Loc journey , 4a natural hair

So i'm currently approaching my second month locked, i'm very proud of my journey very happy with it. Obviously, you can see the hair is flourishing, but before we get right into you know, all of that i want to start from the beginning and just talk about. How did this all happen like? How did i go from having loose natural hair for eight years now? Deciding that okay, i want to lock my hair, so i started my natural hair journey in 2014. It wasn't planned, like i didn't, plan to have natural hair. I was somebody who always used to experiment with different hairstyles, so i was always cutting my hair dyeing it. Like i think this is the longest i've ever had like black hair and the reason why i dyed my hair back to black was because i was getting married and i wanted to be able to just easily get my hair done without worrying about how i'm going To match this color match the other color, so i just dyed everything black, so i could get it done, and so i've had black hair for like two years but other than that like. If you see all of my pictures, my hair is always color. It was either brown or blonde or ginger like like i like, hair, just being colorful and just you know not being expressive. Basically, i had a friend then, who was into this natural hair journey, and i guess i was you know fascinated by all the things that she would do like she wash her hair. She put like all these coiling creams in it. She had like amazing, 4c natural hair, so i was just like hey i'd like to see what my hair would look like, and that was how my natural hair journey started. I used to take very, very good care of my hair wash it. I think at least once a week you know deep, deep condition it. I would style it in different ways. I was always watching videos about it, but, as i just grew older, you know got into this adults in life. I just started to see that i don't really have the time for this. You know so i guess, like the first reason why i went ahead with the decision to knock my hair was just it's time consuming like you spent so much time like getting your hair done. You know. Sometimes i have to sit down for eight hours, ten hours to get braids and because my hair is natural, it gets rough very fast. So i found that i was doing my hair like almost every two weeks and apart from the amount of time it takes to get the hair braided when you're washing your hair, because you can't get to your roots, you have to section your hair, you wash it Gently then you have to put your deep conditioner in it. You have to let it sit and you have to rinse it out and you have to comb out your hair gently. Then you have to plate it into into like sections to stretch it. Then you not have to decide what hair you want to do. If you are going to carry your hair in its natural state, then every night before you go to bed, you have to bring it back. When you go out, you have to loosen it and comb. It and style it. It was it's just it's just a lot, it's just a lot and i'm and like i just keep getting busy and busy and busier i'm just finding that i don't have the time to do all of that anymore. So i just found that that my hair was always in one brilliant, hairstyle or the other i had to buy wigs to wear and just because i didn't want to have to deal with my hair on like a daily basis. So, yes, if you have the time to take care of your loose natural hair by all means, do that you know, but for me, as life is just getting busier, i just don't have that time anymore. The second thing that i noticed with my loose natural hair was that it was starting to break a lot, and i guess that was just the product of not having enough time to spend actually caring for it. So i noticed that every time i loosened my hair and i would comb it, it was always just breaking when i wash my hair now just a lot of shedding everywhere, and i was just like. Oh my goodness, my hair wasn't green anymore. I like actually wasn't seeing the growth because it was always breaking off and then they'll say: oh, you have to trim your edges and then, if i trim it it's just like, i just cut my hair. I knew i needed to do something to my hair to get it to a point where it's healthy again, where my actual hair is flourishing. The third reason why i went ahead to lock my hair was that it was getting really expensive having loose natural hair, just because you have to use a lot of products to maintain it to style it to keep it bouncy. Apart from that is the cost of getting your hair done. So when i got married, i moved to the island to live in my husband in lagos, there's the mainland and the island. So i moved to the island to give my husband prior to that i was living on the mainland. Now when i was getting my hair done there, i could easily just get braids done for like four thousand there, not less braids. I kid you not, and that is even a bit expensive. You know compared to what i used to pay to get my hair done and when i moved to the island i saw that the same amount of hair i was paying four thousand hours for the mainland on the island. It was costing like 20 000. 25. 000. 40. 000. You know, depending on the length and where you go to you, can spend as much as 40 000 trying to get your hair braided, which was just a lot of money. And for me i am a very frugal person. It'S not really about whether you have the money or not or who is paying for the hair. You know any of those things i just don't like being wasteful, especially if i feel like. Oh, i can get this at a more decent price. I don't see why. I need to spend a ridiculous amount of money that can go somewhere else. I don't know i'm just a forgot person, so that's just how how i you know calculate expenses. In my mind, i made the final decision to lock my hair at the beginning of this year. My friend adani carex, had come over to visit me and we're talking and i'm just looking at her hair. She has vlogs, we met in 2016 and i think she was about a year into her luck journey when i met her. But when she came over, i was just looking at her hair. She had just gotten a fresh re-twist and her hair was looking amazing. I was like girl, i want this, this thing that is on your head, i want it, and so i just started talking to her about it and everything and she was just like yes, that she could relate to everything. I was saying you know the time. The money that has been spent on you know getting and you you know taking care of your loose natural hair. I obviously broke the news too it's similar because he loves my loose natural hair so much and i just felt like if i was going to make this decision over my hair, i should carry him along, so i just told him: hey babe. I am going to lock my hair, and this is what it's going to look like, so i have been looking at pictures of other girls with locks. I have like a whole food out there guys it's ridiculous, i'm obsessed, so i was showing him all of the pictures and i was like hey babe. Just look at these pictures. Look at this picture. Look at this picture so by the time he was saying. Like obviously, all these women who look amazing with their locked hair, he was open to the idea of it and he was like yeah sure. I think you should do this, and that was how i went ahead to get my hair locked. So the