Was good everybody? I have formulated the ultimate summer, routine, a routine that you don't have to dream about, because this one is actually fast, affordable, easy, peasy, lemon squeezy and everything you need in order to make your curls mask. So if things are going to be heating up for you - and you want to be looking hot this summer - then keep watching this video and let's get to it - we recall my winter routine and then my springtime routine in these past two videos, where I'm talking about The seasons and the weather, I explained the importance of taking a look at the back of the bottle and investigating the ingredients that you're putting into your hair, not because it's disapprove than that approved, and this is bad for you, and this is gon na kill. You know we look at the back of the ingredients, because certain ingredients react differently in our hair depending on the weather. This is a very important thing to consider when styling your hair, but it is absolutely not the only thing to consider and you'll see what I mean when I get to that. But one thing you have been asking me is for an affordable, haircare routine because, let's be real, curly hair products, ain't cheap, especially the really good ones. So I made my way over to my local Walmart. If we took a look at my receipts here, hey everybody. This is my walmart receipt. I spent all of 20 dollars. This is Canadian dollars eight on three curly air products, and these are the ones that I got one a mask, slash, deep conditioner. You need a cruel cream, slash styler and three, a gel. Don'T forget the gel okay now these products, if they don't seem familiar to you or from dippity-do dippity-do, has been around for a very long time now, back in the day when I was using dippity-do gel, it was not for the curls, but now they have a Curly hair care line, so I decided to pick it up, give it a try so right in my hair, I already have the treatment mask in which I've left in for a lot longer than the 3 to 5 minutes that it says, but I'm going to rinse This up now, okay, perfect! So now I'm Lynn stout. It feels very soft, very silky, it's very important to make sure that you are using deep treatments because what's happening in the summer, especially if you are spending a lot of time in the Sun is, it is getting even more dried out. Our hair is naturally dry and it's drying out as our skin dries out. So does our hair. So we need to be replenishing that moisture when we are washing our hair next thing in my very wet hair, I'm going to be working through there curl defining cream. Now, looking at the back of the bottle, first ingredient is water. That'S good water moisturizes, our hair. Now the second ingredient is glycerine glycerine, as I've discussed previously, is a humectant that can also moisturize the hair hello. What is this Renu long story short as we can see when the temperatures are above 16 degrees or 60 degrees, when it is getting hot and when it is getting humid or dry? You'Ve got to be careful with humectants, so this is very high in humectants, when you use high humectants a lot of humectants like glycerine in these high temperatures. You want to be careful, because if there is a lot of moisture in the air like you're in really humid climates well, then the humectants may cause too much moisture attention to your hair, which can make your hair seem really poofy and frizzy. And if it's bringing too much moisture in your hair, it can actually do harm, as in your cuticle, will start to swell because there's too much moisture. But the benefit of using this is I'm also going to be using their curl jelly, which, when I check the ingredients there, there is no glycerin. So this is gon na cut the glycerin that's in that product. So I'm not really too stressed, though now I'm really gon na work on defining. So I will be taking sections on my hair and just because you're taking sections haier haier does not mean it's got to be a long, lengthy process. Okay, so I'm taking half of my head, I will make sure that I have lots of water and I will also make sure that I have enough product and now I'm gon na make sure my hair is thoroughly defined the fastest way to define the hair. I find is by brushing through the product which I love to do with the Denman brush, so make sure that your hair is detangled, and so you get through your hair really fast I'll. Take this 1 inch thick vertical long sections and start at the root and comb outwards. Another important note is that, even though this product is very high in glycerin, which is a humectant, it is also very rich in emollients. Now also, as previously discussed, the benefit of emollients is that they can actually help to seal in moisture in the hair. So now that I'm working through the curl cream / styler, I am really saturating these through my hair, when I'm using the Denman brush. Now I could either use the Denman brush or I can finger coil. That is a personal preference, but what is absolutely key is that you are working through your products really well and defining your curls now, so they have. The fortitude. Defined curls will be able to last longer also take note of how I'm brushing I'm always brushing off of my head with a little bit of a curve to help curl the curl at the end, so boom nice and defined. This took all of three minutes to brush through which is very fast and very effective and very realistic in the summer when we don't want to be spending a whole lot of time on your hair, especially since in the summer you're, probably washing your hair. A lot more often as well. This leads me to my next point that I will explain as I put through the gel: let's go the gel showing please. Oh, my god. I leave my hair pink. It'S very thick jelly! That'S for sure very good! I'M