Lush Seanik Shampoo Bar Review: Will It Destroy My Hair? (Ps. I Have Greasy/Oily Hair)

**Are shampoo bars worth your money? --- Plus new Lush cork pot review!**

In the interest of being more sustainable, I've decided to try out one of the Lush shampoo bars on my hair! I used it for 2 weeks, every day or every second day, and continued using my own conditioners to act as a control in this experiment.

If you're interested to see how I got on, and whether the shampoo bar killed my oily/greasy hair or not, keep watching!

I am also planning to use the bar until it's finished, so I will record a short video of my final FINAL thoughts when that happens and you'll find the link here!

#NotSponsored #Sustainability #ShampooBarReview

Hi, my name is Elaine and in today's video I'm gon na be finding out if lost shampoo bars are worth your money. So recently you may have noticed a theme of sustainability on my channel and I've been creating a little bit of content around that topic. But the latest area that I want to tackle is my reliance on plastic bottles. When it comes to my beauty products. This particular move is inspired by one of my favorite podcasts, which is called the state of us and, if you're a female in your late 20s early 30s, particularly if you live in Dublin, this podcast would be really relevant to you. So I'm gon na stick a link to it down below in a recent episode. They spoke about sustainability, particularly in relation to fashion. However, two of the girls talked about shampoo bars in it and explained that they had been using it on their hair. So I decided in the interest of science or reviews for my channel. I wanted to review one of the lost shampoo bars, so I've been using it for two weeks and I'm planning to use it until the bar ends. But if you'd like to find out if it killed my hair, please keep watching. So the particular shampoo bar that I used is this one, which is lush scenic shampoo bar. I decided to go into the shop and ask the girls in the shop. What would suit me? So I spoke to a really nice girl and I told her that I tend to have greasy roots. My hair gets greasy and oily very fast. I also would have liked a little bit of dryness towards the end, because you can see it's died, a bit of body ash and I also talked about she asked me about my scalp and I said that I can be prone to little breakouts from the oil And a little bit of dryness, but that tends to be more stress-related or hormone related, so she gave me an option of two bars. She said I would either suit the jumping juniper bar, which you think is a purple color or this one, which is scenic, and the reason that I went with this one is the cars it has sea salt in it, which is designed to give you a bit Of root lift, and I find that, if my roots, my hair, can get a little bit flat at the roots if it's too well conditioned. I guess so. I wanted to get something that would maybe keep my hair up off the roots and then possibly in Pirie mean that I wouldn't have to wash it so often. So that's why I went with this one. You can see it's like a blue colored bar with little bits of seaweed in it and smells incredible if you've ever used. The rub rub rub body scrub. It has that scent and a similar color. So, in terms of the ingredients that are in this one, so the key ingredients are Irish, moss gel, which is made from bushy red seaweed. Japanese, nori seaweed, fine sea salt and lemon oil and then the sense that our inish are Jasmine. Orange flower, essential oils and mimosa, and it just mmm, it smells so lovely first thing in the morning. The main reason that I want to try this out was less about whether it would be good for my hair, but actually from the sustainability point of view. So the reason that shampoo bars are so good is that when you are finished with this shampoo bar and you've used it all up, it's gone, there's no plastic packaging that you need to recycle or dispose of, and I think they say that if you - because it's A concentrated version, it's kind of the equivalent of about two bottles of shampoo and you can get up to 80, washes with us. Now they used to give you a tin holder, but when I went in, they no longer had the tin holders. They had beads, which are a cork posh, so you can see it's like a piece of cork that has been caught to create a pot and what's good about these, and the reason that they decided to move to the cork part is because, when you're finished with This this is 100 % biodegradable, so you can just throw this into your own compost bin, which means you know, you're not left with a tin that you're trying to figure out what you're gon na do it. It'S also great, then, if you start using shampoo bars for a bit and you stop for whatever reason this is all fully recyclable, so you haven't left a huge stamp on the environment. These are relatively new as far as I'm aware. So at the end of this, I will give you my reviews on this as a product and whether or not I think that it's good, so obviously sustainability aside, one thing I was concerned about was the effect that this product would have on my hair. So a couple of things that I was worried about is that it would be too cleansing and too drying to my scalp on my roots, which would in turn make hair more oily, because, if you strip out the oils too often out of your hair, your hair Will try to produce more oils in theory, and so that was something that I was concerned about. Also because I have the dyed ends. I was worried that it would dry those X and, as I mentioned before, I get random scalp issues, usually from stress or hormones or if I use dry shampoo actually is another another