Wow, i cannot believe this has happened again, so i had a client come in today. She had really curly hair, but her ends were super straight. She wanted bleach highlights, but looking at her hair, i knew something was wrong. She told me she'd been getting brazilian slash. Keratin treatments, but it just didn't, seem right because her hair was really curly near the root and mid shaft, and her ends were really really straight to me. That is a sign that she got a relaxer and she didn't even know it. I'M glad we didn't put any bleach and we did deep conditioning

Jessica Everard: I have curly hair, and my ends are straight too. I have never had relaxer or used any kind of keratin treatment. It’s purely from the over processing of bleach over the years. It’s normal with curls!

Máat Melanin: It wasn’t a relaxer it probably was the keratin treatment but also heat damaged my hair looks just like hers but has a lot of heat damage

Lidia Campaña: "she had beautiful curls" *proceeds to straighten*

ShardayMC: Or she has heat damage ... Heat protection is key with curly hair. Especially if you are doing a lot of straight styles.

Fufu issue: What does mean "deep conditioning " i can see you coloured and tonned

Blue Skies: That looked like heat damage to me. I'm no stylist but after I stopped relaxing & flat ironing/curling my hair it liked exactly like that on the ends. I transitioned for 11 months & that heat damage went away.

lisa kosinski: It is possible that the keratin/ Brazilian treatment became permanently straight if her hair was porous. I have experienced this with smoothing treatments on some clients. Similar to how a semi can become permanent on fine / porous hair. Beautiful end result

AQualms: "she has beautiful curly hair but straight ends" - keeps talking about the straight ends being bad - FLAT IRONS THE WHOLE THING?!??!! (as someone with curly hair and stylists for 10 years insisting on straightening it, I'm raging)

Maca: "I'm glad we didn't put any bleech"... and where did those highlights come from? Deep conditioning does not create highligts on the hair, c'mon

Anna Ackerman: This has happened to me when I was young. Went to this hair stylist who “deep condition” aka relax my hair before straightening it. Did this like 3 times before my mom notice. She claimed it was because my hair was “too hard to manage without it”. Never went to a hairstylist since.

Ashley Smith: Happened to me when I was young, my straight haired family convinced me to get an expensive keratin treatment on my curly hair but it was a relaxer, then I bleached it myself at home like I always did and it went weird

Jaymi McFall: This is why it’s important to be honest with your stylist(s) about previous services you have had. I know it sucks when you want to change your hair but not be able to due to the potential risks, but it’s worth the wait when this is the likely outcome. Stay safe

Karen Bee: It looks so pretty when done. I’m so glad you saved her! Hair is super important to femininity, even though we’re not supposed to be so vain. Ya see yourself in the mirror and you care, ya know. It does look lovely post-repair. Peppered blonde. Just beautiful

Amelia: I do keratin and brazilian treatments all the time, they’ve done wonders to my hair in terms of keeping it healthy. My hair got really damaged due to a bad coloring job and me flat ironing my hair while it was wet, but around 2020 I got my first Brazilian, and now it’s soo much healthier

Ne Sherrill Foster: This can also happen as a result of hormonal changes. I have had many clients go through psychological trauma and this happens, like child birth, divorce, death, illness, starting or stopping medication, etc. the end results were amazing and I believe you made the right call.

Sheika LoveBear ツ: I was thinking heat damage myself but who knows, these salons be so shady. Blow drying then flat ironing everyday will destroy your hair

PieceOfToast: "Wow I cannot believe this has happened again" Hair stylists doing whatever they want with a client's hair is not very hard to believe lol Glad you're one of the good ones

Mih: As a Brazilian I feel so sad this is happening with such frequency. I always got top-notch treatments back there and my hair would go from 3C to a 1A-1B during the 1st-2nd month, very sad to see people suffering without knowing when they clearly love their hair so much :/

