#greyhair

Hey there welcome to my curls welcome to my bathroom y'all. My name is Renee, and today I'm gon na talk about my curly gray hair. I'M often asked how I style my curly hair. What products do I use on my curly hair and how has going gray changed my curls and I'm gon na answer? All of those questions for you in the video today, I'm gon na jump in the shower wash dry and style. My hair, I'm gon na, explain everything I do as I do it, and I'm gon na show you all of my products and along the way, I'm gon na explain how going gray has changed. My curls so stay with me on and we're gon na fix this hairdo alrighty I'm out of the shower. I have my hair up in my husband's old t-shirt. Why do I do that? Because I find that using a towel soap with the water out of my hair too much, and if I use an old t-shirt, it really doesn't soak the wire around it keeps my hair super wet. So I just put it up in my husband's t-shirt now I did wash my hair today with my favorite purple shampoo joy code. Purple balance shampoo I've never tried another brand. I don't know how this compares. My hair stylist Betsy recommended this to me at the point that I needed to start using a purple shampoo and I like it, it does what I wanted to do so. I'Ve never waivered. So this is my favorite purple shampoo. I used it today, along with my matrix total results mega sleek conditioner. Now, if it was a day that I was not using my purple shampoo, I use the total results matching shampoo, but I always use my conditioner, and so today this was my combo. I left the purple shampoo on for about three minutes. I'M impatient like that's. That is all the time. I can stand there and wait and then I just love this conditioner, because it's snotty and slick can, I feel, like it stays in my hair after I rinse it, and I just love everything about it and I've been using this for a really long time. So this was today's combo, I'm never able to record a before, and after video when I use the purple shampoo, it just doesn't show up on video great. You all asked me many times to show a before-and-after and it just doesn't work out that the camera on my phone just can't catch it, but okay, so time is of the essence when my hair is up, so I'm gon na get going. This is what I do have a little chip clip and I'm gon na turn the head over. I cannot stand hair, wet hair, our products on my shoulders, so I just put my t-shirt right there. While I'm doing my thing, I have a continuous mist spray bottle. I just so much that puts out and I'm going to just free wet my hair, because I need my hair really really wet, so any water that did get sucked up from the t-shirt. I'M gon na get it out. This thing is awesome, y'all, so I'm not really disturbing my hair not running my fingers through it. I combed it in the shower and that's it I'm gon na. Let my curls stay in tact, I'm drippy wet. So that's all I need now. I'M gon na use. My bounce curl light cream gel I'm gon na put a dollop in my hand, belt like that and one squirt of my Paul Mitchell, skinny therm beep. Just like that rub it together flip my head and scrunch okay, then I'm going to do one more. I'M gon na do a smaller dollop. I just feel like the crown needs more attention, so I just scrunch, and can you hear it that is how wet my hair is? Super wet it's going to scrunch it in never raking. My fingers through my hair next product is my favorite product catwalk curls Rock amplifier. This is what keeps my hair I'm gon na. I'M gon na talk and do whoops one good pump bout like that. This is what keeps my hair put throughout the day. My curls. Don'T fall, got ta. Flip Blizzard's brush flip a little bit more up here, but this is the product that keeps my curls set all day long. It helps them kind of get in big bouncy, loopy curls, as opposed to individual stringy curls and again it's still wet here it here's my trick. You paying attention! I'M gon na, take this hair right here and I'm gon na tell it which direction to go. I'M twisting it around my finger and telling it how to start the curl pattern and it flips water everywhere. If I don't tell my curls where to start, they make their own decision and can be nuts, so I'm gon na pick some up here see I'm just flipping it twirling it and letting go. This area see how it automatically wants to go overhead. It'S my natural curve, curl pattern, but I don't want my part that drastic, so I'm gon na take this and bring it back down over here and go the other way and I have a little thin spot right here. Can you see that, and by doing this twist, it