My updated wash and go routine using my favorite banding method! This is how I stretch my shrunken, short natural hair into a voluminous, stretched wash and go. I'm also using my homemade flaxseed gel to set the curls, along with a new leave-in and moisturizing routine! I've really been loving my wash and gos lately, so I hope you give it a try, and I hope it helps! XO, Nap

I see well, I just don't know all right guys: I've already shampoo, detangled and deep conditioned now, I'm going to rinse my conditioner out and style my wash and go so working one side at a time and one twist at a time I unravel the twists and Rinse out all of that deep conditioner, I also use this time to do any last-minute detangling, if needed, when all that deep conditioner is out of the hair and off the scalp, I'm going to seal the moisture in so my hair stays nice and soft, so spray In a section with pure aloe vera juice, this will all balance the pH and close the hairs cuticle. I'M then the lock that moisture in with my homemade hair and body oil. All recipes of course, will be linked below now. I work that into my hair from ends to roots making sure that every strand is coated so usually when I'm washing my hair to style it in a stretch style like a twist out I'll rinse through the oil out to get rid of any greasy residue. Like I showed you in my most recent wash day, video, however, when I'm prepping my hair for a washing go, I leave all of that oil in, because when my hair is and it's curly see, it tends to need more moisture and more support because it gets Dry, much faster and now I'll add my leave-in. I add this over the oil to help lock in that moisture again, and it also makes my hair super soft, adding a creamy, leavin or styling cream before adding your hair gel is really important and making sure your hair doesn't dry out. So I'm really working that leaving into my hair making sure every strand is coated. After all, the hair is nice and soft, it's time to define your hair texture, so I will of course, be using my homemade flaxseed gel for this, which I just updated. The recipe for and I'll link it below and I'm really generous, with the amount that I use working it in from ends to roots. My goal is to make sure that every strand is coated and defined. So I actually do add a lot of the stuff to my hair, but just make sure you work it in well, if you don't work this gel into your hair and just allow it to sit on top, that's when you're going to start to see white flakes Or white cast over your hair now, because of the friction from you working that gel into your hair, you might start to see a little bit of frizz as it starts to dry. So if that happens, just dip the section of hair under the water for a quick second to get it wet again. That will help reduce the frizz and further define your hair texture and one really important tip for getting the best texture out of your washing. Go. Always make sure your hair is soaking wet when applying the hair gel. That will give you the most defined and frizz free results. Okay, so now all the gel is worked in and my curls are nice and defined, smooth and shiny time to grab another twist and repeat, unravel the twist rinse out. All of that deep conditioner on your hair and scalp balance, the hairs pH and close the hairs. Cuticle by spraying, a section with pure aloe vera juice seal that moisture in with an oil I'm using my homemade hair and body oil working it in from enterance and then seal the moisture in a third time and soften the hair, with a creamy, leave-in or styling Cream to prep it for your gel, applying my homemade flaxseed hair, gel generously from enca roots, using downward strokes to really work the product in and define each curl, and we want our hair to be soaking wet for the best definition and results. So if you need to gently dip your hair under the water to get it wet again and that's it perfectly defined curls now I actually like to do the twist in the front last on washing goes so I can style the front left. So I'm going to actually move on to the other side, repeating that same process stop is now after styling the front sections I like to add just a little bit more gel to my edges, smooth them back and keep them nice and neat, and that's it. My hair is hydrated, soft and well designed now at this point you can choose to air dry, but I'm actually going to set under my hooded dryer to speed the process up. I gently squeeze the excess water out with an old t-shirt and fit under the cool air of my hooded dryer for about 30 minutes after 30 minutes. My hair is completely tried and completely shrunken, so you can stop here if you like, just add