Hey friends, it's a girl T and today's video is all about Ayurveda and hair care and how I like to do it we're the completely uninitiated. Ayurveda refers to Ayurvedic herbs, which are ingredients use more in Eastern medicine and healing, but Ayurveda and Ayurvedic techniques have been around for centuries and centuries and there's a whole host of herbs and plants that can be used to help heal the mind. The body, the skin. Whatever ails you and over the past decade or so, Ayurvedic ingredients have become more popular and sort of more mainstream hair care, certainly in the afro textured / natural hair care community. To the point where I'm seeing companies, I think, like even soft. She and Carlson has like an online, but there's so many Ayurvedic herbs out there. Amla is probably the most popular I would estimate, but there's so many others and forgive my pronunciation on these because for the most part I have not heard them pronounced by other people who actually know how to pronounce them. I'Ve heard them pronounced by other people. Like me, who are just taking their best guess some other popular Ayurvedic herbs for hair care include Brahmi neem, shikaku green brush also called maca Kapur Khatri henna, cassia, fenugreek, Tulsi Aretha, sometimes just called retha. Needless to say, there's a lack encourage you to use the internet. Clearly, you have internet access if you're watching this video, so if you're interested in Ayurveda, it's definitely worth doing some research and kind of educating yourself on the different herbs and seeing which ones might be a good fit for you. I also encourage you to check out the Duchess Gabrielle's channel she's, another youtuber she's. Also a businesswoman she's got her own boutique line of haircare products. It'S really just some moisturizing oils and cream, but she's so smart. I think she's actually studying chemistry, so she's. Definitely a really excellent resource for learning about Ayurvedic haircare in a visual way, because she's done tons of videos on various ingredients, and I will link her channel below now they're all kind of on the same page, I want to move into how I like to incorporate Ayurveda into my haircare, I started incorporating Ayurvedic techniques and ingredients and practices into my haircare. I would say, as far back as 2010, when I first decided I wanted to grow my hair out. I stumbled across the use of Ayurvedic ingredients fairly early on in this whole experiment, and I have been using them ever since the first and probably most DIY way to incorporate Ayurvedic ingredients into your haircare is to use just that ingredient itself. You can buy powdered Ayurvedic herbs online; sometimes you can get them from local, Indian grocery stores. Depending on where you live, I reckon the most popular brand is Heche. I will not buy Heche. Some years ago there was a recall of Heche powders because they found ratchet in the product. That is not defamatory. That is what happened. You can look it up so yeah. I don't buy that brand. Some other brands you might want to check out our locksmiths cupboard. She is, I think, a one-woman show, so all her packaging is pretty straightforward is just kind of a plastic bag with a label on it. This is green garage. Another place to check out is good. All Mountain Rose herbs. Most of us who are sort of into the DIY aspect of hair care and or skin care, have heard of this place. If you watch a lot of YouTube videos, this is a pound of Amla powder that I got from them. They also sell whole Amla and then another sort of off-the-shelf brand is seasons, and this one I think I bought from a local Indian grocery store here in LA this - is again amla powder, but, as you might be able to hear it's like in a plastic bag. Inside but almost completely out, which is why I've got that back up for mountain rose herbs. The powders can be very tricky to use they're very easy to use, depending on how you decide to use them, can go as simple as picking one mixing it with water and applying it as a pace or mud to your hair and scalp, and just doing that. They make tea bags that are okay for use with either loose herbs or powder, so you can put a teaspoon or a few different types. You know in the tea bag and in make an infusion of either just water or infuse an oil up to you. The main way I like to use powders is, I basically take equal amounts of the ones I like, and I just combined them all, and then I make kind of a super-secret sauce, which is what I have in here, I'm nearly out and I need to mix Them more up yeah. This is pretty much done in here. I'Ve got one more use left, I would say - and this is just a mix of Amla Brahmi bhringraj Kippur country, and I think that's it. I think i just use equal amounts of those for herbs. Put that in here and on each wash day or that I want to use it I'll just take, say a tablespoon sift. It and I'll put that in my deep conditioner. That'S it really quick, really easy way to incorporate the powders without the mess. My personal two favorite pairs are Breen garage and Amla, based on the claims of what they do for hair and scalp. So those are the two that I reach for the most so you'll see those two popping up the most frequently as I go through the products that I show you guys today. The next favorite way that I like to incorporate Ayurveda into my hair care routine, is through the use of oil infusions. As I indicated in the first round with the powders / herbs, I don't have any loose herbs to show you guys, but if you've had some, you could use the powder or the loose herbs to make your own oil infusion. Whether you did a cold infusion, where you just put everything in a jar and let it infuse over the course of several weeks or you could make a hot infusion where you actually use a crock-pot or some other heat source to make. It happen a little bit faster for you. I'Ve done both in the past. I ain't got time for the Hat. I'D. Much rather just buy a premade oil infusion, which is what I do now. I'M just gon na quickly run through a few that I like. The first is vertical oil. This is Vatika frosting from hairveda. They call it frosting because it smells like frosting, they add fragrance to it and it's it seriously smells like vanilla frosting. This is probably my third jar of this stuff. I absolutely love it. I'Ve been using it for years and years it's a coconut oil base as fatique oil generally is. You can get this boutique oil there's another, probably far, more famous boutique oil that comes in a green bottle, which I have used for years and that I love, but I just don't have any right now. Batiko oil is always infused with henna, and sometimes there will be other herbs incorporated as well, that are Ayurvedic and it's just a really easy way to get that Ayurvedic aspect into my hair care routine. You can use this oil any way you like you can use it as a pre-poo. A sealant add some to your deep conditioner, whatever you want, and by the way, that's true for all the other oils, I'm about to show you it's really just an efficient way to get that Ayurvedic ingredient into your routine or even a bunch of Ayurvedic ingredients depending