Hey guys today, I'm doing a super requested video. So many of you guys wanted me to show you how I do Olivia's hair and today it's finally the day I was so excited. I was actually really nervous to film this video, because anyone who has kids know that when it's washday, especially kids with natural hair, there can be a lot of whining and a lot of stress involved in it. So I wasn't really sure how it would work out, especially with the filming and on top of that, but I'm so happy and proud of Olivia. She did such a good job. Olivia has very similar hair to me, except for it's looser and curl pattern. It'S a lot silkier and it's more fine than my hair, so it took me a little bit time to figure out how to work with her hair, especially since she's so active, she's, so hyper and she has so much energy. She just loves to run around tumble roll in the carpet in the grass and all that kind of stuff, so her hair has gone through a lot in the past four years, but I finally have a routine with her hair that has been working. Hair has been growing, very strong and healthy, and the best part about it is that it's very simple, so the routine that you're going to see in this video is what I do every single week. I always install a protective style in her hair and that protective style is usually cornrows, because I stay in her hair really well, they last throughout all the rumbling and tumbling that she's doing throughout the week. She wants to go swimming or she wants to get it wet. It'S totally fine and the best part is that her hair isn't tangled, and so when it comes to wash day again, it's a lot easier to go through wash day because it's not any tangles or anything like that. So this is what I've been doing every week. It'S worked really really well. I usually save any like cute hairstyles that I want to do like those little puffs or like if I, if she works her hair out. That will only be on special occasions, which is why you don't really see it on my Instagram. A lot because she's usually just wearing cornrows and that's how we like it and that's how she likes it, and my only goal is that when she gets old enough to do her hair, she will have hair on her head to do. And so that's what we're trying to do. I don't care if she doesn't have like a bomb hairstyle every single day, agile, her to have hair on her head and be able to let her have an active lifestyle as a kid. So that's what the goal is here, if you guys have any questions about this process, just put them in the comment section below and I'll try to answer as many as I can hope you guys enjoy the video. I hope it's helpful and I'll see ya. After ok, so I wash her hair in the bathtub, it's just easier for me, and then I can wash her body right after I keep her hair in a braid, a protective style throughout the week. So I just took the braids out. I grabbed my care back. Visor, this thing is seriously a lifesaver Olivia hates when the water touches our face and she freaks out. So this helps to contain the water and keep it off her face. It does a really good job, so I'll put that on and then I rinse her hair to get it wet for shampoo. Taking the visor off, I grab my DIY african black soap, shampoo and I'll place a link for the recipe in the description box. I just apply that to her scalp and work it in making sure to massage her scalp and loosen any dirt, getting it nice and clean and you'll notice. Those suds are brown, that's just the color of the soap placing the visor back on and I got a drip of water in her face. So naturally, she's freaking out I'm just gon na rinse that shampoo out of her hair, oh and I should probably mention I have a double showerhead attachment, which makes it really easy for me to wash your hair in the tub this one's by Moen, and it has A really long hose attachment to reach across the tub. It also has different pulse speeds, so the water doesn't fly all over the place and it happens to make my water pressure better. I will, of course, link the model I have in the description box. So after rinsing all the shampoo out remove the visor again and I'm grabbing one of my current favorite deep conditioners by Shea Moisture, the mongongo and hemp seed oils high porosity, moisture seal mask. I love that it's really hydrating. It helps to seal the moisture into the hair cuticles and it's made with all natural ingredients that protect and fortify the hair. Olivia'S hair does really well with pretty much anything that works well on my hair, and this mask is no exception to that rule. So I make sure to work this into every strand using a bit of water to help make it more slippery. Then I split her hair into sections to detangle working small sections. At a time I finger detangle first and then gently