You know how you pull on your ends and it's like straggly cut it off this cut, it cut it cut it cut it hi guys. Welcome back to my channel, it's your girl, Jen chieh. Welcome back for another video. If you near here welcome have a seat today we are going to be discussing a very important topic. If you want healthy long, 4c hair trimming your ends. I know we all hate to hear about it, but this is the honest truth: we're going to be discussing the importance of trimming. Your ends, the tools you need to trim your ends. How often you should be doing it and how you should go about trimming your ends, so if this is something you interested in which you should be, if you want long hair, then keep on watching before we get started, don't forget to hit the subscribe button Ndebele. So you get notified every single time. I upload a new video. Also follow me on Instagram, where I post all of these makeup looks more pictures all of these goodies that you're not going to see here on YouTube all right so before we get into how to trim your ends. Let'S discuss why. Why do you need to trim your ends? It'S so important and I feel, like you guys, hear it all the time that you should be trimming your ends, but we are so attached to our hair as Naturals. We want to grow our hair, so the thought of you cutting your hair is kind of overwhelming, but let's break it all down, so that you understand the importance and once you do, you will trim your ends because you can't have healthy hair with ultra your ends. So your ends are the oldest part of your hair. We all know that, as a result, they get matted to get frayed, especially if you don't have a consistent hair care routine. One of the reason why you absolutely mean to trim your ends. It'S because of split ends and single strand knots. We all hate them, I'm sure you've noticed them in your hair and unfortunately, they are kind of unavoidable. They are going to happen over time, especially with wear and tear on your hair, so you can't entirely prevent them, but with proper hair care you can reduce the amount of split ends that you get the amount of knots that you get, but once you get them, They need to go. I don't believe in these products that say they are going to mend your split ends. I mean you can try them for yourself, but I would recommend you to save your coins, invest in a great pair of scissors and cut your ends when it's needed. What our split end split ends, our splitting or fraying of your ends due to weathering and damage, and you want to be like damage from what my hair isn't damaged. Well, yes, it is there's a lot of wear and tear on our ends when we are washing our hair, combing or hair. Rushing out here colouring no hair flat. Ironing out here, curling out here so from us handling our hair on a day-to-day basis. There are some damage that can potentially happen and that's how you get split ends and not especially with single strand knots. These are basically one strand of your hair curling on itself to the point that is formed this perfect, not you can't entirely prevent them, and I know I get a lot of messages from people telling me well. How can I prevent them? I really hate them. Trust me says we all hate them and it's just a characteristic of curly hair, the curly or your here is the more likely it is to happen. However, with moisturizing and proper care, you can try to reduce the amount of knots and splitting that you can get all right. So, let's discuss the different type of split ends and what they say about you, yes, split ends are spilling the tea on who you are as a caregiver, so the first one is the basic. Let this type of split ends are the most common. That'S basically, when you know the end of your hair split in two, the cortex is still held together. It'S just that the hair ends of your hair is starting to split or separate. The basic split is an indication that your hair needs a bit more nourishment. So you should be moisturizing a little bit more, like I said, split ends are not entirely preventible. You are going to get wear and tear in your hair, but just up in the moisture there's the mini split, which is the very early sign of split ends. It'S not too late for you here. At that point, you can still try to really get down with moisturizing your hair and be more consistent with your routine. It also cuts back on the detangling, because I mean I feel like we're kind of obsessed with detangling and brushing our hair, and these tools actually cause a lot more damaged and good. Sometimes so you know when the hair is just starting to split. It'S not so bad, it's okay, not all, is lost, so the third type of split ends is a fork in the road they're, less common than the basic splint and the minute it's an indication of a bit more damage and splitting within your hair. It'S also letting you know that you need to be doing more deep conditioning treatments to really nourish your hair and really get that moisture within your strands. The fourth type is the tree. So again, there is a lot more damage happening, as you can tell from you know the very first basic split or the minutes. Let down see here. We have a lot more damage, so more damage is actually happening, one side of your strand and the other. So it's continuing to split down the shop of your hair, and this is an indication that you need to trim your ends. Asap. There is no going around it once you have split ends and damaged you need you need to cut them off. There is no fixing it cut, it cut it cut, it cut it. The fifth type is the candle. That'S when there's been a lot of damage on the cuticle layer, so basically the cuticle layer is not even there anymore. You just have the cortex layer sticking out. You'Re lucky that the cortex layer hasn't even started to split yet, but you should be getting a trim again. There is no growth around it. At that point, you can tell that your ends are really frayed. You know how your ends start thick at the bottom and then it just starts getting thinner and thinner towards the end. Well, those are indication that you have to pull it end depending on how your hair split one side can break off so leaving half of your strength or you can have the Kendall's where the cuticle layers has fallen off. So then it's a lot thinner towards your ends, so although there is basically infinite amount of ways that your hair can split for my research, I've found that these are the most common ways and the last one is them not like I mentioned earlier. Those