Um, hello, my soul, mates and welcome back to the channel guys. Today we are going to be talking about the big elephant in the room. I should just say the big hair in the room. We'Re talking everything here. You guys have a lot of questions and i have a lot of answers so today we're going to get into all of that. I'M still a little stuffy so bare with me with that. So for today's topic and today's video we are talking about specifically treating hair. So i'll be running through hair treatments with you guys and even if you don't have curly, hair or hair like mine, you can still learn so much and apply a lot of this to your hair as well, because we're talking here in a general sense, but we're Also going to get into specifics, obviously of my hair and women with hair like mine, i'm going to get comfortable because, oh also, these pants or these shorts, i have them in a lighter green. I posted on my instagram and you guys kept asking me. Well, i don't know if you can see it, but you guys kept asking me about these shorts and where i had got them, i got them from zara. I got two colors um, but they had like a bunch of different bright shades, so they fit really comfortably and i just yeah i love them already so y'all know i have my notebook because i just i can get lost when speaking um. I want to keep this quick, because i have videos at the end of this that i'm going to include kind of going through the process of how exactly i treat my hair and my whole wash process. So the first topic of conversation is going to be um. Hair acceptance, i have to start there while we're talking about hair, especially when we're talking about natural hair. Okay, having your hair natural is not for the week having your hair natural is just not for the week you have to be mentally strong. It takes a lot of self love, but, most importantly, self acceptance. So when watching videos on natural hair, natural hair recommendations stuff, like that, you really want to be mindful that your hair and the person who is giving you this advice, their hair, is completely different. So, for example, me my sister, we have the same parents, we have very similar hair, but her products could never work. For me, my products could not work for her. Our texture is still different. Our hair is still very different, so i give her a lot of advice, but she has to go through a stage of learning her own hair care needs and adjusting her products according to her specific hair. So when it comes to product recommendations, i'm not big on that, because i feel like that's a journey that only you can take with your own hair. But i'm gon na point you in a direction or give you um general information and general recommendations that i feel could benefit anybody with any hair texture because we're going to address specifically what the hair needs to be strong and healthy and vibrant, and all of that. So what does that does um hair acceptance? Look like it's kind of you not forcing anything that is not natural to your hair, so my hair is a little more curly. My sister's hair is a little bit more coily. I hope i'm getting the terms right. I could be wrong, but her hair texture is just more coarse than mine and i remember when she first started her natural hair journey. She was kind of going through a struggle. She was like. Well, it's not doing what it's supposed to be doing and i was like well because my hair journey was completely different. I didn't have anyone to kind of look up to when i started. I started this straight out of high school. This was like 2008 or 9. um. No one was doing natural hair. At the time i just kind of decided. I was going to stop conforming to um societies. You know standards of beauty and i was just gon na be myself right, so i wasn't expecting my hair to do anything. I was just allowing it to do what it does naturally, and so i kind of had to go back and then have a conversation with her when it's like. I know you think your hair is supposed to look like mine, but i need you to stop thinking that and i need you to allow your hair to do what your hair is going to do. Naturally, that's what being natural is it's not forcing curls on your hair? It'S not forcing an afro, it's not forcing anything at all, anything that is forced. That'S not what the process is now, that's not to say that you cannot do things to um enhance a certain. Look that you like right. Your preference, if you prefer your hair, to look a certain way, yeah, there's ways in which we can manipulate our hair to appear that way, and that's just how you're styling your natural hair, but if you're frustrated that your hair naturally isn't doing something. It'S two things. It'S either your hair is in need of something that it's not receiving, and so therefore it's not doing it either needs moisture or needs something to strengthen it in order for it to, like, you know, be full and like curly or whatever straw yourself um, so how You avoid those issues is give your hair what it needs, so it can do what it's capable of doing. So you want your hair at its strongest. You want to make sure you're moisturizing your hair, that it's not dry and in need of anything, and then your hair will just do what it does naturally and whatever that may be. You have to come to a stage of accepting that and just kind of learning to love your own hair, where it's at so don't force your hair to meet you where your standards are or where your expectations are. Instead, try to meet your hair, where it's at and learn to love it and manage it and deal with it in that stage, um that that's gon na keep you from like wanting to hide it, because it's not doing what it. What you want it to do. A lot of women get frustrated, and you know like oh, this is why i'm just gon na braid it or this is why i just wear a wig over it, because it's just like it's not doing what i wanted to do, but it's like, if you don't Take the time to learn and accept and love your hair you're, never gon na get out of that stage. You'Re always going to have to cover your hair up so glad. We got that out of the way that is a very um important conversation to have, and i don't think a lot of people have it yeah. So if you take anything from that, that was for you uh. Let'S see what i have here next, okay! So now we're gon na go into specifically. How do i keep my hair, strong um that is through protein treatment, and this can apply to anyone with any hair texture? Okay, having strong, healthy hair is very important, no matter what you're doing to your hair, whether you're braiding it or you're, putting it underneath something or