allows me to kind of cover up that thinning area a little bit with my hair, because I can tell it which direction to go now? I'M gon na do some in my crown just a few, and I might pick up a couple in here. I don't know I'm too different every time. Alright, now that it's done scrunch everything together and I'm ready to dry my hair. So now I'm ready to dry. My hair - and this is my favorite hair - dryer - talked about it in so many videos. This is a Bed Head, diffuser hairdryer. It just makes sense to have this short little hairdryer. I don't have my arm extended all the way out here. It has this big wide mouth I can just set my hair in it and it just does the perfect job, but I'm just gon na dry, my hair upside down about 80 % of the way I'm gon na. Take a towel off now grab a chunk of hair and just kind of in the hairdryer. Okay. I think I'm about 75 percent draw. I get this spot right here, never once to draw it's always the last section you have to work on it for them, but because my natural part goes this way. I'M gon na finish my drying it with my head hanging in this direction, because this is where I kind of want my hair to set up, and I know that all of this is going over and that's what I want whew my hair 85 percent dry. But I'm gon na turn my hair dryer off leave my head kind of hanging to the side like this, because I want this part area to be really full and I find that if I let my hair cool down with it off flipped over, it does a Way better job than if I stand upright and let the hair fall while it's still warm. So I'm just gon na hang out like this for a minute, yeah right in here still a little bit: that's! Okay! Okay! So my hair is cool. I'M just gon na stand up normal and it will just naturally fall on its own. Now I got one crazy right here. I know this is not right. I should not have all this hair over here. I'M gon na leave it alone. I want it to cool and set the way it is, and the reason why I do that if this hair right here clearly is it needs to fall down. But if I pull it down right now it just gets kind of limp. It doesn't have all that bouncy curl, like the rest of my head, and so I'm gon na, let it dry and cool going in the other direction and then, when I do pull it down, it's gon na have a lot of volume in that area. I want volume in the crown and the sides, otherwise I get real flat like right there in my part, so I'm just I'm just gon na. Let it be I'm gon na go put on some makeup. Do around the house for about 10 or 15 minutes. Let this continue to air dry on its own, then we'll come back and finish up my hair. Okay, I'm back! It'S been about 10 minutes long enough for me to put on some makeup and have a phone conversation. You can see how this parted area has stayed over the top, which is exactly what I wanted to do. My hair is still a little bit wet and I need to get on with my day, so I'm going to hit it again with the hairdryer. My bed head just kind of been some wet spots and speed this up, I'm gon na. Let that cool down. Then I'm gon na finish, styling my hair, just the finishing touches we're just gon na kind of pull this down and fluff everything up and then I'm done for the day. Okay, so my hair is cool. My hair is dry, I'm going to finish my hair and then I'm gon na answer. All of your questions about how going gray has changed. My curls, a lot of you all who have curly hair and are going gray, are finding that the gray is making your curls do something crazy. And so I want to tell you what it's done for my curls and we'll just kind of talk that, through in a minute I'm gon na look in the mirror. First of all see what my shape is and y'all. I need a haircut bad. It has been seven weeks or maybe more since I have had a haircut and I'm not getting a haircut for another three weeks yeah. So my hair is just huge right now, so I'm gon na try to check it out and all I'm gon na do at this point is kind of pull my hair up just get a little break it up just a little bit and then I'm going to Tap that dry hands, I'm just gon na kind of crunch, my hair scratch my hair. My hair is not crunchy. None of the products that I put in my hair make my hair crunchy. They do kind of make them set, and I just want to break that up just a little bit, so I can put my hair where I want it. Okay, so see how I have this big part right here, and this hair doesn't need to go this way. It makes me look really lopsided with a bunch of hair over here and the reason I love to let my hair dry and cool with this big drastic part in it is for this reason watch