first thing that i did was to find a location that i could trust and i would put her contact details here and her phone number here and also link it in description box below so that, if you want to, you know, speak to her about Locking your hair, or even going ahead to lock your hair or just you know, re-tying your locs like she can. You know do that for you, so i spoke to her. You know this is what i want to do. I want to knock my hair. What do you think about it? We had like multiple conversations about it, because there are times that i would literally message and be like. Oh my goodness, i don't know if i can actually do this. It'S such a big big big decision actually like i completely under understand, like it, takes time for some people to get comfortable enough with the idea of knocking their hair. She would answer all of my questions. She sent me a picture. She asked me what size i wear for my locs. I sent her pictures. We. Finally, you know, you know agreed on the size, because i thought that i didn't want to have like those locks that are like super chunky. The second thing that i did obviously was to get like a ton of photos guys i have like a ton of photos. You know folders pictures of girls with locks, you know looking at it. You know just coming into the idea of the beauty of it and not the stigma of having locks where it's like. Oh, this person smokes or they're dirty or this, and that, like you, know, just being open-minded and just you know seeing all these pictures, and just you know loving it, and the third thing that i did was that i watched a ton of videos on youtube as Well, i already told you guys that i'm a youtube junkie, so i was just watching so many videos. You know looking at other people, they are one year long journey people who have hair like mine. I have 4a natural hairs just looking at their own journey. Looking at pictures from their journey things that they were saying, obviously i'm still new to this there's like a lot that i don't know like. I hear them talking about flint, i'm just talking about how they have to dry brush their hair to get things out of it. I don't know what that means. I have not done that so, like there's still a lot that i don't know, i'm just two months into my journey and i don't mind like you know, bringing you guys. You know i long on this journey sharing pictures. I already shared some pictures on my instagram and you know i had you guys asking oh your hair. What did you do blah blah blah you know. So if you want me to document my love journey on my instagram, so i can do that. My instagram handle is orangewriter and you can follow me on instagram, so you can watch and see how my hair is growing. I had my first retie a few weeks ago and i think i've just put the two videos from when i got my when i first locked my hair and when i did my retire so that you just see you know the growth and the changes that have Happened in my hair since that time i am so excited, it's so obvious. I'M so excited i'm so happy about the progress that my hair is making. Currently, i just shampoo my hair once a week, but i spritz my hair with water every day, so when i'm in the shower, you know i i you know spritz my hair with some water from the shower or when i come out of the shower. I will do that then i put olive oil and jamaican black, castor oil in my hair. This is the shampoo that i use. It'S aussie miracle volume shampoo. It'S going to focus yes, so this is the shampoo that i use guys. Please, if you know anyone that works in this company, i want to sponsor your video. I don't mind, i love the shampoo, so much i've been using the shampoo and the deep conditioner for about two years now. It'S absolutely amazing, amazing, amazing, and look at how huge this bottle is. A little goes a long way right. So i use this on my hair. I love the way. It'S you know. Scents like everything about the shampoo is beautiful. So obviously i don't use deep conditioner in my hair because um i i i was told that if you do that your hair can loosen and i'm not trying to get my hair to be soft anymore, because i'm not trying to comb it out without breaking it. So yeah i'm currently not deep conditioning. My hair, though once my hair gets to maybe like six months. You know, maybe a year in, i think i will experiment with deep conditioning at least once a month. I just see how my hair, you know, responds to that, but currently i only shampoo my hair and i do that once a week and because my hair is now in locks, i can easily get to my roots to shampoo. You know the hair and then use the ladder to just like clean my actual hair. These are the two oils that i use. This is good old-fashioned, goya oil. In nigeria. We call it anointing oil, but it's olive oil. This is good on goya oil and then i use jamaican black, castor oil. I don't know how popular this oil is, but i bought this for 5 000 era and it has lasted for quite a while, probably because i don't use it so often and yeah. These are basically like my haircut products like these are so affordable and so cheap, so yeah, that's basically it for this video guys. I guess i can still braid on my hair. I have thought about doing that, but i don't even know if that's something i might end up doing, because one of the reasons why i locked my hair was because i realized that braids were starting to give me headache, like all of the tension on my scalp. Like i remember, there was a particular month where i had you know headache for like a whole month, and i was wondering like what is going on, i kept on taking drugs and then i finally like losing the braids and my hair was just like. Thank you. So yes, but i can still braid on this, i think i'm going to ex experiments with that. Maybe on my second anniversary, which is coming up guys, i can't believe i'm married for two years. So yes, my negatives coming up yeah and i think i might climb an experiment with braids. I can't still wear weeks. I won't be for that thing. So if you ever see me with wigs or sitting with brakes, don't be like, oh, my goodness, did you loosen your locks? No i'm here to stay, so i guess until the locks start burden like really start having like a lot of like you know, body and all of that, but it's like really thick. I might not be able to do all those things anymore, but for now i can still do it because my hair is still very much thin okay. So i want to end this video here, but there's there's feedback that my mom gave me right. So my mom watches most of my videos, if not all of it and she was like. Oh, i don't tell you guys enough to subscribe to my channel to like my videos to leave a comment like i don't say it enough, and i guess it's like because i just assume you guys are going to do that. She was like no. She was telling me how, like she watched this particular video, and this one was practically begging like please, please, like my video comment subscribe and because of how the mom was begging, she liked the video and subscribed to the channel. So now i'm begging you people, please like this video subscribe to my channel. Please please, please! So i'm just going to watch and see if this works. If the life count is higher. If my subscriber count goes up because yeah my my mom said, i work soon. Let'S see