you're, strengthening it or you're, just letting it be natural. Your hair needs to be strong in order for it to just do what it's supposed to do right, just be healthy. So what is protein? Protein is actually what our hair is made of it's made of protein. Now, when you do a protein treatment, what that does? Is it kind of coats, your hair, in a protective protein like shell? I guess i want to say or layer it just kind of layers over each strand kind of giving it that, like protection, that it needs so protein treatments are going to save you if you're, that person that you've damaged your hair either through dyeing it right. You'Ve bleached your hair, you stripped your hair, your ponytails are too tight, you're losing hair or um. You know you have heat damage and your hair is not curling the same. It'S doing different things, it's just not it's not as bouncy or your hair is not as full as you need it to be. That means your hair is in need of strengthening and through protein. It'S not. It doesn't have that natural layer of protein right, but when you do a protein treatment it gives it um that layer that it's missing, so it coats the hair and protein and then that feeds the hair and strengthens it. And then your hair kind of bounces. Back now, protein treatments are something you do not want to play with they're very strong, and you shouldn't be doing them too often. Every couple of months is good. Your hair will kind of tell you when it needs it again, um, but i would say every couple of months: for example, i do it every six months, sometimes four months, when i'm like dying my hair. If i try to not do it more often than six months now, there are softer treatments, protein treatments that you guys can do at home, using eggs and mayo olive oil, creating your own mixture, but i personally like to use um the apogee protein treatment. I'M gon na post it so you guys know what i'm talking about and you guys are going to get to see exactly how i use it towards later on in this video now the need to know about protein, so you just put a coat of protein over Your hair, your hair, is now almost kinky and coarse, because that's what strong hair does right do not panic, because a lot of people panic, they're like oh, my god, my hair is just like so like that just means you need to moisture your hair. Your hair needs moisture immediately after protein treatments. You cannot do a protein treatment and not do a deep conditioning treatment following, and i mean right after, like immediately out of the shower yeah, you have to condition your hair right after you have to kind of bring in that moisture and soften it up after it's Just had a treatment to make it really really strong. You need to soften your hair again, so you need to give it that love give it that moisture. So i have a couple of product recommendations for you guys as well to be able to do that. Um now deep conditioning treatments, i do it more often, so that's something i'll, probably do either monthly or every two months three months, if i'm really lazy but either way, if i'm not doing a deep conditioning treatment, they're still like the what's that brand, i'm gon na Put it up here, but i'm gon na show it to you guys as well. It'S like a three minute, moisture treatment that i do when i don't have the time to like sit and do a whole deep conditioning session and those really help too so and actually pair those two together when i do protein treatments so right now, i had actually Just did a protein treatment a couple of days ago, so my hair is behaving a little bit differently. So after you treat your hair, your hair is going to be behaving different. It takes a little time for your hair to kind of adjust to. Like all of you know, all of these things it's like strengthening and it's conditions, your hair's, probably curlier than ever. Sometimes it's not as fluff. Sometimes it's too much fluff, because your hair is too like coarse through the protein, so just give it some time. It'S okay! It'S okay, like just allow your hair to do what it's going to do, make sure you're just supporting it if you're giving it what it means then fall back kind of like children, right you're, raising them you're, giving them if you're feeding your baby and your you Change this diaper you've done everything possible. It'S okay, put it down and walk away. That'S what i'm telling you about your hair. If you've, given it everything it needs right, it doesn't need anything walk away from it. Leave it alone, it's going to do what it's going to do. You can't control it. If you think you could control it, you're going to get frustrated, let it be okay. So now i'm going to take you guys actually through the process of how i treat my hair, what products i use and what that process even looks like, as you guys can see. It is not a pretty one. My hair needs a lot of love, but hey we're going to get into that. First. You want to start off by if your hair is up, you want to take it out and you want to really take your time to stretch out your hair. If you have curly hair like me, it's essential for you to stretch out all of your hair in every single strand so that your hair can evenly be coated with the protein treatment. So take your time and stretch your hair out. As you can see, my hair is fully stretched and ready to receive treatment. My go-to protein treatment is this apogee two-step protein treatment. This product is my holy grail. I use a dropper to help distribute the product, and i put as much as i think my hair will need. It goes a long way so start little and work your way up. If you need more, this dropper really helps get the product into my scalp and distribute it evenly. I don't recommend a spray bottle, because this product is very sticky. The next product i use is the emergency deep conditioning treatment. I use the avocado one because it is my favorite. They also have a coconut one when they don't have this one. I get the coconut, but this avocado one is just my favorite. Another must-have product is the aussie moisture. It'S like a miracle, three-minute miracle, moisture, deep conditioning treatment. Sorry, let me flip this. It'S so easy to use it's the product that i use in between deep conditioning treatments. It'S like that really quick treatment. You need, if you don't have time to go through the whole process. This is a great add-on. All right guys, we're gon na go into it get started. You want to start with your scalp and work that product into your scalp. First, then, you want to work. Your way down and into the rest of the hair, i always start with the back of my