Hey guys it's not here and today I wanted to talk to you guys about some things that you've probably heard, especially on YouTube or on blogs, or just from family and friends, and it's basically all the worst curly hair advice that I have ever heard and you've Probably heard it too, so I thought I would just throw it all into one video and tried to clear some things up for some of you guys, cuz. I get a lot of comments from some of you who are very confused because you've got some advice from someplace and then some advice that contradicts it somewhere else and it just makes everything a bit confusing. So these are the worst pieces of curly hair advice. I'Ve ever heard, and I'm going to try and set them right for you guys so give this video a thumbs up if you enjoyed it or if you found it helpful. Also, don't forget to subscribe for more videos like this one turn on your notifications as well. So you don't miss my update, let's go ahead and get on with the video, so the very first piece of bad advice is to never shampoo your hair. I'Ve hoped this like the nopd method. I have personally never done the note P method, and I know that this is not just something for curly girls. There are lots of people doing the no P method. I remember there was a girl in school who did the no poo method and she used to get picked on because she had like straight hair, short straight hair and because she hadn't washed it. It was like insanely greasy props to her for keeping going with it. Because she told everybody that she was doing the no poo method and she said that off for a year, her hair would eventually clean itself like. I know that your body has a very good way of regulating itself. It can begin to regulate its oils. The same thing happens with your face: you shouldn't really scrub your face too much or cleanse your face too much, because then you can disrupt the pH balance and the oil balance and everything like that. So it's not a good idea to wash your hair too often. I just I don't know about never washing your hair at all with shampoo ever because you need to cleanse your hair in some kind of way. There are lots of things, especially as curly girls. We use a lot of products and those products can build up. There'S no other way for those products to get off of your hair unless you wash your hair and it's not just product, it's bacteria, it's grease and oils chené from the air. It'S all kinds of things that could be making your hair smell and all kinds of things like that, and probably the worst thing for us, curly girls, especially if you trying to grow your hair, is the fact that that bacteria is probably going to start and hibbett In your hair growth, any kind of gunk anything that's laying on top of your scalp is basically gon na suffocate your scalp, and it's gon na make it hard for your hair to grow. So I strongly recommend shampooing. What I would suggest instead is a sulfate free shampoo, and I know that that's not for everybody. Some people prefer to use shampoos with sulfates. They offer a much more thorough cleanse, but for lots of us color girls that sulfate that deep cleanse is gon na be too harsh. So I would recommend using a sulfate free shampoo use, a cream cleanser, any kind of cleanser. Even if you want to stay away from shampoos altogether use some kind of cleanser on your hair. The amount of washes that you need to do is gon na be different for everybody. Some people can wash once a week some people wash twice a week. Some people can wash once a month, some people can wash every six weeks and it goes on and on and on, but at some point I would definitely recommend washing your hair. It'S gon na make your hair feel revived. Your scalp is gon na be able to breathe again it's going to enable your hair follicles to actually push some hair out and actually get your hair growing and I'm sure you're, just gon na feel a lot better after just shampooing, okay, okay, so number two is: When it comes to protective styling, so I have seen people protective styling, then it could be a bun, it could be box braids, it could be faux locs, it could be cornrows and it's too damn tight. It'S too damn tight and you know, what's gon na happen like you're, trying to protect your hair and all you're really gon na do is pull it out. I'Ve seen people wearing their hair in buns every day, and you see that their hair starts receding like one day they had hair up here and then they're wearing buns every day in a year later, they're starting from back here no bottom edges left because they put Their hair so tight, it was so sweet. The edges are gone, so I don't want any of you. Listening to somebody who says hey have a look at this protective style that involves tying or pulling your hair that tightly I've seen it all over Instagram. Somebody goes and gets box braids done, and it's pulling it's pulling, it's pulling it's pulling if it feels too tight, it is