this. I'M gon na get a hold of this hair, which, let's see let's try this one, I'm gon na get a hold of this which doesn't need to go there. We gently pull it apart. Let'S get this one, and I don't know about this one. What do y'all think and we'll get him? So if I just kind of give it a scrunch all right, I think I'm gon na call it y'all, I'm gon na go with it. This is my hair dude. For the day, I feel like my hair routine is very simple. It'S very quick and only took me about ten minutes really to dry my hair, and it's so easy. I don't know - and I see women all over YouTube who have curly hair. You have such a an extensive, in-depth routine to get their curls to look good. You know, I don't have time for that. I just have learned what works for my hair and I've learned to just kind of accept where my hair falls every day. It may look different tomorrow. It looked different yesterday and that's okay. My hair is not going to be perfect every day, but this is what I'm sporting today y'all. I still have some colored bits. It'S like the ends of everything is still just dabbed in a little bit of color right up here, I'm ready for the brown to go, and you can rest assured. When I get my final haircut, you will be there with me. We are gon na be celebrating y'all we're gon na have a big party at Betsy's the day that she's able to finally cut off these little bits of hair. So how has going grey changed? My curls? This is such a tough question. It really is because my hair was so dry and damaged when I was colouring it. It was like straw, my curls didn't want to curl. They would fray out at the ends. I had sections that were like around my face that were way more damage than areas in my in the back, and so I really don't know what my natural hair would have been. I have lived with damaged, fried curls for 20 years. So yes, with the gray started to come in, my curls did freak out just a little bit like they didn't know what to do, because they were healthy curls and I wasn't used to used to healthy curls. So I don't think that I can say my gray curls were bad or good or better than my other curls, because mommy comparison was bad damaged, colored curls, but once I got about six seven eight months in to the gray and I had a huge amount of Gray right here to really see what was gon na happen. I realized that my gray hair started taking on its own and correct curl pattern and blending. In with my colored hair, I had some time where I thought my gray hair was going to be straight. I had an amount of time where my gray hair was just nothing but frizz. I had an amount of time where the new gray hair coming out put like this halo of fuzz around my head, because my colored hair had broken off. I was missing hair and when the new healthy hair started to emerge, it wasn't long enough to have any length on it, and so it just kind of stuck out like a halo of frizz and fuzz, but that eventually passed that hair, because it was now healthy, Grew longer and intermingled in with the rest of my hair and my gray hair is so it's so soft. I wish you could just feel this. I have never had soft hair. My hair has always been like straw. My gray hair is so soft and so loose and bouncy and healthy and happy. It was a really good decision to go gray. Just strictly speaking about quality of my hair and the healthiness of my hair, going gray has been a really good move for my hair. So I hope that answered your questions about how I style my hair, and I hope I answered your questions about how going gray has changed. My curls, the best thing to remember if you're, a curly gal and you're going gray is you're. Just gon na have to give it some time. You'Re gon na, have to give your new gray hair time to grow out just a little bit get a little bit of length on it and kind of figure out its own life and its own curl pattern. And I really think that you will be very pleased with your new gray curls. I certainly am, if you have any questions about my curls, that I did not answer in this video or about my gray. Hair are the products that I use just comment below and ask me I'll gladly answer yet and I'm gon na put links in the description box below to all of the products that I use on my hair. So, thank you all for joining me in the bathroom today and doing a hairstyle video that was kind of fun. I always love to talk about my gray, hair y'all, and I love it that you all like to hear about my hair too. So until next time. Y'All, good luck with your curls good luck! With your gray! You can do it and I'll see you later!

