Kat Graham's Natural Hair Beauty Routine | Beauty Secrets | Vogue

Hey guys, it is me kat, graham, i am so excited that you guys are going to be with me on this. Never before journey i'm going to bring you guys into how i actually do my hair, my makeup and skin routine, i'm biracial, so my mom couldn't really do my hair. She just dropped me off at the hair salon and i've been doing getting my hair done by professionals almost every single week, since i was like nine years old, because my mom just couldn't do it. So i've learned a lot being on quarantine. I haven't had a team of hair stylists that are trained and can deal with everything. So when i first wake up, the first thing i want to do is my eyebrows. I use anastasia's a lot i'll shape them with the with the gel that she has. I'Ve been sweating a lot working out in the water, so i've been using l'oreal's unbelievable, so it stays on for two days. I don't know why, but even when i take off my makeup at night, i wake up and i still find more so i've been. I love these they're they're little. You can get them at like walgreens or whatever um they're makeup, removing wipes aveeno, my skin loves it. You see, see, there's still dirt, i don't understand it. I'M spritzing my um dior. I like oil to milk cleanser on my makeup. Removing pad so this is my favorite serum capture, youth. You can see it. It'S a glow. Booster. I'Ve been really just like applying it to my face, that's really my routine and then what i do is i just like chill and then i get into my hair. So i'm gon na take out my my four braids. I'Ve been very careful to not use heat on my hair. Just i really wanted it to grow when i first started quarantine. I think my hair was maybe to here - and now it's to here, which is nice, but you know this is not ever something that i would have to do. I would keep my hair in cornrows and just you know, throw on a wig because most of the jobs that i had done as an actress you know they wanted a certain kind of of look four months now and i haven't straightened my hair, so you can See it's really healthy. It'S been really therapeutic for me to just wear my hair, really really big. So, let's get it big. Can you hear me so much fun? I mean an afro pick. I never thought i would even own one. The african afro texture is not something that hollywood has ever necessarily embraced, so i hope that i one day can play a character that i actually look like my hair stylist rachel lee who's, amazing, who was actually the first person to really put me on this journey Of using my own hair, i just love just having a fro. I don't know, quarantine has completely changed me um. I don't know that. I would even have shown this to you guys before i can do so much with it. I don't really. I don't straighten it, but what i've been loving to do is condition my hair and keep it conditioned. So these are my favorite oils, um manuka oil. You can just get this at like the beauty salon. Argan oil stimulates hair growth, black rice oil is the bomb and now for my favorite concoction that i made myself mustard seed oil and jamaican black castor oil extra dark. You only need a little bit over maybe spots that have given you a bit of trouble or are stubborn in terms of growth or whatever, but i do love my pro and i'll show you guys what i'm doing to condition it. So there's really two products that i have been living by. This is like my fifth one of this, but originally this was a gift right before quarantine. I had a week of press to do we didn't know what was happening. It was just flights were getting cancelled. Um borders were getting closed and why am i crying over conditioner? This is so stupid. Um, but rachel gave me this and she said i want you to start to use this on your hair and i was like fine. You know i get a bunch of products. All the time - and i it was almost like she knew i was gon na - be on my own, and i've never had to be on my own with my hair so anyways. I really love this product because this was the product that helped me figure out that my hair will work with me. If i don't give up on it. So sorry guys, so i love it. It'S super simple. It'S like 7.99! You can see literally. I take a whole scoop. I love this stuff. This