too tight. Okay, if it feels too tight, it's really actually going to pull your hair up. I don't even know if that's like a bad piece of advice, or just that's just something that you're doing wrong so protect your styling. Be gentle with your hair. Keep your hair in your head! That'S the way to do it. Number three is slapping on that. Conditioner too much conditioner everywhere, all over your head. I used to do this when I first like my natural hair journey, I was all about the conditioner I was like. Let'S get, I don't had conditioner on my scalp, I had conditional way up on roots. I think one of my very first curly hair routines I had conditioner way up in the roots of my hair. People were like on record. She put conditional weapon there, it's bare hair, so I had to learn. The good advice would be to apply conditioner to the lengths of your hair and the ends of your hair. Don'T apply conditioner to your roots and definitely do not apply conditioner to your scalp, because conditioner is very thick and it will clog the pores on your scalp. If you apply it to your roots, it's just gon na wear your hair down, make it look flat. It'S not you want your hair doesn't need it just keep the conditioner for the roots and for the links of your hair. That'S the only place it needs to be number four. Is detangling detangling your hair when it's wet or detangling your hair, when it's dry? When should you do it because I use the advice, never detangle, hair when it's wet? I used to hear that and I used to hear people say never comb, curly, hair or never cream any hair when it's wet, because that's when the hair is the weakest. Yes, I agree that your hair is the weakest when it's wet, but tell me when else and you're going to detangle your hair you're, going to tangle it when it's dry and there's no conditioner on it, and it makes that sound. I can't because that doesn't sound good to me, so the good advice would actually yes detangle your hair when it's wet just make sure that you have got a ton of conditioner on your hair when you're detangling, the conditioner is going to help you to detangle properly. If your finger detangling is going to make it easier for you to actually do it if you're using a comb or a brush, it's gon na be a whole bunch yeah if you've got a conditioner on it with a lot of slip. If it feels too hard put more conditioner on it and that's the way to detangle your hair, that's the way that you're gon na get the least amount of breakage. It'S the way that you got ta protect your the best. So just never listen to anybody who says not to detangle your hair when it's a wet it needs to be wet because you need to have conditioner on it. Okay, number five is getting regular trims, so this is more like about drawing your hair wearing curly hair people have always said to me to get regular trims, regular trims. I remember when I was like ten or eleven. We had hairdressers coming to school and they said everybody should get trim every six weeks. So then I was thinking I need to get my hair trimmed every six weeks, but they weren't. They told everybody to get a trim every six weeks and I believed it for the longest time, but I didn't even question it. I was like what they were hairdressers. They told me to get a trim every six weeks. So what did I do? Then? I trimming my hair, my hair's getting shorter and shorter because they were not talking about curly hair. They weren't talking about hair that grows at the same rate as me. They weren't talking about hair that you know, looks like my hair anything like that. They were talking about straight hair. That advice was just wrong. Basically, don't listen to anybody who says that you should get a trim just scheduled in like regularly. You need to actually look at your hair, listen to your hair. Is it damaged at the ends? Do you have split ends? Is it growing quickly? Is it growing slowly? All of these things are going to make a difference to how often you actually need to trim your hair, and it should not be just like a regular thing. The whole purpose behind that is keeping your end healthy, because if your ends are healthy, then your hair can keep growing instead of breaking off at the ends. But if your hair is already healthy, then you don't need to cut it. You get me you get me. So listening to this kind of advice is really just not gon na be helpful to you come here. Just doesn't like that way. Number six is kind of like a new one like more recently, especially if you're going on, like a naturally curly hair journey and it's when people say to never ever ever ever ever ever straighten your hair. I talked about heat all the time on my channel and I will always say to avoid heat like it's the plague, if you're trying to grow your hair out, if you're trying to grow your hair out, it's not going to help you. That is completely true, but I'm not gon na tell you that you cannot ever use heat and