What'S good everybody, this is my good side. So allow me to introduce myself if you are new here, I'm your mayor well, delivering all of your curly hair tips. Tutorials tricks empty, so you can achieve your curly hair goals, which may look something like this. If you're looking something like this yeah, this video is extremely extremely important. It'S a video that I've needed to create for quite a while now, because, if you get this part wrong, your entire style will be ruined. What I'm talking about here is how to know. If you are applying the right amount of product for your hair, so without further ado, keep watching this video lore. Once again, I will be demonstrating on each side of my head here, two different results that you can get if you are doing things um. How do I stay wrong any better way to do things if you really want your curls to have Popkin definitions and lasts you for days, so, let's get started in half. While I'm explaining this process, I will be demonstrating a perfectly balanced application on my right side, which take note. These product amounts also work for my hair, but I will explain throughout this video what to use for different hair types and on the dull side, I will show you what it's like not to apply enough product. The first thing you really don't want to be doing this on is dry built-up and dirty has your hair should be clean, conditioned and silly enough that you can easily comb through, because, let me be frank: if your hair is dry, masking it with a bunch of Different products is not gon na solve your problem. Likewise, if you don't use enough product, your style is not gon na last you all that hard work for nothing or was it hard work? Are you slacking now here's the trick. You don't want your hair to be dripping wet everywhere, and you also don't want it to be so dry that you can't work product evenly through it, because if you start to work on hair that you just tell the tribe or that has been air drying for Far too long, your results will become inconsistent because there are going to be areas in your head, which will be wetter and the areas that are drier. This situation can give you an array of problems such as now, you won't be able to distribute your products evenly, which means you might overdo it and put way too much product to start compensating for the moisture loss or you just don't apply enough product now. I'M always saying to listen to your hair, make sure you are in a nice quiet, peaceful place for this, because you want to hear this crucial sound. What I do want to listen for is a good squish. I will usually squeeze out excess moisture from my hair until I feel that it is still very wet, but not soaking and not just damp, and if you can't hear anything, then you need to add some water moisture back into it. Now what you don't want to do is applying ten tons of ten different products. In many many cases less is actually more now. This does also depend on what kind of outcome you were looking to achieve. If volume is what you want, you definitely want less products. The absolute bare minimum that your hair needs it strives for is some sort of leave-in moisture. You can see behind me here. I actually have a ton of products that I have used before that have worked on my hair because I had used them correctly now, if you don't have a lot of hair and you don't want to be using a lot of products, you may be able to Get away with just a curl, enhancing cream and replace of a leave-in conditioner, or if you have very dry hair and a lot that you'll probably want a leave-in conditioner, as well as a curl defining cream. Now you also may be completely confused as to how much product you should be applying too little is not enough, and if your is not quenched in nourishment well, then your style would just not last you. It will have little definition and likely lots of friends and to come dry. Now, here's a rule of thumb, the amount of product that you apply. Size-Wise is usually as a guideline how much hair is on your head and you can measure this density by cupping. Your hair, you don't want to squeeze the hair, but when you cup your hair and I bring my fingers together, I slide that through that's what I'm left with now. If you have a high density of very thick, coarse hair, your circle of product is likely going to be much bigger or if you have very fine and low density hair, you could be much smaller again. This is kind of like a rule of thumb, kind of a guideline on how to determine how much you're gon na need to use, but it's usually correct, but then again on the other side of the spectrum, you want to be careful not to overdo it. It'S usually not the product, that's the problem, it's how you're using it, especially if you're being very heavy-handed at the root, so something that I like to do is actually once I apply the product in my nicely wet squishy hair. When I wring my hair lightly - and I could see prod popping out, that is a very, very