Aveda How-To | Define Curls With Be Curly™ Style-Prep™

http://www.aveda.com/product/5218/1638... Aveda Global Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders, explains how to get defined curls for women with naturally curly hair. Follow this tutorial to help tame your curls with all-day frizz control

Wash with Aveda Be Curly Shampoo and Conditioner and treat your locks to a nourishing wheat protein and organic aloe formula. The certified organic lime, lemon, and bergamot aroma invigorates your senses while calming your curls. Follow with 3-5 pumps of Aveda Be Curly Style-Prep, using less for short or medium-length styles.

At Aveda, we believe product plus technique gets results. Beenders demonstrates how to separate the hair into two sections for targeted, dramatic results. Massage Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer through damp hair, applying more product to the back of the hair than the front. Twirl your locks to create individual corkscrews until your whole head is curled. Use a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment, then wrap hair around a curling rod for maximum definition. Set the style with Aveda Light Elements Texturizing Creme to hold the look without added weight or stiffness.

Prep style, finish. Product plus technique gets results. Aveda.. Are you someone like Tiara with naturally curly hair, who would like lush and defined frizz-free curls? Let us show you how., We'll start with Be Curly, Shampoo and Conditioner to set the stage for shiny healthy-looking curls.. We are ready to prep for styling., We'll use Be Curly Style-Prep for gorgeous perfectly-formed curls without frizz.. You can even use it on days when you don't shampoo to refresh your curls. Long. Textured hair, like Tiara's, requires three to five pumps of Be Curly Style-Prep.. If you have shorter hair use two to three pumps., We apply it throughout her damp hair.. Now we're ready to style, Tiara's hair with Be Curly, Curl Enhancer, which really intensifies the curl and boosts shine., We'll separate the hair into two sections front and back., Then take a small amount of Curl Enhancer and stroke it through Tiara's hair using less in the front And more in the back., Then we comb the Curl Enhancer through her hair, with a very wide-tooth comb to distribute the product evenly.. Now we'll section Tiara's, hair again for best results, starting at the nape of the neck and section our way up towards the crown.. We twist small sections of hair into little corkscrews.. We continue twisting small sections until all of Tiara's hair has been curled.. If you don't have time to do your whole head, you can just twist a few sections in the front.. Next we'll put a diffuser attachment on a high powered blow dryer and set the dryer for high heat and low speed.. Then we'll turn her hair upside down and blow dry with the diffuser.. When the hair is 75 %, dry Tiara sits up.. We continue drying and lightly bunching hair into the diffuser to boost curl.. Now Tiara has soft and luxurious curls., But if you like even more definition, you can also use a curl rod.. We wrap small sections of hair around the rod and hold briefly. Just go through the hair and do the odd piece to get a great result.. Now we are ready to finish with Light Elements: Texturizing Creme.. We emulsify it in our hands and apply it to Tiara's hair, to give it even more moisture definition and light hold. For beautiful curls, prep style and finish with Aveda

Iniko Blue: I use Aveda products daily. I'm definitely a fan. However I think this video is ridiculous. No one has time for all that in the morning. I love Aveda products but the only product from the be curly line that actually works on curly hair is the curl enhancer. It's like they didn't think about how dry and frizzy curly hair is when they designed the line. I've been using Aveda for well over a decade. They do well with most products but the curly line needs to be revised. It doesn't work for curly hair. Change the smell of the shampoo and conditioner (it's a bit nauseating....just stick with shampure or something similar). Also make a shampoo and conditioner that is as moisturizing as Avedas discontinued product Sap Moss (the sap moss serum was also great). The style prep should also help with frizz and lose the lemongrass smell. I personally now use the dry remedy shampoo, conditioner and masque because is more moisturizing and doesn't stink like the be curly line. Then the smooth infusion style prep, be curly curl enhancer and confixor. Aveda also needs to bring back that one product that was in a light blue Spritz bottle (can't remember the name) that could revitalize curls after a work out or if you were headed out and didn't have time to re-wash. Oh and while I'm at it what the heck happened to elixer. That was a great curly hair product that was ditched. I obviously need to get in on a meeting when you're developing curly haired products. I spend a small fortune at Aveda each year it would be great to have my curls on point again while using your products.

mycatsaysmeow1: I love how we have such a straight hair bias in fashion that we demonstrate curly hair products on people with naturally straight hair.

THERESA ANDRADE: Her hair in the beginning is like mine, many people think that puffy flat looking hair means that its not curly, but actually many times it is curly but thin so it doesn't form curls the same way as other thicker stronger hair types. This video was very useful

Angela W: I just want to say to anyone with curly hair, these products are GREAT. I have tried many salon brands and gave up on my curly hair cause I thought I just didn't like it on me. I started using these and I love my curls. I get tons of compliments...people ask me if I curled it myself..."nope! natural!" :):)

isingfashion: As much as I love the way twisted curls look, it takes FOREVER!!!