Devilish Daiah: When I was about 8, I had that one friend who had lice but constantly tried playing with my hair even when I asked them not to. I ended up getting lice TWICE (once from them and again from another person). My mother and I tried EVERYTHING (lice treatments, vinegar, etc) and nothing worked. At some point we ended up going for the worst thing we could do: a relaxer. My hair was SUPER CURLY and really pretty but of course my curls were completely ruined after that. But that's not the fucking end of it because it didn't get rid of my lice. So you wanna know what did get rid of it? Bleaching my dark hair. We thought "oh well we've already ruined your curls so, I guess you can dye your hair." I ended up dying my hair a bright red and I loved it. Luckily my hair wasn't as damaged as we thought it was and my curls are slowly but surely coming back as long as I continue to follow my hair routine.

Samantha Gaboo: I have done both relaxers/keratin treatments, personally suffered major hairloss from both. The keratin treatment was great for about 2-3 months after that my already thin hair thinned more and needed a super short chop as I only had a rat tail for a pony. My last one was 2018.

Khulania Frost: I went natural (relaxer free) and my beautician asked if I wanted to get a keratin treatment. She said it was all natural and would help straighten my hair when heat is applied and my hair would naturally revert to curly. The lies!!! This was almost 20 years ago before hair info was at our finger tips. I had mid back length hair and cut all but maybe 3-5 inches.

Stacey With An E: As a stylist u should know don’t bleach relaxed hair and don’t relax bleach hair. It’s gonna completely obliterate the cuticle.

eziaa r: I've straightened my hair since I was 11 years old on my own. I remember alot of people telling me my hair would fall out by the time I'm 20. My hair still has its curlyness, no breakage and I've dyed my hair many colors, probably like 8 times. I do need a trim tho cuz of the little dead ends. My hair is really strong, I think because my dad is Jamaican and my mom is half Native half Portuguese!!!

Kaitlyn Lopez: I asked for my hair to be straightened like I always do and the woman decided to relax my hair. I didn’t know until she was blow drying my hair. My mom saw it and continued to get my hair relaxed after I told her multiple times that I wanted my curly hair back. Even when it was relaxed my hair would be very frizzy. After getting my hair relaxed for that last time my mom finally listened. Now it’s been 3 years and my hair is at shoulder length and my ends in the front are still straight. I would 100% not recommend! Unless you really want straight hair then I wouldn’t get it relaxed.

Ruth Calero: I experienced this damage with a leave-in conditioner for "blunt cut hair" I don't know what was in it but my hair took like 5 years to recover and grow it out since I have hips long hair and didn't want yo chop it all off. I'm still to this day fighting open hair cutticles and brittleness. I'm very careful of what I put in my hair now.

Santika Dewi: As a hairdresser for a few years, I agree that the hair has been done with relaxer and not Brazilian keratin, and she also did some bleach and color fix. I'm pretty sure it can be fixed with keratin after color correct.

Victoria Blends: My hair used to be like this and I never relaxed it. I went thru a long phase of straightening it for my job. Now my hair is FINALLY starting to curl at the ends and I have not cut it in over a year.

Krissy G: When hair stylist don't really know what they're talking about

baoooool: "progressiva" in Brazil, really does permanent damage and straightening like that. someone tell her that is not a keratin treatment...

Imani B.: That’s why I stopped getting blow outs. I was told that this specific hair salon I went to growing up When you ask for a deep condition, their conditioner had relaxer in it. My hair has never been this curly since I stopped getting it done at the salon!

Zombiepoptarts: Watching this and reading all these crazy comments is exactly why I learned how to do my own hair or will pay the 200 for a professional hairstylist with a high quality portfolio that specializes working with curly hair... No issues or damage or tears like when I let random stylists who think they know what they are talking about mess with my hair. Curls are nothing like straight hair, and there a variety or curls that all react differently. It's important to know your hair and it's needs.

Southern Pagan Princess: Actually Keratin Concept has been known to permanently straighten hair. I know because I used it on a super curly client who used the old deva curl and it literally permanently straightened her hair. Have used the same product on her several times before that and since then I’ve never had the same reaction its so weird but her hair was also super damaged after Covid and we used KC over the frizzy dry hair and it took until late 2021 to finally cut out all the straight hair.

