Hey Parents! A kids protective twists hairstyle was my go-to style when I was just learning to do my daughter's hair. If your little one has natural hair it's important to keep it in a protective style. Protective twists are perfect and adorable! As an adoptive parent and a previous foster mama, I remember not knowing much about black hair when my kids first came to me. With lots of help from friends, fellow foster moms, and youtube I got better and better. I hope this video and my others help you learn to care for your little ones' crown. Haircare is so important in the black community. You will help your child gain confidence and it will build a special bond between you all. Check out my other hair videos for more inspo! Hey friends in today's video i'm going to be doing a super cute and unique two strand twist hairstyle on my daughter. I am always looking for new styles and i saw something similar, but i changed things up and i added my own flavor a little bit of my own style to make it unique to my daughter. My girls are growing up fast and i'm slowly, transitioning to hairstyles that are a little bit more age appropriate and that they can kind of grow with, but also shows their personality. If you're new to my channel, i am a mom of five babies and i have a lot of foster parents and adoptive parents that follow me here on youtube. So i love doing kind of step-by-step guides and tutorials sharing my tips and tricks with you all now. What i'm going to do is just go ahead and put it in four rough parts and put leave-in conditioner from roots to ends all the way to just put back that moisture automatically, because when you shampoo hair, we didn't shampoo today. But when you shampoo hair it automatically strips the hair of all its natural oils, so we want to make sure we put that back in like right away. Okay, so i've got one section done. Let me do this and then i'm going to show you the kind of style i'm going to do and the tools like that brush that i use and the bands that i use and all that don't take it first now we are ready to start styling. Okay, so this is the game plan to put it into two different parts. So i'm going to part it. Let me take this out, so it's just easier. I'M going to oh my gosh, her hair is so moisturized. I love it. I'M going to start at the top of her ear here. You can do any type of part that you like part. It all the way to the other side, just a rough part, and then i'll go back and clean it up afterwards and make sure it's even, but it should just part super easily, because you've done all that detangling work deep condition. Just oh my gosh. It helps manage and okay, i'm gon na move you around in a second okay, so we're just gon na part. It all the way across i'm gon na start at the top of the ear. You can start wherever you like, just kind of eyeball. It making sure it gets as even as possible and when you pull it apart, be gentle and there that's good enough. Let me just clean it up a little bit, then i'm going to go ahead and put this section up, because this is the last section that i'm going to style and then i'm going to create some rose. I am the type of person who just eyeballs everything. I don't really think i do really don't even know what kind of style i'm gon na do until i get going. I think for her one two, i'm gon na make three rows. I'M just gon na eyeball it and separate it with my rat tail comb here and pin each section up and we'll go from there. Now i have got my three rows. I need to clean this one up a little bit. I wish i had more of those clips, but we've lost all of our clips by the way everything you see in this video and i'll put all the links down below in the description. So all her hair is moisturized with the leave-in conditioner. Now i'm going to go through it with oil, i ran out of my favorite one, which is the carol's daughter, goddess strength, castor oil um, but i do like this olive um miracle anti-breakage formula is really good as a hot oil treatment as well. I love a lot of oils. Coconut oil does not work very well on her hair, but um her hair likes every other type of oil, so i'm just gon na put a generous amount. I use a lot of oil, that's just how i am on her hair, because i feel like that's. One of the main reasons why her hair is grown so beautifully is because oil again starting from the ends working our way up, look how beautiful her hair is. I decided to use some like pretty colors in her hair. I want you want to use these colors. Do you like those okay? So i've got this like lavender purple and i've got orange because i like loud colors and i think it's super fun for little girls and i'm going to take advantage of my little girls being young for as long as i can and liking me do. That kind of stuff in their hair. Now i'm going to go ahead and take some eco gel. This is probably one of my favorite gels ever. What are you talking about man? Okay, i'm going to go ahead and just do two here: i'm going to take a little bit of that eco gel. So as soon as i smooth it out - and i like using a little bit of gel on the actual hair as well because um it helps it hold and lock in all that moisture from the leave-in and the oil. So i'm gon na make sure it's as smooth