On the oil you choose, and I would say it's probably the most convenient way to be able to do so consistently, because you can add some oil to your hair, pretty much any time you feel like it. It doesn't mean that you need to deep condition your hair or pre-poo your hair. You can just put some on your scalp if you want to before bed. If you owe your scalp, of course, some people do some people, don't another Ayurvedic oil. I love is neem oil. This one is from mountain rose herbs. Neem is a great lensing herb. So this is one that I like to add to either my mud washes or to my deep conditioners, really to kind of keep my scalp clean, fresh and happy. It'S just like a little extra on the cleansing front. Probably my favorite Ayurvedic oil is from Lakshmi's cupboard. It is the Baha Fattah oil. This particular one is a limited edition, one where she did the infusion in coconut oil. Her normal one is in castor oil. I love that one too. I repurchased it a handful of times, but I picked this coconut oil one up when she had it available because of duh obsessed with coconut oil side bar. It did not come with this applicator tip. I put this on myself. I love this oil because it's basically an all-star oil in terms of ingredients, whether it's the coconut oil, one that I have or the normal, castor oil, one that she has. It has Amla bhringraj, Brahmi, neem, shikaka, marshmallow calendula and vitamin E, so you're getting one. Two. Three four: five different Ayurvedic herbs in one oil. It really is a heavy hitter, but if you like things that are a little bit more targeted and focused - and sometimes I do depending on what my needs are or desires, are that particular day or that particular wash day, she also has almond oil. This is in a castor oil base and, of course, bhringraj oil. This is also in a castor oil base. As I mentioned, these two herbs in particular, are my favorite herbs. So that's why keep popping up? This is a shikaka herbal hair oil from hairveda. This is mostly castor seed oil, but it's also that almond oil, some and some other oils in here - I'm not really gon na - go through the whole ingredients list, but I love this one. Similarly, to the way, I love the neem oil to kind of boost the cleansing, because shikaka is really good for cleansing. So this is another one that I love to add to mud washes or if I want a little bit more cleansing to continue during my deep conditioning process, I'll chuck it in there. But really you can use this anytime. You want, even if you want to just kind of refresh your scalp without washing your hair. You could probably put a few drops of this on your scalp if you wanted to during the week or just use it as a sealant, because a lot of people love castor oil to seal their hair, quick honorable mention I have not tried this one yet I Just picked it up, but this is from Camille rose natural system business. This is the cocoa nibs and honey ultimate growth, serum and it's got Ayurvedic Brahmi and oils. So once I saw that I figured it was worth a try. I am very excited to try this out. It'S got virgin Amla oil sesame seed, oil virgin, coconut oil virgin jojoba oils. I'M not entirely sure what virgin olive oil means, because I don't think you can just have straight Ammal oil. I think you have to infuse omelette into some other carrier oil. Nonetheless, the ingredients list for that one looked pretty good. Camille Rose. Naturals is a brand that I've just sort of been discovering over the past year or two I've known about them for forever, but just started trying their products relatively recently, and I really have liked some of them so far. So I'm excited to give that one. A try and that honorable mention in the oils category segues perfectly into the final category, which is products that just already have Ayurvedic in them now, of course. To some extent, those oils would count as that, but really I'm referring more to conditioners or shampoos or product products rather than oils. There are lots of brands on the market now that are making deep conditioners and other products that already have Ayurvedic ingredients in them, which I love, because it just saves me the hassle of having to add them. In myself, my number one favorite conditioner, that incorporates ayurvedic ingredients is not in stock at my house right now. It is the natty koopa, sue and russell deep conditioner. That conditioner is so good and it's got the added benefit of having Russell play in it. So it really helps to keep my hair detangled and defined after I finished detangling it before my wash day. The conditioner is fairly like lightweight and texture, but it's got so much slip. So it's really easy to apply, and I remember the first time I use it. It felt so lightweight that I was just like this isn't gon na moisturize, my hair, but as I started applying it, I was just like. Oh my god. Yes, it is, I could just tell it - was gon na be really good for my hair, and it was so good that I actually remember jumping on my computer to order another jar of it while it was still sitting in my hair. It was that good. I haven't Reece oft on it recently because both times I purchased, including that time where I was just like impulse buying more, it was during a sale and the conditioner is quite expensive. So I'm planning to stalk her site around Black Friday and hopefully pick up some more because that is one that I really like to have in my stash. There'S also a deep conditioner from Lakshmi's cupboard that has a ton of Ayurvedic ingredients in it, which I reviewed in this washday video. If you would like to check it out and then there's also this pomade from Kemet biologics, this isn't a deep conditioner. This is sort of not quite in oil - it's basically hair grease, but it's there Amla oil nourishing pomade, and you can use this. However, you would normally use a pomade, sometimes they'll use a little bit of that just to kind of tame my edges and tie a scarf down. Y'All know I don't really lay my edges cuz. I don't really have edges anyway, that products great for that or if I really want to just like kind of be old school and grease my scalp like if I've got box, braids or something - and I feel like my scalp - is feeling a little dry, even though It was so terrible back in the day, because we were basically putting straight petroleum and mineral oil on my scalp, it's nice to have a product, that's actually well formulated for our stuff like this and to know it's got Amla in there already. To recap, my three favorite ways to incorporate Ayurveda into my hair care, routine straight up using Ayurvedic herbs of in powder form generally, but you can also sometimes find them as like loose herbs using an Ayurvedic oil infusion or using a product that just already has it. In there for me like a deep conditioner or shampoo or whatever, and that's pretty much it so I hope that this video was helpful for those of you who are interested in Ayurveda, but don't really know where to start. Let me know if you use any of the products I mentioned or, if you're going to check them out, and I will see you guys in the next video bye, bye, nappy-headed, Arthur