good sign that I have enough product because I'm seeing it, I don't want to be playing too much that I don't even see the hair or, and it's just product Spilling out, if that's the case, I actually want to remove some product, but if I'm not seeing any product, if I'm not seeing any type of cream coming out, then I likely want to add just a little bit more again. This does depend on your type of porosity, but with drier hair like mine. I want to see some of that moisture and then I can feel the moisture. I can see the moisture. I can hear the moisture we're good. Your problem might not even be the product amount, but your application. Now. What I do not want to be seen any more tutorials is simply and only scrunching product in that's kind of all, we knew growing up. It'S like: we just need to scrunch it in so you're, not saturating products. Through your hair and you're missing areas, then your style is going to be inconsistent. My preferred way of defining the hair is by using a Denman brush. I like to work in sections smooth out the hair work all the product through and to find the curl all-in-one with it, whether that just be raking through your hair or if your finger coiling or I like to use the Denman brush. Now I applied one product to the dope side. I kind of worked it through a little bit get a lot of scrunching, I'm pretty dry here, and this is what I'm left with already drying really fast, as opposed to the other side, where I applied it. On more wet than damp hair and thoroughly saturated through my hair. Now, because I'm loving this definition, which you can already see, there's more of on this side - I'm going to do what's optional here and apply a gel to really hold it in. I don't want to scare you, but if you're someone that is not using any gel or even mousse, it is a fact that your hair is simply not going to last you as long, if you're, finding that your hair is very frizzy and you're not getting really Defined results. This could be why, okay, now, if you want to keep that look, you need to add some hold for the definition, and this will include using a styler that gives a little bit of that crunchy cast now gel said to have many different consistencies. They can be very thick and jelly, they can be very liquidy, they could be creamy and tone or clear in color. Now, a general rule of thumb that I like to use is: if I want just some very light hold, I will simply scrunch in the gel. My preferred type of gel is more liquidy because I find it's easier to scrunch just into the hair, but if what you're looking for is more of a medium or a strong hold, then you want to be more thorough with your application. So I'm talking about praying hands get into the hair. Liquid gels are pretty great for all hair types and are particularly lighter. So if you have more fine to medium hair, then you might prefer more with liquidy gel, whereas a thicker, gel and a jelly may be heavier and might provide more control if you have coarser or quaintly your hair types and we're still hearing some magic now, if Your curls said to frizz apart very easily, so they don't keep their definition or they also fall flat easily. Then you're gon na want to work a little bit more gel into the hair for really tight curls. You will actually benefit from breaking the gel through. That'S something I like to avoid because they're like a lot more movement in my hair. But if you really need to control the curls, you will get more of that if you're raking through more of a thicker jelly type of gel, as it will tend to give more hold. Now, if your hairs a little bit more on the wavy side, you may also want to add more gel but make sure that you are smoothing it evenly. You might not want to rake it through to break up your clumps, but definitely praying hands and lots of scrunching after bottom-up pen, squish, squishing and squeezing it is just making sure that you know your hair has enough product. You can hear it, you can feel it. It'S not running all over your hands, it's not spilling out everywhere. You also can't like see it on the hair, but you can definitely feel it just because you feel it now does not mean you're gon na feel it after I'm gon na. Let my hair dry, I'm gon na go in diffuse and we will see how she looks when she comes back. She'S gon na look pretty crazy, okay, okay, so there you have it now. Maybe this isn't you, but I think we all know a cousin and aunt a mom, a co-worker and a friend that are looking like this when they probably really want to be looking like this in order to have a good wash date, you really need everything to Line up from the wash day to the products, to the application technique, to understanding your ferocity and even the drying techniques which, by the way, is all videos that I have shared before every texture. What'S the right side and the wrong side, I like it locked back what I'm not gon na do is come out of the shower wait: 10 years gallivanting and that's that