head, because this product tends to drip. So you want to work your way from the back to the front so that the product is not dripping. This is not a product you want to get in your eyes, so be very careful, and this product tends to just be really sticky and it's really strong. Once you got your scalp, you just want to go ahead and distribute the product throughout your hair. You can use your hands to help, get the product in or work the product in. You do not want to brush your hair with this product. Do not use a brush or a comb with this. Just use your hands and next we're going to apply heat to help seal the protein treatment to your hair. I have the blow dryer on medium heat, even though you see a little bit of smoke, don't be alarmed it's just because i'm doing it on the protein treatment, that's where some of the smoke is coming from, but i do have a professional blow dryer. So i could also be my blow. Dryer is very, very strong, but i have it on medium heat or warm, and you want to make sure that you dry all of the products you want to do this until your hair is crunchy. Now you do not have to use a blow dryer, you could simply wait it out after i blow dried it. I waited a little bit just to make sure that the product was really dry and sealed. You'Re gon na feel your hair really really crunchy and really really coarse. Let'S wash this off, i use tresemme rich, moisture, shampoo and conditioner. I'Ve been using these two products for a while. For me, they work now if you are using something that works best or better. For your hair then feel free to substitute the products i'm using to the products you already use, i'm a huge believer. If it's not broken, don't fix it, i'm just getting my hair, wet and just kind of rinsing off some of that protein treatment. We have rinsed some of the products off of our hair, and now we are going to shampoo after a protein treatment. You really want to make sure that you cleanse your hair really really well. A protein treatment is not something you want to. Let sit in the hair so make sure that you really work that product out of your scalp and off of your hair. When it comes to shampooing your hair, you want to keep the focus on the scalp and then work your way down throughout the rest of your hair. Shampoo can really dry curly hair or you can try any type of hair so making sure that you keep the focus on the scalp where you have products built up and oil builds up shy. Shampooing the hair twice is something you really want to do. After a protein treatment to make sure that you get off all of the product from your hair now, if you feel like that might be a little bit too much for your hair to handle, this is the time that you can substitute it for a co-wash or A much more gentle shampoo option again we are keeping the focus on the scalp and allowing the soap to just work its way throughout the rest of our hair. After shampooing, your hair, your hair is going to feel rough, but don't worry, we're gon na fix it with some moisture. I always love to start with a regular conditioner. First, i'm gon na work this product into my hair and use my fingers to separate my hair. Before i go in with a brush to detangle it. You want to finger um kind of detangle, your hair, but just separating it and splitting it and then working the product in once i've coated all of my hair in conditioner. I go in with a brush to untangle my hair. Now you can use a comb or you could use whatever brush. You prefer to detangle your hair. For me, i like to use a wide brush. I feel like the bristles are also very soft on my hair and i like to start with the ends of my hair and work. The conditioner up. This causes less breakage on natural hair or tangled hair. You always want to start with the ends and work. Your way up to the base or the root of your hair um shy once i've rinsed off the conditioner, i'm going to start to prep my hair for the conditioning treatment i like to start off with the aussie three minute, moisture conditioning treatment. I leave this on my hair. Let it sit on my hair for three minutes. While i trim the ends of my hair, this is going to prep your hair for deep conditioning treatment. You just want to trim the ends and the reason why you want to do this is so that your hair can really take the protein treatment. You want to cut off those dead follicles and your hair is going to absorb all of the moisture from the deep conditioning treatment, i've trimmed my ends, and now i'm going to rinse off the three-minute moisture treatment. You always want to make sure you trim your ends before doing any type of deep conditioning treatment or conditioning treatment in general. That way, your hair can really absorb the product. You want to make sure your ends are nice and trimmed, and you cut off any dead hair now we're finally going to get into our last step, which is our deep conditioning treatment. I love this avocado treatment. It is my absolute favorite and it smells amazing. This is a product that you want to be generous with now. I know i always say a little bit goes a long way, but when it comes to deep conditioning treatment, it's never too much. You really want to make sure that you work this product into your hair, so take your time and make sure that all of your hair is coated in this treatment. Remember i told you how important it is to deep condition your hair after a protein treatment. This is the most important step make sure you never skip this step after a protein treatment and for the health of curly hair. You want to make sure your deep conditioning. It is probably one of the biggest treatment the most important treatment. Even if you skip protein and do deep conditioning treatment, your hair is going to be healthy. This product feels very minty. It feels very good. It feels very cooling making sure i get the back of my hair and again working that product down. Now, i'm going to put my hair up in a little bun in a ponytail and i'm going to sit in this treatment for a couple of hours. Do not forget to get your edges and your baby hairs. No hair can be left out. I'M going to go ahead and put this hair up and wrap it in a plastic cap. This green product does tend to get a little messy, so you do want to wrap your hair up, especially if you plan on sitting on this treatment for the day, i'm going to sit in this for a couple hours. This is my second big chop and I have sooo much more confidence than I did when I first did it! I didn’t accept myself at all. Like I hated my hair. Now this time around I love it and I embrace my texture and wear it out all day everyday !

