#curlygirlmethod #naturallycurlyhair

In this video i'm going to walk you through a simple easy to follow: curly hair routine for beginners. If you are new to my channel welcome, my name is gina and i make videos all about naturally curly hair and i really try and simplify things. So that way, anyone at any skill level can achieve healthy hair. This routine is going to be using all drugstore products and i'm actually going to be using the products from the not your mother's curl talk line, mainly because i think this is a great starter line for beginners and it works for all hair types. I'M also going to recommend some other favorite drugstore products of mine. If you didn't want to get the curl top line so that way, you have some other options. So let's go ahead and get started with the routine, so i actually prefer to dry detangle my hair. Just to reduce breakage, so i've already detangled when my hair was dry. I have a video all about how to do that. So now, i'm just getting it wet and i do like to further detangle a little bit with some conditioner first. So i'm using the night, your mother's curl talk three in one conditioner. I don't have a lot of tangles left, but i'm just running my fingers through my hair gently. I don't like to go in with shampoo on super tingly hair. It'S just harder to get your scalp clean when you have tangles in the way. So now it's time for shampoo, i'm using the not your mother's curl top curl care shampoo. This is a great lathering shampoo. This is about the amount i like to start off with, and i like to massage that into my scalp. You can add more water if you don't find that it's giving you enough of a lather, just add some more water and then keep scrubbing. This is completely optional, but you can use a shampoo brush like this one from amazon. This has really soft teeth on it and it helps to loosen up any build up on the scalp and exfoliate. Just be very gentle because you don't want to cause any excess shedding. So i'm just going in with a second round of shampoo to make sure my scalp is nice and clean. If you can scrub your scalp and still have a little bit of product build up on your nails, then make sure that you go in with another layer of shampoo to make sure everything is good and clean. And if you'll notice, i really like to focus the shampoo on my scalp. I don't really shampoo the ends of my hair, but once i rinse the shampoo out that shampoo does go over the lengths of my hair and that just helps prevent dryness and breakage on the ends. I also wanted to mention that this is a sulfate free shampoo, but the particular surfactant ingredients that are in the shampoo do have the ability to remove silicone. So, if you're, using this routine as your first wash day and starting the curly girl method - and you want to stop using silicones and start using sulfate free shampoos, this is a great option for that, because it can remove that old, silicone buildup and it's also sulfate Free, so it's not going to be too harsh on your hair and because i like to detangle my hair before i shampoo, my hair actually is pretty detangled right now, so i'm able to run my hands through it. So i just do that very gently just so. I can get out of the shower, then i scrunch my hair to get out the excess water and i'm going to wrap it very, very loosely using my hair repair towel. This towel is not going to cause any breakage or cause any frizz. So now, i'm out of the shower and ready to apply my deep conditioner and the reason i like to get out of the shower to apply. It is because i like to let my deep conditioner set for about 20 minutes and i'm not going to stay in the shower for 20 minutes, so the deep conditioner i'm going to be using is from the night your brothers curl talk line as well. I thought it would be easier just to show the entire line. This is their curl talk deep conditioning, curl mask this. Has superfood oil blends and sunflower seed extract for all hair types? This is a protein free mask, so you cannot overdo it with this mask. It'S just going to give you moisture it's good to do it about. Once a week i like to alternate between a moisturizing mask and a protein mask, here's an example of a protein mask. This is from shea moisture another really great drugstore, affordable brand. This is the jamaican black, castor oil, strengthen and restore treatment mass. So if you are transitioning your hair recovering from heat damage, if you have a lot of breakage and split ends, this is going to be great for that. This has jamaican black, castor oil in it. Shea butter, peppermint apple, cider, vinegar. This might weigh down your hair if you have extremely fine hair, so go easy on it or apply it before your shampoo. If you find that deep conditioners really weigh down your hair, but i'm just going to apply some more water to the lengths of my hair, where it started to dry. So now we're going to go in with the mask. So that's about how much i'm going to use on my