Niorina: even the wrong side is still 10x better than my curls lol

Mely-78: Thanks so much Mell! After 40 years walking on this planet and hating my curly hair, you made me like and fall in love with my hair for the first time in my life. In this last 2 weeks since discovering your channel and following your tutorials,I can say that my hair looks bomb.com. And I realized that I wasted so much time and energy to straighten my hair, when in reality I had my pot of gold in top of my head. Ps...hi seester!!

Carmen V: Another great curly hair tutorial, Mel. I have the same hair type as yours. I was lazy today and got my hair to look like a nest. The birds were ready to swoop in on it

Crystal Counterman: Girl, I watch your videos and feel like I'm coming to class completely unprepared. After about 2 minutes in I'm scrambling for a notebook and pen. I didnt know there was so much I needed to know. You are a Godsend!! Thank you!!

Amanda Windham: Thanks for the professional level info and your sense of humor. I'd love to see more on fine curls. So hard to balance frizz reduction, body, definition, and keeping your style intact for more than a minute when each strand is so delicate.

Mykala Castille: I’ve always doubted my hair but Mell spoke to me “fine hair” “curls frizz apart easily” and “fall flat” I watch these videos on repeat and I’m getting close to the perfect hair day

Ruth Kuder: For some reason, everything makes so much more sense when you explain it! Love your videos Mel.

Marias Cakery: Thanks to you, I’ve gone from detesting my curls to loving them. Looking at photos with my hair straight now seems weird! Thank you

Chrystal Thornton: Your bad side is a good side for me. I'm transitioning (4 months) and I'm still amazed I have big curly hair after years of thinking it was straight.

amn0809: Thank you for mentioning us wavies Please more advice for 2a, b, c hair! ❤️

Emily Withers: Love you, Mel! I have had so much more luck with my hair since I started watching your videos! Thanks for sharing your tips and being so thorough in your explanations. Oh, and for making us laugh along the way. You're great! Keep doing you! <3

Anyah M: You have helped my curls so much. I appreciate you Mel! My hair loves to suck up product! Seems to just drink it all in!!! Went to a new hairdresser recently and they were surprised by it too lol. It's like the case of the amazing vanishing products, especially by my curls that grow out of the crown of my head. I've learned to put product on, go to another section, come back and "feel" for it lol. Usually, I have to add more!

Messianic Music: Mel, PLEASE PLEASE do a tutorial with UK curly products! ❤ And thank you so so much for your amazing videos, you've helped me transform from a frizz ball to a curly qween ‍ x Lots of love from the UK and please keep up the good work x

Jessy Boo: Honestly, your videos have helped me sooo much. I got in a car accident and broke the bones in my wrist on my dominant hand. I went from straightening my hair all the time to forced to have my natural curly hair down. And I say forced because I wasn’t even able to put my hair in a ponytail at the time. Thank you so much you’ve made me fall back in love with my curls!

Giada: thank god i found your channel, you’re saving my hair! i have really thick and really long (to my butt) 3a/3b hair but unfortunately since i have colored them they don’t curl up like they used to :( btw you’re so young but you have a lot of experience and i love the way you explain how we should treat our hair, it makes me think i’m talking with a friend (who knows everything about my curly hair). actually i wish i was your friend hahahaha

mt lucchesi: So happy to have discovered your page, I've changed my cream application and added gel too, and the end results were amazing!!✨ Had definition till day 5 which would have been impossible before So thank you very much

Kassandra Romero: Love love love your videos! From going to a bun for years! Literally years! Because I could not style my hair due to all my frizz, to being able to have it down for days! your moisturizing tips and deep conditioning has helped so much! Thank you Mel and your sister Amanda for all of it! I (and my fiancée ) are forever grateful! No more lion’s mane for this girl! ❤️

SiteNo8: This video gave me my best wavy day yet! Thank you for the specifics, such as twisting a lock of hair to judge if you’re using the right amount of product. So clever!

Paola Andrea Barone: My 5 year old daughter and I love watching your videos!!! You are teaching me how to deal with my own hair (my mom did not know what to do with my curls) so I can start teaching my daughter how to deal with her curls and be proud of them. Thank you!!!

Linette Arroyo: I’ve been getting so many compliments on my hair since finding your channel and using your tips! ☺️

smo: You’re the first curly girl with my hair texture AND curl type and your videos are life. I’ve been taming the mane for 30 years and I was today years old when I learned how to properly style my curls for a beautiful frizz-free look. You’re amazing - keep them coming! Thank you, gorgeous!

Astriddd E: You’re one of the few people I don’t get bored watching when I need information about my hair :((

Wendy Sue: Even your "bad" side looks good! Thank you for this. I am always afraid I'm going to use too much product, and usually fall short.