Lakshmi's Cupboard: Thanks so much for the youtube love NHJ!! Happy to be part of your regimen:) Dropping a special 15% OFF coupon for your viewers - use NHJOJOBA at checkout on your orders.

Shaquana Andrews: Used Camille Rose's oil and it was amazing. I had a bald spot in front of my head...put a little bit of that oil on the spot also the area around it. My spot grew back within 4 weeks. It was also used for pre poo and sealing. Love it...still using by the way.

Intentional Adulting: I mix my own ayurvedic oil because it's so fun to make your own :-) Loving it so far. Used curly proverbs' recipe but changed a few things up to suit what I know my 4c hair already likes.

Azama Kayipu: Very well done. The things curly proverbs never told us. Got me out here looking high and low for all these separately to mix at home. Meanwhile, there are pre mixed products out here. You don't have to tell me twice. ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️

Tamia Greene: 75% of my regimen is aruyveda based and mostly diy. It can be exhausting but is totally worth it. I try to have my mixups prepped before wash day. I am conservatively adding in some store brought products in hopes of having other methods to rely on outside of my diy mixtures. It can be challenging but I am always excited to try the next best thing!

BZ: This video came at the perfect time, when I've been hitting a hair health/hair growth wall. BLESS. I appreciate how you were so straightforward and clear about what you use, how you use it and gave us more than enough options to check out. I think I'll try buying some of the powders and making my own concoction to use in the deep conditioners as well as some of the oil infusions because those seem doooooppppeee. Thanks so much for this upload! Much appreciated

TheEagleslover: The timing of this video could not be better. I was just getting ready to do an Ayurvedic treatment prior to my henna touch up and wanted to be sure I was working with current information. I will definitely be looking at purchasing the castor oil infused blend. Thanks for offering up some great companies that provide natural products.