going to crab hands this through my hair gently, covering the outside grounds to protect and seal in the moisture and give them the hold. So, as I was saying in the summer, you're probably washing your hair more, you don't have to feel guilty about this. As long as you're doing it correctly, you should be washing your hair more if one you are sweating more and two. If you are spending time underwater, whether that be a pool the ocean or the lake, if you're spending a lot of time in the water, you want to make sure that your hair is nice and cleanse. You don't want to be leaving salt water in your hair and chlorine if you're spending a lot of time in pools, your god, you need to be washing that out, because chlorine is a bleach and if you're wondering why suddenly, your color goes brassy in the summer, While all these things are happening, yeah, it's not just the Sun, it's the pools that you're swimming in shampoo. There are specific shampoos that help to remove mineral build-up, but if you're not and you're, just someone that you know perspires a lot throughout the summer. I encourage you to alternate your washes with co-washing, which will conditioning ly wash your hair that will keep the moisture but also get rid of the dirt, the sweat the dust. So that's just my spiel on washing your hair. No hmm! Now that I'm styled! Do you air drying the summer or do you defuse now? I don't on vacation - and I tested this theory because here in Canada I may not have you know, mmm the experiences that many of you may have, but I tested air drying hair because I thought, when I want make a it's a lot hotter outside. I could go out. My hair would dry faster and I'd be good, but you know what I was left with: four is undefined curls, wet flat roots and then puffy ends not your ideal style. How can you combat this well, my answer to that is actually by not air drying yeah, I know. Sometimes it seems so easy. You want to just get up and go, but if you really want your hair to be defined, you can't be air drying in humid climates. This may seem absolutely crazy in the summer because you could be thinking exactly what I was thinking. You know it's hot outside you go outside, it's gon na be faster and easier to dry out there, but no, if you're in a hot and humid climate and you step outside to dry. What do you think is gon na happen, you're in moist conditions, and you think your hair is gon na dry. Well, it will not dry faster. It will be easier because you get to skip diffusing, but there's so much moisture in the air which is gon na bring a lot of moisture into your hair and too much moisture again is going to cause that cuticle to swell which is going to give you Puffy hair and can actually lead to damage from the raised cuticle, so you need to seal that cuticle. You want to finish off your hair with the diffuser before you step outside. Okay. Let'S take a look at the situation: okay, even after diffusing, which tends to soften up the cast and the hold from the gel there's still a little bit of a light, bold cast, which is definitely something you want and need in the summer. And typically, if it's very hot outside - and I want my hair to last - I'm not gon na scrunch out the crunch. Whatever hold is in here, I'm going to leave to give the hair a little extra fortitude within the elements, and the last thing that you need to do for your hair before you go back out into the Sun is to protect it. Like you do your skin. We don't go out into the Sun without sunscreen out. Do we no and our hair needs sunscreen too so product they've been using is actually from bumble and bumble. This is the e, be curled luminous oil spray, which has UV filters, so I do like to either just spritz it over my hair or if I do want to be scrunching out the cast, what you still can do. I will just spray it on my hands, go to sprays and I will glide this over top of my hair, which is moisturizing. So this you can continue to do throughout the week and to refresh your curls in the morning to give a little extra life to them. Nonetheless, though, this has been a pretty easy wash day and it's a and it's pretty good results so for first impressions. What do I say about this very affordable wash day, definitely doable and good for the summer good for a vacation good for times when you know know, you're gon na be eating a lot of product, and you don't really have the funds to be spending all the Money that you own on hair product, my results were really defined when they were wet, and here we aren't really defined when it's dry so thumbs up to this affordable, haircare, routine, I'll, put the links to these products below and to close off this video. I'M going to, of course, shout out our comments of the week chastity. I also wish that you live in Canada and question of the week is coming from Krystal. She wants to know if she can sleep with the old flex treatments overnight for deep conditioning. You absolutely can what's great about old flex. Is you can't really overdose on it, but keep in mind it's not gon na be moisturize your hair. It'S just rebuilding the bonds. I hope that answers your question and any other questions you guys have make sure you comment them below and you may just be featured at the end of next week's video. What is next week's video we're gon na be well you'll, just have to watch and see make sure you are subscribed for more content like this, because if you put out new videos every week that, as always thank you guys for watching stay cool this summer, we'll See you guys next week, peace Sun is out and I'm feelin. Shastidy Moustakas: Definitely needed this since my husband was nice enough to point out to me the other day while we were at a BBQ that my hair got "bigger" from the humidity . Thank you!!!!