Nicole Joy: So happy I found your channel!!! I have recently been trying the curly girl method and been in general trying to understand my hair and the curls more. I have definitely been guilty of the scrunch and go and all I’m left with is crunchy wet looking hair all day. I picked up some new products based on your suggestions for what might help the curls and I cannot wait to try them out!! Thank you thank you!!!!!

Nice Girl Jenn: I had to rewatch. I actually thought I was doing fine! I am almost 5mths into my curly hair journey and after watching this... DEF my hair is looking better!

Zoe Murphy: I wanted to say thank you. I have been struggling with what is the right amount of product in my hair but seeing you do the twist thingy was exactly what i needed. Awesome x

Sheri: You're such a great hair coach! Thanks for the reliable information! You offer the best curly hair tips I've seen on YouTube.

Génesis León: I'm a fan! I feel so grateful for found you on this youtube world of curly girl method girls that never really teach you. I find your content SO educational and saved me from the pressure and crazines of CGM. I'm so glad that I can learn, laugh and realize that I gotta have fun with my hair and listen to it. Thank you, Greetings from latin america.

Joanna Kasperek: This is that one tutorial everyone transitioning should watch FIRST. I love all the routine vids here and by other people, but the truth is those are their routines. Even if someone's hair is similar to ours we need to figure out what amounts and types suit our very own hair. Thank you :)

Viv Hazelrigg: The joy Mell gets from the squish of her hair is on a whole other level. My heart is telling me that I need to find something that simple that gives me that much happiness.

sailor becky: You literally give good tips and it works so good on my hair. For sooo many years I was taught to put product in drenching wet hair which is why I would give up on my hair. I started wrenching just a bit of water out of my hair first and then applying product. Turns out it dries so much faster and looks better !?!? Thank you so much. ❤️

Chantelle Berotte: I freakin love you !! So informative but funny too ❤ starting my curly hair journey 6 weeks without straightening my hair and you have helped me so much. Thank you and keep doing you. You are fab

Kimberly O'Brien: I love your videos. No offense to the other youtubers but you're the first one that I find that isn't self absorbed annoying. You give the best tips not because you want the game but because you are so passionate about curly hair! You're doing a great job keep it up!

lee: Bless you Mel omg! I’ve been using products in the wrong way all my life, thanks for sharing this

Christy: I’m such a curly girl slacker! I’m learning though. I recently found your channel and truly appreciate you sharing your wisdom. I have super course, thick wavy/curly hair and I can’t stand not washing my hair every day. So I’m watching for tips to help my daily washing. Thanks again for the help!

Ashleigh H: Girl, you need a new YouTube name...Curly Hair Whisperer Every time my hair is not doing what it’s suppose to, you always lead me back to the truth: -don’t half a$$ your wash day and product application -make sure your hair isn’t dry or drenched when applying products Your hair advice is probably the only one that actually gives me big results!

Alexa Lachaine: Hi Mell, I found your channel randomly and THANK GOD! I've been struggling with my hair forever trying to keep in natural against everything and I was never able to find real concrete informations and educational content until you! You're amazing, thank you for all the time and energy you're putting into this! Love your sense of humour and professionalism. I'm actually thinking about doing the 6 hours drive from Montréal to make an appointment with you when my hair will be long enough (I shaved it in February).I was also wondering if you were planning on doing a video about short hair? Anyways, to stop the rambeling, thank you and your seester ;)

lisa2: Thank you for this! I rationalize not using enough product bc I hate the heavy, sticky feeling & that scalp itch. My hair always ends up looking like your right side but not anymore!

Mary Clubb: I have very heavy, very coarse, wavy-curly hair (2c-3a). Once I rinse out my conditioner, I absolutely cannot pull my curls in any way or else they stretch out too much and frizz up. I know "just scrunching" in product is supposed to be "bad" now, but it's literally the only thing that works for me. I can't use praying hands, raking, or finger coiling. Instead I kind of pat the product all over my head, and scrunch away. Do's and don'ts of curly hair are helpful, don't get me wrong, but I really think it's all about finding what works best for YOU. If you're trying a method that is supposed to be a "do" and it's not working or you don't like the result, do it how you think looks best! As long as you're taking care of your hair's health, you do you boo boo!