thing that I can get it. So I I was kind of conscious of that that if this was quite cleansing and drying, it may dry out my scout. So that's another thing that I was looking at for, but obviously the only way to know whether it would suit my hair beyond reading reviews, and maybe thinking that you're similar to somebody else is to try it out. So here's me using it for the first 24 hours. Okay, so I'm in the shower. I'Ve got my shampoo bar with me and the instructions, for it say that you need to wet your hair fully and then you watch the shampoo bar and you either lather it in your hands or you rub it into your hair. So I'm going to see which one works better and then you massage it in and then you've to leave this to dry, so we're gon na see how this goes door opens what's good about. This is that I would often find that I can't get that. I put this over the top. I can't wander my hair, so this way I can do enough and then it's up to me two years ago. Well, that's pretty nice cuz they're, decent motherhood. Hmm just for context as I do my hair at Romans, diving on stats, dude, wait the grassy shoes, oh, that he was just hanging or calling the grass lately. Oh yeah. It'S super daddy in this game. Okay, Darrin you're into breakfast and then at use whatever conditioner, so I'm just using my regular conditioner, because I want to make reviews on your body, then hmm. Well, I just want to use my recommendation X. I want to see, I don't want to use two new products, because if I use two new products and we'll know a lot suits my hair and what doesn't and so yeah. So I don't know you can hear this. We can't hear what it's like speaking. That'S one thing: it's slightly concerning to me: cuz. It feels quite dry at the back, but it feels very dry and but it could be because it's quite naughty because, like with it, was a lather it up quite a lot. But that's the only thing like it's really looks, quick II think what I'm gon na play my conditioner. So at the moment, I'm using a mixture of this Guardian mask which I use maybe twice a week and then the other one is this Guardian of daily coconut oil conditioners. So I think, for today I'm gon na just use the coconut one cuz, I'm more of a left and I can use my hair is normal, my condition kinda from the ends, and then I will see you in a matter so conditioned my hair and it feels As normal as any other shampoo would so it's gon na see what I'd like to protect you a little bit not here. I actually think that's because I got like a better scrub. No, it's actually too bad come on I've quite easy. So the way my hair is caught at the moment, I have to start it every day and all the way it just sticks out and normally, when I had longer hair in the summertime I used to never stolid. I use just let it dry naturally, but I don't really have that luxury at the moment. So I'm just gon na stick in my parting and then what I tend to do is I put on my makeup: got everything else ready and then I dare not to go and drive her hair. So I'll see you in probably another half an hour and then I'll be ready to her hair, we'll see what it's like. So that's my hair blow-dried after using the shampoo with the first time, it's meant to give you kind of more body at the top and like it has a little bit. My hair was never my hair's ever hugely flatbush and I guess a little bit of more lifted inish the rest of it feels fine does appear to dry or anything I'm having issues. At the moment. I had like a really itchy kind of scalp. The last couple of days, I think I got my head burnt, so be interested to see. If it a great that and then one thing I'm noticing is, I was worried that it'd be quite drive. It'S actually quite sleek, like there's a couple of little baby here. Instead of their bush, it's kind of more sleep than it's been I'm using normal shampoo. So I see how that lasts, like this is Joss styled with a brush and which is not there's no the most hold of my hair, and it also has kind of brought out my highlights and it's really shiny, as you can see there so so far, I'm Actually quite impressed with this and I'll come back this evening and show you what it looks like kind of after being out in the day and then and tomorrow, I'm gon na try and not wash my hair. So I'll show you how greasy it is and see. If I need to wash it so it's been about eight hours since I brought my hair, and I think it still looks very good, like the style is gon na add a little bit, because I was lounging on the sofa I'm lounging on my bed and he's In the car and stuff but like I still think that there's still a bit of body and stuff up here like it's not going to be flat on my head, it's just super shiny. I don't feel any oil in this or grease enos. The ends haven't dried out or anything, but that's horribly down into conditioner, and so I'm pretty happy with us yeah, I'm pretty happy with it overall. Also one thing I forgot to mention was: I was saying that my scalp is kind of itchy earlier I haven't really noticed any difference with that's one thing: I'm gon na keep an eye on like it's not hugely each year or not itchy, and so as if She'S, it was last night, but I think that was because I had just been in the Sun but yeah good morning, so this is my hair. After sleeping on it, you can wear this clip I'll. Take it I'll show you, I think that's actually less. It still has like volume at the top you see, but it's less greasy like in the back. I think that it's less greasy, then it would be with some normal shampoos. Another thing is out as it isn't as warm but last couple of nights, which does make a difference, because when it's really warm