Thanks for watching!

Alright guys, I was asked to do a video about ingredients and specifically in relation to this article and this, this video, but I've also been kind of garaged with a couple of videos about throwing away brands right, and this is happening year after year. So today, as I say in the country, we gon na get some straightening first, let's address the idea of throwing out brands because of the ingredients and then we'll move on to the article, because I'm going to do exactly what the person asked so for my notification, Gang for my bonus clip crew. What is my mantra when it comes to your hair products? What is my mantra? Write it below. So a lot of these videos, the women started out by saying I've been using this product for a while. I'Ve been using this product for years, and I didn't know till now that these ingredients did this, and these ingredients did that and I think that's the biggest failing honestly, you should know what you're putting on your body just as much as what you're putting in your Body right, no one needs to tell that to you. Why? Because we have this thing called the Google and the Google is so easy to use. It is so easy to learn what ingredients do in your products. Now, if you watch a video and someone talks about ingredients like and what they do - and there is no receipts there is no article listed, then you know you need to go to the Google yourself and be like. Is this true? Well, maybe it'll. Take you a moment to dig through the rabbit-hole that is the internet, but guess what it's easy. It'S there it's available. There have been people educating for years here on YouTube about what ingredients do right and now, let's talk, take some some, some simple ones, ones that a lot of people come at me about. Let'S start with te a right. Let'S start with that one, I haven't asked about that one so many times, because I do use some gels that have te a in them, but guess what I know fully. What te a does I'm not concerned - and you know I couldn't leave links for you guys, but I'm not doing that because that's not that's not what this video is about. If you want a full video on any of these topics, write in the comments box below but te a right. There is TAS horrible in many cases, but but what people fail to realize is what they fail to. Research is the fact the what is used in hair products is cosmetic grade te a right cosmetic grade. If you look at the research, it shows they've done. Research on cosmetic grade te, a right within particular parameters, they've done the research and guess what it's fine! It'S fine to use on your hair. If you have issues with using synthetic ingredients, then, okay, it's not fine right. If you do the research you're like, I don't want to take the chance and don't do it don't use it. I respect so many people here on YouTube who say I don't want to use any of these synthetic chemicals, and so they make their own products right or they go and seek out the brands that don't have all these synthetic chemicals and there are brands. I rep two of them on the regular and I wrap them on purpose. I rep them because they are vegan and vegetarian friendly right. They are great brands and that don't have a lot of crap in them. Their labels are easily readable. I rep those brands on purpose because those are ones that I do not feel any guilt about repping right right. I make the choice to use products that contain synthetic ingredients, but I don't always recommend them. I don't I review them, but when people ask me what products to use nine times out of ten, I don't recommend those products, because I am using them fully aware of. What'S in them, I don't think that everyone does and though therefore, I'm gon na recommend products that I know are mostly natural and I do that very very intentionally, and then we have parabens parabens, there's another one parent. You know I get what you guys like. I do try to avoid parabens, but I'm not a fanatic about it, and so I can get with you guys on that. But in the end, and if you're not avoiding certain ingredients in what you put in your body, mix me with the ones you're putting on top of your body right. There are a lot of people out here. Who will try to just I'm telling you guys, you guys, don't see my inbox, you don't see my dims that come for me about using products with certain ingredients, but then they can't tell me why they don't use them. They don't use them because another youtuber said this. One is bad. That'S not a good reason to me like if you say I don't use te a because in certain quantities it is known to do this and I don't want to take the chance fully respect that fully respect that I'm not gon na argue with you. I could say back to you, I know as well about this research and I ain't still choose to use products containing te a, and I expect you to respect that, because that is how you have civil discourse right. If you're throwing away whole brands that you've been using for years, because you just realized the what ingredients are in there, then you've got a lot more research to do a lot more because a lot of these natural things that people use can also turn into these Ingredients, a lot of these synthetic chemicals are mirrors of natural ingredients. Right. I think people miss that you know you cook certain ingredients to certain levels and they become other things right ingredients, trans form, silicones are just a synthetic version of oils right oils. A lot of oils would heat it to a certain point, become something totally different and some heat it to a certain point can become toxic. But I know that through education right. I understand that because on my mantra, which someone will leave in the comments box below and we'll all like it and favorite it, so you know, but I encourage you to learn what's in your hair products and then use them accordingly. I do tip Tuesday to try to help people understand their hair, but I'm not a substitute for you doing your own research and with the Google, all things impossible. What you do is you go find websites by people who actually sites journals, peer-reviewed things. That is