entire head. This is great at detangling. So if you weren't able to detangle after your shampoo in the shower, then i would just wait until you get out and detangle with your deep conditioner. If it looks super white on your hair, then make sure you add some more water to your hair. If your hair is too dry when you're applying any type of product, then you don't have enough water in it and you'll see that white residue and also just wet your hands. And yes, i still shed at every step of my hair routine. It'S just the nature of curls our loose hairs get stuck in our hair. They don't fall out as easily as someone with straight hair, so you're, seeing them all come out as you comb through your hair and wash your hair. So once that is fully coated, i'm going to go ahead and clip up my hair. You can leave it like this. If you want - or you can apply a plastic shower cap, it also helps with the heat of your head to trap in that heat, so that the heat can help the deep conditioner penetrate and absorb into your hair strands. You can also use a heated heat cap, so i'm going to set the timer on my phone to about 15 minutes, i'm gon na let this set and then we will come back and rinse it out all right. I'M going to go ahead and take this off and rinse off using warm water, i'm just going to rinse over my tub, i'm obviously not going to get back in the shower. I just went and did my makeup while it was sitting. I love doing my makeup. While my deep conditioner sets and i'm just really careful when i'm leaning my head over the tub to not get my face wet, i have found that warm water will actually help dissolve that conditioner and remove it better. So that will prevent your hair from getting way down or greasy from using a deep conditioner make sure you rinse it out completely and also make sure you get your roots really good when you're rinsing it out, because if you are rinsing out upside down like i Am then sometimes it's hard to get right here at the top section, so make sure you're rinsing that really well with warm water? I will be right back once i finish fencing, so i just wrapped my hair very, very loosely like i just have it around once and lay it like that. The reason i do that is because i like to damp style, and that just means that i don't like to apply my products when my hair is dripping and soaking wet it just dilutes the product. So much you don't get near as much hold. You might get more curl, clumps and ringlets by doing it that way, but i have such low density hair that i need the volume. So it does really help me to apply my products to damp hair. It'S a lot easier too, and it's a lot less messy. My hair still wet, but the roots have been blotted by loosely wrapping. It like this, so my roots are not going to take forever to dry. It cuts down on the dry time so much so you're not going to be diffusing your hair forever. It'S really not good for your hair to just be trying to get it completely dry when it's stopping wet. So that's the main reason why i have done a video comparing damp versus wet styling, and i show you my results after two routines side by side. So you can check out that video, if you're, not sure which method is best for you. So after rinsing out that deep conditioner, my hair feels super soft. It feels like it still has conditioner in it, but it doesn't. I did make sure to rinse it out. Very good if your hair doesn't feel soft after using a deep conditioner, it could be a couple of things, one being that your hair might have build up on it. If you didn't get your hair fully cleaned, when you were washing it, it's just gon na feel sort of gummy and gunky. So if your hair is very dry, then you could go in with a leave-in conditioner. I do have the one from the curl top line. I really like this leave-in conditioner, or you can also use that same three-in-one conditioner, that i already showed you that we used before our shampoo that can be used as a leave-in. I would only use a tiny bit though, and i would apply that to soaking wet hair and then scrunch out the excess water, and that will help give your hair some lasting moisture. But i don't find that i need to use a leave-in if i just use such a moisturizing deep conditioner like that curl talk, one super moisturizing, my hair is super soft and i don't have a ton of wet frizz if you're not sure what wet frizz is Check out the video that i did all about, wet, frizz and you'll see what i'm talking about. But if you are suffering from wet frizz or looks dry and frizzy after rinsing out, your hair then go in with a leave-in conditioner. So now i'm going to go in with the not your mother's curl talk defining cream a cream is really important to provide moisture underneath your gel or your mousse, gel and mousse are products that you use at the last step of your routine. To help give your hair hold and structure and make it last all week, if you don't start off with either a leave-in or a cream, your hair could dry out