Yanire Mahabirsingh: I soooooo needed to watch this video!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I am 53 years old ans JUST RECENTLY learned there was such a thing as a curly hair regimen. Janel Vazquez: Your videos have helped me to embrace my hair so much your bubbly and funny personality combined with your informative and educated information has taught me not to just follow fads but to actually look into ingredients. With that being said I would love if you made a summer routine for those that live in a dry climate. I'm from the desert and our summers are not humid at all just hot and dry and I'd love to know what stuff to look for in that case. Keep up the amazing work

Charissa Johnson: LOVE this video ! Off to buy a hair dryer lol been battling 99 degree heat with 80-90 percent humidity and I have had fluffy ends, flat roots, and zero definition in my curls. I thought I was going crazy. Nope. Mel just saved me !

Amber Lynn: I have literally learned SO much from you! I started my journey about 10 months ago and at first almost gave up until I found this channel. I got a SUPER bad hair cut because where I live there’s literally like 4 salons and that’s it and no one really understands natural hair. I went in knowing a little about the cutting process but definitely not enough!! The stylist used thinning shears and added texture and I wasn’t aware that it happened until it was too late (and I went to a stylist in a different city) So in my panic trying to fix my hair and wait for it to grow back I found this channel and it has saved me!!! so thank you SOOOOOO much for taking the time to teach us these amazing things!! ❤️❤️

Reservechic: Totally blown away by just how super gorgeous your curls look! They look truly perfect in every way!

Violet Polack: I love that you review non salon brands. Some many stylists including my current stylist say you can only use salon brands. Not everyone can afford salon brands.

Daniela *: I am a new subscriber and I just wanted to say that I have learned SO MUCH from you already!!! Today I followed all your instructions and got the best hair day I've ever had!! I cannot thank you enough

Sunshine ☀️: I love this routine!! Thank you for sharing your experience with this line ❤️

Yo! G: Informative AND entertaining! Your vids always make me laugh. The hot weather is going to turn my hair into fire head; hopefully with your tips, I can avoid this.

Jessica McManus: Thank you Mell, this video came just in time. I'm about to visit my husbands family in Mexico for 5 weeks and they live in a very hot city that gets up to 40 plus degrees celcius so this video was very handy. One thing I was looking forward to was air drying but after you saying about the humidity I realise I may be better off diffusing

Bunny: I was lazy this morning and air dried my curls and they look G R O S S. I needed this video yesterday, Mell!

Joy 4: Thank you so much for the tips ! Currently transitioning my hair. Love your personality as well I’m on my lunch break cracking up

Helen Kerins: This is awesome! I never paid attention to that line. I'm going back to curly hair this week and needed to pick up good but affordable products. Your channel rocks!!

aleisha mcdonell: Binge watching your video's all week! What a great personality both you and your sister have! Would love to see a favourite products video!

Kristen Bellows: Oh yay!!! I'm so happy with this routine and can't wait to try it! I recently switched over to the curls with curls gelee and love it!

Lindsfein: You are so funny! Do your sister's summer routine next. You guys are the best together! :)

Amy Boomer: I have learned so much from you already. I have 2 curly hair daughters and I've been searching for a while for the right hair products for my 3yr old curly/coily fine frizzy hair. I've been using just conditioner a lot to style her hair because I've just been so lost with all the different products. I've also bought products that I had an allergic reaction to, and a different product my daughter had an allergic reaction to. Now that I understand more about different conditioners and layering. I'm excited to try more products that will work for her hair. Thank you for helping a slightly wavy hair mom have more clarification on curly hair products.

