natural hair journey hair loss breakage the ordinary hair serum

Hey guys, it's laila welcome back to the channel, and today i'm coming at you guys with a topic that obviously i think we have all experienced at some point in our lives. Okay, maybe not all of us, but i did get some braids. Whilst i was away in ghana, i think i kept them for four weeks - it's very possible that it was less than four weeks um, but i'm gon na air on the side of about roughly give or take four weeks and yeah. Basically, they took out my edges. That'S the point of this video is that we're gon na um discuss how we can fix my edges and hopefully, in me trying to fix my edges. You might learn something new as well. So what's the four one one um? Basically, i got my braids done and actually, when i was, i was getting the braids um. The lady did the part and she was like. Oh do you want to check it, make sure it's central. I checked it that bad boy looked amazing. It was perfect. Okay. I love a center part as you guys, i'm pretty sure you know. I love a center part anyway. Um sat there, for god knows, however many hours it took, it was quite quick. Actually i had like maybe four people braiding, my hair, so you know typical um african radar photo braided in my hair and um. So they finished, they handed me the mirror and the part was literally three braids long and my braids were quite small, so jj so um yeah, the braids were quite small. I'M gon na put some pictures in of my braids, but the part was literally this long. Hopefully my camera is gon na. It was about this long. Okay, it was not much. It was literally this, so what i actually ended up doing is i wore my braids in a bun i wore my braids in the bun the whole i wore my braids in the bun the whole entire time. The whole four weeks i actually even went to bed with my braids in a bun and which i knew i knew it was affecting my edges, but obviously like around that time. I just didn't care essentially, so i forgive myself for that. Um anyway, i'm gon na show you what it looks like close up. Okay guys. So hopefully you can see my edges, it's nice and clear and in focus, but this is my right hand side, which i think is not as bad as my left. I think my left is worse side and i think it's quite clear you can see that, like my hairline is quite thin up until here, whereas that was never really the case. Even here you can tell the hair, like is a bit thin before it gets a bit dense again, so take my glasses off. This is what the side looks like, and this is what this side looks like. This is about an inch worth of receding. It'S receding now, i'm so i'm so annoyed um. Even this little bit doesn't even join up to the rest of my hair anymore, because it's like broken off so look at it right there um, usually, i would just leave it because i know that they will recover. Just based on, like my usual healthy hair habits, um, you know treatments and stuff like that. They will naturally recover back, but i actually decided to use because i bought this. I bought this when they first launched it um and i just never opened it never used it. It sat in my cupboard for so long and it is, it is the ordinary's haircare um. It is the multi peptide serum for hair density, and it says a concentrated serum for hair that looks thicker denser, fuller and healthier. I want to try this instead of like an oil, i'm very curious to see how it would work and i think using it on my edges is easier to monitor than using it on, like my actual entirety of my head. If i use this, i don't know if i would notice that my hair looked thicker against that fuller and healthier um as immediate as i would. If it was something like my edges, as you can tell, they clearly are desperate for some. You know jesus miracle, so i'm gon na try this out and i'm actually gon na give it three months because i feel like for all topical treatments and stuff like that three months is a good period to expect to see a result. So that's what i'm gon na do and i'm gon na come back. I'M gon na update you guys if you're interested in trying it um, then you can check it out. Maybe you can join me on my three months but um. I want to personally do this and then come back to you guys and let you know how it's gone and if it's actually works, do you know what i mean so if it does work then maybe we can. Then all of us can do like a challenge and then try on our scalp or whatever the case is, but the fact that it's more of an emollient base is a winner for me. I i would prefer not to be oiling my scalp with an oil and leaving it overnight every single day until wash day to keep in mind that i wash my hair. Let'S say every like five to seven days and that's a lot of oil build up on my edges and i could wash my edges every day. But what hairstyle permits that you know what i mean say: bye, bye, say bye. Are you sad it's going to grandma anyway? I hope you guys are well and yeah. I just wanted to share that with you. You know. Once again, you know i like to keep it real. I like to remind you guys that me too, i'm human and i don't have a perfect hair day every day and i do lose my edges too sometimes games. These ones got snatched, um, snatched and shipped back to ghana, so i'll catch. You guys in my next video bye, look hi jj, you say: hi, okay, say hi, hey um,

Forever Blessed: Laila your broken edges is my perfect edges. That's how my edges look all the time without anything breaking off

Daniah Miller: My edges slid back a little bit after my last protective style. Girl, I couldn't even be bothered. I'm like "they're on sabbatical, they'll be back by spring" I can't!!