Journeythrough3: I’ve been natural years, and how you “bottomed lined” things…I’m here for it. All of these rules and products, come on…use what works for your hair and that comes through trial and error. The point I took away from this video is when you talked about excepting your hair doing what it wants to do naturally. A proud Soulmate!

Keke: I absolutely love how thorough you were explaining and the fact that I am a natural girl have been for 7 years now Your hair is gorgeous and I love how you embrace it. Excited for what’s to come

Angela Moore: I truly loved the hair acceptance part that you started with….because it seems like we have to say…everyone’s hair texture is different. And what works for one persons hair routine may not work for another….especially hair products. Everything mentioned was spot on. This video was so well done Elli!!! I’d love to see the drying process of your hair. Do you use a diffuser or do you let your hair air dry?

Jamie Moore: Thank you Elli for this video. One thing that struck me was the acceptance of my natural hair journey at an older age. It’s been four years and I’m still getting use to it, lol! But I’m loving my journey now. And you’re right about people in the same family with different textures! Enjoyed this video so much! I love your hair by the way.

Thanks Ellie❤️

Victoria Marr: Hello Elli! I'm natural but my hair hasn't been growing out. I usually wear a ponytail. What should/could I start doing to get it to start growing? My natural hair is soft but can get dry and a lil kinky. This was a great video ❤

helene on the go: Loved this. I just started using Aphogee protein, shampoo and moisturizer and my hair felt so good. My hair felt so soft as compared to other products I have used. Yvette Whitaker: Hello Elli. I really enjoyed this video. It was very informative and helpful. I agree with you about hair acceptance, it is very important. My hair stylist has been using ApHogee on my hair for years. It does make your hair very brittle, but like you said after the deep conditioner it becomes really healthy. I am excited for your next video. Have fun, stay safe and stay Blessed.

LP: Girl your channel is already on fire! Congrats! Wow I love the tip of trimming it! I used to have beautiful thick curly hair then over the years my autoimmune disease has made my hair the complete opposite…not curly and very thin. My hair has been the same length for a year…the ends just keep breaking! I am definitely trying your technique.

I have been natural for 12 years, would never ever go back to perms. Thank you for a great video. It was most definitely informative. Your crown and glory is healthy & beautiful. ✌