on next day hair, especially if you live in a very dry climate, make sure you have that Base layer of cream first, this is also going to help create curl clumps and help give you defined curls underneath your gel. So i also wanted to mention that i do sometimes wet down the lengths of my hair if they dry too much in my towel. You don't want to have dry ends and wet roots, or vice versa. You want your hair to be evenly wet. So if you notice, your ends are starting to dry spritz, your hair down with some water and a spray bottle or just wet your hands. Now i'm going in with about that much on the other side and i like to apply my products upright, because that just helps me make sure that my scalp is fully covered. And i don't get any weird areas in the back, because i have low density hair and i do other things to help give myself volume that i will show you in a minute. This is not my all-time favorite cream, because my hair is pretty dry and that sort of tacky texture that it has can be a little bit difficult to work with um. So i did want to give you guys another option if you don't care about getting everything from the same line. This is the shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie. This is a classic, so many people have used this before it normally comes in a big tub, but this is just a little 3.2 ounce bottle of it. It'S easier to use this way a little goes a long way, especially if you have fine hair. You don't want to use too much. My hair is medium to coarse, though so i can get away with using a little bit heavier creams, and i actually need a little bit more moisture sometimes so. For my part, i like to keep it kind of messy that just helps me with volume, and i like to also make sure it kind of goes back right here at the crown and that helps cover my scalp. I also like to pull up like this to help with volume. So now i'm going to take my behavior brush. This is also a styling brush, so it's really great to create defined ringlets. You don't have to do this by any means, but it does really help if you struggle to get defined curls, because it will help give you ringlets. Just look at these results, see how it gives you that nice ribbon, like curl. I'Ve done a video before comparing this brush to the denman brush. Those are two really great defining brushes. I recommend checking that out because, depending on the look you're going for, you might want to use the denman brush versus the behavioral brush, and i pick up flat sections like this just to help with more separation, because i don't want my curls to clump together too Much or else i don't have as much volume, so here's one of my biggest tricks for volume around the crown area just pick up a horizontal section like this, and then i take my brush. I brush it up and away from the scalp. I also take the brush and i twirl it over the rounded edge of the brush like this, to help with curl definition and go straight up that helps cover my scalp then on the sides i usually pick up vertical sections and lift up and away from the Scalp to help with volume, so i don't do my whole head. I just go around and do some pieces around the top because it just helps save time. Okay, if your hair is starting to dry, it just spritz some water. So now i'm going to go in with the night your mother's at curl talk mousse. I usually prefer a gel, but i really don't like the gel as much from this curl talk line. You could try it out if you want to, but it's too sticky and doesn't give me enough hold, so i am going to use the mousse. This is one of my favorite mousse products. This says it has a level two hole, but i actually think it has a strong hold, or maybe i just use a lot of product. This also has humidity protection, so it's going to be great in the summertime or, if you really struggle with frizz and lasting curls, and since i'm trying to give you other drugstore options with each category. This is a gel. I'Ve really been liking lately from dove. This is from their amplified, textures line. This is the shine and moisture finishing gel. You can check out my last drugstore hair routine. I will link it down below where you can see how i use the curl enhancing smoothie with this, and i got the best results in so much volume really like this gel, especially if you have trouble with tangles in your hair. This has a lot of slip to it. It'S very moisturizing and i loved my next day, hair when i use this combination, so i'm just going to scrunch the mousse in. If i were to be using a gel, i would probably rake and smooth that in just like, i did the cream actually before i use the brush and then use the brush to define curls with the cream and the gel in you can also scrunch in your Gel after you define your curls with the brush, whichever way works for you, you just want to make sure you evenly coat it, though, if you end up with any random frizzy patches, it's probably because you missed an area so brushing it through afterwards can