Kathy'schannel: Wow, amazimg, she might not have curly hair, but this shows that curly hair can look as gorgeous as for someone with wavy hair.

hydragnb: Any way to do this without heat? Note: my hair was perfect tight ringlets. It has slowly devolved into a sad, fluffy mess, somewhat like the model's before. However! The hair behind my ears often remains curly, especially if I shower at night and sleep with wet hair. Since my hair is already so dry, because I'm inexperienced with heat tools (and own none), I want to try this twisting technique to see if it will revitalize my curl. Just... without blow drying (and/or curling iron). Possible?

Aveda: @sunshine3317 Thanks for being an Aveda fan! We apologize for any inconvenience. Because we recently launched Be CurlyTM Style-PrepTM, we needed to update the video to include the full product range. We hope you will continue to visit our page and enjoy the new video.

Emily Frias Video: Same here. I have naturally tight curls and was thinking I don't need any "curl enhancer". LOL! But I think twisting the strands may help to bind the curls so it won't frizz. And it may also help keep definition. I'm gonna give it a try and see what happens.

evelynp32: Not only would that take a long time but it would cause to much damage to your hair, especially if you use heat tools on high settings. Which then cause you to lose your curls natural defenition. Curls become naturally defined when it is well nurished, so you won't have to go through this kind of process.

MysTaria87: So, what does the twisting do for you that drying your hair without twisting doesn't?

JohnnyRogue313: I have curly hair that I'm trying to understand for the first time in 27 years. My hair type is Not like the models, but I'm going to give this twisting method a try with Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie to see if it helps define my curls and tame my frizz which is the main problem I'm having

amsterdamska: Im using this technique every time since years. Its works aevery time but it just takes ages to do. So when you have less time try to twiste bigger sections of your hair and less layers.

MsBecs85: I do this technique with my hair, it works. Although I have never used Aveda products. At least this video is more realistic than the John Frieda one. I love John frieda's shampoo and conditioner for curly hair, But I can't find them anymore in Australia...

Neekolassify: i've tried that cream on my curls :) it left them ultra soft <3

hulahoopandperform: I know it sounds crazy but this method actually does work. I have very curly hair and I thought this wouldn't work but it actually does

cee veril: True, that method is really good. But the twisting method only works because of the product applied before. The product helps the twisted pieces stay twisted. If you try to twist your hair without applying any product before, it won't stay like that.

Hutch: I would love to see these products on someone who actually has curly hair. Maybe 3C or 4A hair.

Chavely Martínez: Thanks for the video, I just ordered several products.

Alex Waters: Well it looks easy enough to do on your own at least. It actually looks easier than straightening lol

Kristjan Hayden: beautiful!

Ozlem Ozyurt: What are the ingredients of the shampoo and creme?

Ziggy Flame: Wow I really love this!!

Karmen Junry Lim: My natural curls are like hers, medium sized rings! I am going to try these products! Yippee! Thanks Aveda! And I need to dig out for my diffuser attachment argh!

yupyup1562: These products and technique did not give any better results for my curly hair then the products I was already using which are much cheaper. In fact my hair was frizzier.

ohmickiysf: I'm white with naturally CURLY hair. I'm curious what this product does for someone with hair like mine. I don't need to twist or curl my curly hair.

Sid B: This technique was obviously created by someone with straight hair..

Connie Steen: Would this work for straight hair?? xx

MysTaria87: I wonder what her hair would like if he didn't try that twisting method.. would it be so curly? I guess that's a good idea for people with more wavy textures.

Claudia Okyere-Fosu: Wow

Kstarluvsall: Those are the type of curls I want =(

PurpleStorm16: It would be really interesting to see this on someone who actually had curls. The model's hair (although is gorgeous) is not curly it's wavy.

Ana Luis: So after much thought I decided to bite the bullet and spend the kind of money I have NEVER spent on a hair product. I bought the style prep and curling cream. Now granted I did not go through each strand of my hair and curl as this video suggests ( I mean who as time for that!!) but it seams that for my thin but a lot of wavy hair this product has the exact opposite affect! sure it made my hair soft and silky but instead of making it wavier as I'd hoped or more defined as per the product claim it made my hair pin straight. I've never had pin straight hair unless I blow dry it or use a straightener so this product does have it's use for me that has me excited BUT I'am a bit bummed that I spent the money and still have no solution to tame frizz and define my waves!