as possible and then i'm gon na take my band and i'm just gon na put it um firmly but not super tight to the scalp. And i can be a little bit tighter with these hair ties because they are so gentle on the hair go ahead and do a two-strand twist by separating it and twisting it together. The gel helps me smooth down all the baby hairs and it really looks nice with the gel locking in all that moisture. A first row done onto the second row, we're moving through the night like we're from a different star flying over the streets and the broken hearts, but they can't even touch us. We found a different beat. Paradise is waiting. Okay row two is done. Let me show you and i decided to alternate the colors, but i wanted to stop here before i twist the last section of row two, because i want to show you if you can see, i love using these little brushes and if you don't have one of These you can use a toothbrush to slick it back on the side so that it looks nice and neat and a quick tip i like to slick it back more and have it lay um in the back, instead of having it more over here like a pigtail, Because i think turn front baby, because i think when she looks forward, i don't want to see it like poking out, because i think it looks nicer and more neat when it lays okay, you can turn it now. Thank you baby um, when it lays to the back so quick tip there. If you want it to look a little bit more neater and lay better slick it back and push it more towards the back till the morning, it looks really nice. I love the way that looks. It just looks nice and clean okay. So what i'm going to do is i'm going to do the top? I just love the way this feels it feels so good. I'M going to do the top i'm going to see. If i can get you all the way up here and show you what i'm going to do, i'm going to start out by parting it, as even as i can, using nose as a guide all the way down to the first row. Okay, after i part it, i'm going to work on one section at a time for this style, i'm going to make three different parts, one two three, as even as i can mama needs a drink. You want a drink here: okay, snack break guava strawberry. Guess i heard it all all the same, but go ahead and use me not going down about to be erased, so i'm gon na take this. I'M gon na put it with this. I already got some gel on it. I'M gon na make sure it's not a nice nicely smooth back, so it looks nice and clean and then i'm gon na take my orange one and i'm going to put it together. Okay and then i'm going to go ahead, put it together. I don't need it to be that tight. I don't want to hurt her, so it's just sturdy enough and then do the same. Exact thing always make sure you prep this before you put this in here, so that this is nice and moisturized, because you can't moisturize it very well. When it's already connected guess, i heard it all all the same, but go ahead and use me. I need it now, all the pretty words always lame you're trying to entice me not going down, don't wait, cause you and i'm gon na do three different twists and i'm just gon na. Let them hang and chill another thing you can do if you want to put like beads in every single one of these ends. That would look super adorable. I just didn't, have um like the color beads that i wanted to do right now. I have a bunch of like christmas, colors and valentine's colors, but i didn't have any other like regular ones. So i ordered some and they didn't come in time. But if you wanted to put beads, you could just do all black or maybe one color and then but put coordinating beads, but i think this would be a little too loud if i put beets and all these cute colors okay, we are almost done we're on The last twist so excited you can do as many twists as you want. You can do as many different parts as you want. You can maybe just like do two. Instead, if i did three here, you could do two rows. Instead of doing three rows down here. You know you can actually extend this type of pattern higher and then do a cute princess bun on the top or two buns on the side to switch it up. I just really needed elia's um style to last me two weeks, because we have a super super busy couple weeks coming up and um with four little girls and lots of work to be done around the house and in our backyard and for work. I just needed to get her into a protective style, but um. I think after this i want to play around with some like bantu knots in the front and maybe some braids in the back. Instead of twists, i like switching up styles, braids, twists big sections, small sections. I alternate to give her parts and her scalp a break and put her in a different style. I think that's what contributes to her hair being so nice is me putting in different styles. Each time so yeah it looks beautiful. You want to stand up and show them. It looks so gorgeous. Oh, we got to change your shirt. We got some oil on it. Mommy loves oil. Oil makes the world go round. It really helps with hair growth and to keep it nice and strong. But if you guys have any questions, please leave them down below in the comments below. I will put all the products that i use today and some of my favorite products um down below as well, and we can't wait to see you in the next one bye, guys.