is, i just put it all over my hair and my hair just loves it so much and it seems like a lot watch how quickly my hair drinks it up so for vampire diaries. I'Ve worn a lace front for many years, so the glue and the wig clips and the pulling and the braids were hard on my hair, i think for like the all eyes on me movie. I had done a perm because i had a pixie cut, but then, after that i said i am so done. I just want to have a master bro. So if you see what it's kind of done to my hair is the curls are much more defined and my hair, just like, really really loves it so another product that i love ryogio. It'S amazing black owned, and you can see this basically, my curls will do whatever i want them to do. This is like me loosely holding on to my hair and it's just completely clean and then, when i take it out at the end of the day, it's just like, so you know soft. So, let's get into some makeup. I like makeup to last. This is what i've been wearing. It'S super super light, but you can um change how heavy you want it. I'Ve been using this um dior skin, correct for this area here and then i've got ta love and have my reread my fenty beauty. So my color is actually caramel see it's proof. Oh my god. I'Ve never done a video like this before and i just take it around my chin. Take it also to my forehead and now we're gon na do a little skin correct, and you know one thing that people just don't talk about is you know we are women, we have hormones and our skin changes, and sometimes we have dark spots and light spots And it just changes and then before i totally blend, i'm going to do my infallible and what i love about. This is because it is so light and it does stay on that. I am able to use it quite sparingly. I really don't get why my mom did not. Let me play with makeup when i was younger and so what um i did was. I had to hire people when i first started to get publicity, but the only people. I knew professionally that i trusted with my makeup were drag queens because before um vampire diaries i was releasing music and the only people that would let me in um to perform were drag queens, and you know gay clubs in west hollywood. So i learned how to contour um from sutan aka raja, who is an iconic performer in the drag scene and then throughout doing more and more fashion. I stopped wearing as much makeup so you'll notice. If you even do like a timeline of my makeup over the years um, it's gotten a lot lighter um, so you can see it's pretty, but i need a bit of blush. I really don't want to lose my freckles. This is benetint by benefit and you can see they're starting to come through. So if you look closely, you will see my freckles starting to come back. You can see a bit of them there. If i need something that is um more closer to my color. I use the true match from l'oreal and that kind of really helps define it. One thing that i really i really love doing is my mascara to the point where even when i'm on set, i ask if i can do it myself, because i love doing it. So much telescopic mascara. It looks like this i'm obsessed with a little bit of highlight here and i love um gerlain's terracotta, it's a bronze and you can just do bam. I'Ve had this forever. I have it in like three colors. This is just lotion lumi. I wear very minimalistic eye makeup these days. This is my dior palette. It'S backstage it's! It'S warm neutrals! It'S all my colors! It'S my favorite favorite favorite, favorite palette. I use it every day, i'm just using the dark brown um right here and a thin brush and i just create a bit of a contour and then i use the um. It'S like a terracotta. You can use whatever lip gloss. You want super easy. I mean all my black girls already know about this, but this is cream of nature. Olive oil, perfect edges. This one is my favorite just do a little here and get your baby hairs right. One thing about me: while i do my baby hairs, is that i am obsessed with um amber the smell, and this um is my official smell. It'S serge lutong, santel magisk. I can't pronounce these things and that's how you know it's good. Hopefully, you guys have enjoyed my self-care routine and have learned a little bit more about my journey. I love you guys. Good luck! You