really help. With that - and you might be wondering why am i breaking up the curl clumps that i just created, but after i scrunch they actually come back, it does help me get more volume if i just separate a few of them with my hands by raking it through. Before i actually scrunch so when you are applying your products, you want to make sure that you hear that squishy sound in your hair when you're scrunching. That means you have enough water in your hair. So one thing i like to do in the back just to make sure my scalp is completely covered, is i will just sort of rake and shake the curls right there at the roots just to separate any clumps right there, and then i will scrunch. So now i wanted to show you how i like to micro plop, which is just a term. That means you, take your hair repair towel or your cotton t-shirt, and you use that to absorb any excess water that is lingering in your hair. It can also absorb excess product if you think you apply too much and it helps speed up the drying process. Keep in mind, though, that this does usually remove some product and if you're struggling with keeping product in your hair, or you find that your hair just dries frizzy after diffusing, then i would skip this step or what you can do, which is my favorite method, is Scrunch out the excess water and then go in with a second very light layer of your gel or mousse just to tame any areas that got frizzy or that you know are going to end up drying frizzy. Also, this towel is still pretty wet. There'S a lot of water in this towel, which is actually going to help prevent it from absorbing too much product. So here is how my hair looks wet it's already, starting to form a cast. You don't want to wait too long before you go in and diffuse, or else it's going to be hard to get shrinkage. If you're wanting your curls to curl up more make sure you go right in and diffuse now i have a video all about how i like to hover, diffuse and plop diffuse. I will link it for you down below, so you can actually see how i diffuse, but here's the diffuser i'm going to be using. This is the infiniti pro by conair. This is super affordable on amazon. I love it because it doesn't get too hot. Has a really nice diffuser with good teeth, so you can use these to get volume right at your roots, so i'm going to go ahead and diffuse off camera, like i said check out that video i mentioned link down below to see actually how i diffuse - and I will be back once my hair is completely dry, so i'm now finished diffusing my hair, and at this point it feels like it's about 95 percent dry, and that just means that i feel a little bit of dampness in certain areas. I'M just going to let it finish air drying. I usually like to let it sit for a little bit anywhere from just another 10 or 15 minutes. While i go and do other things or even sometimes, i will just leave it like this. This does have that cast in it from the mousse, which is good, because that's what's going to give us some hold so now that my hair is completely dry, my hands are also dry. I don't have any sticky product residue on them. Now i can scrunch and fluff out my hair. If you don't like that, crunchy look and you want more volume. Then this is what you would want to do. If you want your hair to last longer - and you want humidity protection and freeze protection, then i would skip this step as you can see, that gives a lot more volume when you do that, i don't scrunch out all the crunch, but most of it, because i Do want it to look softer and not super hard. A good, gel or mousse will allow you to scrunch it out and it won't lose too much hold and it won't look bad after you scrunch out the crunch, and it will also hold in moisture if the gel or the mousse is not right for you, then It might flake when you scrunch it out or all the product might disappear and it look like you have nothing on your hair. So you want that good balance of strong enough hold, but also that soft look. So here's what the back looks like mousse always tends to give a lot of volume and you get that more separated. Look, whereas gel. Sometimes you can get more clumps and get a more defined look, so that is it for this wash day routine and beginner tutorial. I hope that you found this helpful. I will also link you to a blog post down below, where i'm going to summarize all of the steps. So that way, you have a written, guided instruction that you can follow to help you, when you are starting your curly hair journey and learning how to actually put a routine together. So hopefully you will find that helpful. I will have the link down below for that. As well as links to all the products that i mentioned, the ones that i used today as well as the other ones that i also recommended from the drugstore, so that is it for this video. Please don't forget to subscribe to this channel. If you have not already, i would love to have you join my youtube family and i hope to see you back next week. Bye everyone