are characteristics of curly, hair, basically you're here curling and coiling around itself, to the point that it creates a perfect knot. They also need to be cut out. So, let's move on to the tools that you need to cut your hair. You do not want to use your fingers. Let'S start with that, because I know we are so obsessed with picking at our hair looking for split ends, finding little knots and ripping them out do not do that. You are causing more damage than necessary. Once you rip your hair out, then you just literally created more split ends. That'S just going to continue to split up the shaft of your hair, so invest in some proper hair cutting shears, and I say that because it has to only be used for your hair. Don'T use the spare scissors, that's been in the kitchen since 1999. That is not for your hair, so get yourself some proper shears. I have two here. Let'S talk about the first one here, so this I had for years, which is why I invested in another one. I remember getting it from Walmart it's by the brand goody. They were really nice, I believe, 11 or 12 dollars at the time, and they were quite sharp from the purpose that I needed them for so that was kind of an upgrade at the time and then from there I moved on to these pair of shears. So these are top-of-the-line hair cutting shears. Apparently, during a doing like Japanese steel, they are extremely extremely sharp. You can cut yourself with these and I have to cut myself with the home, so you want to be really careful when you get super sharp shears for your hair. I believe those were $ 60. I know I kind of like snapped and went all professional, but I have never used something so sharp for my hair and I can tell I can feel the difference there from Cosmoprof and I believe you need a membership to be able to buy things there. But I know somebody that knows somebody, so those are the tools that I would recommend so here cutting shears and you can get that anywhere. You want to invest in something that is extremely sharp. It doesn't have to be $ 60. You can go to Sally's, they have some options behind the counter or you can even go to Walmart. Do what works for you, but just make sure that whatever you use, it's only for your hair you're, not using it to also cut your children's school project. No, this is just for your hair, keep it somewhere hidden, because that is your hair trimming. Scissors do not cut anything else with it, because it's just going to dull your scissors and then you are going to be cutting your hair with something. That'S all and that's a big no-no. The reason why you don't want to use dull scissors for your hair, it's because it's actually going to cut your hair in a jagged way. That'S going to cause more split ends as soon as you cut your hair. So that's actually not going to help your cause at all alright. So let's talk about how you know that you need a because a lot of people are like well, how do I know? How can I tell, and one of the give Intel that you need a trim is that your ends are matted all the time you can't detangle your hair easily. You have a lot of knots. You have a lot of split ends, so these are the tell-tale signs that you need a trim if your ends are matted all of D time. No matter what you do you just angled, your hair. They are matted if they're breaking so you're getting a lot of breakage and you're, not sure why you can tell when you pull on your hair, it's frayed, so it started out thick and then, when you get to the end honestly, there's barely any hair there and You have a lot of split ends, so your ends feels really really rough. That'S how you can tell you have split ends, because your hair is splitting into different branches, or hopefully just split once so now your ends are extremely bushy. It just feels really dry when you run your fingers from your roots to your ends, you can tell the difference when you get to your ends, that's an indication that you need to trim and also when you have a lot of knots. So once I start noticing a lot of knots, then I know it's time for me to start thinking about trimming my hair and I'm not saying that for you to be obsessed with your ends, for you to always be looking for an off, because I mean, if You start looking for knots. You are going to find knots booboo, but, as you take care of your hair and you noticing an increasing amount of knots, an increasing amount of slit ends, then you should start thinking about trimming your ends and also thinking about what was the last time you trim Your ends, alright, so let's get into how you have your sharp scissors and you ready to go. That'S basically all that you need so there's two different methods on how you can trim your ends. There is one that I recommend the other one. I don't care too much for, but I will still show you just in case. You want to make a choice. Personally, I like to trim my ends when my hair is wet or damp, I don't do it on dry hair and that's because I have a whole little routine as to how I trim my ends. So I trim my ends today and I'm left with these juicy twist this moisturize twist and that's I like to do it because it leaves me with a protective style after cutting my hair. So let's get into the footage on how to trim your ends. Alright. So, let's get into the juicy part of this video, which is exactly how i turn my ends, so I'm starting on freshly Co, washed hair and I only kosh for the purpose of me trimming my hair. You can see that my hair needs a trim, as you can tell they're already getting all matted up and you can see how my ends are stringing. They have to go especially in the front, although my hair seems healthy at first, but when you pull on it the ends are very stringy. All of that on the seat could go so the way I go about doing it like I said I started when my hair is damn. I make sure that my hair is thoroughly detangled at times. I would even use a small tooth comb. That is the only only time I would recommend using something like that, but I like to make sure that my ends are thoroughly detangled and I put my hair into a twist few options as to where you can't cut your hair. The first arrow will represent where I would technically recommend if you are just trimming your ends, but I haven't drilled my ends since October and they're in pretty bad shape. So I'm going to go a little bit higher, I'm not attached to dead, split ends or knots. So they can go, I'm okay to have a shorter hair or give myself a haircut at this point. Once you put your hair into