WELCOME TO MY CURLS: Good looking curls don't have to be difficult. My curly routine is simple and pretty quick! How long does it take you to style your hair?

Lori V.: I went gray about 2.5 years ago and I love my gray curls! I love finding other gray curlies!

Rachelle Ellington: So I have the straightest hair ever and I still watched this! You are so fun and I thank you for sharing something so personal. ✌️

Jamie LV: I had a similar experience letting my Curley grey hair come in. It took about 18 months until I could get most of the left over colored hair cut off but it was worth persevering. My hair is now healthy and soft. I'm a minimalist when it comes to styling and don't like stiff crunchy products, so I really appreciate your product recommendations.

cfglz06: Thank you for sharing your routine. I also did the gray transition. It's been 2 yrs and I also learned so much about my curly hair from other curly channels. I had always brushed it not realizing that was a big no no !!! I am happy with it I just regret not accepting it when I was younger and learning about it. The headaches I would have saved myself from . Thanks again.

Dawn Ruhl: I had surgery and my thick, straight silver hair was coming out in handfuls about 4 or 5 days after surgery. Now my hair is super wavy. It all grew back, and I've been on a search for what products I should be using to help keep it curly. This video helped a lot. Thanks!

Josie G.: I've been going gray for over a year and a half. You are the first person that I've stumbled across who has curly hair. I have curly fine hair and have struggled with hair products. I'm definitely going to give your routine a try to see how it works. Super excited! I feel exactly like you. My hair has never been better after dying it for 20 year's. Thank you!

Pingo: you and your hair are so beautiful! I dyed my hair for the last time today, as close as possible to my natural color. It is so freeing! I have dyed it for 20 years because I thought ash/mousey blonde was so boring and un-original (especially here in scandinavia, lol). But I've decided to embrace it! Besides everyone is trying to dye their hair ash blonde now, and spending alot of time and money to maintain it. I'm ready for a year of bad hair days

Tanya Brown: I love watching your videos. I suffer from depression and severe anxiety and you videos seem to keep me calm. Thank you and please keep making videos. I love your dogs.

KittyLoves8265: i've been going gray for 4 years now. my gray hair comes in straight, i was upset because i was losing my curl. then i found the curly girl method, (and revised it for my finances). and YES! my curls are coming back. so hap-eeeee!

j deangelo: Woot woot. Hair cutting party!!!! So excited for you. Thank you for taking us along for your journey. You look beautiful and stunning!!!!

Nora Faram: I’m loving your videos. We have the same hair! I just started going grey, I like it my men don’t . I wish I had a full head of hair like yours my has thinned a lot. I blame the coloring, and COVID. I’m hanging in there! Your are encouraging!

Linda Marocco: Your hair looks gorgeous!!!!... it looks so healthy going natural!!!!... love it!!!... thank you for a great video!...stay healthy and safe!!!......I will be there for your celebration!!!... you are so encouraging!!!!!

Jojo R: I’m so glad I watched this one. I am a curly girl, but everyday is different so watching you really clarified to me that I am not alone in the different challenges. I have them all. I am going to switch up my products and try yours. I’ve tried so many already so why not I love that blow dryer way better for curly girls.

Karin Caplin: Hi, I love everything about your hair! I'm happy to be a curly girl too Its almost 3 months since I've colored my hair brown and I'm so excited to see my GREY!!!! I bought the purple shampoo you use and I wanted to know when to start using it, should I wait until I have more growth? love your video's!!❤

Terry Ciavola: Your hair always looks great! Me having straight hair I still have a routine to keep it where I want to! Your gray is looking beautiful! Stay safe my friend!

Jenni ‘Wren’ Marr: Having coloured my hair for 20+ years, my mid lengths/ends were always dry. My grey hair is so healthy, it’s always been poker straight, but now instead of being a bit straw-like, it feels like silk.

Elizabeth Sampson: This helped me so much! I never diffuse my hair because it frizzes. I need that blow dryer and the curl cream. I haven't had my hair cut since January and I really really need it! I love how your grey came in. I am 7 months into my grey. I have that straw like feeling with the color still in. I am hoping it will be different when the grey totally comes in. You give me so much hope.

Barb Robbins: I am 9 months into going grey. My hair isn’t quite as long as I need it to be to curl properly so I have been blowing it out smooth. I am going to stop that and just let it curl thanks to your videos.

Rhonda Wolfgang Belluscio: I would love to have my mother & younger sister's beautiful silver hair! My straight blonde hair (all my life) has changed to wavy reddish after having to take an injection for psoriasis for the last 5 years!! The front and sides are still blonde, but the back is so dark! People are always asking me who does my coloring! I tell them God!! Still waiting for the gray!! Love your videos. Kisses to Maxxie & Pollux XOXO. Happy Holidays from Pa. .

uppity1: Came for Pollux; stayed for the gray hair empowerment :)

rowanalba: New subscriber! Natural black, curly hair, transitioning to grey (Scots-Italian) & watching with interest. Thank you for your work!

