Hello, everybody. So today I am here to talk about HAIR GROWTH. I get so many questions about my hair-. What I do with it, How did I get it grow? What are my secrets - And I did a video a couple years back basically detailing the main things I did to grow out my hair., Because for those of you that have not been following me for a long time and don't know where I started from-, My hair, All throughout childhood all through early adulthood, It was always extremely short.. It was never full, it was never long. It never grew past my shoulders.. So at a certain point I just thought: that's just my hair. It'S not capable of growing.. It just is out of the cards for me., But many years ago I decided to take my haircare a little more seriously.. That was in the very beginning of my haircare journey.. That was probably when I started Youtube., But even when I made that decision to TRY to grow out my hair and see if it was possible, it still would not grow No matter what I did. It wouldn't grow., And I realize now looking back on my 1st attempt at growing my hair. I was doing so many things wrong. And I also see a lot of people doing those same things. And these are people that are like ``. Why isn't my hair growing ?'', So I just wanted to come on and share some really common haircare mistakes that may be preventing your hair from growing. And just kind of walk you through how I went from really short thin, brittle hair. That just would not seem to grow to longer fuller, healthier, hair., My hair. Now I am super happy with it.. I never in a million years thought that I could get a full gigantic puff like this, with just my natural hair., So onto 10, things that you might be doing right now. That is keeping your hair from growing. And, by the way, when I say ``, keep your hair from growing''. I don't mean that literally., Because our hair is always growing. It'S always in a growth cycle.. A lot of people aren't seeing the growth. A lot of people aren't seeing their hair getting any longer Because it's breaking off faster than their growth. Rate. Just wanted to make that clear before we start, But the first thing is using too much heat Things like a blow dryer a flat iron, a curling iron.. Anything like that- using them too often can really damage your hair. Heat tools and heat styling-. They can make weak points in your hair, thinner points in your hair and those are more prone to breaking and snapping off.. It can also also make your hair feel rougher over time.. I know a lot of times when you flat iron, your hair. It feels really smooth at first., But, as time goes on, it really can damage the cuticle.. It makes it frizzy. All that stuff can happen. Just from heat damage., And before I had my hair routine down, I never knew that I could get my hair into a style without some type of heat styling.. When I was relaxed, I would flat iron my hair, so it would be straight and silky.. When I went natural I would blow-dry out my hair, because I thought that was the only way to get it to be manageable.. But there are so many ways you can style your hair without using heat tools., I'm right now on a No-Heat Challenge for 2020., So I have not used heat on my hair ... it's July. This is what month 7 And you guys can see just go through my videos. You can see all the different styles I've had this year alone., So it's definitely possible. It'S definitely doable to be nicely coiffed without heat damaging your hair.. But if you are one of those people that is using a hot tool, I would recommend using heat on your hair, no more than once or twice a month.. If you can go even longer than that even better, But using heat on your hair once a week or even several times a week like some people, It really is not, in my opinion, good for your hair.. You really wan na try to extend the time between heat, styling. Or eliminate heat styling altogether.. Next reason why your hair might not be growing is NOT deep conditioning, regularly. Deep conditioning nourishes your hair, it makes it feel healthier. It makes it stronger. And it really does assist in keeping it in tip-top shape.. I would recommend deep conditioning either once a week or once every other week., So at least twice a month give your hair some extra attention, give your hair some extra nourishment and TLC, and your hair will thank you for it.. I right now am deep conditioning once a week., I'm actually currently trying something out and there will be a video on exactly what that is in a little bit., But that's kind of depending on how often I wash my hair too., Sometimes like right now. I'Ve been washing my hair, every week., But other times I will go 2 weeks between washes just depending on the style I have in.. Deep conditioning has definitely contributed to my hair, just overall feeling so much healthier.. I'Ve noticed a lot less breakage and less shedding when I'm handling my hair., So that has been wonderful. Next hair mistake, you might be making is detangling your hair when it's dry., I always recommend, especially for those of us with natural hair-, curly kinky, coarse. Detangle, your Hair when it's wet and when it's saturated with conditioner. Detangling, while your hair is dry, is just a lot of friction, especially like I said in coarse hair.. I have been doing my detangling in the shower when I do my wash days and you guys have seen videos on my wash day. If you haven't I'll link it below.. So you can see exactly what I do., But detangling on wet hair with conditioner just makes the process so much easier.. It helps whatever detangling tool. You'Re using- your fingers, a brush, a comb to just glide right, through. And doing it that way. You lose a lot less hair. That water and conditioner combination helps you to keep more of your hair on your head, which is what we want, And for this you definitely want to find a conditioner that works for you, and that gives you a lot of slip.. I'Ve tried so many conditioners and there are a lot of bad ones. There are some good ones., My holy grail, the one that I always come back to is Aussie Moist conditioner. I've been using that for a very long time. And it definitely helps to melt my tangles.. So if you're, looking for a good conditioner - and you haven't tried that one give it a try., I'm not saying it's gon na work for everybody, but it works for me and I love it. Next hair mistake is styling your hair too often.. I admit I like changing up my style.. Almost every time you see me, my hair is different., But I have really reeled it in and I now only style my hair once a week., I used to style my hair several times a week and again I used to put heat on my hair several times. A week. And do different things to it., So now, on my wash days, I know exactly what style I'm gon na wear for the upcoming week., And I will do my hair once and that's it.. The only thing I'll have to do throughout the week is maintain. It if it starts to look a little frizzy, maybe add a little moisturizer or gel., But for the overall style I'm really not changing it. Pretty much any time you handle your hair any time you take it down. Put it up. Do this? Do that ...? You are gon na get some shedding. You are gon na get some breakage. And we want to minimize that as much as possible. So doing a style that you can set it and forget, it is gon na be something that can help you to grow out. Your