DISCLAIMER: A portion of ths video was made in partnership with Seen Hair Care - all opinions are always honest and my own. The description may also contain affiliate links. This helps support the channel and allows us to continue to make videos like this. Thank you for your support!

I i didn't want to have to tell you this, but the hair products we're using might be causing our acne, but before you go ahead and throw away all of your products, don't freak out and stay tuned. What'S good everybody welcome back to the channel. It'S me curly, hair, specialist, hairstylist and humane girl, mel, whom also struggles with acne. Although 99.9 of the content on this channel is dedicated towards hair care, you know the dead strands of keratin fiber that may be curly that also hang dangerously close to our face. Well, it just might be that some of the hair care products that you and me have been using could be perpetuating, or at least definitely not helping the conditions of our skin. We have got a lot to cover today, including getting a little nitty-gritty and scientific about what it means to be comedogenic. Why and how our products might be the cause of a little bit of acne and, of course, i'll be sharing lots of solutions. I'Ve got tons of pro tips and tricks of my sleeves, and i'm also really excited that i partnered with scene. You may have seen them on this channel before when last year me and my sister, while we were on the hunt for fragrance free products, found this brand tried them fell in love with them. Scene is a dermatologist founded skin caring, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic hair care brand. That was developed for skin care fast forward. To now, i'm going to tell you guys about a new product that they are launching today. That is called the magic serum which is a very unique product and may be very beneficial for you. If you are a little acne blemish prone like me and are afraid of putting oils on her hair, which can be so beneficial but scary for our skins, so we'll talk a little bit more about this soon. So without further ado, let's pop into it pop into it like pop, like a pimple except don't pop your pimples, not all types of pimples are the same, and the acne and blemishes caused by cosmetics and hair products also look a little bit different. So first things. First, if you are not sure, if maybe the products that you are using are causing your acne here's a few things that you may want to look out for she will tell you finally not to get nitpicky, but i have been bursting to get nitty-gritty in scientific Hi, i'm melly and acne acne of all forms have one thing in common, and this is clogged pores. Now the specific acne associated with our cosmetics is called acne cosmetica. It'S not that it's pretty straightforward now, cosmetics are not only makeup, but hair care as well, and the american academy of dermatology describes hair products to be the cause of this chromosomal acne. That appears on the forehead neck cheeks back crack nope all around our hairline, and these show up as these tiny little flesh covered bumps that are known as closed comadones now comedones can also be open, also known as blackheads. You may be more familiar with these terms. Blackheads and whiteheads, on our face known as painting my ass one and two male keep it together. It'S fine. This is the type of acne that is most commonly seen and created by the use of cosmetics. But, unlike things like pustules and cystic acne, they are very surface level very surface little baby, little tiny, little pustule little pain in my things. Well, damn now that we know what the acne caused by hair care looks like. How is this actually happening, and how can we avoid it? Well, mel, a study done by dermatologist dr iris ruben, who is also the founder of scene, hair care, found that the mechanism by which hair care products contribute to acne may be through the residue that they leave on our skin. This chart shows us the amount of residue left over from products that are rinse off like shampoos and conditioners 30 minutes after treatment, one hour after treatment, even two hours after the treatment. You can see that products live on our skin longer than that short time. We are in the shower and as for leave-in stylers, it has been shown to leave residue on the skin for up to four hours after the styling process. It'S kind of gross. Now these findings may be able to explain the acne, cosmetica and comedones on both the skin and body from hair products which are not tested for their comedogenicity yeah, as in the products that people may be using may contain ingredients that are comedogenic and problematic for the Skin'S health and conditions and clogging and pustules - i just wanted to say, pustules - also save them. If you naturally have an overproduction of sebrum. Like me, bum i've seen you at the door. Ah ingredients is this: the problem with our hair care? Should i start analyzing all my products for these ingredients and chucking them? Well, just you wait because there's some tea about. I do want to interject when it comes to reading your ingredient list. There'S one more thing you should look out for now, while picking apart an ingredient list and trying to understand it may be a little unsuccessful and also a toxic trait step back from the bottle. It'S not a bad idea to take a look at the first seven ingredients of a product. The first seven ingredients listed on a product label are going to have the highest concentration in your formula. Just keep that in mind and take a look at the first seven ingredients. If anything. So thanks melly i've got it from here. I'Ve also got some very good information from a real scientist. If you have not heard of seen watched or follow lab muffin beauty, science, then you absolutely should she is a cosmetic chemist a while back. She did a whole video explaining comedogenicity of ingredients, ingredients that are ranked on a scale from zero to five that were originally tested on bunny ears and in the studies that just were not accurate to real life on a human face. If you're interested in learning more about that, you should definitely watch her video i'll link it in the description box below. But some of the most important things that you need to know is just because an ingredient is rated number five extra high super comedogenic that ingredient on its own. It may cause you to clog your pores, but when that ingredients - let's say, for example, coconut oil is formulated into a product things change, it might not be as comedogenic as it once was, which means just because there's a little bit of, for example, coconut oil. In a product doesn't specifically mean that it is going to cause acne in the right formula. They can be totally fine. However, on the flip side, some