Hi, my name is mackenzie and welcome back to my channel. So today we're going to be talking about co-washing and everything you need to know. So. Co-Washing stands for conditioner, only washing or just conditioner, washing so essentially you're, just washing your hair with conditioner and skipping out on the shampoo step. What you should be asking yourself is: are you a candidate for co-washing people who are candidates for co-washing, have dry hair, relaxed, hair, wavy, hair, colored, hair and curly hair? I would not suggest co-washing if you have fine straight hair, because this would tend to weigh your hair down, because co-washing is a way to keep natural oils in your hair. Now you curly, hair girls, know that natural oils are super important for our hair. Our natural oils don't always make it to the end of our hair because of our coils and texture. So it is important to try to keep the natural oils in our hair as long as possible so that they can eventually reach the ends, and this is what co-washing helps because shampooing strips your hair of the natural oils we do co-washing instead, so we can still Have that clean, scalp and that clean hair, but all of our natural oils remain in our hair. If you have thick curly hair, i would suggest using a daily conditioner or you can also use a co-washing conditioner, but daily conditioners do work for you guys, because your hair is so thick. It probably tends to be a little bit drier and that conditioner can really saturate your hair and daily conditioners tend to be a little heavier and more moisturizing. So you would want that for your hair, but if you are going to use a daily conditioner, you want to avoid conditioners that have ingredients such as silicone in them and dimethicone. So any ingredients that end with cone. You want to try to avoid if you have thin hair, you want to stick to co-washing products that are for co-washing down below. I will be listing a whole bunch of co-washing conditioners that you can pick up pretty much anywhere and the way that these co-washing conditioners clean our hair is with natural ingredients such as a gentle detergent or aloe vera. So let's get into the steps. So the first step i like to do when co-washing is actually do a mask on my hair. I probably will do a mask once a month, but a mask for me helps with the detangling, i'm not a very good finger detangler. So when i put a mask in my hair, it really softens my hair and really helps me to pull my hair apart into sections. So my favorite mask is this shea moisture 10-1 renewal mask and i like to just make sure that my hair is saturated with water and i like to start from root to tip just coating, my hair with the mask after i'm done, coating my hair with the Mask i will twist it up into like a little twist on top of my head and i'll be placing a shower cap on and leaving that on for 30 minutes. The directions do say that you can leave it on for five minutes, but i like to do it for 30 minutes just to get the most of it that i can so after waiting for 30 minutes, we can go into step two so for step, two i'll Hop into the shower - and i will saturate my hair until it is completely wet. This will kind of rinse the mask out at the same time, but this is where i can now separate my hair into sections and start detangling. Now from here. You can either finger detangle if that's your preference or you can use a wide tooth comb. So i will take my hair into six different sections on each side of my head and i'll just comb out each section with the wide tooth comb and then i will twist it and put it off to the side and work on the next section. After my hair is detangled and it is sectioned off, i will take my co-washing conditioner, so i don't use a co-washing specific conditioner. I actually just use this shea moisture conditioner that i absolutely love, and i take that and in each section i'll put about two quarter sizes in my hand and i'll start from the top and put it down into the tips of my hair, making sure that each Section of my hair has the same amount of product and is well coated, make sure you spend extra attention on the ends of your hair, because that tends to be the driest part of curly hair. So after i have the conditioner in my hair, i like to leave it in there for three to five minutes. So, while i'm waiting for those three to five minutes i'll either wash my body shave do all that stuff and then i'll also take my favorite. I call it a scalp scraper and i will massage this on my scalp to make sure that i'm getting up all of that week's buildup of product off of my scalp and making sure that my scalp is clean and fresh. It feels so good. So i'll just take it and i will work it around my head. If you do not have a scalp, scraper or a scalp massager, then just use your fingers. It works exactly the same. Try not to dig into your scalp with your nails! More so use your fingertips and massage thoroughly through your entire head. The next step is to rinse your hair when you're rinsing your hair, make sure that you are rinsing it with cold water and flip my head upside down, and make sure that i get all of the conditioner off of my scalp, because that can cause itchiness and Build up so i make sure that i get the nape of my neck and make sure that all the conditioner is out of that area so that my scalp is very clean. The next step is to get out of the shower and style like normal. I will be linking my in-depth curly hair routine above so that you guys can check it out and see how i actually style my hair once it is detangled, i go through all the steps from detangling into styling um. You guys can check out that video. If you guys want to see how i get my hair like this, my products are always changing, but the way i style my curls is pretty much the same, so you guys will get a good in-depth view of what i do in my curly hair routine. If you click that link above now, some of you guys are probably wondering: when do you shampoo or how often do you co-wash, i would say to co-wash one to two times a month or as needed, depending on your hair type. So if you work out or sweat like me, then i like to typically co-wash my hair once a week, because i don't like my hair to stink and i want to get all that sweat out and that product out. So i like to do it once a week or as i feel needed, sometimes i don't sweat as much or sometimes i feel like my hair is fine. Then i won't do it. It'S really on an as needy basis. I feel like, as i've mentioned in a lot of my videos, i do only wash my hair with shampoo once a month um. I do not like using shampoo because it does strip your hair of natural oils. I do feel like you could actually eliminate the shampoo step altogether, but i do like to use it because sometimes i feel like my hair just needs a good strip of everything and i need to start over because a product build up that the co-washing doesn't necessarily Wash out or if there's hairspray in my hair or anything like that, so typically, it is once a month that i will shampoo my hair. Remember when you do shampoo your hair to make sure that it is a sulfate free shampoo. This will help eliminate that stripping of the oils in your hair and it will protect your hair from getting brittle and dry. So i will also link below my favorite sulfate free shampoos, down below that work wonderfully, and i hope that just helps you guys out a little bit. If you guys have any questions, don't forget to comment below, don't forget to like this video and hit that subscribe button. If this was helpful to you and i'll see you guys in my next video