I'm not gon na tell you that you are gon na get shunned from the natural hair community. If you decide to straight your hair once in a while, because I straighten my hair once in a while, I like the verse to the tea of my hair. I like the fact that I can wear it curly some days and I like the fact that I constrain it some days, but what I will say, of course, is to avoid heat, especially if we try to grow your hair. It is gon na be damaging, but it's your hair and you can do whatever you want, don't feel like you have to fit into this natural hair bogs. They don't feel as though you need to restrict yourself or confine yourself or anything like that part of the whole fun of having curly hair. Is that it's versatile and that I constrain it sometimes. So I don't want to take that away from you and tell you that you can never ever straighten your hair. I also just think it's a bad piece of advice, because it turns some people off of becoming natural. People can think that if they're not going to be completely natural, then they just can't do it at all and they keep straightening their hair every day. If everybody knew that it's gon na be okay, if you straighten your hair once in a while or it's gon na be okay, we're still gon na accept you in this natural hair community. If you straighten your hair once in a while, then I feel like lots. More people would join the bandwagon, and that goes for all heat as well blow dryers, curling tongs anything you want to use, go ahead and use it as long as you're, not doing it too much, because it will damage your curls in the long run. The next one is too much protein, so this was something that I got stung by when I was quite early on in my natural hair journey. I did a protein treatment and I didn't need to do a protein treatment. So then what happens? Is your hair gets overloaded with protein, and I actually had to look this up because I remember back at the time I didn't really know what was happening to my hair. I just knew that I didn't like the protein treatment that I used and I thought the ars died to stay away from it from years. I was like I'm never using protein on my hair like that again, then I look to the science behind it. Basically, if you pick your hair with too much protein, then your hairs gon na end up feeling brittle and dry and it could even be prone to breakage. So definitely don't do too many protein treatments. The one I used to said that it can be used every six weeks if you're using something like that. Definitely do not try to use it more than it recommends the last one is when somebody tells you that, because something worked for them is definitely gon na work for you, because that it just can't be true, there are so many different hair textures different cold pattern. You got to think about the versus coarseness of your hair. You'Ve got to think about the density of your hair, there's so many things to think about. Nobody can tell you that, just because something work for them, it's gon na work. For you I mean, unless they've studied your hair, unless they know your hair inside-out or unless you know each other very well, then maybe you can say something like that. Maybe if your twin sisters, then you can say something like that, but I can't sit in front of this camera right now and tell every single one of you watching that what everything that I use is gon na work for you as well one because I don't Know each and every one of your hair textures and two, because I know that you're all different. So how can I say that everything I do is going to work for you? It'S just it wouldn't be true. What I can do is tell you everything that I use. I can tell you everything, I know with that, then maybe you can go away and find some products that can work for you and it's definitely going to take a lot of trial and error and it might take you a while to find the exact products and Everything that works for you, so that's the best advice that I can give to you, instead of just telling you that what I use is gon na work for you, because if I tell you that my you're not feeling bad, if it doesn't work for you, no, I don't want you to feel bad. No, I don't need to feel like you've just got troublesome hair or something like that. I just want you guys to be equipped with the knowledge that you need to find products and methods that work for you. So that's what I'm gon na do and that's how I'm gon na try to help you guys. So that is everything for today's video. I really hope you guys enjoyed it. I really hope that it was helpful and then it cleared some things up for you, like. Don'T forget to give this video a thumbs up if you did like it and don't forget to subscribe, so that you don't miss any more of my future uploads. I really want to see you guys on this channel. I love everything all of you so much thanks again, so much for watching I'll see you guys in the next video bye. Oh did you