Christy Gior: Hey friends! The purpose of this video is to help others learn the importance of hair care for a child and inspire others to learn.

🎁50k🍪: Let's all pause for a moment to appreciate how beautiful this child is

Samm Coleman: This took me way back, I’m 73 yrs old and had a Caucasian step mom who did my hair. She had a couple of black girlfriends who taught her to press and curl my hair and later to perm it. I loved it when she gave me pixie bangs. She has since passed and I miss her dearly.

ohheytherelauren: My fave part is at 8:42 when the mom says she loves how her girls hair feels and the daughter sneaks a feel for herself. Such a great example of actively teaching self love. You can see her daughter learning to love herself in this video

New Beginnings With Eve: As a cosmetologists I just want to say thank you for showing your audience how important it is to moisturize and add oil to African American hair. Our hair does not have active Sebaceous oil glands and that is why we need extra moisture and oil. You are doing a fantastic job on maintaining your daughter's hair and I would like to personally say thank you.

J’Dvonte: I love it when she says, “my daughter.” I’ve been there and people treated me like dirt as well as the other kids that were in the system, we were just a $1037 check ‍♂️

April K: As a mixed-race person who has very thick but fine curls I appreciate that you took the time to learn about your daughter's hair. I grew up with a mother who would shame me for wearing my hair natural. It took almost 23 years but I finally am becoming comfortable with my curls

Julia Corrêa: THE SMALLEST LITTLE COMPLIMENTS THAT SHE GIVES TO HER DAUGHTER CONSTANTLY CAN MAKE ME CRY IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL. THIS VIDEO IS SO WHOLESOME.

Life & Liberty: Girl this is hair style is cute.

21 Yeet: Hello I am a 50 year old African American women in a predominantly white state with a lot of white families with adoptive children. You made me proud and tearful at the care you gave your daughter. Thank you so much and I am passing this video along to my white friends with African American children thank you Mary

LM S: I'm impressed that all daughters are happy in this situation- the girl is comfortable and calm while her hair is getting done, and her sister is playing in the background- no jealousy or frustration while her mom takes the time she needs to do her hair the way it needs to be done. You can tell this home is filled with love and compassion.

blessedgirl247: First of all ma’am.....YOU DID THAT!! As a black girl i know there is a lot that goes with doing black hair! You did it so beautifully! From the detangle, to the co-wash, the oil, even the style!! So many “parents” put hairstyles in their child’s hair that are way to mature for them. You did an AMAZING job!!!

Ali Ma: "She did her daughters hair better than I could've and I'm African American!" I really wish that she had a larger platform to illustrate hair care for parents of biracial children or adoptive parents of African American/ Latino children ...Beautiful

Cheryl Tavares: I love the fact that you asked her opinion on the color choices, thank you for all that you do as a foster/ adoptive mom. It takes a special person to take in children that are not theirs. You are a great Mom. I also love how you do her hair without pulling and tugging. As a small child there were only 2 or three people that could do my hair without making me cry...LOVE your kindness.

Ashley Love: Can I just say I freaking admire a white woman that actually took the time the learn and educate herself on afro hair.

Everything Dana: LET ME TELL YOU.....I am going to show my WHITE CLIENTS this video and this woman is working 4c hair with ease. But she knows her hair. This took me to church.

Latress: As a black woman I'm elated to see you taking the time to educate yourself on how to properly take care of your daughter's hair. I've had women who are raising black children come up to me in the product aisle and ask for help. Our hair has different needs and I don't expect them to know. Great job!

Nomfundo Gwala: My favourite part of this video is the fact that the daughter has super healthy hair, big ups to the mom.