Boob Face: YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS EXPLAINED CO-WASHING!! THANK YOU!!!!! A lot of you tubers assume we know what it means! I have been searching for a while now lol thank you!! Definitely subscribed!

Tracy Smiles: I like how she gets straight to the video

Eugene Jennings: She looks like a baby doll Beauty at its finest

Consciousness: usually i have to skip the first 3 mins of a video. You got straight to the point! Thankyou! Brilliant!

NaniTheVirgo: I just went natural a couple months ago maybe in October? && I am learning day by day but you just broke it down perfectly! Thank you so much. You have gained a new subscriber I look forward to continuing my journey with your help

Tingeltangel Moni: Thank you for this video! It really helps a lot for beginners. I've been co washing for a few years now, using shampoo only when I feel like it's necessary, and that's super seldom. Unfortunately, getting curl friendly products in Germany is the biggest challenge. There are hardly any shops to buy them online, you always have to import products, although little by little special online shops are starting their businesses here. And speaking of stores in town, there's nothing out there. They used to have Cantu, but now you really have to be lucky to get what you need for your hair. As a 3b, high/normal porosity girl, this is the biggest challenge here Anyways, I loved the video! Lots of love ☺️

Ally Ockenden-Kemp: Thank you for explaining it step by step I am looking to co wash as I have coloured hair that I straighten all the time but looking to try and embrace by curls again

Ana Leota: First time I watch a video that co- washing is well explained , Thank you! You got beautiful hair Looks so healthy. #Goals

charissa de rooy: Hiii Kenzie , is it bad if I leave a bit of the conditioner in my hair at the end of my co-wash? Or could doing that not allow my hair to get the full benefits of my leave-in products...? I love the vid btw!! xx ❤

Courtney LaBree: Very helpful and your curls look beautiful! New Sub! :)

Laylah Osman: watched a ton of these co-washing vids and this is the best one so far!

Paigeicalz Filmz: Do you know how often you should shampoo and co-wash hair if it’s high porosity and transitioning? Great video btw ✨

Justine Horton: This is my dream haircut. My hair naturally shrinks more in the front so all I really need to do is grow my hair out. I like coconut oil as a "mask" because it helps with protein loss in the hair.

Operation WOLF: Thank you for this! Not only did I find this video very informative but you are very well spoken! I have dreads and wash my hair about once a month.... I needed something for inbetween and wasn't sure on how to properly use a CoWash or if it was right for me. instructions on CoWash products are very vague. Thank you for the post :) "Hearts, Kisses, Roses" emojis (I'm old)

Khoza: your hair is soooo pretty! i just subscribed i love your hair omg! lol

wumbos: You are so pretty!! Your eyes are so big and beautiful I'm definitely going to try your method out!

Karla P Barajas: Hi beautiful. I love your video. I am brand new to the co-washing. I will start trying it out soon. I wash my hair once a week, with shampoo and use conditioner. After the shower, I only apply leave-in conditioner to style. My question to you is: after co-washing, can I continue to use my leave-in conditioner to style? Thanks so much

Vicki Harmon: I bought some co-wash at a black expo but have not used it because I didn't understand what it was used for. Thanks to you, I now know.

Kisha Sime: When your washing your hair or after you’re done, how do you make the ends feel less stuff?