IrieMarie22: “I’m sure my nape is also suffering a similar fate” Laila you always manage to keep a lightness and joy about you even in the midst of struggle lol. Hoping they come back in quickly!

Queen Beee: I swear the sniffy thing with baby is a universal black thing we all do it! My family is so proud that my nephew just picked it up (he also uses it to show off his new teeth). It’s completely adorable but why are we like this?

Fruits are life: My hair was shedding a lot, the only thing that stopped it naturally was consuming avocado, egg and flax seeds everyday. For example in a sandwich in the morning. After 3 days I barely lost hair. And it started growing stronger and healthier

Kashleigh B: I really would killllllll for this level ‘edgeless-ness’ my edges really hate me LOL I can grow them longer but they’re basically see through

rachelmm05: Some years back I got my hair braided at a African salon here in the U.S. I remember asking the braider not to braid too tight... she said ok. I got the style done and was out in a good amount of time... about an hour later here comes the pain.... no matter what I put on my scalp nothing helped to relieve the tightness.. in less than a week I had to remove them. My hair got severely damaged and took a while to regrow..lesson learned, never again.

Angel Harmony: This is another fear of mine losing my edges to braids. But I can’t wait for the update in 3 months. Also JJ is so adorable ❤️.

Cherelle :D: Aaaaaaah!!! I'm going through the same thing ‍♀️ we can do this girlie xx

Freshie Smith: this product is❤️ great. Any type of castor oil did not do nothing for me. But this made them super strong so they wouldn't break off so easily, and so allowed the new ones that grew in, to be strong too.

Kay Ayy: Laila! Thank you soo much for this video. I was telling my sister yesterday, the same thing had happened to me and I wasn’t sure how to proceed. This came right on time ❤️ (although I’m sorry our edges broke) I can’t wait to see your results! Hoping for the best ❤️

Gabrielle H.: Thank you so much for sharing your hair experience. My edges were destroyed about a year back and I am working on them with castor oil. I think you are right about giving products three years to work. Here's to success!

Bonny P.: I have naturally fine/thin hair with recent development of widows peaks at the front edge of each side. I recently started using this product (1 week ago) to increase volume, and I was very skeptical. Basically, in my opinion, any product that purports to add volume to your strands can only be a temporary fix. In other words, hair is dead; so you cannot add permanent thickness/volume to already existing strands (after washing the effect will disappear and require reapplication to see results). Well, upon first use of The Ordinary Hair Serum, my hair volume did increase, but I don't expect permanent results. And, since it isn't marketed for hair growth, I have no expectation in that regard; although it does contain some excellent ingredients, such as caffeine and biotin which aid in hair growth. So, it MAY be beneficial for growth, but again, that is not its purpose.

Marième Diop: I just finished the serum and for once I could see results. It’s expensive but worth it

G Jasmin: Thank you for your transparency, Laila. I hope the serum works well for you in growing your edges. BTW, Jacob is a cutie

Frema B: I haven't seen your channel in years and all of a sudden it popped up in my recommended. I am so happy to see you lol. Happy to be back and watching. xoxo

Ashley Torelli: I’m on my 4th bottle. I love it so much I have it on auto reorder. I use it in my nape and edges and it works wonders on maintaining my edges and soothing those irritated areas

Tiyya S: JJ is beyond adorable and giving me baby fever

Miss HannahL I V E: Braid wigs are the way forward. You’re edges still look fine not so bad

Musik Angel: Thanks for the video Laila. Sadly, I think we have all had a braiding experience like this. JJ is too cute!

Mmaolisa E: "Snatched and shipped back to Ghana" I didn't know The Ordinary had hair products. I'm curious to see your results. It was nice seeing your nephew, he's so cute

sparkletone1684: I’m sorry about your edges sis! Hope they recover soon! Your nephew is so adorable! It reminds me of when you would have Eli on when he was small.

Kali Kali: that's how my edges look my whole life.

Kelly Alleyne: Hey Laila, Loving your channel lady and your hair is gorgeous. Wondered how you were getting on with this, I started using at the same time as you... interested to know what you thought of it x

ForJoy TV: This is what my edges look like after postpartum shedding. Even as the hair grows it still looks so empty (less dense) in the first inch of the perimeter.

shasha Luve: These African women braiding hair extremely tight especially on the edges need to be STOPPED ‼

L: Your edges look full in comparison to mine I was going to just buy perfectil, but after watching this I will buy the ordinary product too.