Emilia: Why is nobody talking about Kat? Talk about her! She literally just cried in front of camera because of the struggles she's had with her natural hair, and loving and accepting it. This is her first vid like this and she is the most genuine celebrity I have seen! All of this is so genuine, I came here cuz I saw Kat's face, but now I have such a deeep respect and love for her.

Taizya Kaite: People don't realize that she wasn't just crying about her hair, there's something deeper

PinkKushyy: A black women’s relationship with her hair and hair journey is so special and sacred!! I’m so glad that she was able to finally delve into this part of her culture!!

Cerys Evans: It’s really sad they didn’t let Kat embrace her self. Although it’s just hair, it has way more meaning than that.

Navya :)): Her actual real hair would have complemented her role in the Vampire Diaries. She has such beautiful hair! She's so pretty naturally! Would love to see her in a role that would respect her natural self! ALSO VAMPIRE DIARIES WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTHING WITHOUT YOU! YOU ARE A STAR!!

daydreamer: Her crying over her hair brought tears to my eyes. I’m so glad she is loving her natural hair because it’s gorgeous!

Dallas Lyndlee: I don’t think she’s crying over hair, but moreover, identity. To come out and embrace your hair, especially when it’s not accepted in society, is an emotional process. It’s accepting yourself, and it’s saying you don’t care what others say anymore. She’s taking care of herself and her hair; that’s what it’s about.

Yaldah Samadi: the worst part is the fact that she felt stupid about crying over her hair becuase thats what society has taught her. This woman does not deserve that. Poor Kat, i wish i could hug her. :( Her hair doesnt make her any less beautiful, i think she is one of the prettiest girls out there. Nothing can change that. <33

Crystal z: The way she cried about her hair hit me SO HARD as a 15 year old blck girl who’s still learning to control her hair :)

Mira 💗: I love Kat’s transparency in this. As a black woman I completely feel her and when she cried I cried too! It’s deeper than just hair.

American Boy: Her hair is GORGEOUS

MS: I hope she gets a role with her natural hair, that’s much needed representation

ana: i literally cried with her when she cried. i am very happy that she is accepting herself and embracing this side! very proud of this amazing woman.

Rebekah Chuma: All love to people like Rachel Lee, who help others embrace who they truly are!! Much love to Kat on this journey of finding out how fun her hair really is

Adaeze Elechi: Why am I only just now learning about this stunning woman?? Her beautiful soul radiates through the screen. You and your natural hair are absolutely gorgeous, Kat!!!

Camilla Sabatino: The fact that I’ve never seen her natural hair before on the vampire diaries is kinda crazy...

Rinoa: Watching Kat cry brought me to tears, you can really see the pain in her eyes with what she’s had to deal with over the years especially the mistreatment during TVD. Her hair is absolutely beautiful! What an Amazing, strong women inside & out. Wish all the best for her got a lot of love.

Vivica Addo: I literally loved this so much! The curly hair/natural hair journey is honestly so tough, especially being bi-racial and not know where we fit in as a black women with our hair, and a lot of the times we are figuring out a lot of it on our own! But I love that she’s been going natural and embracing her natural hair! I can tell it’s been a big change for her but I can also see how much she just LOVES doing her natural hair! These kinds of videos are so important! Absolutely loved this

Ilovecheesecakebaby: Its not stupid that youre crying. As someone with 4c hair i had to learn to care for my natural hair too. I get it and im with you.

Tahli Bertrand: This was personal. I cried. I wish I could have a day with her to teach her so much more. I'm so lucky to be able of started my hair journey as early as I have

S.: Because of this video, She inspired me to start my natural hair journey. I haven't found "my" perfect product yet but I'm so excited to be discovering this side of myself. Kat if you're reading this, THANK YOU ❤️

SoInsightful Speaks: Just wanna show you some love after seeing a reaction to your video. I’m proud of you for stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing your hair. It’s hard to traverse whyte spaces and show up authentically yourself. You’ll inspire so many others with your journey.

Ashley Littles: I thought I would "side eye" this video... but I found it sooo very touching! I completely identified with her moment explaining her journey in this "uncharted territory" call a "natural afro". I cried remembering my 1st transition and finally my courage to hv a "big chop"! I felt "ugly" everyday for years b4 I finally accepted and learned my hair process to feel beautiful again... I don't really like wearing makeup but it was a daily necessity while trying to accept my "new look". I Love this Video. It was the Courage to be Vulnerable 4 Me!

Tenisia Davis: This made me cry. My heart goes out to her but I’m so glad she’s embracing and accepting of her own hair. Young girls need to see this

hiekfbisnl: *"I hope one day I can play a character that I actually look like."* That made me tear up a little

Tyler Gab: You’re beautiful Kat, and I’m glad you’re finding yourself and loving your hair cause it’s hard as a black woman. You’re gorgeous, smart, and so strong. I’ll enjoy watching you grow and get your recognition and bag.