detangle with a wide tooth comb grabbing, another small section and repeat finger to tangle and gently come out with a wide tooth comb. Now I just repeat on the rest of our head working gently as to not anger the child when it's all nice and detangle grab your bath, visor and rinse, and I make sure to rinse really really well, you don't want any of that. Conditioner left on the scalp just make sure that it's nice and clean and here's just another view of that visor just to show you how well it works, no tears, yay and Olivia's favorite part of this routine when we're done a cover of her hair. With a t-shirt to catch all that excess water, and then I just secure the t-shirt with a hair tie, so she can walk around with it. Alright time to style. Her hair for this Olivia watches cartoons and gets snacks to keep her occupied and that helps to reduce the whining and fussiness. I'M going to steal the moisture into her hair using my DIY mango and kawasu butter mixture and, of course, I'm going to add the recipe in the description box. Now Olivia likes to play really rough during the week. So, in order to keep her hair healthy and protected, I always braid her hair up, always sometimes the style changes but for the most part, I'm usually installing cornrows in our hair, because it's quick, painless and lasts throughout the week without coming undone so parting, our hair And working one row at a time I'm going to rehydrate the hair using rose water, which is extremely hydrating moisturizing, and it just smells amazing boys hair dries out really fast. So this helps to replenish that moisture and using a tiny bit more of that DIY mango buttercream to help steal the moisture in and don't worry, I'm not being rough with her hair here. This girl just has no control over her neck, definitely living up to her bobblehead name, gently combing out the section one last time and I just cornrow back for me. Cornrowing someone else's hair is a lot easier than doing it on my own hair. So this usually goes pretty fast. If you want a detailed cornrowing tutorial, I've already created one and I'll link in the description box, for you give the hair a little twirl at the end of the cornrow to seal the braid in and move on to. The next row now repeat: hydrate with rosewater, especially the ends seal the moisture in with a cream based sealant, I'm using my DIY mango butter, comb, the section out gently and cornrow back, oh and time for a new snack is a team effort, y'all and daddy's on Snack Duty and that's it now, just repeat on the rest of the head, making rows hydrating ceiling and cornrowing, and I don't worry too much about making these braids super perfect. She'S, four and those braids are gon na get frizzy by mid week. So just do your best! So when I'm done, here's how Olivia's hair looks nice and shiny moisturize braids with a healthy, clean scalp. This protective style is vital in helping Olivia's hair grow healthy and strong, because she's so active. She needs a hairstyle. That'S going to resist cooling rubbing and getting dirty or wet. I'Ve tried so many hairstyles, and this one is the most reliable yet and may show some other easy protective styles that work too later on. If you guys are interested just, let me know in the comments below all right, Olivia, that's it say bye. So that's it! That'S how easy it is to do her hair. This process usually takes about an hour and a half to an hour 45 depending on her mood and how she's doing oh yeah I'm having to do this every single week in order to keep her hair healthy. Otherwise, I risk knots when her hair gets pretty damaged. If I leave it in for longer, you put head bands on to make it look cuter, you can wrap them under. You can do so many different things with the cornrows. So it's not like it's super limiting. You can still dress it up and let her have hair accessories while you have it, but it's just better for Olivia's hair that I keep it in there that way, her hair can grow and still resist all the activity that she's doing so. I hope that this video helped, if you guys have a daughter or son with similar hair type and you're having issues, has really really worked for me and it's so simple. If you have any questions, just leave them below, and if you like this video, I will show you some more petition cells I like to do their hair. Sometimes I do switch it up, even though you like the cornrows, because you know change is nice. Sometimes alright, guys I'll see you the next one. If you missed the last video, it was a Halloween special, it was so much fun. I promise you, it is not scary and has a really really good message. If you want to see my Halloween special titled squad goals, you click the link on top. Alright guys hope to see you there