combinations of products might become comedogenic. Sometimes, when there's a lot of different ingredients in a formula, certain combinations might become comedogenic or the formula in general could become irritating, especially if you have very sensitive skin and very acne prone skin, there's more likelihood of irritants being in the formula. The more ingredients that there are in the formula, so what can we do? Well, i know in the past i bought makeup that has said non-comedogenic on it, but wait because there's one more thing: non-comedogenic is not an fda regulated term, meaning that just because a product might claim to be non-comedogenic doesn't actually mean that it it means. Well, we could hope one could hope. There'S a bit of an honor system situation happening there. You know that brands are making correct claims, but as consumers we have the control to choose which brands we shop from. So as long as you do, your research trust the brands that you shop from and listen to, professionals like chemists and dermatologists and people that back their claims up by science. Then i foresee that we should be acne-free soon. Anyways seen as the brand has been founded by a dermatologist who actually dr aries has tested all of her products on her face to truly test the comedogenicity of each and every one of her products. She'S ever put out it's the dedication for me, couldn't be me and finally, they've been working on their new magic serum for a very long time before they finally launched it, which i have been using this for a couple of months now, and i'm really excited to Talk about it because, as someone with oily acne prone skin, who does love her hair oils, i could not give up my hair oils and serums. This magic serum looks like an oil feels like an oil, but it's not quite oil. It is a non-comedogenic formula with only three ingredients. This serum has an ultralight feel on both the hair and the skin. It completely absorbs in and does not leave you with any form of residue and without residue, depending on how you choose to use it. This product can be cocktailed into deep conditioners to make them even more nourishing, which i can confirm, worked because i've used their scene deeper conditioner on its own before and when i cocktailed a dropper full of the magic serum into my deep conditioner. It was. It worked. Truly even deeper, but my favorite way to use the magic serum and any hair oil or serum is on my dry hair. So after i have used my curl cream to define my curls, i've set my hair in place with a mousse or gel dried, my hair. It is at that point when i like to finish my hair with my oil or serum, to soften out any crunchy cast, and also to prevent frizz and flyaways from occurring, defend against humidity and add some extra shine. Of course, the serum is also fragrance free. It is cruelty free, it is vegan, as is the rest of the brand and everything that they stand for, on top of, of course, standing by the fact that they are skin caring and will not clog our pores, and i just want to say i'm genuinely so Impressed by these formulas, because you know our skin, which is alive, is very different from her hair, which is dead, really knew what she was doing here she did and if you are interested in seeing your routine, i do encourage you on seeing a video that i Posted with my sister last year in a fragrance free routine, which you can see a little bit more of a styling routine and the other products. I really like, like the curly cream, which i reach for very often my bottle, is almost done. She'S fabulous. I love her and i love you so i want to leave you with some final tips: products aside, things that we can do and implement into our daily routines to prevent our hair products from touching our skin. Okay, we want, we want social distancing. That is not cute. That was too brushed. I look like a buffoon, but for real here's, seven things that you can do to prevent. Acne breakouts from your hair products tip number one wash your body after washing your hair number, two rinse, your hair from the conditioner in the sink okay, if you're like if you're weird like me, we talked about this. It'S fine. It'S very key, it's very helpful so that your conditioner is not running all over your body, plus it gets to sit in a little longer. It'S great on that note number three wash your face and do your face: skin routine after you've already applied your hair products, which, if you can number four style, your hair away from your face. Okay, no bangs off the face. Keep it back, keep it up, keep it wrapped. Okay, sleeping with a bonnet is tip number five, so that your hair doesn't rub all over your pillowcase, which of course touches your face. Also number six wash those pillowcases at least twice a week and number seven try not to put hair products too close to your scalp, which i remind you is skin unless you are using skin caring and skin friendly, approved products. But i can say from first-hand experience that having acne isn't easy, it's not an easy fix either, but consistency in our skincare routines and even our hair care routines and implementing these tips and tricks can truly help to manage things you are beautiful. Your face is a work of art. I hope you found this video pretty helpful. If you did, please give it a thumbs up. If you have been on the hunt for a super lightweight, simple formula but magical oil, serum for your hair, then definitely check out the magic serum that will also be linked in the description box below and while you're down. There comment: if you have an extra tip for me or someone else be kind. We are. We are kind here, especially when it comes to skincare it's a touchy subject. It'S fine, but also i'd, love, to hear any tips and tricks that you have i'd. Also love to hear what other videos you'd like to see so make sure you leave those in the comment section below subscribe, so you can see them. This has been the main girl now and scientifimele thanks ma'am and we are out peace, okay, acne just a little bit. It'S just a little bit of acne. It'S just a couple of pimples. It'S just a little bit of acne, i'm sweating hashtag, no makeup, hashtag no filter, not now not ever, but there was a fluff and um. You know i've always really liked pepperoni pizza. No! It'S fine! I don't know yes hi, finally not to be nitpicky, but i have been bursting to get scientific nitpicky sneaky snooki j, wow, sammy dina, not angelina. If you don't understand that reference, it's probably best. If we're not friends, oh no angelina, very little hamster. Where did the top of my head go day? Four? Where did the time go? This is day four of my hair and it's still looking so good. It feels really nice. I did it man, peace, peace, please, please. I need air in this room, i'm sweating so bad, i'm a whole damn storm.