Ivette Baeza: Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. I got my curly textured hair from my momma and I was never taught the right things to do with my hair. I felt pretty embarrassed growing up because I kept using a curling iron to control my frizz. It was seriously damaging my hair. Now I’ve discovered a few things here & their such as product, washing, and brushing. Then, I literally YouTubed styling curly hair & I discovered your channel. I’m so happy for getting all my questions answered & I’ll start doing your advice Thank you

Lauren Ashley: The tip on applying the amount that is the size of the hair is genius! It helped me SO much after this long with natural hair, I never heard that tip before! It has really helped me! Thank you!

Robbin: Gah!!! I literally did everything on the don’t side this morning. Results are accurate , I walked around with don’t hair today. Thanks so much for this amazing video!!! Fixing this stat.

Kathy Candler: I've JUST started embracing my curls. I'm so glad I found your videos. I was/am doing everything wrong. My hair looks like the left side today and now I understand why. At least, I learned how to diffuse my hair correctly thanks to your other video.

Laura Campbell: You have helped me so much with my curls. This week was the first time in the 6 months I've been taking care of my hair that I was able to get 3 days out of my wash day. I'm loving all of your tips and tricks! Keep it up.

Tyra W: Who knew all I had to do was use ✨more✨ product to make my curls pop?? I thought more would just weigh my hair down... 23 years into this life and I’m just figuring this out lol ugh... Shoutout to Mell for saving my curls

Justine Swindell: Thanks for taking the time to make this Mel. Appreciate you!!❤️❤️

Juniperus Godegara: Mell is SO engaging! It's her personality. I've watched it through and don't even have curly hair..

Christy Can Cook: ALWAYS so much good info!! Thanks! I'm 46 and still learning about my curls!!

Anugita: Thank you so much <3 <3 I just realized why I get frizz... As a wavy, I need to do it damp styling, but I might have waited too long, making it too dry, and not distributing the products the correct way, I have been just scrunching.. And maybe used to little product... Now I will test a bit wetter hair, raking all the products through, making sure its enough... Promise to come back with an update after following this video next washday :) Update: Sadly didn't work :( Same frizzy undefined flat hair... Even less curls than normal....

Rachel W: Wow Mell, you're so informative!!! I've been on the fence about getting a denman brush since I always heard not to use a brush/comb on my hair.... but after seeing great results on so many people I'm gonna give it a try! Thanks so much for your insight! <3

Kristinnuendo: I was introduced to your channel last night and I’m glad I was. I’m going to try your techniques because I have always struggled with my hair being less curly and have less volume at the root. It is my biggest frustration I have hair similar to Amanda’s, but the bottom of it is like yours, full of tight ringlets. I desperately need help with the first 3-4 inches from my scalp. I even bought some alligator clips to try and pin the roots to force volume

Michael Cumberbatch: OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!! ☺️ My hair has volume but is frizzy almost all the time. Now I don’t have to worry about smoothing the frizz down.

Jessi Ca: Oh lord, lovely Mel - you saved my whole hair life with this video. And no, I didn't apply enough product in the past. But I did it today like you in the video - and badaboom, I love the result so much!

canon976: absolutely love seeing these side by side comparison videos!

jeffsycks: Oh Mell! I love your DON’T!!! It is so FULL!!!! So “fluffy”! So GORGEOUS!!! I would love to see it twice as long, and even more fluffy! You are so beautiful, so pretty! You steal my eyes and my heart! Thank you for your video!!!

hana —: Hey Mel, I really hope you reply to this bc this problem has been driving me crazy. What do you do if the curls themselves after being just washed are kinda frizzy? Like there is a curl clump and then hairs just kinda sticking out from it and not joining the clump?

Jessie Andrews: Not enough product - and lazily applied in patches, has definitely been my biggest problem. So looking forward to wash day this evening now!

Amy Shults: I wish I could make my curls look half as good as the bad side!