Kisha Anderson: Lakshimis Cupboard is one of the newer brands for my hair care routine. You featured in an earlier video about black owned hair businesses. My hair responds differently when using ayurvedic products. When I bought it I didn't really have a clue about ayurvedic. I purchased off recommendation. However, after using for the past two months my hair feels less dry and stronger. I'm still learning the right mix of products, but very pleased with the results.

twinfree78: Since this video, can you update us with your thoughts on the camille rose serum? I've been using it for a couple of months and I like the consistency. I like that it's light and smells pleasant vs my DIY mixture of jbco, olive/avacado, and vitamin e oil. It did initially cause my scalp to itch, but others have made claims that it had the same effect on them at first and then went away... not sure if that means its removing toxins or just having a negative reaction to one's scalp lol... but interested to hear your thoughts.

PixelatedTwix: I’ve been following CurlyProverbz and her Ayurvedic care videos have literally saved my hair journey!!

Trinii1: I could not find the brand of Henna I would normally use, but the Indian store had the Hesh brand, so I purchased it. Not too much put off by what you said because I have been using all the other Ayurvedic herbs by Hesh, and they have not failed me yet. This will be my first time using Hesh Henna. I love Nupur Henna because it has a mixture of Ayurvedic herbs.

Aye Bellez: This video was so helpful because I've wanted to incorporate Ayurvedic products into my hair regimen but really didn't know where to stop. This gives me ideas of what I want to try and the different forms I'd want to buy them in. I actually trust your judgment and opinions so I'm gonna just go for it. Thanksss!

Kaiea Rohlehr: This was right on time, gurl. This is why I love you. I am out of almost everything. Deep conditioner, I can't find Darcy's Botanical's leave-in (that was my holy grail for over 5 years) and I wanted to revisit Ayurvedic treatments since I am growing my hair out. So thanks for the Natty Cupuacu mention. Gonna order it and give it go! I only ever used Henna and I think Amla powder. Don't know if they worked since back then I tried everything. Now I know what my hair likes but I wouldn't mind giving it the ol college try. Thanks again. And loving the "let's Dance, Donna Summer" tease you are serving. cuidate

MzKinkyCurl: I’m surprised you didn’t mention Curly Proverbz or Belle Bar Organics. This is a great video!!!!

Géraldine Laure Assen: Thank you for this introductory video on ayurveda! I was excited when I saw you holding the Camille Rose Oil bottle. I started using their products 6 months ago and was blown away! Most moisturizing products I've ever tried!!! But I stopped going to the salon a year ago and was unable to maintain a good moisture protein balance. As a result, my overelastic hair kept breaking and shedding... :-( Long story short, last month I started using the Aphogee products, doing daily scalp massages, and oiling my scalp with the Camille Rose Oil. But with so many new practices in my regimen, it's a bit difficult to know how effective the oil is on its own. If you ever feel like sharing your thoughts on it after you've tried a few times, it'll be appreciated. Since I lack experience with ayurvedic oils I'm not quite sure how to tell wether or not they are effective. ;-)

Alison Zunguze: Ayurveda, is a game changer in hair care. Love alma, henna, fenugreek and the head massage techniques.

Amanda S Graham: Yes ma'am! Natty naturals is the bomb! I have used her products for ten years! Sometimes I stray but I still end up back with natty. Those products have never failed me!

Noir Mariposa: I found mountain rose herbs back in 2003 when I decided to make a hair treatment for my daughter’s scalp . I haven’t purchased much from them lately but I sure will be going back now bc I trust them .

Leah McLean Tewari: Wow! This is video is amazing!!! I have the Camille Rose and it’s really good! I also use 100% Amla oil (like an essential oil) and I add drops to everything from shampoos to conditioners. I also use the Natty Naturals Leave-In (Lemongrass). I have the Qhemet Biologics and that’s also another great one. I love your videos, they’re so informative!