what you go. Do you don't just go to a website and say: oh they're, right, because anyone can become an expert. You know Wikipedia is not a reliable source, it has not been since its beginning. It is not a source that is above scrutiny right. It'S not peer review is written by whoever decides that day to sit down and write about this subject. It is not a reliable source fact of the matter is there is not a lot of research in the way of black hair care, there's not so cool. It'S! It'S not a huge bit of stuff that you got to sift through. It'S not now. Let'S go straight to this article because I feel like that was a very long intro. Let'S go straight to this video, an article and I'll leave a link to the video below. I will leave that so this is a report done by the Silent Spring Institute right. They did a research and they put out this report, and then you have this BBC news anchor talking with a representative of that company, as well as a black hair care, blogger and author. Nothing wrong with all that. But as with all things, when you are looking and weeding at things that are reported, you have to look at the slant right. What is the slant here right? What is this? What is this organization getting out of it? Is it just a research based organization, or is it getting something out of this? Well, if you go to the bottom of this article, we're gon na start here, it says for more tips on reducing exposure to harmful chemicals and personal care products and more download detox me silent, Springs, free mobile, app for healthier living they're. Getting something out of this right, the black woman on this video in the end promotes her book and I'm not saying that what they're saying is not valid, but I'm saying you need to investigate from all angles. So that's the first thing: what are you getting out of it right, they're, getting you to download something, they're, getting funding, etc, right, there's something they're getting out of it to look at the sample right. The study looked at 18 different hair products, including hot oil treatments empty for his hair, polishers leave-in conditioners, root, stimulators, hair lotions and hair relaxers, big red flag, big red flag, hair relaxers in the same category as all these other products, the other products aren't going to Come out good if you're putting them all together, hair relaxers are toxic, like we know, they're toxic, great there's, no two ways about that. People know that they just choose to use a relaxer anyway, but they know that there tons of studies - and we know it's toxic - it freakin burns your scalp. We know it's toxic, but when you put hair relaxers in there with these other things and you're only looking at 18 products in my mind, nah I need I need a bigger sample. I need some categories: no, no, okay! So we're looking at the sample size right. Although the chemicals detected in the new study are not unique to hair products used by black women, they're not unique to our products, the levels measured, we're generally in the higher range compared with other hair products. The chemicals can be found in other personal care products. So what they're concluding they're saying is this ain't just for concerned with black women? Yet the slate of this article is straight of black women. Just probably a reason for that right, there's probably a reason for that and then and then the kicker. When you listen to the interview of the person from Silent Spring, they say that what they found the harmful ingredients they found weren't listed on the labels right. So people are arguing about ingredient center on the label and this study is not even referencing those ingredients, which is an issue right that isn't issue these mylar supposed to live everything on the ingredients label right. So if it's not there, that's something. I should really look into that's something I want to fight. If it's not there, I can't be using something with an informed viewpoint, so that does bother me in that. What is what this should have been about? Honestly, that's what this should have been about, not creating a slant for a reason right. They want to do more research, which is great, do more research and come back to the drawing table. That'S what I want you to do now, I'm not thrown at my products for nobody cuz. I use products in with an informed viewpoint, so I ain't doing that, but you you can do that if you want to, I encourage you to use more natural things. Our environment needs that I'm not about to get on my soapbox, but I encourage you to do that. Our planet needs us to use less synthetic things. It does at the same time, I'm not gon na knock you for doing what you want to do. I'M not gon na say, don't use this, don't do that and I'm not gon na come on here and bash a whole brand for any ingredients they're using they're in the norm, because most of them are using bases in the norm of most haircare products. Right. I'M fully fully fully respected women who choose to use only products with natural ingredients. I respect you, I really do and to be honest, if I wasn't a youtuber, if I wasn't trying out a bunch of stuff, I would use solely probably all in hand. Mate Camille Rose and actual is the main choice, like any brands along those lines, because I just think they work best for my hair and guess what those products are vegan products for the most part right and they're black comb brands, which is another thing that I Stand behind and try to stand for Stan St an4 right until I get to the point where I decided that I only want to use those brands, I'm gon na keep using the other brands and I'm okay with that. If they have an adverse effect on my scalp on my face on something along those lines, I surely will stop using them, but at this point that hasn't happened. So I'm good. Are you until the next video? Let'S continue the conversation in the comments box below this? Was somewhat of a stream of consciousness? I hope it made sense, and let me know if there are any other videos. You want me to do as a result of this one, and I will so until the next time check me out on Instagram and thanks for watching guys.