probably sweating into my hair and it's greasy kind of in the usual spot, so you can see sit here. But I'm gon na put some dry shampoo and wash I just go with my hair like this. For the day, that was one thing I was really concerned about was that this would make my hair grease here, because sometimes products that strip a lot of the oil out actually make my hair over produce oil. But my the shiny, I don't think my hair is I'm actually quite impressed with that and it still has like a load of shine in it. So yeah so that's day, 1 of using it and so far so good. So that was the first 24 hours and, as you saw on that video, I am continuing to use my regular conditioners. The reason being for that is, it's kind of like a control within this experiment that I'm doing, because if I was to change to the shampoo and the conditioner, I would have no way of knowing what is affecting my hair. What is good for my hair? What isn't so I decided just to start with the shampoos I've also, I haven't heard great things about luscious conditioners, so it's not really something that I'm willing to change right now. Maybe it's something in the future, but for the moment I just wanted to do and look at the shampoo. So you had the shampoo suit in my hair and then continue to use my regular conditioners every single day just to keep my hair in tip-top condition and act as if I was using any other bottle of shampoo. Obviously, as you saw there, that was just my first day using it. So that's not going to give you a hugely accurate representation of what it actually did to my hair. So so far as I'm recording this video I've been using it for two weeks and pretty much every day, but maybe every second day at the odd time and when I'm finished the whole shampoo bar I'm gon na come back and do a very short video to Explain number one how long it lasted and if I could work out how many washes and then. Secondly, to show you what my hair is like after, however, to three months of using it when that video is available, which it won't be for a while, because I don't know how long this is gon na last am, I will stick a card to it up. Above I'll put a link down below, and I will put it on the end card. So, if you're coming to this video and a couple of months time, just watch to the end and it will pop up on the end card when that video is available. But anyway, onto my final thoughts of this two-week experiment with the lush scenic shampoo bar, so firstly, the most important aspect of this is the condition of my hair and for the most part, I am perfectly happy with the condition of my hair. After using this. For two weeks, as you can see here, this is a day old, styled hair. I had curls in yesterday and just let them fall out and there are no major issues with my hair. It looks shiny. I think it's catching the light there and the ends are obviously a little bit dryer, but that's actually because I need to get my hair caught and I haven't had my hair cut mages. So it's it's nothing that I don't think that there's any issue with it. I don't think it's because of the shampoo. I just think it's because I actually need to dry or get my hair caught, but because this is obviously day old, styled hair, I'm just going to insert and video footage. Now of what my hair looks like when it's freshly washed and I've, let it dry naturally, so I think that's a good test to see what your hair is like. So from this footage, as you can see, the roots are a little. I suppose there's a lot of flyaways going on and there's a couple of reasons for that. The first is that I think that I had a little bit of hair loss recently enough and/or, it's just because it's summertime, but I've noticed I have a lot of baby hairs that are coming in, especially at the front of my hair. So I think that those hairs are being so cleanse whether it's products that they've just sort of sticking out a little bit and also, I didn't say to the girl when I was talking to her in the shop that I wanted to tame the flyaways. So because this product is quite cleansing - and I just think it might be the tiniest bit drying at the roots again, that isn't something that I flagged with the girl in lush. So, if that's something that you're concerned about or something that you're after well, then maybe this product might not be the best one for you, but for the rest of my hair, I think it looks pretty good in terms of ease of use. This product is so easy to use, as you saw in the video when I was trying it out. I did get a little bit overzealous at the stars and I probably use too much but I've since sort of don't end it down a little bit when I'm washing my hair, and one thing that I noticed is great about it is that I would have often Kind of loped the shampoo up on the top of my hair - and I could I kind of have trouble getting it in at the back of my roots, whereas because it's a bar, I kind of like swipe it across the top swipe it down the side swipe. It down here and all at the back, and I feel like that - I'm able to really get the shampoo into every aspect of my scalp a lot easier than when I'm just using a conventional shampoo. I also said at the start that I would review the cork posh so with this, the the joy is kind of out on whether I like it or not - and I suppose I like it, but with some caveats. So the first thing is that when you're finished with the shampoo you rinse it off, you pop the thing into you pop the shampoo bar into this, and you leave it to dry now. You could leave it to dry on a countertop or something, but I just don't have space to do that. So what what often happens and what I've read happens with the