Katrina Lark: Thanks for this video! This has helped me to realize that I can easily add Ayurvedic herbs to my routine now! I had been so lazy about it -thinking it would just be so messy. da

K Love: I'm loving this look on you!!! Very nice And thanks for the info about ayurvedic hair care!!! I need to get into it and see what results I can get as far as growth!! Great tutorial ✌

Onetallgirl: I love hash alma powder! My hair loves that hesh powder. I've been retaining so much length and experiencing significantly less breakage since  I started using hesh alma powder earlier this year as a deep conditioner. Rat sh#$t definitely helps hair growth! Lol j/kBut seriously, I'm interested to see how you like the Camille rose product and I was wondering if you could do a review after you have used it?

Lenae Dyse: Have you ever used Bamboo powder? I plan on combining it with the other ingredients in my conditioning process.

Rhonda Denis: I love your channel so much. I started using Aryuveda this year. It has really been amazing. The only drawback is that it is time consuming. I look to trying a few of the oils that you suggested. Maybe I can use them to shorten my routine. Lol

Nap Freedom215: I love DIY, so my mason jars are loaded right now infusing the goodness! Great video very informative!

ChloeRaeofSunshine: I love your videos!! Do you have one on your weekly routine like what you do to maintain your hair between wash day?? Also I've started oil pulling again w00t! Bout to get tooth polish too

Lenae Dyse: I just made my own Alma oil. Does sifting your powders and then mixing it with your conditioner take out the grittiness?

Dear Loran 💜: Hey hun! I have this wig as well. What do you wash it with to get the curls to pop?

Organic Chic: Can you use Ayurvedic oils in your everyday or every week daily growth without washing them out?

Hila Tukurian: Do you incorporate ayurvedic supplements into your diet as well?

MyNaturalMyChoice: Very helpful video and I use all the herbs you shared in your video. Have a wonderful day

Naomi Rachel: I had no idea about this method of hair care, but ive been using vatika and alma for years. it's quite amazing! Neem oil is good too

alleycatfire: Nice vid ❤️ I haven't used Ayurvedic products/herbs in a while-may revisit it, though it may take some research to make sure I'm applying properly now that I'm in my loc journey. Infusing the herbs in a "tea" might be a fun experience and limit the risk of build up. Much luv!

Nap Freedom215: Just bought my haul! I love henna and amla, plus a host of others! Mountain Rose is my fav!

Neesh M: Ahhh, your wig!! Yasssssss! I made the mistake, a long time ago of using neem oil as a oil refresher on a 4 day twist out. I will never forget the smell. Maybe I will try again during a deep conditioning session but my nose is still traumatized. Lol.

Tynnetta M: Awws I have Hesh Amla . I’m so happy you mentioned Natty Naturals, I used to watch her videos when I first went natural! I think she stopped making videos or something but I’m excited she has a store!!!

Anita Norris: Where do you get the coconut cream from? Not finding it in the description box.

Tiffany Gantt: I love brahmi and bhringraj Camille rose òil is amazing and got amazing growth camille been in rotation since 2014 when i transitiined

Celia Ford: You should try 'Jakaela Ayurvedic Parfaid' (store on Etsy). I think you would really like it.

Sam MK: Hey girl! How’s the Camille Rose Oil coming along? I’ve been deliberating whether or not to get it.

tatianathekiDD93: Do you have any suggestions for shampoos with ayurvedic oils?

Nakeita Mayers: I'm so happy you did this video :)

D Harmon: Thank you for listing the places to buy herbs.

OSIR: You're makeup looks amazing

Mia B: Great video. I needed this!

Nat: I get such a bad reaction to coconut oil. Can you make a video of what you like to use but without coconut oil in it. I know you love coconut oil but if you have anything without it.

Tracy: I love the Camille naturals hair oil it has that MSM in there. I went back to that about 3 4 times. Does that neem oil stink like dead barbecue? Cause the brand I bought omg I can't disguise it. I bought the powder instead.

Healthoverlength: Thank you so much for this video!

AstroGirl: could you use the bhringjai powder as a face mask? i ask because of the notorious indian healing clay that is used on hair and sometimes as a mask. thanks for the video!

Daethaqt3000: I really want to try the lakshmi products. My hair and scalp needs it.

Mel S: USDA allows for a certain amount of rat hair/excrement in regulated food items.

Keda’s Black Alliance: The first time I saw you was the Collider Movie Talk...I was happy there was a black woman on there...it was like weeks later after I saw you on there that one of your hair videos popped up on my suggestions list and I almost lost my mind... I was so happy that you do natural hair videos...I’m a big fan of your since then and now...sometimes I feel like I’m the only black woman that knows and love movies and comics...‍♀️...love this video and miss you on movie talk