Shamesha Jackson: WOW. Its happening to ALL textured hair. Thank you for this because I've only seen representation on this happening to us Black girls with Curls and Coils.

SK Bruning: Mad respect for stylists like you!

Seza Sarki: I had what was called a “Japanese thermal reconditioning” and it was AMAZING.

Koko Ni: Had this happen with a client of mine who was trying to grow out her natural hair She went to her cousins graduation in another state and got what she thought was a "blowout" but they put relaxer on her hair WHILE THEY WERE DOING HER BLOWOUT! SO IT NEVER GOT WASHED OUT! Cut to 2 weeks later and her ends were toast, she had a lovely round afro going on with lots of great length and we had to take most of it off. 2 years of growth down the toilet cuz some crappy "stylist" got lazy

Kimmy Rose: So good to see stylists that do what is right instead of what the client wants. It can usually end up in more damage to the hair!

Leila Woods: Hair has a memory. Sometimes if you get keratin Treatments over and over and the stylists flat irons the ends too much with every treatment the ends will become permanently straight but not damaged the way a relaxer would because it’s still a different chemical. Hair has memory and it’s possible for hair to become straight with too much flat ironing “heat damage.”

Stephani Mendes: Some Brazilian queratin brands offer this “ progressive “ effect , some fades away and some stay in offering you the option to retouch just that part that had grown .

nyasia vasquez: As a stylist u should know the keratin treatment makes the hair straight . Any chemical or curl altering styles will conflict damage to the hair . Theres no way to avoid damage when u excessively use heat & chemicals

S Barb: It’s a Japanese hair straightening called YUKO . It’s permanent and it’s amazing for people with frizzy curly hair that want glossy straight hair, and it costs about 600 dollars. How would she not know she had it done lol

Zoe S: A friend of mines hair used to look similar. She has beautiful ringlet curls but straightened it every single day. It ended up as ringlets in the top half and pin straight ends. She cut off the ends and now limits herself to only straightening her hair once-twice a week max (absolutely no more than once per wash) and her hair looks stunning again.

Essi2much: Thank you for caring we need more hair stylists like you ❤️

Sherry: This is a great stylist to recognize this. Great job and end result looks amazing

Cat Liz: I use to have completely straight hair but growing up they started changed, now from the roots till the shoulders they are straight 1b* and below that they are a long curl like how people get their hair done. I even have two a bit of wave on my front starting roots side. My hair are mostly straight though and they look great after I just clean and brush them.

Vixen_007: Keratin/Brazilian treatments can last for months which would explain the straight ends. However, you can still bleach previously relaxed/perked hair as long as it's been more than two weeks (the recommended wait time). None of what you said really made sense for a licensed professional.

E W: I got a brazilian blow dry as well and my hair looks exactly the same! About 1/5 of my hair is super curly and it looks horrible without heat styling what can I do to make my hair all the same texture again?

Ellie Reg: This literally happened to my hair when I went in a pool at a desert hotel. It looked and felt like ramen noodles after. Like someone had put WAYYYY too much chlorine in that water. Bc I’d been in pools and it never did that to my hair before

Chocolate Meese: This definitely looks relaxed. I had my hair relaxed a year and a half ago and my hair looks the same, curly top, straight ends. It's horrible

Syd :P: i have super curly hair near the roots of my hair but straight ends and i have never been to a hair salon or gotten any kind of hair treatment. my hair also hasn’t always been this way, it just started being like this 1 or 2 years ago and i’m still not exactly sure why.

