How To Make A Keratin Treatment For Natural Hair

The high percentage of keratin combined with the glycolic acid solution helps strengthen and smooth hair. This process is similar to a Brazilian blowout treatment without the release of harmful aldehydes. Be sure to follow the use instructions for best results!

Equipment You’ll Need

• Measuring cups

• Mixing bowls

• Thermometer

• Stick blender/ High shear mixer

Ingredients

• 2 Cups (61%) Basic Conditioner https://goo.gl/CyQR7y

• ¼ cup (15%) keratin https://goo.gl/drVkhM

• ¼ cup (15%) glycolic acid solution https://goo.gl/owj31u

• 1 Tbsp (2%) vegetable glycerin https://goo.gl/Hzhtyz

• 1 ½ Tbsp (3%) marula oil https://goo.gl/ooWV4E

• 1 ½ Tbsp (3%) avocado oil https://goo.gl/Hf9NyU

• 1 Tsp (1%) konjac powder https://zurl.co/e6Rt

Customizing

1. Gently heat using stove top or microwave 2 Cups of Basic Conditioner to 180F and remove from heat.

2. In a separate container, combine ¼ cup keratin and ¼ cup glycolic acid solution

3. Add the keratin and glycolic mixture to the heated Basic Conditioner while mixing with a stick blender or high shear mixer until fully blended.

4. Add 1 Tbsp vegetable glycerin, 1 ½ Tbsp marula oil and 1 ½ Tbsp avocado oil and continue mixing.

5. Slowly add 1 Tsp konjac powder by sprinkling into mixture while continuously mixing with stick blender or high shear mixer.

6. Mix until all ingredients are well blended.

7. Once the conditioner has cooled to room temperature, pour into bottles or back into original ½ gallon container.

Directions for Use

1. Apply after thoroughly cleaning hair. We recommend using Deep Cleansing Natural Hair Shampoo (https://youtu.be/DRrpF4vlNtY) or Vital Skin Face & Body Wash.

2. Squeeze out excess water and apply a generous amount of the Keratin Treatment.

3. Leave on for 15 - 20 minutes.

4. Lightly rinse hair, just enough so that the Keratin Treatment is no longer visible.

5. Gently towel dry hair. If you want to let your hair air-dry, you will notice the shine and smoothness, but your curls should be intact and bouncy.

6. For straightening hair, blow dry completely until hair is completely dry.

7. Once hair is completely dry, use a straightening iron on high heat (410F or higher for best results).

Hi welcome to kitchen chemistry with essential wholesale in labs. I'M Tina, qey and today I'll be showing you how to make a keratin hair treatment at home to get started. So I left my hair down normally you'll, see me with a hairnet on in these videos, and I left my hair down to show you how nicely this treatment works. So this is day 4 after the treatment, and you can see my hair is still fairly smooth, and this is just with blow-drying. I did not use a flat iron on my hair. My hair is normally pretty wavy, but this treatment works so well with just the blow-dryer that I stopped there and didn't use the flat iron. So I'm gon na get my hairnet on and we'll get started. Making the keratin hair treatment, ok to get started. You'Ll need some ingredients, you'll need the basic hair, conditioner 1/4 cup of keratin hydrolyzed keratin protein 1/4 cup of glycolic acid one and a half tablespoons of marula oil and one and a half tablespoons of avocado oil, 1 tbsp of glycerin and 1 tsp of konjac powder. So the first thing that we have to do is heat up our basic conditioner, which I've already started doing you want to heat it up to 180 degrees, which it looks like we're just about there. I'M going to take this off the heat and set it aside. Then I'm going to combine the hydrolyzed keratin protein and the glycolic acid. So this is a 10 % glycolic acid solution that we make here and we're just going to put those two together and you'll need a high shear mixture or stick blender, and you want to put it on low and you're going to mix while you're, adding your Ingredients so we're going to add the hydrolyzed keratin protein and glycolic acid mixture first, and you want to make sure that's well blended before you start adding your other ingredients. So I'm just going to mix that for a minute here. Okay, next I'm going to combine the avocado oil marula oil and the vegetable glycerin, and I'm just going to give that a quick, little quick, little stir to make sure it's all nice and blended together and same thing. I'M going to add that to my conditioner as I'm mixing. Okay, so now the tricky part, the konjac powder. So if you were to dump this in just directly just as is and try to mix it in you're, probably going to get lumpy little globules of stuff that you don't want so the way to avoid that is to mix so turn your mixer on and then Lightly sprinkle the konjac powder in letting it hydrate as you're mixing it so don't dump it in a big glob, just let it kind of sprinkle in and once you have that in there you can turn your mixer up to high and really get it mixed in There so you'll notice that the konjac powder starts to add some viscosity to your conditioner. So once you notice that viscosity starting to build you can test your product and make sure that everything is dissolved properly and if not, you can continue to mix. So I'm just going to take a spoonful here and take a look at it and I don't see any globules or granules in there. So I think it's pretty pretty well mixed, I'm just going to mix it a little more for good measure and it's that easy. Once you're once you're happy with how well everything is mixed together, you want to let this cool down to room temperature and then package it off in your bottles and you're ready to use your at home keratin hair treatment. The best way to use this is to wash your hair thoroughly check our deep cleansing, natural hair shampoo recipe for a shampoo recipe that will wash your hair really well and then add your a very thick amount. A lot of the keratin hair treatment to your hair. Leave it on your wet hair for 15 minutes rinse lightly. You just basically want to wash it just rinse it until there's, no more white in your hair and once once that happens, it's okay! If the rinse water is still a little cloudy, you want that. That'S good squeeze your hair out and blow-dry it straight, and that's your at-home hair keratin treatment. We hope you enjoy that you can find links to all of the ingredients used in this video in the description by clicking the more button right under the video and thanks for joining us.

Cindy Robinson: Hi. Does this treatment last only until your next shampoo, or will it last through multiple shampoos? How often do you recommend doing this treatment.