a little bit of cream to break up that gel cast. But I'm going to go ahead and add my length back by using the banding method to stretch out my curls. This is a really simple process. All you need is some water in a spray bottle, a styling cream and some stretchy headbands or ribbon ties working. One side at a time, I'm grabbing a large section in the front being careful not to disturb my natural curl pattern. So I don't create frizz and clipping the rest of the hair out of the way rehydrate the hair with a spritz of water. So it will be pliable and able to stretch grabbing a small amount of styling cream, I'm using my homemade mango and couple'a su butter cream, which of course is going to be linked in the description box you're going to gently squeeze that into your kernel. So you don't mess up the pattern too much. This will help break that gel cast, allowing your hair to be reshaped and it's going to soften your hair and making sure that section is nice and smooth we're going to start banding. It so wrap the stretchy ribbon. Headband around the section near the roots, not too tight, so you don't cause breakage, then you're going to gently, wrap it down the length of the hair to stretch it out notice how I gently pull the curls at the bottom ever now and then to make sure It doesn't revert too much so that I can get the most length out of it now when you're wrapping that headband around the section, don't do it too tight, it doesn't need to be tight to be effective. You don't want to harm your hair by making this too snug and I'll usually stop about an inch or two before I hit the bottom. I really like my natural curl pattern to still show at the ends of my section after I stretch it out all right. So the first band is done: release the hair and grab another large section. I always make three large bands on each side. That gives me a nice natural curl pattern when I take them out. Okay, so spray the section with water gently squeeze in your favorite creamy styling butter and ban the section down from roots to ends pulling out those curls at the bottom every now and then to get the most length and I'm going to make sure that I'm banding. My hair gently and not too tight and lastly, I like to leave a little bit of curl at the bottom, now repeat on that last section on that first side, if you're wondering where I'm getting these long ribbon, headbands that I'm using to band. Of course, I make them myself and I'll put a link below in the description box, they're really inexpensive and easy to make alright. So the first size done just repeat on the other side and when you're done you'll have a total of six banded sections all over your head and no, it is not the coolest look for bedtime, but hey it works. So I tied on a satin head scarf and head to bed and don't worry. This is completely comfortable to sleep on, so you won't be losing any sleep at night, so it's the next morning time to take out the band's. This is my favorite part, of course, just take those bands off gently, so you don't accidentally pull your hair or create knots. Just take your time with this, so all the bands are out just give your hair a shake to loosen up those sections. I'M grabbing some argan oil for my hand, so I don't create frizz and I'm just going to fluff out my hair and style it. So, as you can see, my natural texture is definitely stretched, but it still looks natural because the ends of my hair are still curly. How the ends of your hair style can really make or break a look. So I'm just fluffing it out and clearly loving the results and here's a little tip if you ever have any issues getting your hair to come together in the back just pinch, the back of your hair together and clip it in place for a bit to help Set it this works really well, if your hair isn't cooperating, I don't need it today. My hair is behaving so I'm going to take it out, but just an FYI and a good tips later so here's my hair after it's been fluffed such a huge difference from how it looks just straight out of the hairdryer huh banding really helps you long get Your hair and give it back some shape, so this is just my normal stretched wash and go. Look in the next video I'm going to show you how I give this lots of volume and attitude creating the look of faux bangs and all that good stuff. So look out for that video next, but yeah. I hope you guys enjoyed my updated washing glow routine. Using the banding technique to stretch doesn't allows me about four to five days before I'll need to wash it again to avoid knots and dryness. Alright guys. I really hope that this helped. I hope you give it a try and I'll see you in the next one. Oh