ALove4Me: Who know's my product label mantra?

Julia Elaine: First of all, people didn’t start looking up ingredients to haircare products until the natural hair movement started. It’s said that grease is bad for natural hair but I bet if you looked back at your childhood photos your hair was long and healthy and I bet your mom used blue magic on your hair and your hair did just fine! This is a tactic used to spend your money on natural hair products that costs an arm and leg. If silicones, petroleum, or anything else that we consider “bad” works for your then use it! Don’t get me wrong, I love clean natural hair products just like the next person but do you boo...do you.

Gillian Nichole: Do your research. All natural isn't perfect either. Remember folks, poison ivy is natural & some of us are allergic to tree nuts like macadamia nut found in some Camille Rose products. Not everyone can afford to spend 25$ every month on berries & juices. Do what works for you.

Connie Joi: I personally had no say in the chemicals put in my hair as a child so it's not necessarily appropriate to say it's someone else's own fault for not being aware of the components in a particular hair product. When I was growing up there were very few girls with natural hair, EVERYONE had relaxed hair and got their touch ups literally every 6-8 weeks. Every single one of my five grade school friends had relaxers. We were children when our parents began relaxing our hair and using harsh shampoos, and conditioners ect. This is something that alot of us were raised on and didn't question because we were children and we weren't taught how to love or care for our natural hair, we were taught how to tame it ONLY.

SaintHannahs: Love Camille Rose for their ingredients. “Know your ingredients.” You made some strong points. We all have a responsibility to research what we put on our face, hair, and the rest of our skin. This includes makeup, deodorant, hair products, etc.

WitsNSass: The researcher had a valid point about "fragrance", though. It's not illegal not to disclose the actual ingredients that make up a fragrance, and that's for all cosmetic products, not just those marketed to Black people. It is; however, a giant loophole that certain groups have been lobbying to get better disclosure. Sadly, it's a very similar loophole used by the food industry - "natural and artificial flavorings/flavors" is another thing that gets to fly under the radar in terms of ingredients lists.

Katherine Miller: I % My issue with the call for canceling a brand because of the harmful ingredients is that people often jump on the bandwagon and join the witch hunt because of their "relationship" with the YouTuber, not because they did their own research. I've viewed videos making compelling arguments for both sides, with the content creator encouraging people to do their own research and then come to their own conclusions. That I can respect. When I see followers of a particular influencer attack commenters simply for expressing opposing views, I cringe. The cult of personality within the natural hair community concerns me.

Catrice .Taylor: I'm happy they did this study, but there are some red flags about it. Not only is the sample size too small, but the way they chose the sample is flawed as well. You can't choose a sample based on a small set of people and think you're gonna get substantial results. Also they really needed to identify who these products were marketed to specifically (relaxed, natural, heat styled). These things matter.

Nikki: I’m with you sis!! I used to be on the all natural hair products kick for years. Now I just use what’s best for me and my hair. Sometimes those “unnatural” ingredients just agree with my type hair better.‍♀️ Thanks so much for your very informative thoughts on this subject!! I always feel like I’m headed to class whenever you post a video!!‍ Great job!