Hernane: Thanks for sharing. It was of a great help to me! your hair is beautiful!!!

Brandon OMalley: Fascinating to me being bald most my life.I used to complain about it till now.Stunning!

Brenda Wischmeier: I love your hair,so pretty and curly. I also have curly hair.Today is 7 months for me without coloring my hair,so I have a lot of grey showing. I have a question...just out of the blue..do you work out, exercise?Love watching your videos, you are so down to earth.

Bananka: I love your curls. I want to make my hair like this

Aunty Linda: Great hair! Love it x

Amie Rikke: Very helpful! Your curls look great. One question, you might of mentioned this but somehow I didn’t catch it, how often do you wash your hair? After the first day, do you go to putting your hair up? I have very thick curls that are on the frizzy side which might be from the damage that the dye has done. I’m washing about every 3 to 5 days. On the days I wash, I try to keep my hair just down or loose after I style it, but it’s so crazy out of control I end up in a pony or twist. I’m hoping as my colored hair grows out and the frizz gets cut off, the curls will be a little more manageable.

Kay Kay Lovinslots: My hair is straight as a board so this was so interesting to watch. Love your hair .....jealous!! ❤️

Kimberly Dawson: Hey Renee - I have very short straight hair, but it does part to the left on it's own. I use Pantene shampoo but I don't use a conditioner it makes my hair greasy. I have to wash my hair everyday then blow it dry. You can see the grey in my hair and it is mostly all over. The other color is a really light brown I mean really light brown. I wish I had some curl for some height instead of flat. I keep my hair in a pixie hair style. Just don't have time for fancy hair. Thank you for your YouTube channel very interesting to watch. I am really interested in your makeup routine, the makeup you use looks very natural looking. I'm 61 years old and want to look younger and natural with some color on my face and not just plain. I have been looking for the brand's that you use and right now are out of my budget. I'm on disability, so I have limited income. But, I would like some of the brand's that you use. Where do you get them?

crazyhorse863: Thank you for sharing... as I have gone thru menopause my hair has gone curly on its own and the gray is coming in quickly

AnnieLin Gray: Thank you. Helpful encouragement- to stay patient as the new undamaged hair needs to find its way!

GH: Yesterday, I used the Matrix shampoo and conditioner for the first time :) My hair is sooo light. I typically don't rinse out all of the conditioner and I was wondering if you do the same? If so, how much of the conditioner do you leave in while rinsing?

Gardengal5000: Wow! So glad I found your video! I have curly hair that I hated when I was younger. Straight hair was the style & I didn't know about products so my hair would frizz out when I didn't use dippity do & sleep in large rollers. Years later I embraced my curls & but not my gray. Have colored my hair for years & have been planning to let my gray grow out for a while now. With my salon closed for so long I decided this is the time. So I am starting my journey of natural curly gray hair. Can't wait to try your suggested products soon.

rhonda jordan: Thank u for being honest bringing us on your journey helps

Bridget Mohr: Great video Renee !! Your curls look Beautiful!

Lori Skillman: I had super short dyed hair, hello pandemic..my curls popped out and I'm gray. I love it. My hair has thinned out, I'm 60. It's definitely top heavy, I need some layers put in and I'll be good.

Linda Marocco: Your grey is a gorgeous color!!!!!... 9 weeks for me, today!!!!wooohoooo!

Leslie Powell: Your hair is stunning! I'm going to buy your products... Hopefully mine will look as beautiful as yours!

Stella Jameson: Your hair is gorgeous!! At what point in the grey transition, should I start using the purple shampoo. I'm on Week 12. I thought now is a good time to do this with no salons open in my area even though my mother said I am too young to go grey! She had only dyed her hair once and hated it and has gorgeous salt and pepper hair so why the attitude about me? LOL I am nearing 60!