Amanda Guido: Happy texture Tuesday!!! Sees u killed this video. We appreciate you and all the research that goes behind every single video

Maria Knopp: Finally! I'm so excited. I have been waiting for this. As my hair became better my skin got worse. I've never had breakouts until transitioning. The only thing that has helped is a daily morning and evening facial cleansing routine. Thanks Mel and Amanda!!!!!!

Alison: I definitely have had this problem! Lately I’ve been wearing shirts that cover my back and chest when I put my hair products in my wet hair. I also claw clip my hair way from my face after blow drying it, wash my face/neck/chest, and I use the Paula’s Choice BHA toner everywhere that I tend to breakout from my hair products (face, neck, chest, upper back). This has helped get rid of the residue Mel was talking about. I do this every wash day (about twice a week) and it has helped a ton with my acne from my hair products. It has enabled me to use the same products that my hair loves even though my skin doesn’t necessarily love them.

J Glac: My acne actually improved once I stopped using silicone products in shampoo and conditioners. I tried going back but got huge zits again. Stylers with silicone are ok though

SioLazer: Things that have helped me: I use a clean bath towel and a clean wash cloth every time I bathe. I love cleansing cloths for my face. I've only been changing my pillow cases once a week but I wash my hair twice a week, I would consider twice a week. I change my sheets once a week but maybe I need to do it twice a week. I exercise with my hair in a buff. I think this helps a lot because I'm not sweating product onto my face. I used to get scalp zits but after I started using a scalp scrubber, they've been 100% banished. Also, I've started using mostly curlsmith to style my hair and I'm pretty impressed in general and notice I'm not breaking out as much as when I used SheaMoisture.

Lk S: I had breakouts and hyperpigmentation like you have, Mel. I had it through my early 40’s and used a lot of oil based products in my hair. I don’t use much oil now and I am very careful not to get hair products on my face. The most important thing to do to stop the hyperpigmentation is to stay away from the mirror and “sit on your hands”! Literally don’t put your (dirty) hands anywhere near your breakout areas, unless you are washing your face. Clean pillow cases and all of the things listed by commenters and everything you are saying is spot on. But don’t touch your face! Sometimes we habitually touch painful, irritating skin eruptions without even looking or realizing. Don’t do it. As a result of leaving my face alone to heal and keeping it clean, using very little oils on my hair, and pulling my hair away from my face when I workout, my skin is now clear and I have no more hyperpigmentation.