Zaha anaz: Shoutout to kat's hairstylist rachel for helping kat find her confidence

esther: This is why representation is sooo important. I’m so glad we were able to change things a little bit for the girls and boys growing up today when she started crying my eyes started sweating

Catherine Gilmore: So beautiful; inside and out. I cried when she cried. I didn't know she went through all that on TVD and it broke my heart for her. So happy she sees her beauty like we do. I hope she's still rocking her natural hair.

Destiny Echols: “The African afro texture is not something that Hollywood has ever really embraced.. So I hope that one day I can play a character that I actually look like..” dang.

rachel: she’s so stunning... it makes me so sad how she wasn’t able to embrace her natural hair in the vampire diaries :(

Shaina L: So beautiful, so raw, so authentic. LOVE HER ❤️

6ixbeau: Omg Kat...you are a sweet blessing to this world. I know the feeling she’s describing being biracial and experiencing my own journey with hair it’s so beautiful to see that she has finally arrived YOUGOGIRL!

Kanchi Nigam: ohmygawwwd! she is so simple and beautiful and adorable! Her real hair is far far better than those fake hair. I am go glad that she embraces her natural beauty. She must know that we embrace her looks and everything with the purest region of our hearts, too.

maria !!: Kat was incredibly disrespected on the vampire diaries. I literally just heard some things that made me so upset that I didn’t even notice before, that’s why I’m here. The fact that they made her wear a wig infuriates me honestly. If she wanted to show her natural hair, they should have let her. Kat’s natural hair is just as gorgeous as she is.

annalena 727: She's a such a queen! It hurts to hear how much she had to go through... her natural is so beautiful, just like her.❤

Belovaswidow: Kat Graham is such a gorgeous woman and her natural hair is sooo stunning. I personally would have loved to see Bonnie have Kat’s natural hair.

Enzo E: She’s so beautiful! I recently started watching the vampire diaries and it’s pretty fair to say kat Graham is the shows saving grace. I only watched it in hopes of seeing her scenes & I noticed how badly her character was being written for so I stopped watching at season 5. Can’t wait to see her in future roles.

Britt consciouslymee: Freaking love this, just b/c the struggle really is real and when u get to know love and embrace your hair it’s truly spiritually uplifting!!! Took me 25 years to figure this out now at 31 I love my long 4c hair rarely use weaves it’s amazing

Bitch U crazy: No matter what ethical background someone has, this is for everyone; You are gorgeous ❤️

kanyua kinyua: Kat is just beyond incredible! Love her♥️

Sky Delight: I just want to give her a hug! Kudos for being so real with us, Kat! Hopefully, you will get to play someone who looks like you soon! I was cringing the way that pick was being dragged through your hair, but we're all living and always learning everyday!

Genesis Tolentino: She literally has the best performance throughout tvd and carried that show. She’s absolutely beautiful!

- lilly -: Kat Graham deserved so much better on the Vampire Diaries, the way they treated her was so rude. The fact they also didn’t let her wear her normally “ I hope that one day, I played a character that I actually looked like” that made me feel so bad for her. Also she has such a therapeutic voice. Stan Kat Graham

JohnnyBoy: This is the best video I’ve ever watched You are beautiful through and through and this covid world is really teaching us all to imbraca ourselves and learning to love our uniqueness and “flaws”

Gabriella Odusanya: Thanks, Kat for being brave and showing us the real you. I know exactly how you feel. I never thought I'd see the day when my story was said so clearly. You are my representation.