Marione Navarro: very effortless way to have and keep up with beautiful curls. You are lucky Renne. You really have gotten wonderful curly hair.

Einstein Darwin: You are so strong. I can’t get out of the bed early enough any to do all that work to my hair before going to work.

Miribel Naturals: Your curls are gorgeous

Nymjen: Your natural color is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Missy Beck: Very encouraging thank you!

M Alba: You've inspired me......going grey, natural curly, already chopped half off. Why is this such a transition for me and everyone else. You'd think platinum is in. I've noticed less hair falling out. Thank you.

Spirit Moon: Your grey looks fab! I use very little product; purple conditioner. Scrunch with a towel, run a comb through it and let it air dry. I have natural wave on the ends. I too have that fuzzy halo on top from new growth. lol If I flat iron, I do use a heat protector. Can't wait to see you with all the color cut out. Your grey is gorg!

Ann4U2000: I did buy the BedHead Diffuser , but I found even on the low setting it blew to hard and frizzed my hair. So how I use it now is I use my old standard diffuser to set my cast on my waves...then after I do my makeup I can use the BedHead diffuser as a hover dryer. to finnish off drying .... Keeping it it far enough away that the wind from it doesn't frizz up my hair. At least I'm getting use out of it. I think because you have thicker , heavier, curlier hair is why it works for you as a everyday diffuser. I don't regret buying it. But I don't think it works for all curly girls.

M B: Just started watching your channel initially for your "greying" journey and your adopting Pollux, who I love, Max too. I'm 71 and I totally enjoy every aspect of your channel. Do you think you can give us a tutorial of how you deep clean your house one room at a time. I'm lacking motivation and I know watching you will motivate me. You are uplifting and energetic and so down to earth. I would love it if you were my daughter.

dana studer: I love it. So pretty!

Wincy Meow: Hi Renee, I found you through your Pollux videos (Lovely boy). My hair couldn't be more opposite to yours . It's very fine and quite thin. My skin is quite sallow so I'm worried that my hair and skin colour would blend if I went grey . I'm 61 (31 in my head). I'm sure I would just end up looking like I'm 91 . Your hair looks truly fabulous. From Australia

JS: Hi there, thanks for the video. When your hair goes gray does it change to high porosity?

Jacqueline Gesin: How do you keep the curls going all week so I don’t have to wash my hair every other day?

Jennifer Lee: I bet your grey will be all you have left once you get the haircut. It will be great and you do a nice job with it. You have adjusted to the grey very well Renee. I have very little grey hair--my family does not go grey--I have it just underneath an on my temples so I have no idea what you have been dealing with.

Robin Waltz: This was a good watch! I have the same hair!!

Cheryl Smith: So pretty!!

rhonda jordan: That thinning area u have I do also I also have wavy hair and 59 years old be careful twisting at the root it will thin out more to tight in a bun or pony tail also

getsirius100: I love your hair!

loveforeignaccents: How about a video routine on how to get your nice, toned arms?!! Thank ya if you can :-)

lorna wright: Hey what did you use on you short grey hair to stop the fuzzy look

Janice Longthorn: Lovely hair and colour x

Guera Cabrera: i got the joico shampoo you recommended. i like it but do you know if their blue mask works just as good. i'm looking for a blue mask and i'm brunette. any suggestions welcomed. thanks.

spirals 73: Your hair looks great but mine is just too dang long for this. You: "I haven't had my hair cut for 7 weeks." Me: "I haven't had a haircut in 7 years." I don't tell my curls where to start because they don't listen to anything I say and then the next day they're waves anyway (I braid overnight).

Jacqueline Gesin: What’s the best way to keep the curls all week.

taz maniandevil: Very attractive middle aged woman looks great beautiful skin as well as hair

Julie Vanderzyl: Hi-loved your video! How often do you wash your hair?

Rebeca Anderson: Where do you buy that purple hair dryer you used on the video? thanks for the tips!