metal tins is that the product gets stuck in the bottom of the metal tin. It'S really hard to get out, whereas with this, if I just show, you first put my notes down, because this is cork you can kind of pop the oh, it's like not working for me now you can pop the shampoo bar up, see it's stuck a bit. There, but you can pop the shampoo bar out really easily and because it's kind of squishy at the back, so you can push it. So I think from that point of view, that's a really good thing about the cork pot. I also really like the branding honors. I think it's just quite simple and quite cool. It looks really cool in your bathroom and I really like that. It'S fully biodegradable, that's something that I think is great, because you're making no impact or no huge impact using this product, the things that I don't like about it is that, when it's drying, if you can see it's quite porous, so that's probably good from the point Of view of aeration and drainage and making sure that the product maybe doesn't get too liquidy or oily or damp inside, however, if you're resting it down, if you like, if you just haven't, rested down on something some of the blue leaks through the bottom of this, And ends up kind of staining whatever countertop you have it on. So one way I went around that is, that I kind of pop it on top of the lid, and I wait until it dries, and then I pop it then I, like you, know close it up and throw it in where I leave it in the bathroom And so yeah, it's not going to view. I that's a little bit annoying. Also, I travel down to waterford recently to see my family, and i brought this with me and what i noticed was that, because I grabbed it straight from the shower at this was a little bit. This back part was a bit dump, and that meant that it kind of made my clothes a little bit damp where I had it in the case. So you know if you're, traveling and you're planning on using this cork posh when traveling you might want to look and see. Can you get a tin pot? I know that they still sell square tins, so you could still get one, but I wouldn't really recommend this. If you're traveling and because it isn't waterproof - and I do think it could stay in your clothes a bit but to be honest, they're, the only two things, as I said, the jury's still out on I'd like to see how it copes, maybe in the wintertime when It'S a bit damper in my bathroom, I'm kind of concerned in a girl, mold or something bush and there's nothing growing yet. But I will, I probably have a better indication at that by the time it's over and finished, and so I'll be able to come back and talk to you about that in that video and then finally, the big burning question is: would I recommend this for daily Use - and I actually you bought especially if you have hair like mine, which is like you, may be quite natural, not hugely dyed, greasy at the roots and yeah. I would, I would recommend it. I'M kind of the type of person who likes to have two shampoos and two conditioners. So I have like a conditioning mask and a regular conditioner, and then I would often have maybe a more cleansing shampoo and then a more conditioning shampoo for four different days or just when I feel if my hair needs it. So I'm interested to go back into lush and try and see. Can I get myself a slightly more cleansing, shampoo bar, and so when I finished this bar, I think I'm gon na look at having two on the go at one time, and I do think then that will sort of deal with my flyaways and any of those Issues I do think, though, that you need to go and speak to somebody in there and talk to them about your hair, your hair type and kind of take the chance and try it out for a week or two. Obviously I haven't tried out every lost shampoo bar I've just tried this one and the type of hair that I have, but I do think it's worth trying them, especially if you're going travelling or something like that's all you're bringing it is so light in comparison to Shampoo bottles - and you don't have to worry about whether you know you're checking in your case or whatever, and I'm gon na forget traveling when we go to Portugal in a couple of weeks and see how I get on with it but yeah for the most part. I would recommend it, I don't feel it's done a huge amount of damage or anything to my hair and and I'd be interested to know if you've tried out any other ones. If you've similar hair to me and you've tried out a different one or you know, if you completely different hair and you've tried it out and it's destroyed your hair I'd love to know in the comments below. If you want to, let me know - and we can have a chat about it and see which products might suit other people and but yeah that is kind of it. That is it for today's review video. I hope you liked it. If you did, please give it a big thumbs up and, of course, if you're not subscribed to my channel please subscribe. Also, you can follow me on all of my social media links and that's it really sorry that my uploads have been a bit all over the place at the moment and summertime and lots of other things going on in life and me kind of needing to prioritize Youtube a little bit more. I promise you that I will and I tend to be a lot better when it comes to uploads in the wintertime, because I'm a lot more sedentary and I'm not excited as much so apologies for that. Please bear with me, but I really still love this channel of creating content. So if at the moment, it'll probably be fortnightly, uploads and hopefully I'll get back to weekly uploads at some point. But if not, I prefer to do quality over quantity and but yeah see you in two Sundays time, thanks for watching