hair. Protective styles are really really good for this., Especially ones where your hair isn't rubbing directly on your clothes.. So styles like buns, puffs, twists braids. Those are so good for your hair because they help you keep your hands out of your hair and keep the manipulation down.. So you definitely don't want to style. Your hair, too often. Find a style stick with it for a week, maybe more and then move on to the next one., But try not to style your hair. Every single day. Next wearing styles that cause too much tension.. I'M talking about things like super tight, ponytails, really tight braids.. You know how you see, people get braids and then their scalp gets bumps and it gets really red. Stuff like that, can rip out your hair at the root.. Sometimes that is irreparable.. You definitely wan na make sure that any style you get is not too tight and it's not pulling too much to where it's super uncomfortable to wear.. If you don't want bald spots, if you don't want bald edges, make sure you're not putting too much tension on your hair. Next poor diet and not getting enough water.. This is so cliche. But it's very true: you are what you eat.. Sometimes your hair growth can be stunted because your body just doesn't have the necessary nutrients. It needs for your hair to flourish., So you wan na make sure you're getting in a lot of fruits.. You wan na make sure you're getting in a lot of vegetables.. You wan na make sure you're getting in some healthy fats.. You wan na make sure you are drinking enough water on a daily basis.. Water is the key to life.. You need water for every type of bodily process. Back in the day. My diet was absolutely terrible.. I ate a lot of fast food. I didn't eat a lot of vegetables, I hardly drank water., But when I went plant-based and when I started increasing my water intake, I definitely saw a significant improvement in my hair in my rate of growth. And a lot of people asked me if I thought my Diet change had any impact on my hair And I really do believe it helped tremendously. How you treat your body on the inside. It really does show up on the outside. Next thing, not moisturizing your hair and especially the ends of your hair. Sadly, back in the day, I never moisturized my hair, because I just thought it weighed it down it wouldn't work., Especially when I was in my flat ironing days. I just couldn't apply moisturizer cuz, my hair would revert, it would get fluffy frizzy.. So I really didn't moisturize and my hair paid for it because it never went anywhere. But moisturizing. Your ends is a must in my opinion., Because the ends of our hair they're, the oldest and they're, also the driest.. Our scalp produces sebum, which is a natural oil that can nourish the top parts of your hair, the hair at the root., But down towards the bottom. It can get super dry and brittle. And that dryness can lead to breakage.. So if you want your hair to grow, you definitely don't want your hair to be breaking.. So, in order to avoid that you wan na moisturize, your ends., You wan na keep your ends hydrated, you want to keep them soft and pliable.. So that way, when you are going to style your hair, you get a lot less breakage. For me. If I have my hair in a protective style like cornrows or twists, I will take a cream moisturizer. I will just slather it on my ends at night and then by the morning it's already soaked in it's penetrated my hair. And my hair feels super soft. My ends, don't feel rough. For a style like this. I will just take a moisturizer in a spray bottle and at night I will spray my puff. Extremely easy.. If I'm wearing something like box braids, I will still take a spray bottle of moisturizer and oil and spray those braids so that it penetrates down, and my real hair underneath is still getting that moisture.. The next thing that I notice a lot of people NOT doing is they're not stimulating their scalp.. I have previously talked about how I like to massage my head.. I do that a couple times a week.. I don't use oil, usually when I massage my head by the way.. Sometimes I will use my fingers other times. I will use my little handheld electric massager tool. And either way whatever you wan na, do simply getting the blood flow to your head. To better circulate. Can really help with hair growth. And any problem area you may have like if you have a thinning spot in your hair from tension., If your edges are thinning because of styling or what have you just whenever you apply your moisturizer massage that in really get your Scalp circulating and it just brings more nutrients more blood flow to your hair follicles, which can help increase your growth and even regrow hair. That was lost.. So I swear by scalp massages scalp stimulation.. You only have to do it for 5-10 minutes, maybe a couple times a week., But if you stick with it along with a healthy hair regimen, you should begin to see results. Using the wrong products.. This is something that is a bit of trial and error.. It took me years to figure out products that really work for my hair., Because I would see people use this and that and I'm like `` ooh, that made her hair look so bomb. Let me use this'' and it just ..., So this may take you a little time, but make sure you use products that actually make your hair feel good. Make your hair look good, and just because something worked for the next person, it doesn't mean it's gon na work for you., But finding those key items have helped so much in just the overall manageability of my hair, which in turn leads to me not losing so Much hair when I'm styling and when I'm doing any type of process with my hair. So figure out the key things you want. Try to keep it as simple as possible.. You don't wan na over complicate things you don't wan na have to use a million products. And finally not protecting your hair. While you sleep., We toss, we turn we move all about. And when we are laying down, if our head is on cotton or whatever your bedding is, if it's not silk or satin, that can just be a lot of friction at night. And that can cause breakage That can cause dryness. Because it really just sucks the moisture out of your hair.. So when you're going to sleep, you wan na make sure to protect your hair in some way.. You can use a scarf to tie your hair down. You can a sleep cap.. You can even use satin or silk pillow cases.. That'S really good for people that really don't like things on their head. And those things will help reduce the friction between your hair and any other materials that are bad for your hair.. So you know we keep all of our hair in tact, especially your edges. Around your edges are extremely vulnerable, So we wan na protect our precious crowns. And yea guys, that's it. Those were the 10 main things. I see a lot of people doing that. Maybe you shouldn't if you wan na, grow out your hair and you wan na get some length going.. If you have any other tips for hair growth, maybe some things you've done that worked for you leave them below.. Also, I would love to hear from people that were like me and you had short hair, pretty much all your life and you changed up some things, and now your hair has really taken off.. Let me know what you did.. I want to compare and see if we're similar. So leave that all down in the comment section. But umm yea, I'm gon na go ahead and get outta here, guys. Thanks! So much for watching

