks and God bless

S Parker: Thanks for your informative and well done videos. I'm having a hard time finding good spray bottles for my hair products. Do you mind sharing where you got yours?

Ileana Rodríguez: Thanks for sharing the best natural products !! Question, can I use BTMS as an emulsifying wax?

Marrisa Allison: Just what I needed. Thank you!

A D: Hello Elise, new subscriber here really like your tutorials! is this leave-in suitable for children or babies? Thanks

OSoGorgeouso: I just made some an hour ago. Love this mixture. I have to make some Rose and Hibiscus Water. Thank You ✨✨

Cathy Ann Drakes: Wow. I love this Definitely going to try. How do you calculate your ingredients

B Lorraine: I have a question, I made a spray using a water like yours, emulsifying wax, natural preservative, veggie glycerin and Shea butter. My mixture smells good and everything seemed to have blended well except for the Shea butter it separated after I transferred it to the spray bottle. It has remained separated, what can I do to fix that? In your video there didn’t appear to be any Shea butter separation. Your advice would be greatly appreciated loved the video. <3

Alexis Jones: Thank you for this video. What product did you use for the preservative?