Aleshia Davis: This whole video was awesome, the love, the time, the patience, the learning, it was all great the fact that you took out the time to learn what to do and how to do your daughter hair is just awesome from the products used to what type of equipment like the detangler brush, I must say I’m in ahhh, I’m a hairstylist of 30 years and as a stylist I get a lot of young girl who are adopted or there natural parent is of another nationality and they can’t do their hair because it is a major difference or they just can’t do there hair period, so the fact that you took the time out to find out just what and how to do there hair and not cut it all off, and then you did a nice time consuming style and not just two ponytails, I must say I’m speechless and I take my hat off to you and I say thank you

Kay Ess: As a social worker, I’ve seen Black children with non Black foster/adoptive parents a lot. When I’d try to offer advice and even help with their Black children’s hair, a lot of them would either get offended or shy away from my offers instead of considering how much hair affects a child’s comfort levels, confidence, & self esteem. The fact that this momma has researched info on her daughter’s hair care and put her ego aside to make sure the child’s hair stays neat and healthy is SO WHOLESOME.

Shantell Monique: I appreciate you so much for this!! i actually wanna come over and get my hair done lol.... thank you so much for caring to learn how to tend to your child’s hair. you’re a blessing!

flowerpink33: My Mom couldn’t even do hair like this ‍♀️‍♀️ I had to learn at 10 how to do my own hair. You’re doing a awesome job. Her hair is healthy

Pamela Brazile: She had me when she said the focus was on growth and protective style. God bless this white momma for showing the love, care, interest and desire to learn about her daughters hair and share it. Her baby looks so cute afterwards and she will never forget how much she is loved.

Khadijah Abdullah: I absolutely love LOVE love how this mother took into consideration CARING for this child literally from head to toe!!! She will grow up knowing that you truly loved her inside and out while also giving her confidence and appearance a lovingly boost!! ✨

Gitn2it: I just had to comment. This mother treats her daughter with such love. She is constantly saying positive and nurturing things. This is how you are supposed to treat your children. I'm so impressed.

Ms. Und3rst00d: This is absolutely beautiful! I think that the mother LOVES doing her daughter’s hair because it’s not only relaxing and a bonding ritual for them both but it is totally different from her own hair. This is why we are constantly asked if they could touch our hair. She is instilling such confidence in her daughter by embracing her beauty instead of ignoring it. This is so important. The style at the end of the video is beautiful

Nula-v: I just wanna say, what you're doing for her is amazing. You're so considerate and compassionate towards her hair in a way that not many people get to experience. You even care about giving her scalp a break. You're giving her unique styles, her hair is beautiful, there's only beauty and freedom. Only comfort and no expectation of pain. Your child is going to have a much healthier relationship with her hair than what is common, and that's so beautiful. I came from a video reaction, and I just really wanna say, we're all giving you props. Thankful for wonderful parents like you, (pardon my sappiness).

Christine Lovato: This young child will always feel loved. Her mother takes great care in styling her hair. It reminds me of when my 2 girls were young and I styled their hair. It is very important to do that with your daughters. Even your sons! It's all about taking the time to care for them. Love this so much!!

anni kal: I saw ur video at Chizi Duru's Channel where she did a commentary on it and let me say one thing: People like you really have a great impact. The way u talk about ur daughter's hair, the time u take to take care of it and style it... Plus putting it out here so that other ppl can learn from it. Love it Wish u and ur family the best

QtPi WitGlasses: I love how she hears you describing her hair as “beautiful”. When she grows up she’s going to love her hair because you showed her the beauty in it!

omenkahelen: I almost teared up watching this — beautiful mother and beautiful daughter ❤️

ELIZABETH DURHAM: Christy I don’t know anything about textured hair but I can tell you’ve done your homework and it speaks volumes of the love you pour into your babies. Thank you for being such a clear example of how to love

Shakara Richardson: Loving this. She’s beautiful and mommy gave her such a cute style!!

Sofia: Even though their skin is different they look like a family. You can visibly tell when there is real love between two people

dantie black bfly: I have never witnessed a white woman blessing type 4 hair like this! I am so impressed you did your research. She will thank you later!

Ninguém: this is the type of video that makes me realize that i would've grown up loving my hair more if my mom had loved it too when i was younger the amount of care and attention is as beautiful as your daughter and her hair

Christina Buffert: I love it, I subscribed to her because of how genuine she loves her children regardless of race DNA they are her blood.