Kaaylaa B: I don't know who needs to hear this but know that whenever you feel alone, God is with you. Whenever you feel like you're unimportant, God's got all His eyes on you. Whenever you feel like everybody has forgotten about you, God remembers and thinks of you. You may not see Him but He sees you. He's eagerly waiting for you to notice him and to start a loving father-child relationship with you. He'll never fail you. He for sure never failed me. He's real and alive! God bless whoever reads this and may you overcome all your struggles, sorrows and receive spiritual, mental and physical healing. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Hermit! One of Many!!!: I'm a father who tries his best to maintain his daughter's natural hair. Your videos help out a lot! Thanks for doing what you do. You're beautiful!

Naturally Dunn: Working out 5 times a week Drinking water with lemon Wearing protective styles Spritz with aloe Vera juice and water or a moisturizer that is ph 4-5 Use Shea butter Oil scalp with fenugreek oil Prepoo with oil Use a clarifying shampoo and a moisturizer shampoo Deep condition No hair dye Take a multi vitamin Stay away from McDonald’s Relax. Read a book, listen to music and be patient

Enigmatic Moon: Mistakes and in parentheses the recommendation: 1) using too much heat (extend the time between heat styling or eliminate it altogether) 2) not deep conditioning regularly (do it twice a month) 3) detangling hair when it's dry (detangle when hair is wet and with conditioner) 4) styling hair too often (protective styles such as buns, twists, braids etc) 5) styles that cause too much tension (dont choose styles that are too tight) 6) what you eat (increase water intake, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables 7) not moisturizing hair especially the ends (moisturize that hair gurl) 8) no scalp stimulation ( massage your head with your moisturizer) 9) using the wrong products (choose products that make your hair feel and look good) 10) not protecting hair when sleeping ( use silk or satin scarf or pillowcases)

Kienesha Ebron: Please understand that what works for one may not work for others. Examples, Biotin grows the hell out of my nails but does nothing for my hair. Rice water damaged my hair but it grew my youngest daughter's hair 2 inches in a month. I have not personally tried Aloe Vera yet but it did nothing for my oldest daughter's hair. Also, I eat a healthy diet and drink alot of water-still no difference in hair growth and retention. That is why YouTube is such a great forum so everyone can research, listen to other natural's routine and that way you can experiment to see what works for you.

Joy Deja King: She looks so gorgeous in this video. Love the makeup, lilac off the shoulder sweater and the huge Afro puff. Just beautiful

Monica M: Kim. I have noticed the difference in your hair over the years. You’re definitely one of the OGs who’s still putting out banging content. Great tips! I’m doing the hair challenge with you this year. My hair thickening like nobody’s business!

Tina Whitney: Don't forget iron pills for those that are anemic. Low iron will also not let your hair grow

Coiledbydesign: Strangely enough, I'm on the opposite end. When I was relaxed, my hair throughout childhood and early adulthood grew effortlessly. Now that I'm natural (4c) I've had to overcome a number of setbacks and errors. Mostly I've learned to deep condition, moisturize regularly and leave it alone throughout the week. Still learning and thankful for the natural community.

Hair Inspiration: These hair styles are lit

Dude: Everyone needs to remember that on an average, our hair grows half an inch a month. That's 6 inches a year and 30 inches in five years WHEN YOU TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT. It's not magic, it's consistent care. Take good care of your hair and you'll retain length.