Alyssa Shalom: When you don't even have a kid so your basically just watching this because A. You are obsessed with curly hair routines B. Olivia is too cute to not watch

GirlYouAlreadyKnow: Olivia is so lucky to have a momma so educated on natural hair. A lot of black girls are forced into perms cause their moms don't know what else to do with their hair. This makes me happy

FallnAngel07: There's nothing more special than a mother doing her daughter's hair. it's a bonding moment

Shanique Buntyn: such a helpful video! ill try and remember this for the future :D

Isabella: Whoever invented the bath visor is a genius I wish it was created when I was little .

Breonna: I often wonder what it would be like if black women were knowledge about their hair from the beginning and relaxers were never invented. I bet most of us would be walking around with long healthy hair and seeing a black woman with long curly or straight natural hair would not be a big deal.... Olivia is so stinking cute. Such a happy child.

Ida Renee: "My only concern is that when she gets older she has hair to do!" So true with little girls!! I realized I was wasting my time trying to do this elaborate styles for my daughter who is very active and just being a kid! Protective styling is the way to go.

JoiDior: Olivia turns 4 this month. OMG, can't believe I've been watching her grow up for 4 years. Her hair looks so healthy. Thank for sharing your lives with us. Love your vlog and hair channels!

Danielle Tong: You have THE BEST hair goals for your little one. A hairstyle that keeps her hair on her head and let's her be a kid. Perfect!

Tieasha Samuels: Awesome routine! My daughter is 6 & since she was about 1 she would have a panic attack if 1 drop of water touched her face! Nothing has changed unfortunately. I do the same-wash every week, deep condition & braid it up! Olivia's hair has grown so well & looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing

Jasmine Joseph: What I love about this video is how much consideration, dedication, and attention that goes into Olivia's routine. I work with kindergartners throughout the week and have seen so many mothers, either because of lack of information or care, style their daughter's hair in extremely tight braids, buns, and other styles where their hairlines are being pulled and there is little to no moisture on their scalp or strands. It is hard for a young girl to feel confident and comfortable if her tresses are not properly kept up with, and it can affect their hair and confidence in the long run too. I hope many women see this and take the time, as Whitney has so well demonstrated, to formulate a routine that keeps their daughter's hair healthy, practical, and self-esteem building.

Monique Walker: She's so cute and her hair looks so healthy and shiny!!! Great share thanks Whit!!!

Toni Chauntel: I've been watching since before Oya was born, makes no sense her hair is longer than mine now love!

Brioche🍞: Quick and painless did not go in the same sentence as "cornrows" when I was a kid lol

TishaTheBrave: I've been waiting years for this!!! Olivia is soooooooooo cute and so patient in this video I know she's full of energy on the vlogs so it's soooo nice to see her in this routine chilled out! another great video Whitney!

Whitney Geathers: She is absolutely beautiful! I just had a baby girl and I'm so nervous about doing her hair lol this video helped a lot

kikicouture10: I love this video so much, I love seeing moms doing their daughters hair and teaching them about their hair as well. Olivia is so adorable.

im_kea: thank you for linking that visor. I thought my son was the only one who freaks out when water gets in his face. Now it won't be such a hassle to wash his hair :) Olivia is sooooo cute!

Felicia D R: Loved the video! I would like to see more protective styles that you do for her hair. Im expecting my 1st child in April and Im trying to get a jump start on what to do in the event I have a girl:)

rogueteacher1: This is my new go-to video for kid's styling! My daughter is almost 4 and wash day is also known as the Devil's day at my house.

kitkat8: Lord, this reminds me of when my mom would do my hair around that age. Same, exact style. Olivia has grown so much! Love this and thanks for sharing!

Lindsay Roe: Would love to see more protective styles! She's a doll, thanks for letting us in on your routine!

Daé J: Look at all that hair you're doing such a great job Whitney!

Briana Brown: I love it!! my stepdaughter's hair is on the come up after swimming for 2 years straight & we're in need of a routine. She's been transitioning! MORE VIDEOS of your daughters protective styles PLEASEEEE!

Nawal Khaled: She's so cuteee❤❤ I'm really happy to see you teaching her to love her natural hair and not bother about having straight hair..Love from Sudan

Kimmie Latrice: I love you for not compromising on your daughter's hair when it comes to pleasing other people when they suggested you should have Oya hair fried, dyed, and laid to the side (using extreme exaggeration here). I loved your comment about just making sure she has hair on her head when she gets older! I see so many young girls that don't because of temporary styling by their parents that ruined their hair follicles.

Aiwah Ky: Wow Olivia's hair looks like mine I'm expecting a daughter next month and she's my first child. I know I won't have to do this ^ for years to come but I like to see what I gotta look forward to

MoreSwahiliNaps: Oliviaaaaa! She's so cute I'm gonna diiiieee! she's adorable and I love her. Felt all kinds of fuzzy watching this . Great job with her hair Whitney! Such a simple routine but quite effective. Do you ever put a processing cap when you apply deep conditioning or do you always just leave it in while detangling?