VJ: BEAUTIFUL! A nice, genuine hair tutorial. The YouTube natural hair community is starting to get filled with a bunch sponsored, scripted videos and this was just refreshing to see. You never disappoint.

Krystle Grayson: In my (almost) 3 years of being natural, I've NEVER tried a wash & go. Just never had the confidence or understood the technique. But after watching this, I think I can do it! Thanks for the simple & easy-to-understand technique. I've got some confidence!! :)

E. Russell: Thank you for your YouTube Page! I enjoy watching your many videos because: 1. You don't waste 10 minutes explaining what you're getting ready to do (yawn) 2. You are very clear what you're talking about. Succinct steps, great descriptions! 3. You use simple, (mostly) homemade products, and try to make it easy for viewers to understand and feel confident! Keep up the amazing work!

*NinaBina5*: I love you so much, thank you thank youuuuu. You're the reason why I went natural like 5 years ago and you're the reason why I actually like my texture (which is almost identical to yours) and kind of know how to deal with it. If I hadn't found you and other naturals with type 4 hair, I'd probably be devasted about the fact that I'm not type 3 and end up wanting a texturizer. I just can't get over how much you've helped me actually love my hair, so just thank you (again) haha.

Joy: Yesssssss! I was waiting for this video! This wash and go gives me so much life! Your hair looks good and healthy!

You are truly a natural hair Super star. I' ve been on the fence about making Vids myself about my aspirations such as becoming a RN, being in the most healthiest state with my mind, body and spirit, and most Importantly growing long, thick hair to waistlength. I have so many questions. I would love to implement your knowledge about all the above in my life. How do I start?

Zoe Rae: LOVE!! This is my New Favorite! ❤️❤️ (now that I have hair to style) I love wearing my natural curl pattern but the shrinkage is Real! This helps so much! ☺️

Starring Stormy: Your hair never stops growing!!! It comes back longer, thicker, curlier... on defense mode lol Lovedddd it! -Storm

Evie Harter: Hi Whitney! I love your channel and your IG page! You have been helping me with me natural hair journey for 3 years now! I just tried the mane and tail leave it and it works great. My question for you is how do you maintain this style? You mentioned that you can wear this style for up to 4 days. Do you band it every night or pineapple it? Thank you for your help and support! You are amazing!

Dee Lite: LOVE it! Thanks for sharing your pearls of wisdom. I love that you're going back to using your own DIY products for the most part and that you're just doing YOU again! :)

Sheena Fulmore: I love using the banding method to maintain and stretch my twist outs during the week. I typically band the sections a little looser than you have done, so my twist out does not stretch too much but just enough. I also did the banding method to stretch my very first wash and go last year. Haven't tried a wash n go since, but seeing this video has made me want to try again.

xbeautyy: It blows my mind how you don’t even shingle and get amazing definition! Ain’t nobody got time for that. Beautiful hair and I love this technique

Investing With Colleen: I love stretching my hair with the banding method better then using heat! Loved the video

Kelora Robinson: I couldn't sleep and you bless my life with a wash and go that I desperately need. Naptural, you keep giving me life

Nayla Ivelisse: love how after experimenting for a while you found what works best for you. simple basics. this technique is flawless and your hair looks so healthy. I wonder how long you could wear the non stretched version before re touching?

BeeRavie: omg i can tell how healthy your hair is again!!! im so happy.... i remember seeing it before you eliminated the coconut oil and thinking something just isnt right. glad you got it back on track. also, when you do the sections in the shower are you trying to make sure the complete sections arent getting wet? or are you just letting them get wet and it doesnt affect the results?

Fanny Martins: Before my big chop, i use to do the same! i love this method! Thanks for sharing!

Ashley Sauthere: Hi Nap :) and thank you for another great video. About your flaxseed gel, I tried it last week, but I was wondering how to store it and how long can I keep it? I used it again this week and noticed a very bad smell from my small jar, so I threw it away unfortunately. So let me know what you think! Ashley (from Canada). Always great to hear you. xoxox

Joy & Lily: You are such a lifesaver! Totally gonna try this. Been trying to figure out how to wash n go for ages. My hair is way to thick/low porosity to dry in one day. Also thanks for showing how you get your curls to clump!

Jacky!: It just became my birthday an hour ago. I just wanted to do something quick & simple with my hair. Thank you Whitney!

amry: Girl: i cannot thank u enough for your new aloe gel - its freakin magical!! Havent used it in years, now its all i style my hair with. Its amaaazing!!

tesh: I tried this 2 days ago, and it came out very well, every time i try a wash and go it never ends well but i LOVED how this one turned out. My next step is to figure out how to preserve it

Charis TheMama: so glad you made this video. loved how my flaxseed gel i made came out following your recipe, but was struggling with the stretching portion.