Teeeee: You should try the enitan deep follicle treatment. It’s a miracle product!

mckealla Atkinson: I’ve been using the ordinary serum for edges too, it works slowly but it works

Silekiwe Audrey Mwenelupembe: Wow. Am going through the same and I've been contemplating on cutting my hair and start all over. I hope to learn from you how to fix my edges too.

Lolo Future: My edges have been on struggle bus forever. At this point I’m doing my own hair. I use The Ordinary hair serum- I felt like it made my scalp drier and hair fall out lol. Or at least hair dry up and definitely no growth

Remika Williams: Hey Laila Have you ever tried the virgin hair fertilizer? I hear great things about it

Bsims: Girl it was the buns for me... however I been doing wash n go’s and they have been looking better and better... you have to change up the parts or no parts at all. Lesson learned hunny lol

Michelle Watson Video: Girl. Would love to see the transformation on this. My edges been broke off for soo long. I have locs. Not really sure how to care for the edges and get them to grow healthy. If anybody can give me some pointers I will love you forever! ☺️

Chidimma Ugochukwu: I usually resort to using castor oil and less manipulative protective styles to grow back my edges

Princess Onkar: Your hair is so beautiful. I decided to texlax my own hair so that I can still have my volume but not so tight kinks. Video on my page.

frocrastination: You should try one side oil vs the other side ordinary hair serum.

Here for It: I’ve worn braids (with extensions) only four times in my life. The last time was because I was having surgery on my wrist and wouldn’t be able to comb my hair for a while. I went to a braid shop (Annette’s in Los Angeles) because my previous braider, who was excellent, moved away. Anyway . . . they braided my hair SOOO tightly! I complained but they insisted it was necessary. Normally I would have walked out, but I didn’t know anyone else who could braid my hair on such short notice as I was due for surgery in a day or two. I had more pain from the braids than from the operation. I took my pain meds mostly because of my darn scalp! Afterward, I could have sworn my edges were slightly compromised. That was 2012. My edges look normal now. I don’t think I will ever get braids again. If I must because of a similar situation, I will do my research before choosing a braider.

Alee88: I know this video is about your edges...but can we take a moment to admire you and your nephew's lashes honey they are gorgeous lol.

Renee Robinson: Laila, I am sorry about your edges that’s the last thing you need. I am going to be trying this product with you because the left side of my hair doesn’t grow at the same rate as my right. So I want to see what I can do to help it.

CuteNobi: I’m also on a journey to grow back my edges from being neglected. I plan on flat twisting my hair from ear to ear like a halo headband so that I can take it down and cleansing the front section regularly. Please post any videos if you try any new hairstyles to protect your edges.

Ashley Michelle: THE LOOK HE GAVE YOU WHEN YOU LOOKED AT HIM LMAO

malindarayallen: Loving the makeup free gorgeousness.

Lyrika 18: I jz discovered a small bald patch in my edges today I think it’s contributed to stress tho

Wendy Mlaba: I came here to talk about hair but l enjoyed seeing JJ the most. He is so adorable. I need to keep my priorities in check

mrsjaye parker-mosley: Yes!!!! Thanks I need to try this!! ❤️❤️❤️

W C: Immediately the baby came in I stopped listening, I was staring at him, he is so adorable, he got quality hair as well

Mary Nelson: Yup, my edges look the same as yours thanks to me over doing single braids when I know my scalp reacts to the braiding hair.

The first show ^-^: Hey, had the same but mine were worse( mine were bald) caused by postpartum. Managed to grow them back but took just over a year

Chemire M.: I love the way he looked back at you. Like low key scared but sweet.

ShaunieBNaturalista: JJ looks just like Eli with those soulful eyes. ❤️

Leo De Goddess: The stress and grief can cause hair loss too... Take care of yourself & God bless.

Tiyya S: Them hands on our sisters literally try to snatch our souls out ! I’m not getting my hair braided no mo

R3llUn!qu3: I have started using Raw Jamaican Black Castor oil it's quiet expensive you can only by the purest form online. I notice alot of baby hairs that weren't present along my hair line popping up after a few weeks. Good sign

NaturalSoul721: Jacob is the cutest!! Love his personality.

wylesiavm: Sis just get that castor oil, peppermint oil, and 100% vitamin oil mix popping. Also do Aloe Vera treatments every week. It’ll grow your hair back. Trust me. Oil your scalp every 3 days or however much you think you’ll need.

Kym J: I'm currently going through the same thing, my nape as well, and now I never want to get braids again cause... I don't have time for this lol.

Shannon Sunshine: Wooo these are my edges rn I cut off a lot of my hair to match and now I don’t think that was the best idea

Starroze aka Kawaiicutiebaby: He’s so cute and can’t wait to see your results

Mzlyz S: That smile ate the end was priceless!