Sarah G: Aww Kat, you are not alone! So many of us have struggled with our curly hair... you're so beautiful inside and out, hair or no hair, curly or straight. Thank you for being so honest with us and for sharing your tips. Just beautiful! x

simply.s: Feel like every black woman can relate to this video. Especially when she broke down. It's so much more than hair. It's identity, culture, societal "worth". Very refreshing to see a woman with type 4 hair on Vogue

Lovena Kesner: She is gorgeous! I would have love to see some more hair tutorials.

itskviukmakeup: She is amazing ! I admire her so much ! She is so humble, so pretty, so kind to her fans ! Such an inspiration ❤️❤️ Such a cutie

Jules Maneki Neko: Her skin looks clear despite issues with getting the remaining bits of makeup off. I wish my skin behaved that way! Also, her hair looks so pretty in a natural affro.

Chanel Perfume: She is a very beautiful girl, and her natural hair brings out her beauty even more. I just love this girl

may c: My husband and I always talk about how she was literally the most beautiful one on Vampire diaries!! She is stunning!

Nakaya Manning: I absolutely adore Kat Graham. Thanks for these wonderful tips and I hope you continue to grow in power and love.

folompleonleaves: sending this beautiful soul all my love for her in the present and in the future. i haven't watched her in years but there's something so captivating about her

Angel Apodaca: Aww I love her, I’m glad she found the beauty in her natural self

Amandine Vicente: I love her so much, I started to watch vampire diaries for the first time few weeks ago and I love it. I’m so sorry she had to go through all of this with wigs and stuff. She is so beautiful and true. She is so perfect with her own hair and even without make up. She is not even using overpriced products , she is just amazing. I love her. Wish her the best

Rosalia: I hope this doesn’t offend any black women at all but it makes me angry to see that black women can’t show their beautiful natural hair! It’s so unfair. Black is beautiful. Your features are absolutely gorgeous, your skin is angelic and so so glowingly gorgeous. Your hair is so freaking perfect. Don’t let anyone ever tell you different.

Tess G: Wow! I love her so much ❤ Self love is something precious. I hope she gets to play a character with her natural hair.

Hope Nation: Loved you on VD sis!! They didn’t deserve you at alllll. Glad you’re embracing your natural hair . We are here for you if you need support and tips on your hair

Camelia V rijt: I love how she's so exited to tell us about her hair products :^D

Ana-Maria Perez: You need to be so brave to be this vulnerable!! Beautiful journey Kat! It’s amazing how quarantine changed everything for so many people!❤️

Keeping It Natural: She doesn’t even need the makeup. Just absolutely beautiful.

Amber Leavitt: I come back to this video a lot. Love her and her realness and relatability. What a role model!

L A L A: She’s so fun, Vogue we need more videos with her! ✨✨

Arnisha Holland: Omg I’m crying I want to hug her and tell her that she and her hair is beautiful ❤️ representation matters

Luanna Alves: Eu realmente precisei pausar o vídeo para dizer, Kat você é uma mulher incrível, é surreal como eu te admiro e vejo que você se supera mais a cada dia, love youu.

Lone x Mo: It hurts me to see how society has affected black girls throughout the years. Everyone should be able to embrace their natural beauty.

Saphire Mills: Love you Kat Graham!!! An amazing actress with a beautiful personality Blessings to you on your hair journey

Daniela Gonzaga: Sempre linda ❤️

Madlen: Im so proud and happy that kat is showing the process and struggles with afro hair.❤❣

Jaxon Marlow: I adored you for YEARS as Bonnie, and after seeing this short Vogue video I LOVE you SO much more! Your realness is madness, and you are too gorgeous!!!! ✌❤

Cambria Nwosu: This was one of the realist Vogue episodes in a long time. Her vulnerabilities showed right through the camera lens and the struggle is real especially dealing with natural hair with people of color. Societal norms and especially working in entertainment have white washed the perception of beauty. Kat should know and always know that she is beautiful.