Hannah A: I would say to avoid doing the "trial and error" phase of hair products, I would advise getting familiar with the science behind what each ingredient does and how it will affect your hair based on what you need. I recommend learning more about this on Curly Chemistry's channel. She really broke it down for me on what products to use and why. I also agree with scalp stimulation. My hair has grown really quickly because of my habit of massaging my scalp! Amazon has them for affordable prices. <3

Yewande I: I had short shoulder hair my whole life I thought I was just destined to have short, dry, broken hair. However, I was ABUSING my strands with heat (even when my hair was dirty), relaxers, tight braids, you name it. I had never moisturized my hair or even knew what deep conditioner was. My "hair care" consisted of shampoo maybe every two months and 5 mins of a random conditioner. Never got trims. In April/May, I decided to turn it around. I got a good trim. I have been washing and deep conditioning every 2 weeks. Wearing styles that protect my natural hair that are NOT tight at all. I have been heat free and the breakage has really reduced. I haven't noticed any serious growth yet but my hair is not dry any more and it does not break nearly as much. Before, I used to comb my hair and my shirt would be covered in little broken hairs. Now its healthy and moisturized and hopefully growing!

Portia Lewis-Gray: - You can also get heat damage from the sun. So, when you’re going outside (especially for long periods of time) be sure to protect your hair accordingly. Great video, Kim! ❤️❤️

letitia williams: No heat for 3yrs. Love my natural healthy hair. Wish I had done this years ago! But it's never to late guys. I started my journey 6 months ago. Unbelievable results

aly2011vids: Approximately 3 years ago I decided to follow all of Kim's tips from "How to Grow Hair Long, Think, & Healthy " video. Ever since, my hair has flourished! This is the longest my hair has ever been and the healthiest. It is thick and down to my mid-back. Many of the things she said in her video 3 years ago are reiterated here. I highly recommend following her advice consistently, and you will see results. Thank you Kim for all that you do on TheChicNatural; it has changed my hair journey forever.

KIS4Beauty: Kim, I remember where you came from and I'm so proud of you. We have the same hair type and I should be where you are but I'm not....you have SURPASSED me SO I'm going to implement these tips...thumbs up if you remember when #theChicNatural was #backsyncfan... love your channel girlie

Chi Udeaja: I haven’t used heat on my hair in almost 2 years (since I shaved my head for the 2nd time). I wet my hair, moisturize it, and apply castor oil to seal everything daily/every other day. I twist or re-twist my hair when needed. I trim monthly/bi-monthly & it’s honestly growing the best it ever has. It helps that I’m too lazy to straighten my hair or doing any kind of intricate styling, lol. I just moisture it and twist it into chunky twists and throw on a wig or head wrap, lol ❤️

K A S: I had multiple bald spots after going natural, but I started using castor oil and detangling my hair from the ends to the root. It took a while to grow that hair out, but even now my hair went from a little above shoulder length & thin to thick and at my armpit. Thanks for your tips sis!

Talya Draper: The best thing I did for my hair was deep conditioning my here every week, finding good moisturizing products, and find styles that I could leave alone for at least a week. My hair was in a horrible state. It was always breaking off around my edges and would never grow past my shoulders, but now after a year my hair is 11'' long and I love it. All the advice given in this video is totally correct, I do everything but stimulate my scalp and have a healthier diet. Those two things I still need to change.

Roselomon TV: I try to add water to my hair daily even when I have a protective style on. It does wonders!

MsBrooklyn11232: I am going through this right now. My 4c hair isn't growing pass my shoulders and I have been natural for 3 years now. So I definitely need to his video!

Alexis Ariel: This has motivated me to not give up on my hair. I’ve been natural my whole life. The only time my hair was pass my shoulders was when I had locks and they was very fine too. Definitely going to keep at it. Great video

That’s So Nicole: I recently cut my hair due to color/heat damage, this video came just in time as I get back on the journey to healthier/longer hair. Great tips and your hair is gorgeous!

kalika moore: Great advice! My hair growth has been awesome. Because I found out that being iron deficient can also cause breakage. My hair grew everywhere except the middle. That kept breaking at a certain point. Everyone told me it was because of pony tails, the shampoos, not getting trims. Although I stopped everything suggested. All it was is a simple iron deficiency. So that’s my advice. It works for me .

Average Girl: I realized exactly what you said my hair was growing but the rate of the breakage was higher than the growth so I made 5 changes (oiling and massaging my scalp every night with castor oil and wild growth mixture, trimming followed by split end serum every 3 months, properly detangling my hair, deep conditioning and no more blow drying completely air) my hair is much more healthier. moisturized and every time I take my braids out I notice my growth

Renee: One thing I’d like to mention about detangling: "dry" detangling using just an oil & no water is an option as well. I learned that my hair prefers “dry” finger detangling using an oil pre-poo. I know it’s not the most common type of detangling, but whenever I tried it wet with conditioner, all of the product essentially turns into glue once it’s wet. WhatLiesBeneathTheWeave and PowerInYourCurl also “dry” detangle using an oil. Just mentioning this because I didn’t know this was an option before I saw someone else mention it.

lucy de la cruz: 3 months no heat, just for deep conditioning. Deep conditioning once a week. Sealing my moisture. Hair protective styles. Massaging my scalp once or twice a week , using a silk pillowcase and covering my hair at night. Trimming every 6 months. Slowly but surely seeing results.