Taneaka Tillman: Yesss do your own research for your OWN hair you can't just roll with what one person say. Thanks for bringing awareness to this :)XO

Angus Orvid: I agree. I know women who went natural and they said they started to feel a lot healthier. They put so many dangerous chemicals in those products, and it's impossible to have a conversation about black health in our community without addressing this. Thank you for bringing it up. It needs to be discussed. Black women don't need to be doing this to their hair. They are beautiful as they are.

Renee Johnson: Know your ingredients! Do your own research! Simple as that. If you don’t want to use certain ingredients don’t use them. If they’re found in certain products then that’s your choice to cancel that product line. Me? I’m using what works for my hair but I am also moving towards black owned businesses with natural ingredients!

Esther Kentish: I have been waiting for someone in the natural hair community to talk about peer-reviewed sources and research for Black Hair care.

Dr. Michelle Daf: Loved this video! Straight facts. Thank you for breaking it down. There’s so much that go over our head (no pun intended) ☺️

Naturally Lisa: Thank you for sharing this. Your skin is glowing. "Know your ingredients!"

SpicyNerd: This video was on time. Thank you!!!!❤️I loved how you revealed the holes in that article I was thinking the same thing. I know there are varying opinions and that is ok but I refuse to be afraid of an ingredient with out research. I have learned that SOMETIMES people get alarmed over misinformation that spread like wild fire and get mad at you for not following suit. I seriously crack up when they turn around and use Makeup with the same ingredients they are ranting about on their face EVERYDAY. And God forbid if you tell them about it Fire and Brimstone. Ask me how I know. Smh I am still new to formulating my own hair products with mostly natural ingredients and ingredients I once was told it was devil I found it was not.

Julianne Gasteiger: Yes! This video made me a subscriber! Thank you! Educate yourselves. People are too quick to take everything they see and hear and run with it, without actually understanding. Heck, without even finishing it. We are living in a world of read the headline and repeat as facts and knowledge. Do better feel for you. Make choices based on thorough research and information. If after all that you’re still not sure on the best course of action , that’s ok too. At least your are starting from an educated perspective. Google is your friend, and she is free!

The Odyssey Within: Thanks for the video! It's a reminder to look into things. I use to hear not to use Vaseline but...its been around for yrs, never heard it caused an issue but i hear not to use it( keeps your skin looking youthful) or about hair grease. But then theres baby powder thats also been out n its said it causes cancer. So i definitely agree with research n i also think sometimes people want others to stop using one thing to promote something else.

Karen Reeves: Know your ingredients! Hair relaxers are in a category by themselves. I am sure the ingredients they are focusing on are across the board in many many products used by more than just black women. Unless you are using vegan or all natural products (not just hair care) the synthetic ingredients are too numerous to name. What bothered me is they never said which brands they tested and the ingredients that are not even listed on the label. I think they should have disclosed those. The article is very incomplete, it just panics people. I am not sure if they said these were preliminary results; they should be saying stay tuned for more in depth results from the next phase of our research. Love the conversation and your passion.

Nicky O: I really enjoyed this and agree with your mantra "know your ingredients". I'm not about jumping on the band wagon I'm about researching and driving my own hair journey. Great video!

psr076: Great video ! Yes I agree with need to do our research and know the ingredients.

Nyemba CN: And yes the article should have mentionned the unlisted ingredients

my opinion: Some ingredients can be bad(even the ones we used as children) they can work for a short term but pick those same products up and try using them long term they don't work anymore and there is a reason... the fact that seeing people like Kenya Moore or Beyonce with long hair that it's so shocking that it must be fake ... speaks volumes something isn't RIGHT .. 90% of the people who sale black hair products are asian white or Indian.. do you think they care about your hair or know what actually is going on nope ... but hey that's just one struggle grower opinion