a twist, and you run your fingers up and down the twist, you would definitely be able to tell where your split ends are you'll. Be able to tell that your hair, it's a lot rougher at the end, especially when your hair is moisturized, so once I cut it to us, I move on to the neck. I must your eyes thoroughly detangle. So this is a perfect example. Just split ends or drag the ends. You can tell that first of all, there's little hairs that are just dangling there and, as you look from my roots to my tips, you can see how much thinner my ends has gotten so, where I'm pinching with my fingers. Right now is where my hair drastically gets thinner. However, you don't have to cut that much hair, that's a lot of hair to cut, but when you pull on it, you also be able to see the state of your hair, especially your ends, and that will give you a good idea where you should cut. So personally, I will cut right there and before I cut I'll, make sure that things are a little bit even they don't have to be perfect. I don't really wear my hair straight ever so I'm not concerned with making my hair even so. This is the second method where you pull your hair thought in between your fingers and cut. I don't particularly love this method because, as you can tell it's not a lot of hair, that's left on the other side of my fingers, but with shrinkage you go ahead and pull on it. It'S a lot more hair than you think. So I feel like this method gives me a lot less control on how much hair I'm ready, cutting it's a good way to be able to analyze your hair before you cut it, however, but I prefer the first method uh when you get a fresh trim. Your ends are like butter. You can run your fingers through them. You can comb your hair, there's no matting, no tangles. It'S like a breath of fresh air. Once you're done trimming. I would recommend you put your hair into a twist and look at these ends. They'Re bouncing right back, it's beautiful if you're having a lot of tangles, breakage and matting at your ends. I would highly recommend getting yourself a trim and, if you're, just starting on your journey - and you really don't know just start about getting yourself a nice little trim and move on from there, because once your answer is getting tangled and matted, you definitely be able to Tell the difference and it'll be a lot easier for you to style your hair, so there's many many benefits to you getting a trim. So I like to trim my hair this way, because I'm left with my hair in medium sized twists, which is I don't like a protective style, and I just completely give myself a little break. So my hair is moisturized is twisted and I leave it that way. So trimming schedule: how often should you trim your ends? The rule of thumb is to trim your ends every three to four months. So a lot of people feel that this is too often or too much. How are you going to retain length if you're constantly cutting your ends? Now you can stretch it further if you'd like, depending on your hair care habits and how you care for your hair. Obviously you can do what you want, or you can just not trim you and all I mean no one's checking for you. Boo people typically say three to four months, and I agree with that at first. If you don't know how often we should do it, that's a good rule of thumb. However, what I've realized is that trimming your ends, that schedule is kind of personal. It depends on so many different factors, such as how often you moisturize how often you dip condition. How do you care for your hair? Do you use a lot of tools? Do you straighten your hair? Do you use heat so the best way for you to figure out hops and you should trim your ends, is to pay attention to your hair. So let's say today you watch this video and you decide to trim your ends great now, you're going to pay attention to them. You'Re going to fill around. You will feel for your split ends. You will understand. What'S going on with your ends, hopefully from the clips earlier you'll be able to tell exactly where to cut so then you can trim your ends cool mark down that day and then go about your day going about your haircare routine. Do your thing! So, let's say 2-3 months down the road you start noticing that your ends are rough again, you start noticing split ends. You notice single strand knots and you start feeling uncomfortable with the amount of matting and breakage. That'S happening now, you're going to trim your ends again. Once you do that, and you refer back to today, then you'll see how long it took for your ends to start feeling, bushy and split and have knots again. So then that becomes your trimming schedule and you could mark it down over. Let'S say the course of the next 2-3 trims and you'll see a pattern, and that will let you know how often you should be trimming your ends and that will be highly personalized. Based on your hair care habits, you get what I'm saying. I think it's the best way for you to trim your ends for you versus just following somebody else's routine. It'S been a while, since I actually cut my ends so today, when I cut, I did cut a fair amount. I'M ok with that. I'D rather have healthier. Hair then hold on to these straggly ends. Listen letting go of these ends. You are doing yourself a favor because your hair is going to grow and feel much more fuller, stronger and healthier. If you are growing your hair - and you want to hold on to this straggler yes and your hair is not going to it's going to be mad at all the time, and it's actually going to be more frustrated for you to care for you here. So I will highly recommend you to just let go of the dead ends and start fresh, so you don't have to cut a lot of your hair out. You just have to make sure you're paying attention and cutting off. You know what you feel is best, obviously, but you don't want to leave split ends in your hair because well, that's not a good thing all right. Well, that's all I have for you. I hope you got something out of this video, especially around the importance of trimming. Your ends, what you should be using to trim your ends, how often you should do it and how to go about it. If this video was helpful, give me a thumbs up. Leave a comment down below. If you have any more questions - and I will see you guys in the next one bye give me a thumbs up because we need to normalize hairstyles like this. Okay, we need to normalize 1/4. The twists. Look, how cute I love! I'M just saying you're missing out there's so many hairstyle that you are missing out on