Chantell HowardBaber: my daughter's hair type is just like Olivia's and gets dry really fast. I noticed hair starting to break off more (she's ten with hair almost to her butt) and I knew I needed to change up her hair regimen fast. thanks for the tips, will definitely get the rose water and try out the mango butter recipe soon.

Sava: She is soooo cute! I can't believe she's already 4 years old, I remember her being born like yesterday! Time really does fly! That ironic moment when you saw Olivia's birth and her hair is already longer than yours tho! Welp, I guess it is what it is!

tinamarie2484: So adorable! Thanks for the tutorial! I've been waiting for this to see what I can implement in my daughter's wash day. I will definitely have to purchase that rose water cause my daughter's hair dries fast too and I gotta get back to applying mango butter in her hair.

Khalilah KJ: OYA! Makes me so happy to see Black girls loving their hair. So much confidence

Amber Marie: She is so cute! And I love the dynamic that you guys have with her. Even in the short clips of your lives, we can see how amazing and genuine you are.

Cam B: I just love how gentle you are with her hair and moisturizing it so well! It breaks my heart to see some moms rip their daughters hair apart. This is something I will strive for as a mommy! Great Video!

MIL85SB: Thank you so much for this! I do the same thing to my daughter's hair. Cornrows are definitely the easiest route to go!

Valentíno Quiñones: GIRLLAA this video is going to be a hit! A+mazing as always!!! Olivia is soo cute! She makes me want my daughter like NOWW! She gets it from her momma ! #werqboo!

CocoB: awesome vid ladies!! I'm definitely interested in more easy protective styles!! I'm expecting my first baby soon and I need all the help I can get with little people hair!!

Ciara_Sha'Ron: I love Livy she's like a perfect blend of you and Felipe. I love watching kid styling and wash day video even though I don't have kids yet. Her curls are absolutely beautiful. I love that she gets to be a kid without worrying about getting her hair messed up.

Maria Kovacs: Yay! Great video! White mama here with two gorgeous black sons and I'm so eager to learn how best to care for their hair. You made cornrows look so easy! Going to check out your tutorial video now! Thank you, thank you!

Tatiana: Gosh she is so adorable!! Her hair pattern reminds me of mine so I'm gonna try that deep conditioner... but wow you've done a great job at keeping her hair healthy & flourishing❤️

Catherine Martinez: As my 4 yr old daughter and I watch this video she got excited when you said she's 4. She immediately started waving at her. Lol this is similar to our routine but her hair is tailbone length and super curly but it's starting to dry and break at the ends so looking for a new routine. Thanks for the video!

TB: She's gonna be so thankful when she's older.

Emerald Claire: Who else has waited for this !!! Thanks whit!☺️

Aiyana Kaizen: Be my mom! That routine looks so moisturizing and relaxing.

Astin Alexander: Reminds me of my mom and my little sister's weekly routine. Super cute!

Archangel Ariel: It makes me so happy when I see women like you, raising your child natural. I wish I had that, but instead I got the hot comb with Vaseline lmfaooo. I'm glad your daughter is going to have a mother to teach her about hair health. She'll be confident in her curls from a young age.

PowerInYourCurl: Amazing job Whit! I have fine hair that tangles really easy as well and wearing my hair in two corn rows throughout the week cuts down DRASTICALLY on my tangling, knots and the time it takes me to detangle. You and Fillipe are doing such a great job with Olivia ♥️

Dee Dee: Thank you for this video! I definitely want to see more. Also, if you could talk more about how her hair has changed since birth and any challenges you've had along the way that would be great! My daughters still under a year so it would be great to have an idea of maintenance at this stage too. Thanks

Sheila Jackson: I would love to see more protective style for kids. I loved this video<3 Thanks for sharing

AnArchaicSoul: I love that you've chosen to have Oya's hair accommodate her active lifestyle instead of looking cute every day of the week!! She has her whole life to do that and it's super nice to know that you're just letting her be a kid! Best mom ever!