Taylor Quinlan: When I gave myself curtain bangs I noticed acne starting to form that you talked about Mel. Good skin takes effort so I decided to step up my skin care routine. I do a 6/7 step routine at night and a 3 step routine during the day. I still get hormonal break outs on my chin and around my mouth but the other acne has disappeared completely and my skin looks great. Always put a barrier between your skin and your hair care products. It really makes a difference.

Claudia Okyere-Fosu: Your dedication to keeping us informed is unmatched thank you Mell

Lori Oliveras: Mel u need to come out with your own line too ! I love your knowledge and love for hair care!

Maria Soc: Great video Mell! As a NY esthetician, I advise my clients with acne to change your pillowcase weekly. Keep your hair off your face since products will usually cause acne. Put your hair up and away from your face. Watch how you rinse your hair when using creamy products, shampoos etc... If you can't control your acne with over the counter tropicals or washes with salicylic, glycolic, benzoyl peroxide etc.. Then one should definitely see a board certified dermatologist. So they can help with meds, cortisone shots to bring a bump down, prescription washes etc and get one on a great skincare routine. Keep cel phones clean and off your face Most importantly I ask my clients show me your products, makeup, trash those horrible beauty blenders etc... Etc... Etc... Etc...

KK's world: Oh my gosh. Thank you soooo much Mel! I've gotten some new products lately and have been leaving my hair down and I've had a sudden spike in back, neck, and face acne. This video is literally my savior tysmm

kourt theo: So here's my tip! You know those satin head scarfs from amazon ( there's like 10 in a bundle) just use them as a pillow cover and change it out every day or every other day x

Sophia Aloeristok: ALWAYS appreciate how much research and work you put in to get us accurate and helpful information ❤️

N C: This couldn’t have arrived at a better time. I’m currently trying a coconut oil based hair masque and I honestly got 2 pimples right after. One is on my hair line and one on my nose. And I don’t get pimples. Well... I do but it’s very rare. I’de definitely be more mindful when washing these products out. I’ll probably up my face cleansing game too coz right now I only use bath soaps. ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️

Kalyxtia: I used to have this problem with Pantene's mousse. Super shiny hair but loads of tiny pimples on my forehead. I stopped and pimples went away! I wasn't entirely sure of the connection between both, so thanks for this video!

Warped Fibers: Love your videos! Definitely agree with the pillowcase tip. Flipping and switching out my pillowcases more often has made one of the biggest differences in my acne.

Stephanie Solingen: I just love, the way you spill the tea, tell it like it is and being honest, even if it is a sensitive subject. Thank you.

Sara M.: This video is uniquely amazing and very informative and well laid-out. Thank you Mell. Also, Seen looks like a very trustworthy brand that I wanna try some day. Thank you for sharing!! And I wanna praise Mell in this video for being so authentic and confident in showing her beautiful healthy skin.❤️❤️

Reservechic: HAPPY TEXTURE TUESDAY! It’s really great to see someone talk very in-depth that honestly isn’t talked about enough. Alt if hair are products are notorious for causing acne issues for a lot of people, definitely including myself. I’ve definitely experienced acne breakouts due to certain products I have used before in the past, tons of times. Most of it has come from styling creams that my hair have agreed with, but my definitely didn’t. I have also learned that wearing my hair going backwards away from my face helps best me but getting a lot of acne breakouts in my forehead too. So, I mainly stick with styling gels, and if I use a styling cream, it is mainly during the colder months. I also only stick most of the time to only using one product in my hair to style it with daily. I wash my hands alot, and I wash my bed clothing very often as well. daily. I also use hair oil very sparingly, and only on my scalp to help with the itching and flaking that I often have to deal with, with my scalp eczema. Plus, I am currently on Retin A and that is very helpful overall to my acne prone skin. I always make sure to wash my body and my face after I do my hair on my hair wash days. I don’t wash my hair in the shower, only at the sink. I used to wear a satin bonnet every night, after I found out about it being best fir curly girls to put on their head to protect their natural hair overnight, and would also sleep with a sayin pillowcase Due to it being super hot and humid in my local area since mid Sprung until now, I had to temporarily ditch wearing a aging bonnet because it causes me to feel more hot at night, so I just sleep on a satin pillowcase, only nowadays, and that has been working out fine for me.