Loretta Stephens: You did such a great job on your daughter’s hair, she’s adorable!

Barbiana: You seen so excited and so into doing her hair. This makes me so proud to see this. Just beautiful mommy ! Thank you

Sylvia Gitau: I love how her mom enjoys doing her kid's hair and has learnt to do it well.

Norda Campbell: A white mother taking care of her black daughter 4c hair being so warm and gentle this is so heart warming and beautiful God's richest blessings enjoy on you and the family Christy.

Tierny T: I absolutely love how your mother takes time to learn and understand your hair. She's a lovely women

Dianna Fetherman: I watched this video through another YouTubers reaction video (it was very positive), but had to come here to share how much I appreciate this. The WHOLE this, not just this video. It’s very evident how much you love your daughter and how selfless you are how you express your love. I’m biracial with very curly hair that my Korean mom celebrated. All of the loving words you share with your daughter, both about her hair and to her, are foundational to her self esteem and how she’ll shine in the world. Also, what great tips!! Rotating styles so there’s not repeated strain in the same areas of the scalp - genius! I didn’t even consider that for myself.

Danielle Colón: Made me tear up thinking about how this beautiful baby girl doesn’t even realize the confidence her mama is pouring into her day by day. When she’s in her adulthood life will throw so much at her but one thing is for sure in her core and in her heart her mama built a queen that will withstand anything. She will never feel as a bother or less than. Thank you SO much for this. Strong women: may we be them, know them, and raise them. ❤️

Rainbow Love: I appreciate how you care for her hair. Makes my heart sing that she's getting the love she deserves. One tip from a 63 year old black mother. You will know if you have braided or a band is to tight and if her scalp is puffed it's to tight and will cause her to have a headache. And take a tutorial and learn how to french braid. It's fun with great looks for the hair. Much Love

Calicapenergy88 LLC: Watching this I can tell she loves her and it’s so beautiful to see she is doing everything to make sure her daughters hair is done properly. Absolutely beautiful and I’m so happy to see that little girl has a loving home to be in tears of joy

Louise Ndior: Christy i just found your channel and I'm in love. The love and care you give to your kids makes me look up, and appreciate you as a person so much . The positivity of the comment section does not hurt either. Thank you for spending time to share a bit of your life with us!!!

Lovetta Tobey, EA: So cute! I just did this style on my daughter’s hair. She loves it. ☺️

Kelsey Jines: You are an amazing mother! Thank you for doing everything for that baby and all of the others you have. As a foster kid, this warms my heart so much.

Lisa Fraser: I love this momma she keeps saying “ look how beautiful her hair is” she notices that and I love it. She’s so proud of how she’s taken care of her hair since birth and it’s turned out beautifully because of her patience and willingness to learn. Love love love it

S.T. Scoops: I am waiting for the day I can adopt a child. If the child that comes into my life is black or has natural hair like this, this is so so helpful! I've been nervous about how to style natural hair, or any child's hair in general really. My mother styled my hair in pigtails almost everyday and I dreaded it every morning. I vote we boycott those hair ties that have the two big beads

decemburr june: I know you don't need anyone's 2 cents or approval. But I love this sooo much. YOU CARE for your daughter's hair so well! I have 3 siblings (adopted) myself. I love seeing adoptive parents who genuinely love & care for their kids like my mom

Taya LaShae: it breaks my heart that too often white people adopt black children and put no effort into learning our lifestyle. thank you for doing this. seriously.

BunBun 2610: Respect to her for taking the time to learn and nurture her daughters hair so well.

Lissa-Lissa-Meditation-Relaxing-Music: Mom, you did a wonderful job! Your daughter’s hair came out so beautiful!

Kyonée R.: Mama, you are incredible. THANK YOU. Black queens everywhere thank you for taking the time to learn, appreciate & honour your baby’s beautiful & unique hair - Lord knows it isn’t easy! This technique is flawless and even taught me a thing or two! You are incredible. Your baby girl will never forget this, you’re an amazing mama.