Brittney Davis: Using the right products during the right season is a good tip too I've seen a video years ago at the start of my natural hair care journey that discussed hair care during certain moon phases and how a group of people had practice this technique all of their lives. Thought it was a superstition thing or witchcraft. Turns out it is very important that you know what works for your hair during every season as your needs do change with the weather.

SoRena Dix: I've been on a water base hair care regimen since Nov. '19: fermented rice water (with orange peels for scent), and aloe vera. Never through away the AV skin; you can get all of the nutrients when you boil it. Let the water cool, squeeze the water out of the leaves/skin, and then refrigerate. My hair has been growing like wild flowers. I spray AV on my hair/scalp daily.

Ty Elting: I've found that you really don't need to do much. Wash, deep condition, oil message your scalp, keep heat and tension styles to a minimum and trim your ends as needed, protientreatments once a month. Wear a silk scarf when sleeping. Figure out what products works best for your hairtype. I've always had long hair since childhood and would always get asked what do I do... this is my routine....Keep it simple.

Janelle Wallace: I’m on the no heat hair journey as well and I have seen major differences.! #7monthsstrong

Janay Riley: Hi Kim! Great video and suggestions as always. I have 4b/4c hair that was naturally really thick but it got thicker and longer once I started doing some of the things you mentioned. I basically deep condition every time I wash my hair now lol. I don't use heat unless I'm sitting under a dryer on medium for 20 minutes. I also spray my hair with water & leave in daily. It has helped a lot over the past 4 years. I'm trying to figure out new ways to keep my hair protected and nourished when it's in box braids. If you have any tips that would be great. I oil my scalp more often now and my edges.

NaeNation: I have been on this heatless journey with you and I can definitely see more hair growth...it was hard at first but now I don't even think about flat irons or blow dryers.

Asha Linton-Lee: A recommendation I have is Exercise! Gets the blood and the nutrients flowing, it’s a effective way to stimulate hair growth! If your worried about your hair smelling funky, spraying it with some witch hazel and your fav essential oil should help :)

V Morris: I actually thought my hair loss was only due to menopause and not getting my hair flat ironed every 3 wks. Well with vitamins, and oiling my scalp with hair growth oil and total elimination of flat ironing, my hair has stopped shedding and so much easier to detangle. And I agree that Aussie conditioner is a miracle worker. Thanks for all your hair tips!

Vee Wisdom: So gorgeous! Love all your tips ! You were the one to teach me how to do heat-less blowouts still do it to this day on my hair and daughter’s

Roselomon TV: *I made the decision to care for my afro natural hair this year and it was one of the best decisions I've made! I was thinking that my hair doesn't grow until I started this journey and the most amazing thing is that I've been sharing my journey on my channel to motivate other ladies and they seen results! Have you tried any natural hair treatments? What do you recommend about using aloe vera for hair growth? You look gorgeous Sis!*

TheOne: Honestly, ever since i started watching your videos, I noticed such a change in my hair. My hair has always been thick and healthy but i never could retain my length. I'm just about 1 1/2 years in of cutting hair to my neck (too chump for big chop) and my hair is flourishing. The way it curls up when i went it, i just loveeee. Also, detangling was a major thing for me. I never detangled and washed my hair all together, brushing with shampoo, and just not knowing wtf i was doing. All of your tips have worked. I'll go to other channels too but I always come back to yours. I stopped wearing weaves personally because i'm so bad with taking them out. I yank and pull because I don't have patience however i've been doing the braids for most of the year and my hair is back where it was when I cut it.... but healthier. Love all my sistas for their channels and helping us understand our hair.

Kay Jay: Need this!! Quarantine has made me embrace my natural hair and its definitely lacking moisture

Carmen Fluker: My hair has always been long since I was a child. My mom took great care of my hair taking me to the shop, getting ends trimmed, putting a scarf on at night. So I had a good routine but as an adult, especially in my 20s, I found my hair shedding and breaking a lot. Long story short: I manipulated it too much! I was always changing styles, like daily. I used heat on my hair a lot trying to make it look smooth and straight. Once I decided to go 100% natural (I used to relax 3-4x per year) I would only use heat 3-4x per year for getting trims. And I always do a lot of protective styles. Now my hair doesn't shed and break so much.