Emma L: As an acne-prone Curly Girl I love your transparancy and that you show your real skin! Thanks for keeping it real and giving us the knowledge

janelle zavaleta: Hi Mell & Amanda! this video was so helpful, per usual! now I know what’s finally breaking me out since these are the only types of breakouts I experience. Now I have another question: On wash days, would it be best to wash my face right after the shower, or after I’m done with my diffusing + oils? Since according to the lab pics the products stay on your skin for hours after. Thank you so much for all the time & work you both put into helping us all achieve our best curls!

Jullyd: Thank you so much for this video. I sometimes wondered - why are there some new pimples on my face and body? And I never had my hair products in mind when I looked for the reasons. But it's kinda obvious now that I know that they do play a part in it next to stress, eating, sleeping, detergents etc. So thanks for the tipps. ☺️

Sara M.: I find that double cleansing really helps to clean the skin more effectively than just using a regular cleanser by itself . It got rid of most of my closed comedones.

Holly Lee: Wonderful wonderful video! Lots of awesome tips and tricks! Something I’ve noticed also that causes acne for me is eating food with sugar and oil. I find that avoiding food with these ingredients also help to clear my skin! Love your content so much!

GabbyFormando: Always have appreciated your videos Mel!! Because of you and Amanda I found out about Seen a few months ago. Their curly cream is amazing! Provides great definition whether used alone or paired with a gel! thanks so much!

Deanna: Happy Texture Tuesday!!! Hope your enjoying your vacation!!!! So needed this video!! I don't usually have a problem but it being summer and its been extremely hot I've been sweating alot more. Thanks so much for this!!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo!!

Stacey Ackerson: Thank you for this!!!! I have to be so careful with the hair products I use because of acne. I've finally found some that don't clog my pores. I LOVE Seen!! But it's expensive so I use Kristen Ess

Dora Mercedes: I figured out it was my haircare products when I was in high school. And I do a lot of what you suggest: I do my routine in the shower before washing my body and wrap my hair in a microfiber towel. I also do my skincare routine after my haircare routine. Also, it's easier because my hair is out of the way (in a it wrap).

Leah Gonzalez-Guzman: Happy Texture Tuesday Another treat to get us thru the week!!

Anita Gabriele: I just love texture Tuesday! You always brighten my day and make me laugh! Your tips for curls have helped me to love my curly hair! ❤️❤️

Emily: This was great. The content here is always popping. It’s great how much your curly hair tips just seem to break out everywhere. Your pun game is strong. Have you ever tried the Makeup Eraser? I noticed my acne actually improved because I could stop using makeup remover stripping my skin or having oil for waterproof stuff. I do follow up with my normal micellar water face wash though. The cloth is magic. I threw my best at it: metallic, waterproof eyeshadow put with a waterproof primer & setting spray. I can swim & it’s still on. It took it off with water. Just make sure it’s saturated. I like that one side exfoliates & one removes makeup. They make packs now of minis so they’re easier to use & great for the environment & my skin. Would you consider a part 2 of fragrance free? No Nothing brand has been working some for me, but it’s a little hard to navigate at times without a cream. I loved Seen, especially the no fragrance part. The cream is so nice. I never realized until you said it today. I’ve barely had any acne since I started sleeping in a bonnet. I also sleep better because my hair isn’t attacking me. Thanks for still working on vacation. I hope your voice is back soon.

Candace Mackintosh: I love the fact that you made a video about this, because not only I, but a bunch of my friends did not know that our hair products might be causing acne. Thank you both for these tips and I might have one more tip. It is simple but it does help...

Kelly Rice: Hi Mell. Thank you for the info. I’m struggling with scalp acne and an itchy scalp. I’ve been using T-Sal with a silicone scrubber for about 2 1/2 weeks and it hasn’t improved yet. Should I stop using all curl enhancing products until it clears up? And what type of deep conditioner would you recommend? I have 2c low porosity, fine/medium long hair. I’ve been using LUS 3 in 1 curl serum &/or Maui coconut curling soufflé. I’m looking at trying the “Seen” hair products you suggested. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Elisabeth Ochoa: As dumb as it sounds I’d love a mousse breakdown. Like some mousses are creamy, some are more like a light weight alternative to a gel, some are sticky (on my hair I’m just assuming they are way more dense and meant for high density/ high porosity hair) - I’m someone with fine low porosity hair so I love mousse BUT it turns out there’s so many subcategories of mousses and I learned the hard way they don’t all work for me

Nicola Eldridge: I applaud you Mel. Since I hit 40 (yes I’m old ) Iv suffered with Acne its very stressful to deal with, So thank you for this informative video and great tips. Thank f**k for textured Tuesday’s

La Gatita: Hi Mel great subject. Some products can def either clog your pores or cause allergic reactions. A lot of people break out from coconut oil. Sleeping with your hair back or a sleep cap def helps. I had cystic acne for years nut mine was due to messed up hormones. Nothing I tried worked not topical nor diet change. A little pill of estradiol and I have clear skin ...amazing.So I suggest if you've tried a lot of things to treat acne but it never i.proves along with oily skin get your hormones tested, ladies.