Gena Marie: Thanks so much for watching! For a step-by-step guide and all product links, check out the blog post here! https://genamarie.co/2021/01/beginner-curly-hair-routine-using-drugstore-products-cgm-friendly/

Mary: After trying to embrace my curly/wavy hair for a year I finally gave up. I did this last night, and I'm IN LOVE! This method finally worked! Thank you❤

Autistic bookworm: I’ve been using this routine for a few months, and the difference is amazing! My hair has never looked or felt this good.

melanie webster: You've got so much volume & definition!!! Cutting off those damaged ends really helped your hair & I'm LOVING it!!

Jennifer W: I just found this video and want to say THANK YOU! I’ve been trying to embrace my curls and just couldn’t seem to get it right. You explaining the “why” for each step of the products helped so much, and my hair looks amazing!

Krista K: I just washed my hair before the video was posted, I used the deep conditioner, cream, and gel too! I find the gel gives a softer hold than the mousse, I’ve tried both of them and I prefer the way gel looks.

Wendy C: I’m glad you made a video using the NYM’s curl line. I’m loving my Aveda curl creme and have been eyeing the NYM curl line since it’s affordable. I liked the results on your curl pattern and might have to give this a try!

Blanka Bontovics: 1. dry detangle 2. conditioner 3. shampoo (1-2 times) 4. cotton T-shirt/hair repair towel 5. deep conditioner/hair mask (15 minutes) 6. leave-in conditioner 7. defining cream (+curl gel) 8. style with hairbrush (optional) 9. mousse/curl gel 10. cotton T-shirt/hair repair towel 11. defuser 12. air dry and style with hands Make sure to keep your hair wet in between products! :)

Melanie197333: I use this entire line, I love it but I noticed lately that my hair has not been coming out as well as it usually does. I skipped putting in the curl cream, put in Moouse and then put in gel. I got an amazing cast, and then scrunched out most of the crunch and it looked amazing!

Tiffany McNerlin: Such a good video! Your hair looks beautiful. I'm definitely going to try some of these tips on my next wash day

Danielle Colbeck: SO glad I found your channel! I have a feeling my hair is going to thank me for re-educating myself on how to properly care for it as I get older...thank you!

Mary Kandis: Holy crap!! I finally found someone with hair like mine!!! It has always made me so self conscious when watching videos from other curly people because their hair just looks so fricking thick. Thank you so much for posting these videos. Gonna go a binge everything now

Liv Delima: I really liked this video. Really good job on keeping it simple easy to follow. Also appreciate the alternative product options.

Pug in a rug: Thanks Gena! Love your videos. We can’t get ‘not your mothers’ in my country so I will be taking some of your tips and tricks to use with my John Freida dream curls hopefully with same outcome ✌

S Kirton: I found the mousse to be too sticky and too crunchy; it stayed crunchy. I like the gel better because I can de-crunch it when I am done with drying. My hair is fine and thin. Love the Curl Talk set. I’m going to try the mask.

have3kids too: I'm late posting this. I watch a lot of curly hair videos. I have some favorites, but this video is the closest I've seen to how I do my hair. I love it! I appreciate and have tried the different "techniques" if you will. But this is and always has been the easiest way to do my hair. I thought I was weird applying a little extra gel after putting in curl cream and gel and scrunching my hair with a t-shirt. The only thing I do different is waiting for my hair to air dry a little before diffusing. I am going to try it how you did and see if that works. Thanks for the video.

Danni Hutchison: Seriously considering switching to the CGM. I always thought I had straight hair with waves in my under layers but my hair is curly when it is wet (at least until it finishes air drying)

Jessica Cochran: Love this video figured out I have wavy hair about year ago and had no idea how to style it but I did this and never seen my hair better

Abigail Gopher: I really like the Curl Talk mousse, but it makes my day two hair look greasy even after clarifying. I’ve heard that other people experience this a lot too, and my friend told me try foams instead. Hope this helps someone :)

ladyvictorian1: Hi Gena, I have to say thank you so much because your video has given me hope :). I was following other videos about plopping (and putting product on in the shower?!) which gave made my hair look so bizarre on my scalp and it would take 5 HOURS TO DRY! You are absolutely right! I have fine wavy hair, that I've been straightening for the past 28 years and now have decided to embrace the wave! I'm also going to stop coloring my hair and embrace the gray! Love your videos!

MercRN: Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate and teach curly hair care. I really need help with my hair. :)

SnazzyJazzy: Thank you for sharing your techniques. Your hair is so pretty! I'll be trying this method for the next month. Also, can you please let us know what color nail polish you are wearing in this video? Love it! Thanks again and please take care :)

Caryl Castro: Your hair has been looking fantastic since your trim. Your videos are very informative.

Hema Singh: I barely have any good curly hair products here in my country, so just to get started I bought the latest NYM line from the US. So this routine is great for me!!! Thank you!

Laurie Sanchez: I like the mousse because it does hold the curls for at least three days for me and there’s something about it that doesn’t allow to my hair to shrink too much. However, when I put the mousse on my hair it gives it a yucky dry, tangly texture, it’s weird. Any suggestions?

Dozey Mare: Thank you for another invaluable tutorial, your hair look fab

Jenny K: This was so helpful. I can’t wait to watch your other videos and learn this

julissa julissa: Thank you Gena! I also have low density fine curls. What do you recommend for a leave in conditioner and cream styler that don't cause product build up?

Angela Crowder: Hi Gena, I absolutely enjoyed your video! Thank you so much!!