Kyla Timmerman: as an ex employee in or training they put a lot of emphasis on the serum not causing hair growth. However what ever hair follicle it is placed on, it will cause it to be “appear thick”. good luck on your journey.

charity mutasa: Hi Laila, how has been the hair serum so far?

elinoy tessob: Hello Layla , can you update on this serum ? thank you !

April4th: Do you know that those rubber banded bonnets could also contribute to broken edges??? I found out last year. Now I tie scarves to bed and my edges are happy.

Vicky Barnett: I think with ANY braids, if you wear them up for WEEKS, it's going to take out the edges!

Here for It: I think your edges will soon come back to normal because you don’t put stress on your follicles on a consistent basis.

Wendy Because: Hi Laila. I'm recovering from hair loss due to anemia. My iron is all good now (thanks NHS!) but my edges and crown need extra help growing back in. I've just started using the serum myself. It causes a little build up/dryness on my scalp because I only wash my hair it once a week, but I'm persisting with it. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Kimyana Coleman: Don't feel bad im in the same boat mine is the front and the top of my crown it's trying to grow back girl I feel disappointed but im sure I know what did it

Tiyya S: I’ll buy this and test it as well once I have moved and settled in

Alerotune: Sorry you had to go through this. Is it possible it was partly due to post-partum shedding. I've had my edges go off twice recently after having babies. Trying to grow it back again now.

Jo: My edges are breaking of badly.. I did try everything but nothing seems to help... Did anyone have some tips/advise?

Phyllis Edmondson: Thank You for this video Laila Please tell me where did you purchase the meadowfoam oil and Bamboo powder

never too old to learn: Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing the progress.....

ymb6987: Let's get those edges back across the pond Laila!

Nubi: Great video thanks for sharing. JJ is a cutie pie

Tia Chanté: Jj just wanna contribute he's agreeing with you

rebelforaspell: LailaaaAAAAh, Sistren, so dey mash up your edges. You are so gentle with your hair. We LOVE you and we LOVE JayJayyy Adorable

Gwendolyn Carla: hi Laila, will you be doing an update on this ?

Bonita Applebum: Blackseed oil- 1-2 tblspns per day. Vitamin D Vitamin E Spurulina Tablets Turmeric Pills Ginger Pills Liquid Zinc Wild Hair Growth Oil Scalp Massager If you can’t get all of these, just start w/Blackseed oil and scalp massager. Enjoy !

DaNewBlack: Laila, I'm eyeing your cheese plant (monstera) please do a video on you you maintain it. The soil, the type of water, the pot size, how often you water it, where you position it...I need to be successful here, the leaves on my small one turned black, I fixed it, now its happening again.

Jackie Tucker: Your broken edges are my edges goal

Sokari-Sade Tomlinson: any update on this product? x

Mayala Mungeya Esperance: Going to bed with braid in a bun it's evil you will experience alot of breakage

bebeconnection: JJ is adorable

Yvette Cousin: I always tell them not to braid my edges

Cede D: I def need something to help my edges.

Kali Kali: omg those braids were tight. I would not have edges period if I had those braids.

Mini: Oh hell nawww. They'd have to return my edges But you're lucky, it could have been worse. I've seen people hair never grow back!!!!

Tt A: My edges broke off too from faux locks. I plan on not doing any pony tail style this year and I’m going to wear half wigs ‍♀️

Raquel Rich: Tension from braids being to tight thank goodness it wasn't worse...it will grow back, just need to leave the braids alone

pisces031372aj: The look he gave you was like.... What? So cute

O O: Is anyone trying this? I am, I have been using it for a month now and it's working!

Crystal B: Your nephew is adorable

Just K: Onion juice is smelly but works over months...

Jackie: OMG! Your nephew is too cute!!

Sharon Stone: My hair is thinning out I don’t know if it’s from being stressed all of 2020 or what!? This year I’m leaving my hair alone! I’m not even laying my edges down and I stopped using combs

Mayala Mungeya Esperance: Laila your broken edges are fine to me

Debbie Katz: What was the name of the product for your edges? Your nephew is adorable

Fresh: I’m going through this right now I have alopecia and psoriasis. I made the mistake of putting in braids my hair jus can’t take those hair styles any more.

MsPenut01: msm power really helped my damn edges. it broke off just before Xmas koz I was over using my headbands. Got it from Holland and Barrett and I drunk it and used it in my deep conditioner. I've seen it has actually helped me. castor oil did nothing for me ever.