Kellye: You and your daughter are both so patient, polite, and BEAUTIFUL. A winning combination. Hoping for the best for your beautiful girls! Thank you for taking the time to understand their hair in its natural form and encouraging them to love it too.

Mrs Lisha: Great job! As a African American women I so appreciate the way you took the time educate yourself as well as others. I love the terminology you use and i appreciate how you acknowledged how beautiful her hair is. You have a sweet spirit ❤ Be blessed

Zephyros: I love watching your videos and getting ideas from you! My gf has a daughter that lives with us full time now and no one ever did anything with her hair when she lived with her father. She didn’t have a lot of confidence when she first came to live with us and I think that was a big part of it. She’s half white half black and her mom (my gf) gets really bad hand cramps when trying to do stuff like this so I’ve taken up the roll as her hairstylist and just doing simple little braids and twists I can tell a huge difference in her confidence levels so I just wanted to say thank you for making these videos and please keep them coming!

OptimisticSmyle 🤟🏿: Wow!!! This video is so informative and I’m happy you’re doing this for your audience and our community!!!! You must do the research for your child when adopting outside of your race and culture! This is a great video.

Shetrades: My hair is long but thinned out from weaves. I’m transitioning to natural. I just want to thank you Christy for sharing. My mother gave me perms when I was younger and as a black woman I don’t know how to take care of my natural hair texture... I learned lots!

Dann-el Smith: I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to learn & do your daughters hair. I wish more (foster/adoptive) parents of non white children would do the same. Not only is it great for the child’s self esteem & comfort but, it’s a great time to bond. I hope you know she’ll remember & hopefully cherish the quality time spent. You’re not just doing your daughters hair, ya know? She’s beautiful & you’re doing an amazing job Mom!! Thank You & God bless you & your family!!!

BeautyByKrys: Can we appreciate this woman’s hand? They she was handling her head she got “my momma” hands. She is not timid with that baby’s hair. I love the way she has taken time to learn this baby’s head and knows what products and tools to use.

Shayla Patton: I absolutely love that you have taken the time to learn how to affectively style your daughter's type of hair naturally to keep it growing healthy and strong. Nice work Mom.. you're awesome!!

Ami Rudock: I love how she is teaching her daughters to love themselves naturally, rather than taking them to the salon and having it straightened.

littlejeanz: Great job momma. Setting a perfect example of teaching self love. That even “you” can do your babies hair. I am sharing this.

WLJ: I'm impressed with your process and final style...you did a lovely job on her hair. Clearly you've taken the time to understand her hair and the products and tools it takes to maintain a beautiful and healthy mane. The individual attention she needs and you give, as well as the love you have shown her comes through. Awesome!

aminazena: moms with mixed kids gotta see this! My mom was so lost and it took me like 25 years to figure out my hair...but in her defense she tried and there was no YouTube, now there’s no excuse!

Toshchel Demus: I love this, it’s so awesome to see that you took the time out to learn how to properly care for her hair. I love to see it ❤️❤️❤️ her hair is really cute and moisturize by the way! You go momma !

Grace2shar: Christi, I love seeing you work that comb through those parts and that edge brush. You understand how important those edges and parts are to your girl’s hair. You can hang with the best of black moms who love to style their kids hair! You are wonderful! And your daughter is beautiful and well mannered !

Lil’ Miss Wonder: Love it Christi! Your daughter is gorgeous. One of the biggest things about lil’ girls, especially on the black community, I watched on Oprah as a child, is they get child abuse a lot, in regards to how they get their hair done. It’s not ok to harm your child no matter how much extra time it takes to do their hair gentle and nice. This is true of white girls too. When parents harm their child and use any excuse, “it’s your hair’s fault,” that’s not ok. I experienced this myself, as a redhead. First grade my parents cut my hair like a BOY, because they didn’t want to have to condition and style my red hair properly. So I can totally relate to anyone who was abused via their hair. I’m so glad women are conscientious now that children and their hair is dependent on what race they are and what kind of hair they have. Thanks Christi. Someday if and when I find my guy I may adopt. I’ve always wanted a biracial family. Knowing these things are helpful. Love! ❤️