Caroline Myatt: Thanks so much for making these videos, I love watching them and learning new tips for taking care of my hair! Could you maybe do a review of the Maui Moisture products?

HairbySofia: I love all your videos!! I just got the behairful brush and I can’t wait to try it!!

Sharon Cullen Art: I have been watching a ton of your videos after discovering you the other day. You are helping me so much. My hair has become so much less dense over the years . I am 60 years old and I have to take a steroid for adrenal failure because I do not make cortisol in my body anymore. Steroids can make hair fall out so I am always fighting the hair loss. My hair is 3a/3b I have straighter spots and doily spots and it can be frustrating. I’ve been soending a ton on Oribe products for the last 20 years or so and each bottle is $42-$56 and I have a lot of product. But since learning about not your Mother’s and also CurlSmith products I have biught a few to see how I like them. I love the Oribe products but sometimes I struggle with too mulch product in my hair and I have to rinse and then play the experiment game with a little of this a little of that until I get it right. It can be so frustrating. Then I moved to a rural area ad used to have a wonderful hairdresser. This person I go to doesn’t know how to color my hair correctly and she ALWAYS cuts too much off and I tell her, remember I will lose 2”-3” after my hair curls up. But she never learns.

Jenny Rose: I'm only starting wearing my hsir wavy after about 15 years of blowing it out. Wasn't even on purpose but I'm enjoying it. I like your videos not sure I want to use gel yet because most of them I dont like but I prefer curl cream + light hold hair spray.

autumn larsen: Hi I've been loving watching your video's! I have struggles to figure out exactly what works for my hair for years.. I would say I have naturally beach wavy hair.. Depending on the day they curls will be more defined other days I feel like my hair is half wavy half straight.. I am always struggling to find the right products. I did try the shea moisture products that was recommended for type 2 hair yet they weighed my hair down to just feel more greasy I did go in and rinse my hair again the second day cause I just felt like I needed to get a lot of that product out. I was going to try the not your mothers curl talk.. Would you recommend this for me or is there any other kind of products that you would recommend?

Cortney Graham: Can you do a curly hair routine that’s vegan friendly? I love your tutorials :)

Mandy Miller: I’m so glad I found you! It’s so hard to find someone with similar curl patterns.

Briene The Fox: How should I know when to deep condition my hair with a moisturizing deep conditioner vs a protein one? I have 2c/3a curls so it’s sometimes hard to tell lol. Thanks!

Allison Laramore: I just found you on IG and YouTube. Your videos are phenomenal! Thank you!

Pragati Tangade: Loved your routine surely gonna try it !!

Anna Maria: Thank you! I have been looking for something like this to get started!!

Sheryl Kreps: Hi Gena Marie, I'm not so new t the CGM, but I'm trying to figure out if I need more moisture or protein. I recently got my hair cut and colored (that is a MUST), but my hair looked very frizzy and didn't have defined curls - that seems to have been happening lately. I have high porosity, low density, thin hair, a little above shoulder length, I think 2A/SOME 2B curls. I watch all your videos and recently watched the one using CurlSmith Weightless Air Dry Cream and used it. My curls are MUCH better. I really like it a lot... I just bought "Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Deep Conditioning Hair Masque". I've looked at the ingredients, and I THINK it's very moisturizing and protein light, if there's any protein in it at all. I'm hoping to use this on my next hair wash day. Does this seem right? I think I should be using a more moisturizing deep conditioner... do you agree? I look forward to your answer!

Tina Hope: I live in a Florida where it’s very humid and Not Your Mother’s is amazing for hold, but I think their line has a lot of perfume. For anyone with allergies or sensitivity to smells this like can be an issue.

Sobeida Ramirez: Can you do a drug store protein-free routine ❤️ I’ve checked out your videos on how to fix protein overload but the products mentioned aren’t very accessible/affordable. Then I went out and bought “protein free” products suggested by other youtubers and they ended up having protein! Now I got trust issues lmao and you’re the only one I trust!

A Joyful Sound: I am going to have to try damp styling. I usually always style my hair when it's really wet. Maybe I'll have a better hold and use less product Thanks for sharing this!