Kelsey Schrempp: You are awesome Mell! The last year I have had to have my hair in a bun for school, but now with quarantine I’m getting back to taking care of my curls. Your methods have always worked for me so I had to catch up on all your videos. I just love how spunky you are while giving me some great information! Are you going to stop using Devacurl after the lawsuit that came out? And have you touched on sweaty gym hair? I’ve been trying to workout more in quarantine but my head is so sweaty afterward especially with it being summer in Southern California. I’ve been cleansing with a cleansing conditioner after each workout, but is it damaging getting my hair wet everyday? Are there any other options for getting rid of sweaty gym hair?

Ericka Lewis: Girl you just taught a black girl how to do her hair . Thank you this has helped me so much.

Kate Z: Wow!!! I’ve definitely been applying all my product wrong! Thanks for another amazing video ❤️

Simone Alana: That is me on the left. I am going to go through all of your tutorials and I am going to try them! Mine lacks moisture and definition. I can't wait to get it right. Thanks for sharing these tips x

Kare: I would love to see a video with advice for people trying to embrace their curls for the first time. I haven’t worn my curly hair down since I was a little girl, I always just throw it up in a braid or bun. I don’t even know where to begin with my hair. I think my hair is like a 3A but I’m not totally sure.

Alexandra M.: You've taught me so much that when I watch your videos now, they're just a reassurance that I'm doing my hair rightThanks for all the info!!!

Chelsea Thorne: I'm just starting my natural wavy hair journey and I'm having this exact dilemma of not knowing how much product to apply. Thanks for making this video! And thanks for making all the videos you have because I binged watched all of them and started my natural hair journey! I even just uploaded my own video showing my routine this week! So excited to continue watching your vids and learning more!

Keira Barrett: Hi Mell, I love your videos. You are really good explaining concepts and techniques and you also get to the point and stay on track which is the reason why I continuously watch your videos over others :) I've tried in the past to have a strong curly hair regimen but never fully committed. Now, I am transitioning into a thorough and committed routine, much with your guidance. My main issue is that the outer layer of my hair flattens outs quickly in the day. My roots seem to be weighed down and have no volume while the rest of my hair is thick and voluminous. The under layers are really curly - lots of tight ringlets! what the hell am I doing wrong?!

Mayara Chrisostomo: I'm so glad to have received this tips! Thank u so much! I have got 2a/2b wavy hair e this made it super defined and soft!

Peace: Love your videos. Not only informative but fun to watch. I began my curly hair journey 6 months after 40 years of trying to wear it straight). I began my journey with dyed, highlighted with bleach, a supposedly Botox treatment that was to remove frizz and not the curl, and not to forget I’m 99% grey (started getting gray at 14). The supposedly Botox treatment (the Botox was about a 1 1/2 yrs ago) stripped most of my haircolor - from light brown to a horrible light orange blond and left my hair with no curl. Then it began breaking at the ends. I decided not to do the big chop and cut 1/2 inch every couple of months. I began with hair almost halfway down my back. It’s now a couple of inches under my shoulders. I have thick, course, dry high porosity hair. After watching MANY curly hair videos, trying many products, going to a Miami Deva Curl Salon, two local curly hair salons, I finally found what works in South Florida weather (humidity in the 90s). To help the damage I did the Olaplex 1 and 2 treatment at home. I used the Hot Heads bonnet and a plastic cap underneath for the 20 minutes suggested. Bought the DevaCurl No Poo Original conditioning cleanser and One Conditioner original. I just use the cleanser on my roots and any runoff for the rest followed by the conditioner beginning from just below my roots and raking and squeezing in my hair. I rinse with the coolest water I can stand and leave a little on. NOW what worked for me is not squeeze the water for my hair with a regular towel just blot with a t-shirt. I comb my hair carefully and section my hair beginning at the bottom. I add water to make it almost soaking wet and then a quarter size amount of Biotera alcohol free defining gel and rake it through and then comb it through. I make sure I have enough in from roots to end to get a good slip and no frizzes and per on of Mel’s video I further section vertically to get more volume at the roots and finger coil. I continue sectioning around my head about 1 inch at a time and repeating. THE KEY IS TO HAVE THE HAIR ALMOST SOAKING WET BEFORE APPLYING A GENEROUS AMOUNT OF GEL. Love this gel. Never leaves it hard but keeps the curl defined. Once whole head is done I take a bit more gel with a some water on the palm of my hand and scrunch it on my ends and little bit more gel on the roots (these are the areas that ten to frizz). Now I do not touch again and let air dry until end are pretty much dry and diffuse with hot air on medium setting the roots only pointing from top down (another suggestion on one of Mel’s video). I do not put my head down facing the floor because I have vertigo. I do move it from the side to side while diffusing to get some volume at the roots and a couple of clips on the front roots for volume. I end up with shiny frizz free soft defined curls that last 4 days or more. I get lots of compliments. To keep the curls frizz free I sleep on a satin pillow case and put my hair gently up so only the bottom hair is on the pillowcase. That includes the sides. This gives you additional volume at the roots. Again I am barely touching my hair. Maybe gently splitting up some curls. I tried numerous times until I found out what was the correct amount of gel for me. Which is substantial. It’s trial and error. BTW I did us the DevaCurl gel soft hold and the stronger hold but I felt it made my hair dry. It has protein. I just needed moisture. I tried many leave ins for moisture, definition, etc. They didn’t work for me. I felt they coated the hair but did not give me moisture and my hair frizzed the next day. ONLY WATER GIVES MOISTURE. I now bought the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner which continue to help the damage and makes my hair soft right out of the shower and do the Olaplex treatment 1 and 2 every month. I do rinse out the Olaplex conditioner and apply the DevaCurl one conditioner original like stated previously. I know I wrote a lot but I hope it helps someone.