Dana Ritenour: I always had natural wave hair. But after cemo it came back in very dry and curly. FRIZZZZ is awful. I've tried coconut oil, argon oil, creams, gels, moose. Still lots of FRIZZ. But now after watching your videos, I realize I was doing it all wrong. A HUGE THANK YOU!!! You saved me from FRIZZ.

Rafael Reyes: I live in Puerto Rico and I air-dray all the time and my hair is drying flawlessly now that I’ve learned some of your tips. The trick is to air dry inside the house. Not outside in the hot, humid, windy and sunny climate lol.

Amanda Alonso: This is awesome!! I’ve been using this gel since January and I was not expecting you to ever use it!! I’m so mind blown right now! THIS GEL NEVER LETS ME DOWN ❤️ AND NEITHER DOES THE DENMAN BRUSH WHICH I USE EVERY WASH DAY

Jazzmine Sorrell: I too wish I lived in Canada so that you could be my hair stylist! I just started watching you a couple of weeks ago and have already learned so much! I didn’t use these specific products, but I paid more attention to the ingredients in the products I am using and MY HAIR HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER! Thank you for being so amazing and getting on here to do these videos to not only teach us, but you are funny and entertaining! ❤️❤️ much love from Texas ✌️

Kathy Masci: Thanks for all your tips! I learn so much from you! Never again air drying!

xvanyrocks: mell's hair STAYS poppin - yes queen!! thank you!!

Mirina XO: Ah that’s great.. I literally am just learning how to deal with my curly (very long to my knees) hair and I just bought those products! But I don’t know what order so thank you ❤️

Matthew Demetrio: Can u please do a video about how to protect your hair when swimming in pools/lakes/oceans with certain hairstyles and using certain products? This would be very helpful for the people who swim a lot. Maybe u can test certain hair products and hairstyles in a pool. This would be a nice experiment

Linette Arroyo: I’m so glad I found your channel! Your diffusing video has helped my curls so much! Can you make a video with tips on how to refresh curls for someone who works out often (like 5-6 days a week)? My hair ends up so wet and frizzy from the sweat.

Alessandra Silva: I have learned a lot with your videos, now is near the winter here but I will use these tips next summer ❤️

portgree: This is exactly what I needed! Thanks so much! Going to Walmart tomorrow. :) (I'm in southern Ontario too. Way too humid in the summer.)

itsMelanie: Love your channel! Great vid as always! Could you maybe do a vid with more tips on how to best preserve your curls during summer holiday?

GG Pink: ALWAYS look forward to getting my MBM new video notification! Another awesome one Thanks!

Amber Abbott-Farr: So excited to try this over summer! This was very helpful, and very useful to learn that diffusing is still needed over summer! Is Olaplex okay to use on dark hair for a treatment?

Arabia from Mam-America: Hi love ! So proud of myself as I ordered the oil B& B spray to protect my hair from the sun I also go their leave on cream to go with the spry. I am await for Aveda’s gel to use it.

Anasta Anam: I love you! Seriously! I've learned so much more about my own hair from you sense i found your channel, than i have in my 38 years of life with it! LoL! THANK YOU!

Pat Hollett: Another fabulous video. Thank you Mell! Nice to know there are some cheaper alternatives too.

Minna Uyeda: I love your educational videos. I’m new to the process of switching to my natural 3a curls. Are we ever supposed to put product in soaking wet hair? Are we crazy supposed to plop after product is on our hair? I’ve seen both done.

Raezheen Pascua: WOW, this video just changed my life. I’m always trying to air dry my hair (I live in Hawaii) and it always comes out the way you’re describing

MONET: Hey mell! Do you ever have to stretch your hair (because of shrinkage), and how do you preserve the curls while sleeping?

Lauren Latta: Mell: "you don't go out into the sun w/o sunscreen do you?!" Me: *watching this w/ sunburn* Oh

Hana Chuang: i used gel with propylene glycol in it today and i went outside before my hair could dry in humid nyc summer heat and my hair wasn’t frizzy at all like i expected. have never been so proud of my hair in my life

Глаша SAW: Where have you been all this time, Mell? You're such a godsend for the curly community. Thank you!