Gina Reynolds: Years ago when I was younger, my sister and I would wash our hair and we just flipped our head upside down, put mousse on our heads and scrunched. Our hair was longer and thicker though. I don't know how that would work now but I'm going to try this method. My hair is not real curly but curly/wavy...so hope this works for me!! ❤️ One question, does the mousse still make your hair hard and crunchy?

jeffsycks: Your hair is getting longer! Wow! Yeah!!! Great to see you today; and thank you for sharing

Allison Solaro: I just tried this for my first time ever. I would say my hair before I used the products was wavy, I describe it as a mop, but after using the products it just looks scrunched instead of like Gena’s curls. How do I get it to look curly??

Monica Harasti Realtor: Your hair looks amazing

michelle campos: Hi ! Do you have to use mouse or gel to get these types of results ?? Or is just cream okay ?

Maggie Harris: the curl talk gel is good for my hair because it doesn’t make my hair crunchy because of the looser hold. i have more wavy hair so a gel with more hold just doesn’t do as good to me

SHIRYON: My hair is a curly as yours. I used Ouidad products for years. To me, it's a lot of work and even maintenance in between washing. Only looks good the day of, and maybe the next day, even sleeping with satin pillow, etc. Then I'd have to reapply product, work my hair back into place, etc. Personally, I find it easy to blow dry. But kudos do you...your hair looks amazing.

Gina M Cox: Hi Gena, have you tried using OGX coconut curl line??? Love using that line...

Lisa Hovatter: I'm new at this; Did you apply mousse and gel? I have greying wavy hair and am confused about the cast which I think I need to create while my fine hair is drying to keep the wavy curl.

Tom BoyApproved: Do you rotate the deep conditioner WITH protein and deep conditioner WITHOUT protein each week?

Beatrice Alcaraz: I forgot to ask you how do you know if your hair has too much protein or not enough?

Amelia Gump: The Curltalk cream isn’t CGM approved unfortunately it’s the only product from that line(that I know of) that isn’t so it’s easy to miss. Loving your videos though!!

Amanda Lugo: sadly the curl talk crème is not curly girl approved since it contains "c13-14 isoparaffin"

Maria Ruvalcaba: How often should I shampoo and condition my hair?

Shirley Stoffels: Hi Gena, the curl talk shampoo and conditioner contains shea butter. Would that weigh down fine hair?

Hera Rin: At night do you rinse the product out? Also do you use a heat protectant spray before using the diffuser?

V PVG: Love your content!

Julie Mongold: I've never in my life been able to rake my fingers all the way through my hair when I've tried to brush style, I had to use so much leave in its like I didn't even wash my hair

Melissa Christner: I have type 2-a waves, could I use a leave in and a cream before mouse and gel? Just starting my wavy hair journey! Thank you so much for your vids!

Beatrice Alcaraz: I’m learning so much from your videos, the problem I’m having is using that pink brush my hair just gets all tangled, will you please give me some pointers?

Katie N: My question is: how do you get your hair to stay out of your face like this? My front face framing pieces are about as long as yours but they fall onto my face and I just can’t handle it!

Jenny Rose: Nice. I like thst you keep it simple and clear

Briana Fitzgerald: Do you have any cream recommendations that aren’t sticky and also oil recommendations to scrunch out the crunch with?

Tamara Lemon: Have you tried the NYM Curl Talk Exfoliating Scalp Scrub?

Melissa's Modern Take on Tupperware: If I have 2b fine curls can I still follow this routine and use these products?

Lena Dehart: Im new to this What a lot of steps. Thanks for explaining

Minna Uyeda: Love your hair videos, and your new cut. Do you get a wet cut, and see a regular stylist, and what do you ask for? I feel like the back of my hair is heavy and the curls don’t start at the root anymore...maybe time for a cut.

Maria Zarco: Would this still apply to just wavy hair?

Sarangcrochets: If I deep condition can I also do a hair mask ? Or is it best to only do one

Hummingbird X42: I finally bought Not your mother’s shampoo, it’s the best…. I have really long thick curly hair and it gets tangled and frizzy. When I brush my hair after washing it actually hurts my head.

Crystal T: Are all Curl Talk products CGM? And is this line good for really dry hair?