Over45 Nearly50: Thank you thank you thank you for coming up with this argument. 1. Look whose talking. 2. What’s their agenda. 3. Suddenly they are interested in our hair and health. 4. Where were they all these years. I think there’s somebody behind all this who want to collect our coins here in Uk. 5. That blogger is not that big I been to her channel she doesn’t have much though. ( not my main point ).6. Commercially somebody is creating a brand targeted to us black people to buy. 7. Some day you will hear American products banned in Uk . 8. They realised black people have become very educated, knowledgeable, highly informed and enterprising. 9. Did you know they’ve banned certain black cosmetics into Uk . Watch the space. Why now when we are rocking our hair in our own standards

Cara Downey: thanks for posting this video... Lawd, let me tell you I'm getting annoyed with videos talking about cancelling eco styler etc etc etc... I do research on products I put in my hair. I'll be honest, I've been relaxing my hair for years and I recently went natural eg. almost 2yrs ago. So yes, I do use vegan products and products that contain tea etc etc etc but as you stated... do your research and know what the heck is in your products.

Milissa Richards: I'm 2 years natural when I went natural it was because of a personal reason. I had no idea about natural hair i just used to come on YouTube and followed what everyone was doing until I found your channel. Because right about now I have no idea what is t.e.a. or even the video you mentioned about BBC. What i often do is check out the links you have in the box down below. Thanks for sharing and I'm grateful for your information because you've helped me to learn more about ingredients in these products. I'm going to be honest I'm one of those people who are never going to do in-depth research on natural hair and that is why I watch your videos and i can't thank you enough. People who are coming at you are those who really don't know your channel because if they knew you then they wouldn't be coming at you.

Nicole Allen: Good educational video! I love how honest you are! I totally agree with you! I am not throwing out products that work well on my hair and that doesn't affect me. I will be even more conscious of what l am putting in my hair. Anyway l saw the interview with the Silent Spring Institute. TFS!

Olivia N. Matthew: I'm coming to realize a lot of these hair care products aren't vegan. Know your ingredients! I find myself having to ask questions. Some naturals products contains animal-derived ingredients like honey, beeswax, silk, keratin etc. Which I try not consume for ethical reasons. What put me off recently is when I asked a Camille Rose rep if the exclusive lavender collection sold by curlbox was all vegan and they said i should be fine with it. Come to find out that it wasn't. It really got me wondering if they truly care about the consumer or just to make money.... if they keep acting like this, Camille Rose is about to be #cancelled lol

Gem Floral: This is why I love your channel~ Came right on time...I recently saw a video talking about ECO STYLER GEL and the harmful ingredients. (which btw isn't surprising) ^^ 6:06

Daria Pio: 'With the Google all things are possible' Love it...accountability, do your own research and civil discourse!

chatamoment02: I just wanna say I’m relaxed but love your channel. My main problem is that most people who come at me about ingredients I see rolling up to fast food joints on the regular.

Faithfully_Melanie: Thank you for doing this educational segment because I was getting sick and tired of all of videos titled Eco is canceled

MyNaturalMyChoice: Excellent video and well said. Thanks for sharing.

Nap Freedom215: Love your channel and knowledge! Camille Rose and Oyin Handmade(haven't tried yet, but soon). Camille Rose is my heart now, thanking you for that!

Najee Basheer: What’s sad is that most people are going to react in the same way to this video as they did to the others. They are not going to do any research to verify what you said, just like they didn’t do any to verify what the other people said. You can tell by the comments that they are so relieved that you are not throwing out the products and that’s all they need to hear so they can keep all their beloved products as well. Chris is going to have to do another film showing ECO dissolving a can and then maybe, just maybe...

THE RETIRED AND WISE BEYOND MY YEARS NYPD SERGEANT: She wore me out, I barely made it through 10 minutes 31 seconds. I didn’t learn a thing no shade. Just being honest.