Neisha Patel: Hi Mel - I had pretty bad acne in the past. Not cystic, but consistent pimples between my eyebrows, upper cheeks and chin. I cleared it up with using retin-a for about 8 months. Started at the lower dose then worked my way up. My skin cleared completely and I haven't had any more breakouts. I stopped using the retin-a bc my face developed this glassy look which i found out was because my skin was over exfoliated and didn't need that much retin-a. After about a month of being off retin-a my skin normalized and was very clear without breakouts. I was worried the acne would come back but it didn't. Im guessing the reason is because I didn't have a good skin routine pre-retin-a, which was likely causing the acne as opposed to a hormonal or internal issue. Consider using it if you were like me and really frustrated with nothing else working. It is a process because you have to be very consistent every night and wait 15-45 minutes after washing your face to ensure your skin is completely dry to avoid irritation, but like with my hair journey, I stuck with it and am happy I did! Ance-free skin over here :) Oh and usually you have to see a dermatologist for a rx and when you first started using it your skin gets worse before it gets better. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Lisa Townsend: I am past the days of acne but I still love watching your videos Mell no matter what the topic is. I laughed thru out. "My crack" "Sebum like mebum" OMG you are awesome!!!!!!

MyLifeWithMarmalade: Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Particularly mechanical exfoliation (Wash cloth, brush, silicone scrubber) has been hugely helpful for me in keeping the acne under control. Also double cleansing. Life changing.

Ethel Salcido: Now that i started taking more care of my face this is soooo helpful ❤️ thank you so much Mell!! Also, is there any video or something related to Alcohols? Seems like people truly, deeply hates Isopropyl alcohol and i read something about it, but didn't understand that much. Still, thanks sooooo soooo much!!!

Jessica Chavez: Happy texture Tuesday! I usually wait until I'm done with my hair routine after it's been put up in a bonnet and start my skin care routine

Teresa: Happy Tuesday! ‍♀️ Salicylic acid is my homegirl for the pain in the acne situation! But it is so cool that SEEN is addressing the hair right next to yo face connection! ✌ Thank you for another awesome video!

cutebubbles2007: Hi Mell, do you mind reviewing these 2 products next ? K18 leave in molecular repair hair mask And the new line of redken acidic bonding concentrate (shampoo conditioner and leave in) apparently curly hair loves that formula. Thank you !

LV Adams-Flores: This totally makes sense why I have this random back acne thank u this video was so helpful and knowledgeable !

Kim Smith: I do my entire hair care routine in the shower and then when I’m done with my deep condition I rinse it out wrap my hair up and then I take my shower. That way I get everything off my body. When I’m putting in my hair products I always have a towel draped over my shoulders. And I rarely wear my hair down.

Lynzi Collins: Happy Texture Tuesday!! Thank you for the video, love you both ❤️❤️❤️

lydia y: I’ve noticed for me, if I use too much oil based product on my hair (like shampoo, gel, conditioner) my skin tends to break out more.

nn: Yes lately all my pimples are in the sides of my faces, near my eyes

Lauryn R.: I’ve been getting acne on the side of my head where my hair touches so I’ve been panicking trying to cut the amount of products I use to stop the head acne

hee hee: i started breaking out on my cheeks recently and couldn’t figure it out but now im 100% sure its my hair. Imma have to tape fabric on my cheeks or something bc when i put my hair back while wet it is just going to stay in that position for the next four days

Star 123: I would love for you to do a review on the Redken Acid Bonding Concentrate 3 part Shampoo, Conditioner, and Leave In. I can kinda understand the importance of correcting the pH of your hair, but then I when I looked on eBay to possibly buy a set, I saw it says the active ingredient is salicylic acid. Well, it IS acidic but that sounds scary for my already fragile bleached and curly hair. What does Mel say?