TheCryptoQueen: First of all I just want to say that I have been following you for so many years and I absolutely love your channel! Everything you mentioned in this video is 100% facts! I went through so many products and techniques that never worked. And I found that like you, my hair does not like to be manipulated too much. So I keep my hair braided down and I wear wigs as my protective styles. But when I am not in wigs I am still moisturizing and feeling my hair protecting my ends and I am so excited to try some of your new styles. Banding my hair letting it air dry and doing styles on stretched hair really do make a difference because you are not using heat. Now what I will incorporate is that edge control because your edges are laid honey! Now that my hair has grown past my bra strap I am willing to try some natural hairstyles and wear my hair out more, but still low manipulation styles. So glad to be back! I can't wait till next week to try your heatless curl method. Thank you again.

Voya Shan: #teamnoheat I have three girls with three different hair textures. Lemme tell you, your no heat routine gives me life cause it helps give their hair a small break in between styling and helps me to manage my time! Have only been using a blow dry maybe once a month before your challenge but not going back after your no heat routine cause I'm seeing a real difference in our hair! And yes nutrients and water intake have played the biggest part! Thanks to alot of your vegan meals! Sorry for this looong comment.

Miya Jones: DEEP CONDITIONING is essential for retaining moisture. It literally changed my life. I use heat because it makes it work better. My natural hair (4a-4b medium - low porosity) is moisturized for a week or more. It stopped my extreme breakage and my hairs softer and easier to manage. It worked so well i put it in my sisters TRANSITIONING hair haha her roots were sooo soft and she's 4b-4c.

ChangesOfTomorrow: I love your esthetics and color choices - how your lips and eyeshadow match, the match between your sweater and nails. Absolutely gorgeous!

Sindy Thomas: Thanks Kim! Great tips I've heard most of them previously but it's always good to get affirmation, your hair is looking amazingly healthy

Breezy Bre: I stopped dying my hair, stretch my hair after every wash day, trim my hair every 3-4 months, and involve more heat into my routine since I'm low porosity. I also took iron pills for my anemia which resulted in thicker hair. My hair is finally down my back

Sierra LaFaye: I agree that deep conditioning is a MUST

Ebony Gorum: 45 days ago. I changed the way I ate. I always drink water but I increased my fruits and veggies. I too use Aussie conditioner for deep condition sometimes. I have been using pure aloe to condition my hair and homemade aloe oil to massage it. There is a noticeable difference and I love it Protective styles and changing what I put in my body has helped me.

1 X: I'm currently transitioning to natural hair but a year ago I managed to get my hair past shoulder length after years of it breaking off by firstly giving it a good cut. I think it got rid of the split ends which were splitting up my hair shaft and keeping my hair short so once they were gone my hair stayed long. Also, I started putting oil in my hair with my conditioner and leaving it in for a while then washing it out. I stopped using straighteners and just blow dried my hair after washing and got used to the look.

Courageous Cat: This is a very informative video and it is very much appreciated! Thank you

heyy shaeshae: Great tips! But we didn’t talk about trimming. I think trimming is important for retaining length. If your hair is like mine prone to fairy knots and split ends you should trim more often rather then once a year (did that and had to get a few inches cut off). Not having a trimming regimen has set back my hair length goals but I think I’m on the right path now.

S Bella: This lady and Naptural85, are my go tos' for haircare. They are reliable, honest and they aren't here to show off, but otherwise to inform. Love 'em

SUBHE'S HAIR AFFAIR: I’ve followed @TheChiNatural since 2015 on my personal account and all the things she’s ever recommended did do wonders. Even her styles that I tried were and are still good. Thank you for putting this video together

Ms Tinique's Journey: Perms have definitely stunted my hair growth. My hair stayed the same length for so many years. Now that I stopped putting perms in my hair, it won't stop growing. And my hair would always break in the middle of my head and now it's strong like the rest of my hair. You would have to offer me a million dollars to ever put a perm back in my hair.

Niya Jones: Thank you love for the tips and advice. I currently found out that I have low porosity hair and I researched different products that would work for my hair. My hair has done a dramatic change around since I changed the products that I have been using. It was such a huge relief for me to get my hair back on track

Natural Brown Beauty: Yes completely agree! Alot of great tips! Just takes time to learn your hair and the products that work best for you! I been natural since 2014 and it took me a few years to really learn how to take care of my hair and still learning to this day!

Ruth Nduta: all i say is, "dont be a prisoner of hair". if u wonna dye your hair, cut it, texturize etc, just do it. it is hair, it will still grow again.

Sarah Easton: Great tips!!! I was nodding in agreement the whole way thru!! I'm 10 years no relaxer (never grew out past a neck length bob) but sadly only 1 year natural thriving lol. Products, deep conditioning, protecting hair from breakage and diet REALLY make a difference. Took me waay too long to realize coconut oil was not for me!! I have goals for great growth RETENTION in the future. Love your vids!!

Kimmeca Simon: Love this video! You nailed it! I’m a licensed hairstylist and I tell my clients this all the time I give them the same advice what I can’t give them is patients lol thanks sharing❤️

ardette dorsett: Thanks for your clear, simple explanations and personal experience recount. Greatly appreciated.