MrsHNKeller: My girl Mell, you are always the best! Information and entertainment all in one! 1. Hair must he wet enough, but not sopping, sloppy wet. 2. Leave in conditioner. 3. Styling product. 4. Gel. 5. Diffuse. How'd I do? Got it? ❤

Tonya Sepulveda: Great information! I loved the example of how to determine how much product to use. That was always a question mark for me and my daughter! Love the videos!

Asher Wurst: Hey Mell, how would you recommend I measure product amounts for my waist-length hair? Would it the same method or a different one?

SweetPotatoPie: Your channel has been a game changer for my curly mane! Thank you so much❤

debbiefloss99: I loved both sides great tips as always Mel thanks I love a mousse and a gel with a little leave in conditioner to scrunch out the crunch cause without a strong gel hold after drying my curls just don’t stay

Nada Mohammad: You’re amazing Mell!!!! Thank you for the amazing videos and tips. I will try this cuz whatever I do I always look like the left side and I didn’t know what was wrong

Scharlie Jeffcoat: Mel you have helped me absolutely TRANSFORM my hair routine and my love for my curls! thank you so much!!!

C V: Hey Mell! Have you ever used this styling combo? : Mixed Chicks leave in conditioner + Kinky Curly Curling Custard? I had it used on my hair once way back at a Salon in Toronto and no other combination has ever created such amazing results in my hair no matter what else I've tried (I have very fine curls that crave volume).

Heidi Baltom: I have learnt so much more from you in a few videos than i have watching loads of other peoples videos. I love that youactually explain why you need to do it as well. Which i find really helpful. Thankyou you are a great teacher.

Ursula: I'm not one to comment online but you are my savior!!! I've struggled with my curly hair since forever... Growing up I'd have my mom spend hours straightening my hair, and as a young adult I'd chemically straighten it. If this pandemic has had one silver lining it's been finally having the time to educate myself on how to treat my curls. My hair now looks absolutely gorgeous. Today I finally completed my routine with a gel and oil and I look like I've just had my hair done professionally. Thank you so so much for everything you do!!!!

Ina: I love this channel so much, i can't even express it enough, thanks for all the information and demonstrations!

Gail Rose: Thank you! Your videos have helped me so much to resurrect my curls in the last 6 months. I have a kind of unusual question and I’ve searched for years on how to find the answer: My curl pattern is much like yours but my hair is shoulder length. I’m old, and my hair is ‘old lady white’ which looks fine in winter. But I have a convertible and it’s really messing my hair up every summer. It gets dry and tangled. I wear a wide brimmed hat when the top is down (a scarf flattens it). I need to protect it without it looking greasy. I’ve tried everything. Please help.