Jenn Jackson: Y'all see how my eyelashes disrespected and DISGRACED me the whole TIME? RUUUDEEEE! I need to CUT them loose too

everydaywi: I love it! wr are going to pretend that I didnt give myself a trim with regular scissors last night

McKia Jones: A video I never knew I needed!!! My 14 yr old daughter and I just recently both cut our 8years & 2 years locs respectively. Well I cut mine (which means my hair length which is now a TWA is all over the place) while my daughter combed out her locs and her hair DEFINITELY looks like yours did before trimming! So we are definitely going to follow your method to trim her hair. Also thank you for enforcing the need for a proper hair scissor, cause your girl was about to get the scissors straight out of the kitchen! ‍♀️‍♀️

Alicia Alexander: I only started trimming my hair every 6mnths recently. Did my 3rd trim d other day and let me tell you, i have seen a drastic difference in my hair

SheRea DelSol: Love how you weren’t afraid to cut off what needed to go!

Fatoumata Dia: I trimmed my hair right after I finished watching your video !! And I have got to say I BADLY needed this ! But now thanks to you I am soooo feeling myself ! Milles mercis all the way from France ;)

Thuli Sibiya: Hey sis! Thank you for this video. I trimmed my hair for the 1st time in May and was so happy to see how much my hair has grown since the trim. I still find single strand knots but I try not to obsess over them or I'd go crazy! Lol much love from South Africa! Keep them video's coming sis❤

Donna-Marie Gyles: This video was life-changing for me as I came out of a big chop after 7 years of locs and trying to figure out my 4b 4c hair and its been an amazing journey thank you

Smangele K: This is a lovely video Jenn it came at a right time I'm trimming my hair this week. Well done Sis.

Roberta Jackson-Cooper: Watching as I deep condition, and now realizing I need to go ahead and trim my hair also. I don't remember how long it's been since I trimmed my hair and it definitely shows. And yes I'm totally rocking those twist too when I'm done with my trim!

Victoria Star: Thank you so much for the video!!!! I just finished doing the method that you just taught us, and my hair feels so amazing!!

Lisa Funchess: You are the truth. The most honest video regarding trims I've seem. Thank you for being so transparent. Our hair type is similar and I have been waiting on someone with thick hair like mine

Lebogang Komape: I love this!! I said I'm not going to trim my hair until I get the video from Jenn!! Now I can finally do it!!!❤❤

Queen Maahes: About to bleach and dye my hair again since it’s a new year “new outlook” lol. Definitely going to trim after I’m done with the process and I loved the tips. Twists are a great way to trim, but if your hair gets somewhat hidden inside of the twist, it’s a little hard to really get all the split ends, since you’re only paying attention to the ends able to reach the bottom of the twists and actually sticking out. Thx for the video queen!