K. Essence: I adore your family. I have been watching way before Oya was born lml. I love the fact that Felipe helps out. You are so right it is a team effort. ❤️❤️

Verlesha W.: Great vid! My kid's wash day has taken over my wash day, so I had to start wearing protective styles, which is fine bc I'm growing my natural hair back out after a chop. Love the vid! I'm currently doing chunky braids for my two year old. That way she can wear them down or up in a ponytail. I would love to see more vids like this. Thanks for sharing.

iLOVENYCgirl: To the scrooges that watched this video and gave it a thumbs down, what in the world kind of person are you?! smh. Kudos to Whitney and Miss Oya! Great video.

filmgeek17: Aww Olivia is so adorable! Her hair is getting really long, good job! Love it

MissLolaBunny: Her hair texture is almost identical to my daughters. Thanks for this video Whitney!! I realize I should have been conditioning all this time. I didn't think I needed to but it makes sense. I need that little rinse cap too. Thanks again!

Jamie: I've been waiting for this video since Olivia's birth . I'm in love ❤️

KayCam: Olivia is such a beautiful girl!! My stepdaughter has the same hair texture and although it's beautiful, her hair can knot up so fast!! Love the detailed process and outcome, I'm still working on my cornrows

Lania Theresa: Olivia's hair is so beautiful! I pray when she gets older & does her own hair that she learns from her mama on how to take care of it! (Although all curly girls go through having to learn their own hair & dealing with issues that come with it lol)

prettyinpink9893: I LOVE that she wears cornrows. Whitney lights up when she talks about Olivia

With Love: Love, love, love! Oya is absolutely adorable and this was helpful due to me having my own daughter's hair to take care of. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to more kids hair tutorials!

Emmaplayz: Thanks soooo much for this! I do our Olivia's hair the same way...never knew about that visor. She's three so she will definitely appreciate it!

Sarah Joyce: Love this! Super helpful, more videos on how to keep young hair healthy!

Carol Hairston: Darn, wish we had things like this back in the 80's when my daughter was growing up. Her hair was THICK with a capitol "T", and very coarse, and LONG past her shoulders. You know we had no natural hair products or hair care routine back in the day, so we missed out. What you ladies have now is wonderful. I can pass this on to my daughter-in-law for my granddaughter. Think of all the young girls that thought using a perm was the best thing for their hair (even me back in the day). Great job on this video, and I hope to see more of this as well.

Haley Hamsher: Omg ! Olivia is adorable! She does really well on Wash Day!

NaturallyCouya: This was Amazing, Oya is getting so big and she is so adorable!! can't wait until my 8 month old niece gets a little bigger and her hair starts growing in more, her hair is like my sisters when she was young, but it will most definitely grow in really fast once it starts coming in.! Great video.

Life of Diana: Oh she is so sweet!!!! I love her wash day and she sat so still to let you do her hair. Very beautiful hair! I like that you do a simple protective style on her and your goal is to allow her to have hair on her head when she gets older! That should be one of the goals of every parent for their little girls (black or biracial). Love it!!!

naturalbeyouty: Go Mommy! I love seeing Moms do their kids natural hair - instilling a sense of pride in what God gave them. Ok now I want to see this all over again, but Phillipe's turn. :-)

_ThaButterfly TV: Ughh I just love Olivia!!!! Idk what it is about her...her spirit.. she just reminds me of my younger self. I love her to pieces!!! Growing up so fast! she's a force to be reckoned with honey!!

Shelda Silva: I can't believe how much she's grown! Beautiful baby girl with beautiful hair

Tee G.: Good job mommy and daughter. Love the visor idea, wish I had thought of this for my daughter and son

Rosannasfriend: Olivia is too adorable! She smiles bigger and more often than ever in these recent videos! Thanks for sharing!

L.I. Law: Yesss! Let the baby be a baby. I have two girls, 4 and almost 3 and I've been waiting to see what you do with Olivia's hair. I bet she enjoyed bathing in a bathing suite!

HerMajesty's Magical Queendom: OMGOSH, little Oya has gotten so big. She is such a beauty. One more year and she will be starting kindergarten. Jeez time flies.

Heidi Vega: So informative and helpful. I get the feeling my baby girl is going to be very active as she gets older. Thank you for sharing! ✌️

Hey Momma Rob: Love this video! I have found that simple is key with both my daughter's hair as well!

Ashanti Travey: Amen!! I agree wholeheartedly to "having hair to do"'when she gets older!! My daughter's hair is the same texture as Olive's except hers is thinner and around her edges still hadn't fully grown in. So Im still trying to figure it out as well . Thank you so much for the video!

soulfyrestar: Olivia's getting so big!! She's too cute Hair curl pattern is on fleek!