Holly Wardell: I am relatively new to your channel, but do you recommend anything that could help with hair loss? I switched product lines already, seeing some improvement, but not as much as I would like to...

callmecarm: I have skin sensitivity to coconut oil in most forms and I was getting these huge painful zits all over my body and along my hairline until I figured out that's what it was. I am now careful not to buy soaps with coconut oil but continue to buy hair products with it in it cuz my hair LOVES it. But yeah I shower after I do my hair stuff in the shower and wear a bonnet consistently and that's taken care of the problem. Still get a real big zit at the back of my neck ever so often tho.

Mary Allyson: Love your humor!! Thank you for the shared knowledge! ❤️❤️

Daisy Flores: Very informative. Never thought of the hair products causing blemishes. Just found out that the gel used on my hair caused a rash on my face

Patrick Wilson: hey mel gl with the acne, do you have any recommendations for scalp psorasis? My mother whos 87 started getting scalp psorasis on one area of her scalp about a year ago any thoughts on how to get rid of it?

7 7: Eliminating coconut oil in your haircare products has reduced my acne by 100% !!! Coconut and shea butter can clog some peoples pores (professional esthetician)

ComaLies225: I’m rather thankful I get little to no breakouts on my face (my back is a different story lol) but I have to wash my face after styling. The residue of my hair products does leave it a bit greasy afterwards

Milly Tremblay: Been to the doc twice with itchy itchy skin and an itchy bump on my cheek.. I was wondering if my mousse was causing it. Thank you for this one.

Marie: Mell have you tired pimple patches? They work like a charm. You are so beautiful and so is Amanda I do have acne prone skin but I've been learning how to take care of it so I get less breakouts I have been made fun of because of my acne but I just don't give a shit now

nicole tzingounakis: I get pimples on the back of my head near the neck area. They are not comedogenic but they sometimes become worse by the hair products I use. I use Psoriasin every so often and it works great.

Rachel Levy: I used to rinse my hair in the sink, but I've found that it just made it harder to work with. What I've started to do, is put my conditioner on my hair, then tie my hair back into a bun, do my acne wash, then let my hair down, and rinse the whole thing together, from there once I'm out of the shower I put a robe on or towel around my shoulders to prevent my hair from touching my back. So far I think it's working for me, we shall see in a few months from now. Finger crossed that my acne scars go away!

Sophia Aloeristok: I always learn so much from you ❤️

Ciara Rozet: I definitely had the problem at the beginning when I put hella coconut oil in my hair back in the dizzle.

Nicole Langford: Oh my gosh… I just realized I only started getting acne when I started wearing my hair wavy/ curly

konstancja74: Yup, it's taken lots of years before I read that my hair product may cause the acne on my back.

Elizabeth Morrison: Castor oil especially if it's really high in the ingredient list makes me breakout. I've found castor oil and keratin break me out. I assume those because all the other ingredients are in my other hair care products and I don't break out. But it never fails that they break me out.

Takara Sights: Very helpful, thank you. I’d love to see a video about how you’d style your hair to wear a bike helmet. I want to ride more but I struggle. I used to never wear a helmet but I know it’s important for life-preserving purposes

Flor Delgado: I wish the hair oils did for me what it does for you, Mell. In my case it does the total OPPOSITE! Breaks my cast and FRIZZ GALORE!! Any tips?

Melissa Clark: I've noticed so many cute headbands. Also I've noticed some really hair dos using headbands too. Just the other day I seen a teenager with a headband(the ones from ear to ear) and she had so many cute scarves tied onto it. Not so many that they flopped in front of face. She had them tied or wrapped in a way where the scarves flowed back and away from face. IDK how she did it. I didn't have time to ask her either. I tried looking online and have seen videos but they didn't quite turn out exactly like her headband looked.

Jessica Galyon: Hey y’all. Do your hair. Put it up. Apply a thin layer of panoxyl on back.. chest. Face. Wherever you have problems leave on for 1 minute. Gently massage for a couple seconds then rinse. It cleanses product from hair off skin & has BPO to kill any acne bacteria. It cured my daughters back acne in a week.

meliemarie: I find that for me, the inkey list fulvic acid cleanser on my face and then a moisturizer with ahas keeps the bumps down on my forehead and temples (my big problem areas)

Sam F.S: Yep, the JBCO on my neck, pfffffffff But! Haven't had them in a while because I stopped sleeping with the prepoo material on my hair

Heatherr Niicole: Yeah good old backne now I'll finish my hair in the shower then wash my back and shoulders once the hair is tied up.