Black Nessa: I don't if you'll ever see this @Naptural85 even though we don't have the same hair texture you are the first person who taught me to love my hair first person who encouraged me to enjoy the scalp of hair that is coming through. Many years later my hair is just starting to define its curls I'm seeing it's natural state all I can say thank you lovely and my your hair is going from strength to strength your giving me the hope and beliefs that hard work pays off xxx

Faith Robinson: Can this girl get a million subscribers already! She's so underrated!

Joanne Guiste - MumNatural: your hair is just so darn beautiful .. that pregnancy glow though, love it

EllieGurrrrl: Thanks for this. We have the exact curl pattern and my recent wash and go was a fail. I’m gonna try your steps.

Love Thyself: love love love your hair. i love flaxseed gel for twist outs thanks for showing how to use it for wash n gos, great stretching technique as well. you are the queen of natural hair lol keep up the great work we appreciate it

Tiffanye Davenport: @Naptural85 - I haven't tried a wash and go since my hair was much shorter because the drying time just kills me, but I saw the way you use the bands in a previous video, and I have been using them to preserve my twist outs much longer! The only change I make is that I put a little bit of moisturizing hold product like Camille Rose Almond Jai Twisting Butter at the ends and put a perm rod on them to make the ends stay curly. One day I'll be patient enough to do a wash and go again!

Jackie Johnson: I love your hair and it's growing back so fast! I'm going to have to try the new flaxseed recipe. But, in the meantime, I have a question for you or anyone who has an answer: how do I get my roots to not be so puffy? No matter what I do(wash n go, twist out, etc), they're always puffy. Any suggestions??

Nicole Humprhey: I tried your black soap shampoo and I AM IN LOVE! I didn't think my wash and go could get any better. I got some many compliments and people wanted to know what I did. I can't wait to make your flaxseed gel.

KnottyKoolGal: I'm loving the grey sprinkled in your hair. It looks really good and its nice to see that your not dying it.

Curvy Curly Girls: Wow your hair stretched so much!! Natural hair is so diverse and so beautiful! I just love being natural lol and I loved this video!! ❤️❤️

itsjustTIER: Yassss hair! I literally just started doing wash-n-go's and trying the banding method (which I wasn't the biggest fan of at first lol) but I might try your way to see if it turns out better! Thanks Whit!

Liz For A Day: OMG, Your hair is so beautiful. I'm going to try this technique. Thanks for the tips.

tweankle123: Just gorgeous.....I love how you simplify things, for people who struggle like me.....lol

JaiProdz: Looks so pretty! I love these videos x

MzKinkyCurl: Great video, Whitney! I NEVER do wash n go's! Maybe it's time to experiment with them!!! Thanks for inspiring!

successhomebiz: Wow, I`ve tried everything to stretch my fresh shampooed hair. That includes pulling each twist and pinning it down with tons of bobby pins and or clips. Impossible to sleep on, all that metal and plastic. Thank you, thank you for sharing "the banding method'.

Beautii84: Absolutely love this video. Extremely informative!!!

Cierra F.: I followed the stretched Wash and Go and the Flaxseed Gel videos to the T and got the BEST WnG I've ever done in my life! I'm SOOO amazed by how pretty my hair looks! Thanks Question: My curls will NOT clump in the front, and always looks frizzy (though the look the best ever at this moment) but my tops, sides and back are super defined and clump well. How do I fix this?

Alexis R: New Subscriber. Love your videos. I'm still struggling to style my type 4 hair and your video's are very detailed. Thank you!

tahira1: I'm thrilled to see your hair is thriving again and looking very beautiful.

Merisha Baldwin: Whitney, thank you for being so freakin' AWESOME! A friend shared you with me a couple of years ago and I have been hooked ever since...I'm my head we're friends who just haven't met yet . Lol! Two quick questions, do you re-band every night? What do you do to keep your hair moisturized for 4-5 days?

Alicia Brillante: Beautiful and it looks so easy!

Yogeek: Wow! Your hair is beautiful and healthy. Your hair loves the flaxseed.