Vie_xx: my mom used to have the same problem she always puts her hair up in a tight bun and she sometimes wore the bun to sleep over the months it was hard to not notice and by the end of the year she decided "new year, new you" so she invited over an old student and that old student fixed her hair and she was strictly told to not wear a bun for 9 months

Cheyenne Howell: Her hair was damaged that’s why it’s starlight. You have to cut it in order to get it back

Nizz LaLucy: Keratin treatments that are induced by high levels of heat usually relax the natural curl pattern. When the new growth resurfaces, their is difference in texture

The Bi of Kansai: I got an at home keratin treatment on my hair like 2 years ago and it looks almost exactly like her hair

Tyffanyelanee: I had a client come to me last year she told me she got a hot oil treatment on her hair and then colored it with box color. It looked like straw that was so blotchy. She wanted me to do a color and highlight on her and I continued to ask discovery questions with her because I knew something was done more then just box color and a hot oil treatment. After about 30 minutes of asking her questions she tells me she bough an at home relaxer kit and then used box color on it. When I took her hair out of her bun it was falling out as I brushed it. I told her I would not preform any chemical services on her hair but I’d be happy to do anything non chemical and she cussed me out and left.

Immortal Butterfly 🦋: I can’t feel bad most of these clients insist on being blonde then wanna sue ! Stylists should make clients sign disclaimers prior to service !

Rosie Green: Love hair dressers like this who cares enough to tell someone when their hair isnt healthy enough to do certian hair treatments.. ie. dye ,bleach ect.

Emma Brown: This same thing happened to me for years as a child. I thought that my hair was straight and when I found out I was PISSEDD!!

Jessica Rummage: To all those people questioning the highlighted hair yeah I don’t really know hair that well. Her hair is darker because it was wet she had highlights already in her hair the cosmetologist probably just put toner on it to give it a brighter look , trimmed it up, and then styled it after it dried.

AJ: You did such a great job! Loves it!

rogue culinarian: Going to "certain types" of salons, they will happily relax your hair without your consent or knowledge if its "too nappy" for them. I guarantee you they snuck relaxer into her conditioner. Most black and latina women who don't go to salons anymore, don't for this reason. It happens way too often and they will absolutely act like they don't know wtf you're talking about.

RCasey: So I’m about to experiment with this and try alessio with Brazilian and wait a few months to bleach/color. Is there any way to safely straighten and bleach hair? It seems like there’s a thousand opinions on what’s best I’ve seen so many celebs and influencers do it but even when I desperately dm, no one says how they manage to maintain bleached with straightening?! Like is Keri russel just getting back to back Brazilian? Wouldn’t her hair break from the protein!? Celebs are more like to talk about their lip injections than this sadly while I’m left experimenting and hoping to not have hair loss lol

Nabeelah Hendricks: My hair was just like that before I got the Brazilian treatment and I never used relaxer before. It's more likely heat damage.

T brown: That happened to me before. I went to Clara's in Brooklyn for a blowout and the lady put keratin in my hair without me knowing and my ends we so straight I had to cut everything off.

Mama D: Yall did a wonderful job on her hair! So pretty!

Maria Marquez: You do miracles! Great hair now ✂️

Trisha B: As a licensed cosmetologist you shouldn’t assume another stylist was to blame for the damage…… being as you don’t know exactly what happened you should only explain the hair is too damaged & put a plan in place to meet her hair goal. The end result looks beautiful tho! Good job ❤️

Jessica B: Same thing happened to me. I was so upset when I realized it was a straightner.

River Clark: Some people call demis and toners "gloss" that's probably where the color is coming from

M: My first ever haircut was great at first, but I soon noticed that after washing my hair that I lost the texture waves & curls. My hair has not been the same since & I don’t trust hair salons anymore

&zwnj: If by "Brazilian" treatment you mean progressiva, then this shouldn't be too much of a surprise, when I did it my hair was like that too(it's naturally curly) and it should be known to everybody that it does a lot of damage to your hair

Nohely Quinones: I have the same issue after I had my hair bleached

Green Ghoul: I've put relaxer and bleach in my hair and got the same results luckily my hair is short

Shibby_Dib: Y’all- Your hair becomes a darker color when wet She already had the highlights, her hair was literally damp. You can see the ombré of the highlights in the damp of her hair, it just isn’t as bright as it is dry. It’s literally how water works lmao

J j: Does anyone know how to remove keratin treatment? I did it a year ago and it was meant to washout in 4-6 months.