fabiana Ferreira: Kat maravilhosa, rainha

Riya Podder: She is so genuine. Love her❤️

Natesia Young: Watching this video made me see a different view on my natural hair.. I would hate wearing my natural hair and knowing what to do with. I would always want it in braids or flatten cause I wasn’t confident. But watching this , Kat, having the same problem MADE me REALIZE to embrace and love my natural hair .. now I’m wearing my natural hair and like she said it’s actually very therapeutic for me .. she’s the reason I’ve been wearing my natural hair .. it can def be hard knowing what to do but like she said , I’m going w a fro.. usually when I’m out the shower I put CANTU in and some oils and it def makes curly and for the first time it has the best curls I love it…. Thank you kat for being who you are and if you are scared to embrace your natural.. know who you are and wear that THANG♥️♥️

Emily Bennett: She is absolutely stunning. I love how vulnerable she was able to be

Emma Follett-Botha: My ignorance is showing... I had no idea that her hair on TVD wasn't her own. I almost cried with her when she got emotional about never being able to show the hair she was born with.

@vitorianameta Personal Trainer: LINDA! VOCÊ ARRASA! BRASIL TE AMA MULHER ❤

Kozmickhandi: Loved this ... hope to see more of her ❤️ especially on the hair journey...

Nenoshka Rodriguez: No one: Not a single soul: Kat: CaN YoU hEaR mE I love her

Hayat Saad: Love you Kat! You are a Queen and your natural hair is so special and beautiful.

Ava Nicole: when she said “i hope one day i can play a character that i actually look like” that made me so sad. she is so naturally beautiful! she doesn’t deserve to have to change for others, especially something that she can’t control. i love her hair so much. she deserves so much better.

kimzme: I always wondered what her natural hair was like watching her on tv❤️ beautiful

VR: Good for her! Such a talented person

Pepa Martín Olmo: she´s so sweet, I love how she shows naturally and talks openly about her hair and her feelings about it.

SAMRAWIT ALEMSEGED: Honestly don’t know what to say besides! I am in awe of her strength. She’s really been through it! I really enjoyed watching this because you can really see the joy she’s filled with through self discovery! Kat you are beautiful! Your hair is beautiful! I just want to bless your journey! You have a whole community here that’s behind you sis! I make natural Haircare content and hope that you’ll be able to find any of my videos helpful (not that you need it, because your doing great sis) thank you for sharing your routine with us! Blessing to you my Sis ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Shaquez Heyward: Don’t apologize Kat, Julie should be apologizing she treated you bad through the years of Tvd. That racist woman does not deserve you

Karli Lauren: Such a beautiful human, inside & out! ✨ I love her skin & hair, she glows. ✨

Bianca Florêncio: kat queria muito ter te visto com seus cabelos naturais em tvd, love you

Melody Noneyabussiness: Love Kat hopefully she'll get more tv roles in which she has some say in how her character is styled

JIYA SINGH: My fav girl Is here!! She just gives a strong empowered vibes that I live by I mean there are other strong actresses also but she just feels different I don't know how to explain it but she's so amazing and literally gives me vibes like she's saying "go girl you can do everything you want" idk but I love her alot!!

Selma Desta: This woman is being so stunning whilst also being so vulnerable. How refreshing. :)

S M: Love to see this girl start to learn about her hair and how to look after it. It's really touching

hazel 💗: She's the queen, she deserves the world n more n i love her flawless beauty! ❤

Shay Alexandra: I loved watching this. Kay is such a beautiful person with a beautiful soul. Her hair is so pretty. I’m happy she is embracing her natural hair. ❤️❤️❤️

Zombaaaay: This was the most touching of these Vogue beauty routine vids that I've seen. I never knew of this actress prior to this. After reading the comments, I think I'll binge watch the show she was on.

TheBonnieMonroeShow: Black girl hair is soooo emotional. Like... it is NOT a game. I felt her so hard when she was like, "Why am I crying over conditioner?" It's just that way sometimes. If you know, you know. We're a sisterhood, and we feel you. :-)

kekets: This video, and learning what she went through on the set of TVD, made me a permanent fan of Kat.