Mariam Abbas: Thank u mell , i'am struggiling with acnen and i didn't know it was form the hair product untill i watched the video Thank u very much mell you saved me ❤❤ Love u so much form brazil ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Iffa: The pink she’s moisture leave in gives me acne in a second though the castor leave in is perfect for me ‍♀️

Hilary: I switched from ogx to 100 pure products and my SCALP acne is gone. Thank goodness

Shirlee Ortiz: The video ive been waiting for ❤ thanks mel!

Diana Robles: I don’t seem to have acne on my face but I feel them on my scalp.. any suggestions for that?

Mary Margaret Suchiang: I always put something like the microfiber towel or satin-silk cloth around my neck while applying curly hair products(stylers) and while air drying or diffusing until my hair is dry then I take them out. But for my face I usually wipe or wash the product off..after keeping my hair off my face then only I apply my face product.

Man Da: Haha Mel you Crack me up !!!! I have been waiting for this video! Thank you soo much!

Swavy Blonde: That's the reason I started washing my hair upside down, can't stand hair products to be on my skin. Noticed quite early that many hair products do give me acne. But also cleansing my skin twice a day have helped a lot!

Priscila Bee: Yay for fragrance free products!!!!

SneakerTeacher89: My hair stylist stopped using Deva Curl.. not because of damage that was going around but because it was giving her back acne.

Lily_of_the_Forest: I’m allergic to coconut so all those rich creams and gels made my skin very irritated.

Amanda Gareis: I don't have acne, but I noticed that I can't use most leave-ins. First of all my low porosity hair is very prone to build-up, so I'm actually better off without leave-in. And secondly most leave-ins trigger a very uncomfortable itching. I come from a family who is prone to allergies and I suspect perfume or plant extracts trigger the itching when my hair touches my skin, especially while I air-dry. For that reason I switched to scent-free products for everything.

B: Literally!! I had kerastase dandruff shampoo then i switched to kerastase curl manifesto and started using avocado oil on my hair. And all the suddent i started getting now pimples on my sideburns and all over the face! Im so upsett. I feel like its maybe the both of them that is causing this. Im not sure what should i do should i keep using the shampoo every other week and buy the dandruff. I like to shampoo but don’t like that it gives me acne n i used it just few times don’t wanna throw it. And the annoying part is when u want to try new stuff and buy new skincare product, hair, foundation. And then u have to try to figure out which one is causing it. May be one or few of them

Bee Contrera: intro : mel trying not to scare us ! you got us!

Narayani Ji: Hi, does anyone know and like the Evolvh brand line of haircare? I love the Seen brand, but their curl cream is too heavy for my fine hair. Any advice on styles for fine hair that gets weighed down easily?

Francine Smith: I just wash my face after styling my hair. Also started using a body wash with charcoal and bye-bye back-ne.

Bettina Green: I couldn't use anything that contains Coconut Oil it always broke me out no matter how much i try to avoid it touch my skin. But then i get it on my scalp lol. Last time from a curl cream. So i just stop buying products with it. I use a new pillowcase every two days, new towel everyday, no hair products on the body in the shower I put my head down to wash them. Cleanse my phone often and wash hands. And just try to touch my skin only while my skincare Routine. I put a silicone mask with serum under it on my face on washday while i style my hair to avoid touching it.

Devorex Minn: thanks for making this at such a good time

luciboop51: Hydrocolloid patches may work for acne

Kaity Miller: Mell, what do you think about the Eva•Nyc Split End Mender? Can you do a review?! Does it really work?! Can something really help mend split ends?!

Michelle K: Suggestion: look into fast hair growth fortified shampoo to double hair growth.

Melissa C: You (and her ) are the BEST thing Ive ever found on theTube

winniebear: I have a question. Does shea moisture shampoo cause acne? I have started using one recently and my acne has gotten worse for some reason T^T

Stephen Minor: Another tip is to use a desperate towel for your body, hair and face. It keeps all the products where they need to be!

Photos On A Roll: Can you talk about tips to solve flat roots for curly/wavy hair

Nicole Taylor: Cantu coil curl cream causes my sons forehead to break out so bad!! any idea what he could use instead?