MysTaria87: @iiliketospit I have 4a hair and I don't have z pattern hair. There's three sub types within type 4 hair: 4a, 4b, 4c. 4a hair is a tighter curl, it is not a z pattern, so now you know. Look it up if you want.

Jade Pixie: Love the dress the model wore at 3:20, where can I get that?

MysTaria87: @KIDsinLove8 I'm guessing your hair is possibly wavier than hers. I have naturally curly hair too... more like 3c/4a and mine has a slight looser curl pattern, so in her case, it made her hair curlier cuz she doesn't have much curl to begin with.. if that makes sense. lol

paconot: Yes, they are missing the boat on the curly concept.  Leaving out the natural hair community or mixed chicks type of hair.  Dumb corporate idiots.

Aveda: Please visit our website for more information about our products, including our Be Curly collection: aveda.com. ^ka

Ezarhia J MUA: This is wavy hair!

mayte986: How does she not have curly hair?

kissmmysass123: This actually does work.... -_- overpriced as hell, but it works

fem-rai: Love the product but I feel like it weighs my hair down

Mulher Frugal: A técnica é interessante, mas esse cabelo pra mim,é praticamente liso.

JBurd84: Why would one comb hair straight to re-curl it. Ain't no body got time for that!

Samm Vinesett: @MysTaria87 idk i have naturally wavy hair, and i find twisting it like that actually makes it straighter...

zainab bibi: @bradleasays im not talking about a contest but it is though a little misleading when the hair is wavy instead of curly

MustangKassie: That would take a lot of time!

Brianna Carter: In beginning of the video that's my hair except thicker, way thicker!

hulahoopandperform: It just makes the curls more defined and a lot less frizzy. I just hate it take a long time to do

orlysanti: Go Curly Men's short curly hair.

cee veril: I like her smile... it's beautiful.

wolfylu: @curlycurlsgirls your hair is more curly. her hair is less curly. still, they are both curly. it's not a contest.

Kathleen Kikot: GORGEOUS

Brianna Carter: Well my hair is more curly but the texture of the same.

Isabel Lopez: Wooooooooooooooow!! you area greate!!!

Cindy Scott: her hair does not look at all like my curly, wavy hair!!

IchigoWaffuru013: beautify but sadly it takes so much time I don't have :(

Paris Steinbaugh: if i pulled on my curly hair like that it would RUIN the curls NOT define them...

SocaMusicLova1: this hair is naturally wavy not curly. defining a curl is when you have existing curls this is creating curls .

pania: how i can buy online this protacts??

WAITING PRAYING: This doesn't work .. I tried it and it left my hair dry . I tried it four different times . Returning because its not worth the price .......

Aveda: We have just the product to help reign in your fluffy hair! Try our Brilliant Humectant Pomade — it helps to enhance curl and control style. Check it out at Aveda.com. ^ed

T Cole: Is her hair REALLY considered curly? That's NOT curly hair! Thats curls by munipulation...ii'm just saying

saritia: ofcourse she needed that curly iron

hulahoopandperform: Only negative is that it takes a long time

Marileyda: my hair is like that without that proccess.... -.-

Brittanie Williams: She’s not naturally curly; your creating curls !!

Jazmin: i know right it peeves me of when people say they have curly hair and they don't.

jormel Aragon: I want this product??

Samm Vinesett: @MysTaria87 lol yes it does!

Erika Araiza: thats a lot of work!! what if ur in a hurry lol! :P

MagoLerio: I want an information...where you can find models so nice and lovely?! :D

Esme Venegas: Her hair is not curly it's wavy. Please do a video with someone that has actual natural curly hair.

Rae Kallianpur: this is unrealistic. and it would not do as great a job as simply scrunching without the comb...

Veronica Kelsey: It's not really curly hair if you've had to twist every single section....sorry

zainab bibi: that hair isnt curly you should seemine !!!

idontcare0953: jesus who has time for all that

ժąɾƙʂąƖɬ: i watched this whie high and felt trippy as fuck

astrolocherry: THATS curly hair?

sky lark: why would you show us how to get curls ----then use a tong !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jos Cherry: Her hair is not curly

e13_suspect: fuck it take me to the carwash and get my hair jet washed. this shit seems too long.

Samm Vinesett: @MysTaria87 4a is afro pattern or z-pattern hair, you know...

Kathleen Gagne: thats not curly hair?:/

Lovely5646: Her hair is not even curly....

Val: Ummm .. this girl dosent have curly hair

mayna puteri: she a bit looks like beyonce and angelina jolie???

Val: Ummm .. this girl dosent have curly hair

MsShaella: Lol trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat .

berrytwistify: her hairs not even curly look at her roots dead straight

MsBlahist: I've seen better...