Summer Hayes: You are gorgeous!!! And that smile this was extremely thorough and helpful. I just trimmed mine the other day and am chilling in my twists like you in this video, lol! Thank you!

Nikki J _23: Love the twist and the jewels to add some flava! Thanks for the tips, that is exactly how I trim my ends as well as my daughters! Btw your make up is on point as well! Love the color!

A1C Rivers: This video is very benefit for sure! I’ll definitely use the twist method when cutting my hair

Dangle Charms: Subscribed! Happy to bump into your channel. Us 4c ladies have gotta stick together!❤️ Looking forward to more of your content!

miniminott48: First, let me say you have beautiful, healthy hair. I love the style and wish my twists looked as good as yours but I have low to medium density hair so....I trim my hair every 4 months since big chopping at the end of March 2019. My hair only grows an average of 4 inches per year and I willingly trim at least an inch to an inch and a half in total within a year. I also cut knots that are too complicated to unravel. My hair is in the 7 to 8 inch range at this point and I can't wait to attain your length.

Sipokazi Pangwa: Immediately after this video which I watched around 2am,i went to take out my braids and today is the day to do all the right things to show my hair some love Jenn you are powerful❤️‼️I swear I was planning to keep my braids for 2 months

Mya Douglas: This video was refreshing I recently trimmed my edges and I love how bouncy they are now♥️

Charlotte Roberts: It looks like someone did thoroughly research. Great video! I know that I have been guilty in the past trying to holding onto those stringy pieces at the ends . Lately, I been doing search and destroy ✂️ ✂️ ✂️ it.

Rolanda Dorsey-Sanders: I just subscribed to your channel after watching LaToya Ebony's video today where she linked this video. I went all natural in May and I'm learning something new all the time. I twist my hair and rod it at the ends and it will last all week. I am noticing the knots at the ends so after watching this I'm thinking it's time for a trim. So thank you for this video. Going out tomorrow to invest in shears!

Your Soulmate: You’re so inspiring and motivating, thank you Lovely

Sipokazi Pangwa: Thank you so much Jenn❤️❤️This video was definitely useful, all your efforts are really appreciated

Stephanie Noel: And this is a great video! Thanks for show us how to trim our hair. Getting a trim is super expensive and I rather save money unless I am doing something specific. And if it doesn't turn out right protective styles hides the unevenness or there is always a chop method.

DellPickles: This is exactly how I maintain my ends between salon trims. Really helps to keep from cutting too much off!

christian carreras: Let me just say that I came across your channel recently and I just love your energy. Keep it going!!!!

J M: I agree the twist trim is better. I trimmed my ends this past Sunday and used the second method. I already notice less shredding, but when I moisturize and retwist tonight I'll get any scragglers I missed using the second method. Thanks sis

Cassida Morris: Yes just wanted to thank you for the video the tutorial it was very helpful for me it also helped me to identify the different types of split ends which I knew nothing about previously. One thing I know is when your arms with information you can do a better s taking care of her own hair p After many years raising a family I realized I was in a state of self neglect. This video was very inspiring. Thank you very much I look forward to seeing others and learning self-care

Shirl Starg: Loved it ! Thanks Wish I knew that when I had hair .Lol . Now I'm about to have another Big Chop cause my hair is a hot mess due to not treating my 4C hair the best ☹. I recently came across & I liked the video of your TWA Chop 3 yrs ago. That style is so cute & where I'm heading. When my hair re grows , I will use great hair care tips. . Thxs. ☺

kapparhotau181: Interesting method need to try. It's been 6 months or so since my last trim. Definitely time to trim as last few wash days has gotten longer due to matting and cob webbing from single strand knots ‍♀️

Chanté Adams: Very informative! Thank you!! ❤️

Eko_this: @Jenn, thanks so much for your amazing videos. I feel like I can relate so much. I subscribed after watching the first video. My hair tends to split in the middle, so it is not always that I have the slipt ends you've mentioned. my hair looks fine until I take a closer look and realise that the strand starts splitting maybe midway through the strand. do I start snipping then or is this maybe just open cuticle layers?

VxNx: would love a tutorial on this hairstyle!

Thembani Shiburi: Yaaas Jenn, it is educational and informational , you look amazing ❤. Thanks for the video sis. where to start I just unraveled one of my twist braids to check for splitting...I have quite a few now I gots to say goodbye to my little length and my hair takes forever to grow . This video is on point 1 week left on my braids and I'm getting a trim as per this video. Thanks ghurl

Elise G: Thanks for this video. I’m new to wearing my hair natural so this was very informative!