Kafui Debss: Yayy locs! I also have locs - 1year 4 months now. You look so beautiful❤️ Can’t wait to see your journey - dyeing, rocking different styles, etc

Miss Monica: I’ve been loc’d for a month now, ooo so excited for our journey! I’m actually doing it to grow my hair, I’ve people unloc their hair and the growth retention is huge. So hopefully I’ll have bra strap length hair minimum in the end.

tomiwaspeaks: Awww you’re gonna have locs like me ! Can’t wait to see how your journey goes! Please keep us updated as well

Oreoluwa Aremo: it’s interesting to know that Adenike is also the reason why i finally decided to loc my hair and locd_bydona did mine too! she’s brilliant and would recommend her any day!

annerita._: Your locs are actually lovely boo! ❤️❤️

Boluwatife Okelola: Coincidentally, I have also had (loose) natural hair for about 8 years and, ngl, it has taken dedication to leave it that way considering the fact that I do not even wear weaves (and come rain or shine, the hair had to HAIR). I know for a fact that my hair is going to be loc'd (no creamy crack here) by (or, at) my 30th year, and already have tooon of resources to make the transition smooth. The other day I installed mini twists, and toyed with the idea of just interlocking, lol. Your hair looks amazeballs, Ezinne

jennifer okpalaojiego: when I tell you I screamed!! I’ve been loc’d for 2 months now and I’m so excited to see your loc journey

Angel: girl natural hair takes soooo long!! Love this for you! You are looking soo beautiful

Hadassah Anderson: Happy for you locking" your hair...I know how freeing it is not to have to "solve further maths" on top hair...I combed out my traditional locs like 3 months ago...prolly will start again...but you didn't specify if its sisterlocs or the "regular locs" as they are both diff, in terms of maintenance and installation.. but anyway your hair looks good. All the best with your loc journey

Onadeko Teniola Lillian: Yayy. Your hair looks amazing . I have locs too and I just started my second set

Natalia: Can't wait to see how ur journey goes Can't take the hours of combing and Heavy braid's, that's why i decided to loc.

chi: so happy you found something that works for you! low-maintenance for the win plus it looks beautiful

Ijeoma Nwannennaya: Your hair is so beautiful! Your hair stylist did a great job.