Whitney Daniell: This shampoo is also a chelating shampoo that gets out hard water build up on your hair

God: Do we have to use all of these products to get the look that you have?

Clapback Patrol: Good video but may I make a friendly suggestion... try parting it a little more on the side than what it is it would be more flattering

Hank Randolph: A word of advice: talk about no sulfates fast hair growth shampoo.

Molly Brown: Hi I have natural wavy hair and it’s very thick. I have straightened it for years, but for just over a year I’ve developed psoriasis and severe seborrhoec dermatitis. I’ve tried way too many shampoos, and treatments to try to ease the itchiness and the re growth of new scales. I’ve now decided to try the curly method and have bought products with acv as people have mentioned that acv is excellent for the scalp. Do you have any recommendations or advice?

Lovewax: Should refresh everyday until your next wash day if you have high porosity hair? Sometimes I'm not going anywhere and don't feel like doing anything to my hair, but it does get dry.

Michelle Bradford: How do you stop frizz. I have followed yourself and others like Manes by Mel but I am still get frizz. I have dense hair that is medium to some course.

Chrissy Backes: My roots are flat so thank you! I will try it to see if my roots get curly

Brooke Poindexter: What do you use in between deep conditioning if you use it once a week? Just use a leave in conditioner?

lily: hi! how often do you wash your hair?

Aaliyah Ramirez: My hair is very difficult to style, I have wavy and puffy hair and I tried everything and nothing works. I’m trying to see what works on my hair, the protect I use is Aussie, I’m not sure if that’s what’s causing my hair to get way to frizzy and puffy. I just need some recommendations for my hair and some advice on my hair

Alma Sletoe: I have so much frizz on the outer parts of my curly hair, is it good to buy just the whole curl talk Line? I really have NO idea about anything about curly hair.

Juliette Lewis: What kind of cut do you get? I have fine, thin hair and if it grows below my shoulders, it looks see through and stringy!

SalyX: Are these products (especially the mousse ) considered lightweight?

Saleh Al-Grayan: Where does oil go into all of this?

misunderstoodanaid2u: Can I do all this and no diffuse and just air dry ? I bleached my hair recently and I lost my curl pattern and I also have most of these products .

Kirsten Wright: What is you just air dried? Would it still be ok to use all these products?

arshia: I've been wondering- how do you sleep? Everywhere I look it says not to brush your hair, but when I wake up my hair is a pile of tangles and frizz, so it's kind of mandatory. I wash my hair once a week- I can't wash it every day to "refresh" my waves/curls. I guess I've had curls/waves since I was a child, but my mother always told me to brush my hair, so I would obediently brush them out. I just thought my hair was supposed to be "fluffy". I don't straighten my hair or do anything, I've just been brushing it and thinking my hair was fluffy. But I recently met up with a friend with wet hair and she told me if I put products in my hair (gel, mousse, etc) that I could keep my hair curly and stay away from frizz. So I looked into it and it's very confusing?? Is gel only a styler, or do you use it everyday? (same for mousse) Again, how do you sleep without tangles? Do you brush your hair? Do you use gel everyday or only when you wash your hair? Humidity and frizz? (I live near the coast- it's very humid) Please help!

Lupita Arrambide: I need help. I have wavy hair and it is really poofy and frizzy. I’ve tried gel and mouse but my hair is straight towards the ends in some area and I try to break the cast because it looks so dry and hard. It doesn’t feel or look healthy, I really don’t know what to do.

Araleigh Rane: Some people would say: "ugh it's so hard to style my straight hair" Curly hair: am I a joke to you? Ik every hair is different don't take this seriously

kawaii heather: Too bad we cant get not your mother's stuff in Canada

DoodleCharlie: I’m using this products now I ready like it

Sara Lange: My 6 and 4 years old have hair like you. I don’t want to use the hair dryer? Can I just let it air dry, and what would the result be?

maddie: the conditioner and cream made my hair sticky??? idk what the heck was wrong with it, but it made my hair so greasy, sticky, limp (and my hair is NEVER limp) and the cream was the same story. so disappointed.

Tammy Slack: I was wondering if you can tell me why when I use these products my hair is sooo dry on second day hair ??