Jay Doris Powell: You’re the reason I know about hair growth through scalp massages. My hair has been forever changed!

Roselomon TV: Okay, I'm not so good at scalp stimulation! I need to do that more! Thank you for the reminder! I feel like you made this video for me

Latonya Wilson: One of the products that has tremendously helped my wash day is the Dove Nutritive Solutions Intensive Repair Conditioner. This helps detangling my 4b-4c hair so much easier. I also pre-poo with V05 conditioner. These two steps make wash day smoother. Also, the Dove is less than $5, and the V05 is @ $1!

Hattie Colley: Thank u Kim! Mine was the same when I was younger because I knew nothing about moisturizing, nor did I take the time to do so. Only when I recognized the likes and dislikes of my hair did it began to flourish. One of the things my hair does not like is combs, neither does it Luke being manipulated a lot. The more I leave it alone, the better it grows. Left me with getting rid of so many products that worked for someone else, but my hair hated it. Thank u for sharing and keep it up, looks great!

PlumBerryCherries: You have been one of my Favorite Youtubers for years girl. YEARS!!! I just wanted to Thank You for continuing to bring us good and honest to God content. Love this channel.

Curlie Miah: My hair has never been past my shoulders since I was 10 years old my mom gave me a perm and I had to get a big chop I was blow drying my hair almost everyday and I’m just like why isn’t my hair growing so I started watching yt videos and I stopped using heat completely I deep condition every week I wear mini twists and mini braids I oil my scalp every 2 days I also detangle while my hair is wet and I used to use a wig brush but that broke my hair off a lot so now I use a scalp massager to detangle and I barely get breakage anymore and I started to trim my own ends I sometimes detox my hair as well and now my hair is past my shoulders I am so proud of myself

SimplyNaturalCai: Water, fruits and vegetables definitely helped with my hair growth journey. AND keeping my hair moisturized!

bronxkies: I remember you from back in the day! It’s amazing to see how big your channel has grown. Me and my cousin used to talk about how cool and laidback your videos are. What I really like about you and your content is you’re not putting on this whole internet black act. So many black female natural channels are overdoing the “sis” persona and it’s exhausting. It’s too much to sit through sometimes. You’re not putting on an act- you’re simply being yourself and it’s so refreshing. Gonna start tuning in again!

Muna okezie: I was able to retain much length by listening and knowing my hair. I switched from washing weekly to biweekly. I incorporated scalp massage and Yoga as well. I deep conditioned every wash day and then I PRE-POO before each wash day. I also trim when needed. I must say eating HEALTHY and being emotionally stable has helped me too. Thank you so much for sharing

Rachel M: Love this! Helpful thanks for sharing. I love using your wash routine.

EbbyRo Smith: Protective styles and avoiding damage is the key!

Kuroe-Chan: That’s exactly me. Always been fine and low density. Longest I made it was past shoulders but not my crown. All be it healthy, it was litterally3-4” shorter than back. Now it’s impossible and I’ve been natural for real for 4 years. Before last fall it was more even at least 6-8 ins and now I’ve lost it all. My hair breaks easy . Ugh I’m frustrated

VoxyLikes: I tried ALL of these tips and I actually retained 5 inches of growth after the last year. IT WORKS!!! <3

Marjorie Coleman: Kim your hair has grown soo much!!! Deep conditioning is a must for natural hair. Great tips! Looking beautiful as usual, cute top. ❤

Shadira Chester: I love that this video isn’t saying “get this product or get that product” it’s more of making sure your deep conditioning or not using heat. I really appreciate this video.

Danyelle On Purpose: Your hair is so beautiful! Although it takes work, I love being natural and seeing my hair flourish. It’s totally worth it ❤️

Soso Models: I have had short hair my whole life. It doesn’t grow past my shoulders. Will work on taking better care of it. Thanks for this video!

Soclassc: Man im pretty good with following 8 of the 10 suggestions. I even been taking Biotin for a couple months now. I've also tried the rice water... My hair seems to grow very slow & the ends get thinner as it grows. But stays thick if I keep it above my shoulders I'm an officer who happens to have an active cosmetology license. And as an officer we have to wear our hair up. I'm so tired of protective updos. I should just shave my head. Sounds simpler

Queen Of Anastasia: My hair is growing alot since I've started taking being natural more serious, in 2018. I use little to no heat and all my products are natural, I even started using leave in conditioner and I deep condition sometimes twice a week. My problem is, I can't get my twist out and braidouts to last past one or two days before I have to retwist. I love wash and go's but I like to switch it up, plus it takes forever for my hair to dry with wash and go's. I know if I can get those styles to last longer, I can retain more length.

Angie L: Great info. i think a lot of us know but don't practice consistently. I've found that moisture and not "messing" with my hair so much (comb/style once a wk) is the minimal effort that allows it grow long. Fyi for the lazy daisies

Esther Gibson: This video really helped me because I was doing a lot of things wrong .Thank you!