Kaitlen Anderson: I really reccomend avoiding brishing your hair with a regular brush straight out of the shower, its really no good for the softened locks. Also, try not to use the bar on your ends, just against the scalp and an inch down. The shampoo with naturally travel downwards and clean your ends without drying them out as it would if you wash them directly!

Yikes: That is ALOT of product! I work at the company and have been using these for years usually we recommend only a few swipes between your hands or a few swipes through your hair maybe like 2-6 depending on how much of a cleanse you need I think you’ll get a lot less of of a super squeaky clean feeling Hope this helps :)

Luisa Mack: Hi - you don't need to worry about getting a tin or pot to store it in - just use a soap dish. Save yourself some money and it lets the bar dry out properly. When you travel you can just put it in any container

Sakina Fletcher: This review is so IN DEPTH THANK YOU !! I have been so curious about their shampoo bars, and I have super oily hair too

Julia Vega: I've never tried Lush products but seems like it's a nice shampoo !!! Definitely I'll put it on my To do list

R_: I have bought this shampoo few days ago as i love idea. It was so simple to use, very foamy and nice. My hair was shining and very clean. I really loved it...till next morning. I started feeling so much itching that next day i had to wash my head with my normal shampoo. Then started to look deeper to ingredients. Most of them are natural but at the same causing irritation. I found that this shampoo has sulfates and 4 ingredients that will cause itchy. I decided to stop and look for other bars that has way healthier ingredients. Idea is good but too many colors, oils that cause irritation and perfumes. Maybe they were good when they were launched but not anymore... i would suggest to look to aromaesti shampoo bars

Clara Park: This was so helpful!! I've been looking into more sustainable ways to shampoo my hair and have been considering Lush products :) thank you for such an informational video!

Sue Rawley: isn't cork hard to keep replenished? I understand it being biodegradable, but from what I have read (not vetted) it's not a good choice because of amount of time it takes to regrow.

Missy L: I wish we had the cork pots in Canada- still tins here

Vanessa Barbosa: my hair is oily in the roots dry in the ends and i have a sensitive scalp... this one was my firt shampoo bar..at first i love it.. more volume, no need to wash it daily..but after 3m i get dry hair break ends and dandruf. then i use jason and the argan oil and it get lot better, more hidrated but no glow and still a little dry in the ends .... but i see improvment when i change to trichomania. My hair is know vibrant, clean, hidrated and no dandruff of any kind

Ellen: thanks for this video, i was concerned that the bar would not lather, i once got a shower gel bar from lush before (think it was the honey one) which did not lather at all,

Layla Green: I’ve tried a few LUSH shampoo bars and It’s definitely my favourite

Marguerite W: I had that blue shampoo and a purple conditioner. Liked the shampoo, wasn't mad on the conditioner. I just didn't think it did the job! I had a metal tin and if I didn't open it before I got in the shower, I was locked out of it because my hands were wet. I think I might look for a soap holder I could leave on a shelf outside the shower and then take it in and out with me.

A. Cláudia Silva: Thank you for this review. Love from Portugal

Rebekah: So nice to see an Irish youtuber, had to subscribe ❤️

TheSleepy Teacher: We don’t have the cork yet at my lush store. I’m giving the honey bar a go. :)

Rose: iv been wanting to try this out for a while, thanks!

Ti Jay: My mum's family are Power's from Ireland... I haven't tried this bar and i have greasy roots too and I like the cork containers so i will get one when i go in store next x

OutOfThisWorld1013: I found out about this from one of my Facebook friends. I’ve boughten this to try it out myself.

Melanie Ovalles: Love your accent <3

chloe locke: Are you Irish?