Deborah Lobban: Thanks so much for this video. You have given me so much information. And now I feel confident to trim my hair and my daughter hair.‍♀️

SHE McG: That was soooo good! I had to LOL @ your intro... Personally, I love to discover ssk’s & splits ends ✂️ and “destroy” them! ‍ (checkout my smile of satisfaction and the gleam in my eyes) As always, you are thorough and informative. Wishing you & your family the best! And yes... public viewing of twists, Girl!!! You look so cute! People stare at mine... I choose to believe that they like them. ❤️

Ebube Esiobu: I found split ends in my hair after taking out my 3 month old braids. So heartbreaking I guess it’s cause I didn’t deep condition at all that period. Now I’m on operation search and destroy

Brittany Lee: Thank you so much for the breakdown of the multiple methods & tips. First video I seen like this. Great video!

Billie Alexander: Weird but it means a lot to see someone with hair the same length as mine. A lot of the natural community on YouTube (that's prominent) seems to have either 3C/4A hair, or its just so long that it gets really discouraging. Nice to see someone with the same length as me that I can follow its growth.

Jamesetta Tambah: Love this video! I only trim my hair like this from now on!!

kame necole: So glad I've found your channel.. This is by far the most helpful way for me to clip my raggedy ends...

Naica J: I made the mistake of trimming my hair loose and not in twists for the first time in May, and now my hair is so uneven!

qtluv27: Thanks for the tutorial. I'm living outside of my home country, and have not had a trim in almost a year. I'm very skeptical about letting someone new do my hair. Especially with Covid lurking, going to a salon isn't first choice! I'm going to try method 1 on next wash day.. God bless me

Ashley B: Heyyy.. This video is right on time. I'm going to be trimming my hair in a few days... Might even wear my hair in the twist. Thank you for your videos they are very helpful!!

Toni: Love this look on you!

Nobesuthu Lucritia Mdluli: Thank you for the video, now I know why there's hair all over the place after combing my hair. Definitely going to trim it

HeyyAshleyyy: I only like to trim my hair when it’s in mini twists. I don’t trust myself to do it when my hair is loose LMAO. The only other time is when I get a silk press and let the stylist do it.

Styling By Seraph: Thank you for showing different methods! gonna try trimming my ends myself instead of going to the salon Would you say one side of you hair is shorter then the other? If so how did you go about trimming when one side is shorter than the other?

Sam I Am: MUCH needed video... with the quarantine (and even with it being a lil more relaxed now in some places) I'm not comfortable bein up in somebody's hair chair at a salon, but I know I am loooooooong overdue for a trim. I'm ok with whatever has to go, because when your hair is in a healthy state IT WILL GROW BACK ! Raggedy ends are not cute and take away from length retention and a potentially super-cute hairstyle looking its best. Thanks a bunch for this one Jen ! #letthemgo it's gonna be ok

Kinky Curly E: Love you so much, I love your videos. I almost went crazy when I could not find your videos one day. Keep it going Jenn

SOULFULLYPARIS: Make Up & Hair are BOMB We need a updated make-up tutorial ! PERIODT !

Gipsy Spirit: Very helpful. Thank you

Tiffani W: This is right on time. Took my box braids down yesterday, pre-pooing and today is wash day.

just me: I trimmed my hair one time and I did it even and I was feeling myself then I get the school the next day and my friend was like “did you use normal scissors” and I said “yes” all confident and it was immediately shut down lol but now I got it lol

Life With Lyvonne: Super informative! Thank you :)

Enn Vee: This hairstyle is so cute

BusyDayDreaming: Thanks for the tips. I think my hair is about due for a trim.

Williams J: Very informative video. Love that hairstyle on you.

EyeChocolate: Very helpful! Thank you!!

N Ca: Twists look gorgeous... Like little decorative dreads.

AnimeChiqett: This was very helpful. Thank you sooooo much!!!!

Glory Ometere: This is the most helpful video on trimming I've seen. Thanks

kam kam: I just sat here and cut off about an inch plus of the ends of my twists. Thanks, boo!!!

Winter Bear: I didn't even know I had split ends, but when I watched this video and saw ur split ends, I saw that my ends look like that too, I will definitely trim my hair after I take out my protective style (in like less than a week)

Sebongile Maseko: Love u sis ❤ u are like my hair guru ❤ U are an inspiration I enjoy watching ur vids so much

Tee Jack: I live in a true 4-season country. Therefore, I trim my ends at the beginning of each season. If I don't follow this rule, I would trim my ends more often than necessary.