Alex Lugo: Beautiful! I used your flaxseed recipe and it works out perfect. Im going to try this method, wish me luck!

meikoblock: the thing ive come to realize is that I need completely different products when I wear my hair straight and when I wear my hair curly. And I am still in the process trying to figure out what works best for my hair curly. I like your method of creating your own products. That way you dont run the risk of companies changing the product formulation on you (cough cough Shea Moisture).

Pure Estrogen: I've been natural for years and have never tried banding. I think i'll give it a try soon. Thanks for sharing.

Xaiver Campbell: amazingggggg those curls, that gel is brilliant Whitney!! omg can't wait for the next video. for reals love how your grays are coming in so gracefully

buttrpecan9: a huge difference in length with this technique. great idea. actually I like both the shrunken and the stretched out look. I usually have a difficult time with the top middle and I use my hand to grip it and hold onto for a lil bit, never once thought to use a clip lol!!!! Thank you!!!

Ashley B!: Your hair is so perfectly define, even without the gel. Im jealous!!!

Ms. CeeBaby : This was super helpful ! Shrinkage is my biggest problem with my natural hair but this really helped !

Mari Veronica: I think we need to retire the "wash and go" and give it a new name. Anyone feel me? There is just too many steps for it to be given this name for us with highly dense hair

Tania Rich: I tried this wash n go (minus some ingredients that I didn't have) and I got some decent results! :) Thank you for your helpful video. You suggested to use a cream to use to break up the gel or to help with the stretching process. What is a specific cream that you would suggest?

Gloria Harrison: Beautiful, thanks for the realistic styling tips.  I think I do this

Shasy's Way: Whitney, you need to have your own Napturals product line. You have such awesome DIY products I'm surprised a company hasn't offered you your own line already. Thanks for the video.

DeMauri Nycole Mumphrey: good to see you back, momma. After all that mess, we were/still are worried about you. keep up that good fight! you were given this platform for a reason. At times, it will be testy, however, if you weren't able to pass those tests, He wouldn't have put you through it. I've watched you for too long, and you've snatched my edges way too much for you to get down and out, now. Chin up, Whit. we love ya!

Farhiya Jaay: I literally sat down the whole day to watch your videos !!! I love everything you do with your hair ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ had to subscribe!!!!!

cuzisaysook: Thanks for the new video. I am definitely trying your hair & body recipe, as well as the stretch method. Now I see why I still have a TWA the next morning.

Tré: Each time I am looking for an example on how to manage my natural mane, I end up here. Thanks for being om of the gospels of natural hair.

Ashley Williams: Am I the only one who wants Whit to revisit mini twists before the new baby

alison hilaire: I like the streched AND the unstretched results : -) Your hair is SUPER SHINY it's insane!!! I've been super lazy with my styling lately. I wash, condition, moisturize and...put a headscarf lol. I wish someone skilled like you could do my hair lol!

Great gowns, beautiful gowns.: Hi!☺ What do you do for keeping moisture for your wash and gos between wash days? Also do you pineapple this style at night, put the 6 twist back in, or do the ponytail method where you put your hair up in scrunchies under your scarf? Sorry if you've already covered those questions. If you did can you please give the titles of those videos? Thank you!☺

Dash Anna: Thank you! This method looks super easy my hair curls up tight like that when i moisture it and i was looking for something to Stretch it out like this !sucess this helped alot

ItsKay1a: Did you trim/shape your hair yourself or did you have it professionally done? It looks really good! I love that shape.

She-Earl: Remember when Whit only used to do stretched styles like twist outs? I like these more cause I love seeing her curl pattern

Etling Galeano: you are amazing, what a great natural way to make your curls longer, I am trying it right now!! thank you!!

x0Mickey0x: I just did a wash n go and banded my hair overnight to stretch on Saturday (I learned from the best which is you Whitney )

Hippie HedgeWitch: i love love love the white hairs----they look soooooooo good on you especially with this beautifully defined and stretched wash n go!!

Naomi Adams: Oh my god! Yaaaaaaay! You just made my day with this video! Just changed wash and go hair routine starting this tonight!