Stefanie Blanche: Would love to see a Curlsmith and Bouncecurl Routine!!! Do you think the Curlsmith Oil in Cream could be good option for humid weather?

Julie Schwartz: Mell...I just want to say THANK YOU! I have read so much and watched so many videos. But no one is as informative and entertaining as you are. Now that I am done gushing I do have a question...I know i need to find a summer cast gel that has emulsifiers in it to balance out any glycerin I may be using. What ingredients am I looking for and should they be in the top 4 ingredients listed? Learning the ingredients is still new to me, So i would love a go to list I can reference. Once Again thank you so much for all you have done for us curly girls! I want to visit Canada just to meet you! Thank you for teaching me to make my curls look better than they ever have. I feel like a groupie. xoxo

Angela G: I love the Dippity-Do Gelee. You are so lucky you can get it at Walmart in Canada. It is harder to get in the States. I use it a lot in the summer here. I live in high humidity. Thanks for the video as always.

Yvette Soto: I love how educational your videos are!!! It’s like I need a pen and pad when you upload. Lol. Anyway quick question. When you co-wash should you put conditioner on your scalp as well or just rinse with waster and scalp massage with fingers??

mangoberrytea: thanks for the summer routine!!

Teresa Greenwalt: This is my first time ever seeing this.....I love it. Although your audience may be young....I am older and never learned how to embrace my curls. Out of 5 girls and 5 boys growing up, I was the only one with this curly hair. So no be knew how to help me much less teach me how to work with this curly hair....yes the dreaded ponytail. Some scary times. My hair can totally do this and look beautiful...I have that virgin hair...never learned how to straighten my hair much less blow dry it. I have long curly hair. I now get creative but would rather embrace the natural beauty of my hair... It took me 30 years to even like my hair. I have now loved my hair for 25+ years. But I need help with product and styling... love your channel.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Teresa from Arizona.

jordan henthorne: Can you please please please do a tutorial for us girls who work outside every day!?

Amanda: I love that you pointed out this little Walmart gem. I use it in between deva purchases when I'm broke or on Mat leave like now.

Amy Douglass: Just discovered your channel, and I sure am glad I did. You have great content and a witty personality to boot! Very down to earth and relatable. I noticed you have a Dyson dryer. I have been contemplating the splurge for a while and am stockpiling my Ulta points to make the cost a little more bearable. Can you do a pros/cons of the Dyson and offer suggestions of the best dryers in a variety of budget ranges? I have grown to value your opinion in the short time I have been watching.

Diana: Great timing Mell! thank you! Headed to the beach next weekend:)

Misty Doran: Hello, enjoying your videos . I have a curly headed daughter with very long hair. Can you do a video for young teens? She hates for me to do her hair but needs a simple routine that still leaves her hair beautiful.

Brenda Salazar: Bianca Renee swears by that GEL it’s her top favorite and always go to for a great hair day!

ALIYAH: Thank god!! you did this prouduct i had it!!!! I love you and your routines even with your sister. I only listen to what you say and always will Thank you!

Rebecca Molock: keep the videos coming! Love the comedy as well as the information!

J Torres: My hair needed this so much. Thanks

Gina Mitchell: I am from the Bay Area in California, and I found all these products at my local Marshall’s for about $5 USD/each! I highly suggest checking there to all the people looking with a local marshalls

Sam Peters: Im in South Africa and it is winter here..but i still love your video. Iv been natural for years now and thought i knew whats up...you have shown me the light! Please do a video on how you keep your curls popping through the week?

mrsmonizteach: She is adorable! Good job on your video. Hair looks gorgeous

Meow Meow: Mell can you make a video on thinning out the bulk in curly hair? That’d be amazing

Breanna Moore: I’ve been following the curly girl method for years now, but now my hair is starting to feel like wire. I’m ready for silicone, I need your personal help! Lol.

Caitlynn Roy: I share you videos with all my curly haired friends!! I’m getting married in Hawaii in September - do you have more formal hairstyle recommendations?? I am nervous of the humidity so taking in all the knowledge I can!