Ayanna L: Awesome job! A great, simple routine. <3

Ness Browne: So adorable! Thanks for sharing. Yes we want to see more protective styles.

Nina Edwards: Lol " As to not anger the child." The struggle lol I know I gave my mother hell when she used to try to do my hair growing up lol I was so tender headed

Lady L: This is how I basically have to do 2 of my sons hair. I need that visor for my 3 year old, he freaks out when water touches his face too but he is not as patient as Olivia.

XxKIKIBxX: yesssss been waiting for this video for years!!!!!. my daughter is mixed and has pretty much straight hair with a slight curl, but it still dries out super easy and it doesn't really hold a style. even though she doesn't have the tightest curls I try to follow natural hair rules when it comes to moisturizing. Still looking for styles that will work with her hair type, she has so much hair now and its starting to tangle and dry out!!! would Love to see other protective styles, so that I may finally get an idea for my daughters hair.

Saqlain Micah: Olivia has such beautiful hair! I really hope when she gets older and does her own hair she looks after it, so beautiful

Lavonya Antrice: This is a great video. My daughter had her hair in braids all growing up during the week and then pony tails on weekends(or flip flop). She didn't stop getting braids until middle of 6th grade. Her hair was always long and healthy from using protective styles growing up. Now she is 14 and she got her first hair cut and feels good for not having such heavy hair, but misses the length. I told her that was 14 years of growth. I said all that to say, your daughter will love you so much for taking care of her hair as she grows up.

jaylahahah: stunning hair, daughter, momma, personality, and video overall! lovin' it

Corine W: I'm relaxed now but I wish my mom was this gentle with my hair when I was natural. literally i used to be scared to get my hair done but this is beautiful to watch and I'll definitely be taking tips for my future daughter. thanks for sharing !

Jazmyne Bothun: My mom kept our hair braided up too. It was amazing for my hair growth, my braids were like to my hips. Planning on doing the same with my kids

Aisha Murphy: One word...ADORABLE!!! I swear I could care less about the hair regimen. I just had to watch Olivia. OMG!!! she is sooooo CUTE!! God bless your family.

Janice: Adorable style for an adorable lil girl!!! Love your routine thanks for sharing it with us #blackgirlmagic :)

Veranda Baker: OMG I had to watch this because Oliva is scrumptious! I wish I knew how to corn row braid sheeezeee Thanks for this! I can't believe she is almost 5 as I am watching this in October of 2017!! Time flies!!!

xxthisboyisgonexx: This was soo cute!! I'd love to see more of the styles you do for Oya! ^-^

Tonya West-Sheppard: Awe! Olivia's growing so fast, and she's a beauty just like mommy!

Candace Bailey: Love this! My mother did the same for my hair until I went to middle school.

Julie Murphy: Your videos & a few others from different youtubers have rly helped me do my niece's hair! She has a slightly similar texture & my SIL has gone through sooo many different products trying to find the right one

Cristine Anderson: I love your posts!! I'm so glad you made one about your daughters hair! I met my now husband 5 years ago and he has two young daughters from a previous marriage. I knew nothing about their hair (he is black his ex wife white) the kids are mixed. Because of your page I learned sooooo much and now we (all of the parents) are on the same page as far as learning through this hair journey with them! I look forward to more videos of you styling Olivia's hair :)

OooSolala: This reminds me of my moms and I hair routine when I was growing up! I'm in my late thirties now and am half black, like Oya! My mom is Hispanic and had to figure out what to do with my hair, which wasn't easy- no YouTube tutorials lol. She did a good job though and that was time for us together every week as she cornrowed my hair. Thanks for reminding me of the good memories. I wonder if I could get her to cornrow my hair now

Rona Wahrmann: Thank you sooooo much!!!!I have a 4 year old too!!Needed this, please keep em coming..

Forever Ethereal: I have no doubt Olivia will have a great head of hair when she's older. She's got the best help to get there. Such a beautiful child!

Jennifer: Beautiful daughter! You're doing an amazing job with her hair

Samantha Pollack: 'This girl has no control over her neck' Ahaha I'm dead!!