Danielle LeClair: What a difference. Amazing.

LIVIA NEVES: Progressiva infelizmente acaba com o cabelo ☹️

soneelita: That's what every hair dresser says,'' Oh the hair was so damaged.''

Rebecca Green: I lost all my hair because of a relaxer. She's lucky she still has hair

Hannah Jade: My stylist lifted my relaxed hair to blonde one time. It was horrible. My hair was falling out for months. It was so thin on the ends.

Fairytale: “She had really curly hair” My hair 3x times curly over here be like “soul leaves body “

Emily Lee: I think that the Brazilian txs Plus bleaching + heat styling + lack of balanced conditioning txs, over time caused the ends to have permanently broken disulfide bonds. All of these resulting in straight looking ends. The final color looks like you used a purple toner. Did you trim 2-3 inches off or did the client decline the offer?

Ashley Gesualdi: It might not be a relaxer, I actually had a client with hair exactly like this. The first time I did her hair she swore she never had a relaxer and I kept telling her that she must have had one at some point and she probably was either told it was something else or she just isn’t remembering correctly. Because I thought there was no way her hair could look like that and not have a relaxer in it or be extremely damaged. So I did some deep conditioning treatments and gave her a good cut and told her with time we would get the ends of her hair curly again. I did this girls hair for years after this and after many conditioning treatments and hair cuts her hair always stayed like this. It was just the way her hair was naturally!

kylie huff: My hair is naturally like that. I don’t use heat much and I rarely bleach my hair. Never used a relaxer

Mel S: Let’s be real it doesn’t matter how it got straight…it’s surely damage and reducing more damage will always help. She had highlights already and they show up after it’s dried. She definitely didn’t put more bleach on that woman’s hair. “Curly hair does that it’s not a relaxer” but curly hair does that when severely damaged regardless of what damaged it…it’s damaged.

Regina George: "Beautiful curls" "Damaged Hair" then you straighten it? "Glad we didn't put any bleach in" *shows her highlighted hair*

Melissa Collins: I hope people really understand the difference between relaxer and keratin treatment. They are definitely not the same.

Natural Mystic One: Yep I just told a friend of mine the other day you have to be careful because they will slip relaxer in instead of doing a simple blow out treatment.

Lucilene Fatarelli: I’m Brazilian so it’s good to know about the treatment

teresa hickey: Wow!!! THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL COLOR. I’m now wanting this end result.

The Straightening Queen: So many of my clients try to bleach their ends after I tell them it is not advised! They do not understand! Thank You for posting this!

🦝R@ccøøn_R3m@1ns🦝: I have curly hair but it was fully straight until I started taking care of it. It's probably just damage from the straightening and the highlights, idk how she would confuse a relaxer with a keratin treatment unless she just didn't read the bottle

Persian doll da 1st: In Brazil when we say keratin we mean relaxer

Taylor M: My hair did that too, but I never got a relaxer!

Zakariyya Brown: This happend to me, when I switched hair stylist she told me that my old hair stylist was putting a relaxer in my hair I never noticed because it was inside the shampo.

CandyCandy: If they have been charging her for keratin treatments they have ripped her off big time

Jasmine Cameron: “Brazilian” and “Dominican” hair salons have a bad reputation for this. I’m African American and I used to got to these places in high school. Long story short they were putting relaxer in my deep conditioning. I had to chop off all my hair and start all over again.

TIgre: Isn't the Brazilian Keratin treatment basically a "relaxer"? It just seems she had it a couple years ago.

Candice Chruscial: No I find the the preservative in keratin changes bonds permanently especially if they reinforce it with the flat iron at home! I’ve had this exact dilemma with curly keratin girls ‍♀️

J j: My hair was JUST like hers but it was due to hard water. I had to go to a doctors - the whole nine yards.