Maya Arroyo Burton: I LOVE THAT LINE!!!!!! The gel is amazing.

Tammara Usedo: Yeeeessssssss!!! This is my favorite product!!! Thanks for doing a video on it!

Brittny Campos: I love your videos. Would you be able to help with some information about a desert summer routine? I live in an area with little to no humidity. Thanks MELL!!!

Kayla Turner: My hair is wavy, and nowhere near as defined- you're 100% right, if I step outside where I am without diffusing my hair gets NASTYYY :(

Moony: Hey Mel, could you please do a video on pre-shampoo treatments? Am I out here wasting my time with hot oil treatments or should I put on a mask or smth before shampooing. Love u ❤️

Tina Bunnie: Fabulous!!! I love the hair. My curl is more like your seester’s hair. About as long as hers too. Can’t wait to try out these new products...did someone say shopping ? YEEES!!

Gina-Marie Ourganjian Cheeseman: I live in a dry, hot climate so I air dry most of the year. I sit near a ceiling fan and it helps my hair dry faster.

tbaker90: Your videos are so fun and informative! Can you do a video about good shampoo/conditioners that aren't necessarily"curly girl method" approved. I've been losing so much hair on the CG method. Help a seester out!

Haunted2424: What does it mean if my hair is twice as curly in humidity than it is in dry air? In the summer, I have waves up by my roots, and ringlets at my ends (a little smaller than sidewalk chalk size). In the winter, I only get waves and any volume I had disappears.

LAURA LOPEZ: New sub here! Love your vids. Your hair is so pretty!

A: I love your sense of humor and charisma so much

Michele Quinn: I’m confused and gotta admit, fascinated at how you apply gel. I’ve been adding a quarter size gel to each section. My hair is so porous, especially on top - it’s sucks up the product. Am I adding too much gel? It appears you just barely add gel. Thanks!

Alexandra Batista: I have an issue where my hair gets knots at the nape of my neck by the end of the day. Does this happen to you? How can I keep that from happening?

Amanda Huff: I just found your channel and have been loving your videos! I’m a fellow Canadian and wish I lived closer to Toronto so you could do my hair! Thanks for the awesome videos!

Glitter Rose: beautiful skin, makeup and curls poppin

SE Rod: What hair mousse or gel would you recommend for a 2c/3a girl living in dry sunny climate??

MsBockel: Any tips about shrinkage? I love the look of my day 2 curls after they have been in a pineapple. I’d love that look on wash day!

Leila Radan: LOOOVE! And yes, I do have a question... I FINALLY found the right balance of product for my damaged high porosity 3a hair (DevaCurl's Wavemaker and Frizz Free Columizing Foam with maybe an extra kick, for hold, of the Curl Maker). BUT... no matter what I do of late, the back of my hair looks like a**. the hair is scragglier there and doesn't curl properly and it seems to want to go in all directions. I have tried diffusing upside down, bending back, leaning to the sides all while trying to make sure the right amount of product is there, giving it more focus and care than I have in the past and, still the same crap. If you should ever have anyone as a client with this problem (and ideally a similar curl pattern because I am selfish like that and am thinking only about myself here ;-) ) can you film it and give us tips? Your curls always look incredible all around! HELP! (and thank you!)

Margarita Matias: I always wanted to try this product! Running to Walmart ‍♀️

Debbie Atkerson: I love your videos! Did you cowash with the deep conditioner, or use some other shampoo or conditioner first? Thanks!

Nadia chet: I just love u. Thanks for all your great vids. Your hard working and you inspire me

Eliza Jane Smith: Could you do a video on curly-hair care video for those of us who work out often? Thank you for this video -- I live in San Diego and it's soooo appreciated <3 Also you and your seester should move to San Diego and open a salon ;-)

Trinity Nykole: Another note, I have wavy/curly hair and love these products. But please know these are very light products FROM MY EXPERIENCE WITH THEM! So while the cream defines well, if you have wavy hair like me the Gel will not hold the curls it’ll kind of.... I don’t want to say “stretch” but it won’t hold the definition as it is a soft hold, duh. But I see how it’s great for girls with curlier hair because it surly will elongate!