Catherine Perez: Thank you for this video It was really helpful

Dayyani Morris: Taught me well

fairy: Her eyes are so big and beautiful

Bree B: I kind of make a home made Co Wash by taking a little bit of shampoo & light weight conditioner & mix them together, my hair's too dry for regular shampoo but not dry enough for just conditioner

curlycocoanut: Hey! Love the video, but I noticed the Carol's Daughter Co-wash contains Dimethicone!

Kamryn Abrial: Wow, you're so pretty with or without makeup

Morgan Marie: How do you combat scalp oil for not showering often? I shower every 2 days and my oil gets so bad by day two.

Polly: Is a deep conditioner different from hair masque?

Stacedogg Kyles: Kenzie you your family and your friends you all have a wonderful fantastic awesome bless safe beautiful day wherever you are enjoy the rest of your day god bless you all ❤

Tanya Sawhney: Do you only co wash or do you use normal shampoo and conditioner also sometimes?

Emely Fuentes: You are so beautiful wth!! I have curly hair and big eyes too. You just look like a baby doll. I look like a weird owl with poodle hair ❤️ so blessed and beautiful. Instantly subscribed

BunnyJanie: I love using co washes on my hair !

Iris: I love your curly hair I had to subscribe!

mylifeiscool 101: How often should i co wash if my hair is like a 3a?

Giselle P: What if you have super curly hair but a super oily scalp either methods are too moisturizing or too drying or not enough of both. Idk what to do

Ashley G: I want to start cowashing. My sister does it and her hair is gorgeous. I’m just having an issue getting started. What kind of transition period am I looking at? I have fine curly hair, but I have a lot of it. Please help!

uh hi: your bangs are so pretty! i really want bangs and i have 3b hair, should i get them?

Kayliz Colon: Finallyyyyyy someone with the same. Curly hair type ❣️❣️ New subscriber

Belle Niiut: I use carols daughter shampoo its smells amazing!!!!!! I bought the SheaMoisture Coconut Hibiscus i think for a more cheap prize i could have a better and more oz but sometime im really stupid and get excited to try a famous brand. I try the curls smoothie with the same line and its help me with my frizz so that why i bought the coconut hibiscus cowash. But maybe the next is the is i am or eden. i hear good review about them. I have a dry hair and a bit damaged. I will try the cowash method. (sorry for my english)

Prismarexie: Great and useful video!! But i have a question....If you wash your hair with shampoo once a month and you do the same with the co wash....what do you do in the with your hair the other days? Your hair does not smell bad?.

Lucia Lucia: Beautiful

Khoza: and its very informative!

Heather Raymo: Do your wrap your hair? What's your morning routine?

marwa ismael: i workout 6 times a week should i cowash my hair once a week only and wash it another day at the same week with shampoo?

Bcurlee Entertainment: To anybody watching in 2020, that hair masque got discontinued so it’s like 40 and really hard to find

Lexi Horton: I know this is probably a stupid question, but I’m trying to get my hair to grown longer and healthier. I understand how much I should wash my hair and when to. But on a daily when I shower I wet my hair and just brush it out while I’m in the shower. Then when I get out I put my Cantu product in. But when I see people do their hair videos they put detangle product in their hair. As if they don’t wet their hair while they shower

Gracie & Addy: Okay so, In the morning, I de-tangle my hair by washing it in the sink using conditioner.. is that okay/is there a better way to do it?

Sara Ibrahim: Great explanation. Thank you. May I know what your lipstick is?

4evercurliegurlie: Where can we get a scalp scratcher!? That looks amaze!

Anna Franca: I’m definitely subscribing

Slushie: UGH!! Having curly hair is soo exhusting!

Sasha Griffith: Just out of curiosity, why did you choose that order: mask then co-wash? Does it make a difference if it is done in the reverse?

wrenwren: I got a question can we use the hair conditioner "whole blends"?

Rebecca Johnson: So I don't have to put deep or leave-in conditioners afterwards right?

almighty god: everyone is telling me to wash my hair with cold water but that just makes my haur frizz out

Anita Dilara: omggggg you´re gorgeous !!

Agustina Maria: Sorry for the dumb question how many times do you wash-cowash your hair? Only once a week? The rest of the days you don t touch your hair at all in the shower? how does this works at the end? I have curly hair and I wash it with normal shampoo and conditioner everyday and it is extremely dry so I wanted to try the cowash method. Can you please give me the name of the products you use or good products you would recommend? Thanks !

Tamara Cotto: how do you do it for dandruff?

Sara Vasquez: i have thick 2b/2c, i’m gonna go buy the not your mothers natural shampoo & conditioner today. is it okay if i wash one day & just condition the next two days ? i tried refreshing & it doesn’t work for me