Teresa B: I’m learning so much, embracing my curls! Thank you!

Michelle Haftar: Your "bad" side still looks good, but the "good" side is great! The tip to guesstimate how much product to use looks really helpful. I have lower density and I'm not as curly, and never know how much to use. I either go too much or too little. Especially since the bleached strands of my hair are much drier than the non-bleached areas. Looking forward to my first appointment with you this weekend!

Soup444: Curious about the brush. I feel like my whole life, a brush was always on the “don’t” list. I only use my fingers, so I’m curious to try it!

frenchie girl in the usa: Mell, I know this sounds crazy, but I like my soaking wet. When I hear the squish sound I know the leave-in is in the hair. I add the gel then squish my hair let it air dry I live in south Florida and its freaking hot so I take advantage of the heat. By the time I get to work by 10 am my hair is completely dry. I get great curls and this method works for me.

Joanie Greene: I totally love your videos. They are so educational and straight to the point. Everything is realistic and practical. Keep them coming!!!

Raquel Cadena: !! I’m new here and I’m learning a bunch of new things today!! while watching the do’s and donts of diffusing I was applying my DC, then watched this video and went to apply product. Since I rushed to apply my leave in I only watch Half part, so I committed a mistake in the styler part but that’s ok, I’m learning, this is my first time following this and first time I diffuse and I can’t believe the whole world I was missing

Heidi Ullrich: I've been watching and following curly girls who literally apply product to sopping wet hair, and then adding more water. My results are less than stellar. Going to try your way and see how it goes!

Manuela Montoya: My hair looks exactly like your not side so I clicked on your video right away and I just realized I’ve been doing 80% of those things I can’t wait to try out these techniques .

_lala_: Mell help! I have a question on hair fall, honestly how much is too much? I only finger through/comb once or twice a week on wash days, and seem to have a mess of hair coming out when I do. Should I be combing more? Is there a way to reduce hair fall?

ScorpZero: Thank you, Mel! I’ve been learning so much from you on my journey.

Ceri: Thank you so much! I've been struggling with this for YEARS ever since I even started caring about how to take care of my curly hair. I still struggle with adding too much product on refresh days (my hair frizzes up like CRAZY no matter what) but I feel that this particular video might also help with that.

Julia Dullius Oliveira: Love your videos! Please show us your hair moisturizing routine (how often, which kind of products you use, how long we should wait with the product on our hair, etc). Thank you!

Meg Burrough: Mel I have watched alot of videos and learnt alot! I am only 3 months in to taking better care of my hair and loving it (finally!). I have been trying a small variety of affordable products in the UK but I have noticed that my hair seems to require loads of product.... even thick gel it just seems to absorb it or it disappears... so my products aren't lasting long! I was putting this down to porosity? But I am still confused as my hair has a whole.load of different characteristics!!! minefield hopefully I will find products and balance of use to make my hair super happy! thank you for all your help, love Amanda's and your hair so much it makes me hopeful.

Mearaid Stevenson-Hock: Thank you, thank you, thank you! I DON’T need handfuls of product on my fine, thin hair. Game changer.

Haha cool: This was so helpful to hear! Cuz I’ve been having frizz all the time!no matter how hard I try on my hair So ima use this info and see if this will help!

Marvi Gonzalez: This video helped me like crazy! My hair looks so moisturized ! Thanks!

Lesley Weaver: Never knew the thing about cupping your hair to determine how much product to use!!! #MindBlown How much product should you use if you have to section your hair to apply products?

PPPPanda: I love your vids! Been doing CGM for almost a month and I have so much to learn. Thanks for all your informative videos! From Philippines

Denise Rispens: This is the video I’ve been waiting for thanks girl you the curly hair mvp Question: for the amount of gel do I use the same amount/measuring technique you used for the cream?

Violet Polack: Would love to see more videos on wavy hair.