cassandra cano: i LOVE curly haired girls who say its okay to straighten it i honestly love every curly girl but those who obsess over not using heat stress me out cause its not the devil! its fun in moderation and wont slow your process too much. thats like a fitness trainer saying you cant EVER touch the cupcake, you can in moderation and still get fit!! indulge yourself

Sarah Kirsten Rose: I don’t avoid straightening my hair because of the natural hair community... I do it because I have extremely fine hair and even one time of straightening causes visible damage. Saying you’re ok with adding heat doesn’t mean it’s still not bad for your hair. But totally a preference and if you don’t see negative results that bother you then I don’t see a problem with it.

truvy _: These advices gave me life because I’ve made those mistakes and I had to learn the hard way and I had to learn from my mistakes; now my hair is continuing to grow every day by the smart decision I make.

Dante Velasquez: I put conditioner on my roots and scalp with no problem. But only in the shower and then it is rinsed out, not as a styling product.

M M: That's not what the no poo method is.. it's just washing your hair with a shampoo that doesn't lather.. I did this method and my hair grew like crazy.. with ACV as a conditioner. My scalp stopped itching and I could go longer without washing my hair

Mileydis Ponce - Hill: Im team sulfate Shampoo . I Shampoo once a week followed by a deep treatment, my wash and go's always come out great and I honestly believe that it is because I use sulfate Shampoo. I've tried co-washing once and I just couldn't do it. My scalp/hair loves to get squeaky clean weekly.

Isadora fernandez moncada: I can’t straighten my hair, every time I have done it my hair ended up super dry and I had to trim the ends because they were so damaged

victoria c: I don’t use shampoo but I mix apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and I use that instead of shampoo and it makes my hair grow because every shampoo I’ve tried dries out my hair

cassandra cano: deva curl has a no poo that works super well, it helped me a ton with hair growth and its a no poo. plus you can still clean your hair without a shampoo, like an acv rinse or a bentonite clay mask. im pretty sure you’ve done videos on those too LOL. i use shampoo still im just clearing this up for the girls in the comments

Mimi's Craft: I say stick with what you know and LEARN your hair!!!Once you learn your hair and what works for you.You will never and i repeat you will never have any issues.Simple hair care routine is key i beleive.Stick to what you know.Learn what works for you and i beleive your hair will flourish plus healthy eating and staying hydrated is always a good simple way to nourish both your body and hair.Healthy insides=healthy outsides.

Dante Velasquez: trims are every 3 months and reshapes are 6 months lol for type 4 specifically trims are so necessary because the split ends can break off the healthy hair.

Jade Caldwell: I have 2c curls/waves in the back and 3b curls in the front sections of my head. I do the curly girl method but I feel like my hair looks weird in the front when it dries. Anyone got advice?

FlowerRFabulous: i put conditioner in my roots when my hair is really dry there. it makes it softer and easy to comb

Shaniqua: Thank you for this video, it helped a lot ❤

Siham al: Not applying conditioner on root don't apply for all hair types. I have tighter curls and if I don't apply conditioner in the roots it dries and tangle easily and my hair never get flat, its type 4

Emma MacGregor: Have you tried the Tangle Teezer for Thick and Curly Hair? I CANNOT believe how, with conditioner, the brush flies through my hair SOOO easily!! It's absolutely incredible, Lana, and I hope you try it out. Great vid! Cheers, M

S: Could you do a video on how to straighten curly hair with hair curlers/rollers? Amazing video and you are so pretty.

Angela Saputan: You can use avc instead of shampoo! And just saying..I tried not shampooing for 1 month already now and my hair is in its BEST condition!!

Ari Abs: We learned that too-- to trim every 6 weeks. But hair grows 1/2 inch a month. Lol, so they're saying not to let your hair grow.

Curly Sue: you should do a mix of all your conditioners, deep or leave ins

Destiny Elle: I wash my hair once every three weeks, and it grows fast idk why

Zarah Hutchings: I can’t trim the ends of my hair off or I’ll pretty much have a buzz cut but I have split ends.. what do I do

tisha242: You should do an updated curly hair routine

kelvianna epperson: I had some box braid they didn't feel tight at first but they burned at night and when I last got a sew in my mom did it really tight and I wanted it out immediately

Angie: You’re so pretty and I love you’re hair!! ❤️❤️ It’s similar to mine

Yaasota a: My hair always get bushy when it's dry. How could I avoid it

Kat Beauty and Beyond: Soo good advices!