Maryblessing: God is good!!! I was telling God, my friends and family that I want to loc my natural hair when I reach my twenties and there where static to the idea and so I asked for validation and this video came up. You are really the best Mrs Zara. Well, I sha know that whatever hair you decide to do you will always look stunning ✨

Abigail Inspires: Your hair looks so beautiful ❤️❤️

Precious Chigbo: Your hair is so gorgeous!❤️❤️❤️

onyekwelu Peace: I really love your hair, wish I can do this too. I've been wanting to do this for a long time now because I'm always on lowcuts but a two friends of mine on different occasions told me that it's mostly for married women and as a young girl, I have to make different hairstyles to look beautiful. But making my hair and headache are 5&6 so I recoiled back to my shell of cropped hair.

Similoluwa Oni: My locs look just like yours. It will be a year soon. Starting microlocs was the best decision ever. So low maintenance

Favour Egberefoh: Love your new look as well as how you styled it! I agree with your mom, some persons don’t realise it counts. Also people could sometimes get carried away with your powerful and edifying content and forget to like, share and subscribe, Anyway, I love love your content! Continue the good work!❤️

Chantel Ejeh: This video is really for us all naturalistas Nobody advised me before I knew it’s about time to go loc my hair. I haven’t even done a retwist in 3 months but just spending less, stressing less and being free in my mind is something I can’t explain. Your hair looks so amazing Ezinne Also yes you can braid on it. The size is perfect for braids and knotless braids looks beautiful too.

Beyond Sight Network: I am really loving your hair , it’s gorgeous and I’m equally contemplating locking my hair for these same reasons. I really do not have enough time anymore with all the expenditure and all that. I just need to find a good loctitian here in Cameroon and take time to make a decision. Thank you for this video, it’s helping me understand a bit more about locs. Yes please do document your journey so we see, enjoy and learn.

I love how excited you're for the hair, locs is life. Periodt! I always blush when I talk about my locs or locs in general it's so cuteeee

Folasade Oni Lawal: I was afraid o! I was kind of looking for my comment button, thank God I found it. I love this Vlog because, you highlighted most women's journey with hair. After going through all you went through, although I have never gone natural because of my hair texture ( Wire hair) , I settled for jheri curls . Enjoy your locs till you get tired

Anne Authentic: Love this video, beautiful hair . IT'S THE END FOR ME !! To me I don't expect people to just know, I feel so so weird convincing people to do it, I want them to willingly do it if my content blesses them

Prisca Valins: Ezinne darling, if I give you 2 more minutes,I'll find myself locking my hair & dyeing it.

Agartha Nkrumah: You look good girl

Sara Harrison: You look amazingggggg

Ada Anna: Your mom is right!! It works o. No shame in the hustle.

ny ny: It is true lint (aka little balls of material that can get stuck in your hair, from your clothes, sheets etc...) will get stuck in your locs if you don't keep your hair covered when lying around and going to bed. You can't avoid having lint in your locs, but we want to prevent getting too much of it in our hair because if not, it will show up as little white balls all over your head, if you allow it to get stuck inside your loc. Your best bet it to pick it out as soon as you see it on the surface of your hair. People saying brushes helps, I've never tried it since I have starter locs, but I would just wait until your locs are more mature to start brushing, that way you dont undo them or mess them up from brushing them too soon. Hopefully that helps.

Hannah Harris: I have made the decision to loc mine too, I’m just skeptical about the size I want. yours is so pretty and the next time I’d see a big loc and want it Pinterest and YT is our guy!

Okolo Eliora: You're so beautiful!!!

Taiwo Sofowora: Omgggg welcome to the partyyyy ❤️ it suits you

Golden Felix: You inspire us ma. I'm a new subscriber, do you post every Friday?

Pleasant Jaja: your mum is funny. I am excited for the journey. You look cute

Folake _speaks: You look so beautiful Ezinne

Grace onwuka: Your hair is really beautiful..the end part got me laffing , I think one of the reason you don't bother about those like ,share, subscribe is because you know God is working at the background for you..PS : Mothers are always right thou

Nkara Obasi: Your locs is beautiful

OMOLADE OVAYOZA OLORUNMOTA: You look soooo niiiccceeeee I have one question though, can you loosen locs after years because I really really want to get locs but everyone says when you tire of them you have to cut it off.

miracle chukwunonye: I live as tho i have locs but i have loose natural hair. My hair is mostly in loose twists, i wash it in that form, once a month i retwist it. I had to form this routine cus i got really busy and my hair is now much longer so i dont really have the time for it. I rarely leave my hair in its loose form, flying free.