Ms. Michelle Agalte: This was great information. I'm 54 and my hair grows like it did when I was younger. I've noticed the difference in just a month. I make my own leave in conditioner/detangler, hair oil/moisturizer and I moisturize weekly and deep condition bi-weekly. I actually moisturize my ends with pure vitamins E mixed with strained aloe vera plant. I wear protective styles often but when I wear my big puff out I feel so proud and love it when folk ask "where did u buy ur puff"

Efraz Frazi: Hi there. Thanks so much for those helpful tips. Your video was well done and you were thorough in your teaching and explaining the tips without a lot of fluff. It was straight to the point and easy to follow along. You spoke from what you know and have learned and experienced. Very professional. Your hair looks very beautiful and you as well. Keep up the good work and God bless you!

moni L: How often do you recommend having your hair cut or trimmed? And what method do you use if you’re not using heat, in order to get an even cut?

ForeverErica Love: And don't forget to keep them ends trimmed. One thing I did in between my deep condition ( every week) is I applied a homemade hair mask for an hour, then put in a protective styles using leave in condition spray and putting Shea butter on my damp ends. Also knowing your hair type and porosity is key to knowing how to style and care for hair including washing and knowing the type of products to use. Type 4 hair should stay away from sulfates and other ingredients that strip the hair of moisture and natural hair oils. It's a learning process for us with type 4 hair.

DeLinda Williams: Thanks for adding the captions Kim. You look so beautiful. I'm guilty of not wearing my scarf or bonnets to sleep once in a while. I'm also guilty of not massaging my scalp now and then. I used to be obsessed with moisturizing my hair morning and night, then I fell off my routine and sometimes forget for a few days at a time. This was an enjoyable and informative video.

Somaya Lewis: Your hairstyles and hair tips are so helpful keep up doing what you do

JaTara Hawkins: I agree that eating healthier and drinking water helps. Less to no heat. Finding the right products and minimizing those products helps. I only use 3. I also agree touching your hair less helps. My hair stays in twists and the only time they get messed with is to retwist. Tight hairstyles have to be an issue bc it’s tight lol. Idk how people can function with it tight. I too struggled with long hair and it was a constant daily prayer to have long hair and nails, which I now have both. It’s definitely a lot of trial and error but anything worth having takes true commitment and prayer. The Lord always leads and guides. Loved the video. You be blessed.

Mimi Richardson: Thanks for the advice. I am going on a hair growing journey so I am definitely going to take your advice.

Weavedin, Crocheting and Knitting Platform: Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information. I'm struggling with dry brittle hair... the hair volume is not so good as well. So this information is like gold dust to me. Thank you once again.

Tawanda Clark: Your afro puff ponytail hairstyle is so cute.☺️ I started pulling away from hair chemicals more, using hair grease with coconut oil and other herbs in it, conditioner after washing, keeping my hair moisturized, using a less damaging protecting style, and I do not put alot of heat in my heat in my hair. I noticed a difference. I have 4b hair with medium porosity.

Latoya Cox: Absolutely wonderful videos and results!! I too wasn’t growing past my shoulders for a while until I began to focus on my hair. Now my hair is in the center of my back and down past my face laying down past my shoulder blades. However I would like it if it was thicker I’m natural and 2 main things I’ve started to do is deep conditioning ( didn’t always do that) when it’s not in protective styles and prepoo washing with fresh aloe Vera plants. I’ve seen great growth and healthy hair results over the past year! However I struggle with constantly buying things I think will do wonders but I’m never consistent with any but my main 2. Oh I also faithfully take hair supplements biotin hair pills. I must work on better water intake!! But thank you so much!!

lealea j: Wow, you're almost at 2 million subscribers! Another great video!

Dee Gee: Thanks Kim! This is so helpful! I have minimized heat and noticed a huge difference! I only blow dry my hair now, but I will try ur techniques! TFS!

Rebbiane’s Beauty: Ever since I stop styling my hair everyday, adding heat and washing my hair often I have seen the difference... now it’s extra think and full n longer... been doing for about 6 months or so and I love the difference

Kiara Paul: My hair looks almost exactly like yours used to... and I feel like it’s not growing but this advice has been the best by far ... I’m definitely gonna take your advice on everything sooo THANKS

Tasha Frazier: Hi Kim, thanks for the video. My daughter has 3C hair. I will add a dime size amount of argan oil after flat ironing it. She's says it weighs it down & makes it looks oily. Do you have any recommendations for keeping her hair moisturized without argan oil?

grimlock smash: By the way, I haven't used heat on my hair in 3 years. And even before then, it was rare except for when I was in 8th grade. At this point, I have only gotten down properly detangling my hair, and finding products that are better with it. Still testing a few shampoos, still working up to deep conditioning. Don't let my picture fool you, that was years ago and my hair wasn't even that great then. It's roughly the same length now, although I'm much better at taking care of it.

WhitneyStylez: Your hair is beautiful . Congrats on your journey and success with growing thick healthy hair.