Aminah Breaux: hi lana i really like ur Advice for curly hair and ur last video on hair growth tips 2018 but could u give me an order in which to use the different hair growth methods .like a routine on how to use all the methods thanks

Yaasota a: My hair always get bushy when it's dry. How could I avoid it

Ariana Burke: 5:22 Thanks i want my hair to be flat i hate definition in my hair.

Searraleen Kelley: How do you get the back side of your hair stretch a little bit so it can stop puffing up under ? It looks funny cause everyrhing else is long and when i let my hair down, it looks like its cut down there

Radioactive_ood: Tutorial on French/ Dutch braid pls hopefully In dis January vlogs

Hiba M: I really do agree with doing the pony tail

101: I love all you videos.

shayla: i’m confused . i heard you’re only supposed to apply conditioner / shampoo to your scalp and no where else ? should i only be applying it to the length and ends ?

Léo: Actually the no poo method is using sulfate free shampoo or co-washing with conditioner.

Kashelle Henry: Thanks Lana❤

Pauline Medina: I want her to do my hair

Asteri ETERNAL: True, true, true!

Mia blades: I'm starting my journey today and i have a binder writing everything down

Ari Abs: It's suppose to be: don't detangle with a brush...not with a comb.

A.M. BL: Def guilty of these hahaha but tbh I hate when I don't put conditioner on the top of my hair it's looks so deformed :P I need to find new methods

Leona Higgs: My mom smokes everyday so my hair always smells like cigarettes and I have to wash it everyday and my hair is curly and its insanely dry

Siham al: I like your hair, so beautiful.

Rebecka Medhanie: How do you have your hair When you work out? So it dosen’t get runed

Naji: 7:10 LMAO you are too funny

yassmine el alami: im glad i didnt do any of these , thanks to mly hair dresser. ^^

lidz95: what about deep conditioners/hair masks/hot oil treatments? is that okay to use near your roots?

Shachede: LOVE YA ACCENT!

Starquasia Guevara: Do you use MSM?

Dee Luther: StuNNinG As AlwayS

JAHSMOON: looveeee youu

ᄋᄌᄋmay: Hey guysss so my hair is curly, a little straighter than Lanas but not by too much. It’s really confusing to manage. I cut it short ((like, i had Taehyung from BTS’ hairstyle)) and its growing out weird because it’s all different lengths?? Should I like cut it again?? It’s grown to about halfway down my neck in the last 5 months but it’s seeming like it’s not growing anymore, I feel like it’s dead as I bleached it in the past when I first had it cut. It’s kinda horrible because I always have to tie it back into a half up half down because it doesn’t fit I into a ponytail and when I take my hair out of the ponytail it sticks up. I constantly have to put on this pink mousse I got from Boots because otherwise it frizzes. Only problem with the mousse is that it makes my hair stiff and dries white looking like dandruff. I also can’t have it down much because otherwise it goes hella frizzy and puffs out. I have literally NO products to use, and I don’t know much of a routine because so many people are saying different things to me. I live in England, so I don’t think American products will do much use. I’ve been watching Lana for maybe like a few months now but I still don’t know a complete routine I could do for my hair like bedtime, washing and styling. I really want it to be longer so it will be easier to tie up and become more healthy. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help- thank you ☺️

caramel king200000: Banana .... Peeled !!! ~ Nice Video !!!

Jurtyne Reimonenq: Are you gonna make merch

Emily Jane: Where did your bangs go??

XXXMELISSATACION: My hairdresser told me curly hair should be trimmed 6-8 weeks. So did the internet (for curly hair) 8-12 for kinky

XXXMELISSATACION: But if I don't condition my roots I can't detangle them :/

Joy Quinn: I was the 51st viewer

Syanne Anderson: Hi

Mariam Hamisi: Stop showing off your curly hair we already got the message