Lola Bolaji: Thank you, I've just subscribed and I'll be trimming my hair tomorrow!

Carolyn Johnson: Very helpful! Thank you so much!!

GeorgiaTL: Very informative video Jen, thanks.

Taliana Riettien: I prefer the second method when cutting my hair. I able to see the damage better as well as maintain my shape

Mariam Halfani: That advice was needed- trim according to your hair. Cause I was doing the y months regimen, and here I am puzzled why I have thinning ends but not as many split ends. Def a thumbs up for the hairstyle before the advice.

Dembe Takalani Ramukosi: Hey Jenn. Please can you film a video about caring for your hair during a protective style. I love watching your videos

Mobile Therapeutics By Shanique: Fairy knots will always be there for thick dense coily 4c hair whether trimmed or not

Oarabile Setshedi: So my hair is about 6 cm long and last year I kept trimming my hair about 3 cm down after every 4 months bc I liked my hair at that height. Recently I noticed it hasn't been growing well and I do all the haircare habits except hair trimming. My question is...should I trim my hair at this height even though I have a few knots and split ends and I can't put my hair in twists bc it's short?

Solmom03: Great tips. I feel like I see or feel the last one most. I need some new shears so I can do a clean trim!

macia hughes: My hair sure feels like butta with a good trim. Thanks for the advice. I’m a lazy natural but trying to do better.

UniquelyJames: Great video. I gave you a . Quick Question: I wish you would have covered mid-shaft splits... Can you share your thoughts on what you believe this means for a person (since you mentioned that the types of split-ends people receive "tell" on that person). Thanks in advanced.

Barbara Moore: Going to invest in a good pair of scissor and then give myself a trim. Thanks Jenn for the helpful tip. You’re the Best.

Lydia Beckles: Your hair looks healthy. I am due for a trim, never did it for myself before, will try the twist and trim method.

Dominique Belgrave: VERY HELPFUL ! I always thought I was cutting too much when I would slide my hair between two fingers and cut what's "bushy" at the end, because when you pull on that bushy part, its really a lot of undamaged hair. I like this "twist and clip" way you did it. Thats my new way !

DDJ My3sons: I said the same thing, about normalizing your hairstyle. It looks very nice. #4Ccommunity

Larissa Perry: Are the products you use ok for low porosity hair? My daughter has 4C hair, but it's low porosity. Recently, I've purchased products that are geared toward low porosity hair, but I don't notice a difference with her hair being more moisturized. What are your thoughts?? Thanks

Ebipadei Ayomideji Azebi: I started my natural hair journey 4 years ago and had no clue what to do and I'm still a lot clueless, so I just had my first trim and ended up cutting almost half my length, it that bad , a lot needed to go

Aleera 45: I needed this cause I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t think I should trim my hair so thank you so much❤️❤️

purplegal05: I went to two different stores today trying to find scissors and everyone is sold out! I guess everyone is trying to DIY at home lol

Alisa Spraggins: Look the jumbo twist Jenn, it is cute, love this hair style!

JungleBros TV: Thank you for this video. I’m new to this DIY hair trimming.

Caroline Silva: Olá, adoro os seus vídeos. Você é linda! ♥♥

alldatzyall: I twist my hair in small chunky twists. 16 in total and trim the ends off.

Lena W: This video makes me so sad bc I really don’t wanna cut my ends. I went natural about 8 months ago by doing the big chop and I just can’t cut anymore. It’s been really hard and now my first trim coming soon

Lovina Okoronkwo: I got a trim six weeks ago and I feel like I need another one I’m so sad because it’s never going to get long if I keep having to cut it. It’s super annoying. I usually get it trimmed at the shop, but I wanna try it on my own. I’m just afraid of it coming out uneven and weird.

Yogie Gemini: Liked, shared and subscribed. I really need to shave my head and start over, but I don't want to do that. My split ends are severe, so I need a professional to remove 3" of my shoulder length hair and repeat. Then wear braids until it grows back. Some spots its shredded from ends to scalp. Thanks for sharing. I will buy a pair of shears so I can prevent this from happening again and developing into such a severe state.

The Universe of Self Love: Thank you this was really informative

Ogoo Osuala: Thank you so much for this