Dominique443: My grandma always said to me if you can't eat it why are you using it? And she's right but I don't follow that. Slowly making a transition for the better tho

Dr K: One of the best videos on this channel. Thank you

2Luv2Live!!: Love this! That's right do your own research! Love this video! Come on people stop being Get Wits! Lolol

Betty Hall: I was dumb but now that I know it's time to make a change and do better.

nvrnakednails1: Your mantra like mine is everything in moderation! Even too much of a good thing can become a bad thing, for example moisture. I research everything, so I knew some things about the ingredients in the no named gel, but not all of it. I am not so pressed that I am about to throw away all of my new jars though. Similar how to you use serums that gel is my last step. Those ingredients aren't in steps 1-5 lol.

crysberries: Yes!!! I rolled my eyes at that interview. The two interviewees came from very differing perspectives and the interviewer tried to align them. No disrespect but not everyone is educated on how to analyze research scientific studies for bias/slant, methodology/soundness, or even understanding conclusions. Like you said in this case the conclusion was that there are ingredients being left off interview lists that are endocrine disrupters. I’m no chemists but I definitely can’t and don’t rely on uninformed, ill-read YouTubers that simply repeat what they think they heard. (I love YouTube!! Reviews, demos, commentary l, etc.) I think it’s great that you throw out the challenge to do research and ask questions.

AhhhsoNeo: I’m still dying at “the google”, great message.

Gina Anderson: Everyone can find documentation to support what they want to believe. I feel each person should do what they feel is good for them. You should not have to defend your beliefs And that's OK.

Ara E: You are glowing, bright yellow is your power color and your puff is lovely! Okay, Bye Bye Virtual BFF.

Trini Girl Natural: The research said 80% of products sampled contain harmful ingredients. It broke down that each product contained multiple harmful chemicals. So for you to be dismissive because the relaxer was also studied is misleading. Early puberty among blacks is a fact and I do believe it's linked to hair products as well as diet. Very disappointing. I support these women trying to learn more as well as focusing on hair care brands targeting black women which possibly do less testing and care less about the results when they do. I agree with you on Googling and that the missing ingredients is bad however your dismissive tone does more harm than good.

Doris Williams: We know the problem. Please give us the solution.

Deaisha P: Yesss know your ingredients ‍♀️

Toni Oliver: Morehouse School of Medicine has also done research on this topic with similar outcomes. It's not about brands. It's about ingredients. The issue should not be with the research. It should be with the FDA that doesn't require listing harmful and toxic ingredients. The study lists them all but if they're not on the ingredients label, you can only avoid what's listed. If you thoroughly read the Silent Spring study there are links to many sites that provide easier to understand guides on ingredients to avoid. What all the studies point to is that there a ingredients in black hair care products that are endocrine disrupters which are linked to premature births, fibroids, breast cancer, early onset of menses and sexual development in young girls and 5 of the chemicals banned in the UK are in products aimed at young girls. This must be taken seriously.

Belle Wilson: 84% of ingredients weren’t even listed

Rubyred9057: Thanks for the video!

belleandchic1: Great video!!!!

Sharlene Cassius: I subbed! Great vid!

Jojo: You're gorgeous! Natural beauty! What's the best product for thinning hair?

Julie H.: Ty so much for this video, very informative. Off topic, your hair is beautiful and your skin is glowing like no other. Can you please do an updated moisturizer, along with your fav. Skin products.

Lynn Alexandre: Related but unrelated. Shea moisture just added lye (sodium hydroxide) to the african black soap dandruff control conditioner and im pissed.

Lorraine Bailey: What about people who can't read You should talk make those people Know the truth just saying Love your hair nuff respect

Nyemba CN: It's a question of what u take in nit what u slay on hair...if it works for u keep using it..google wasn't made for fogs and doing personal research is a must..letting someone else decide for u is by nature not good

Tameka Walker: Great video

Joy'sCurls: What is t.e.a.? I tried looking it up on the internet and I just got "tea" results.

Chanel M: Awesome video

Julie Nichole: Subscribed and not even 30 secs into the intro

Tamika Wray: You lost me when you said you tell people to use products that you dont use. People usually want to look like the person they are inquiring about, so your not really helping anybody.

Jennifer Ealy: Thank you

Donna Newman: this video told me nothing... she just rambled... SMH

LenaTheBena: Welp! I haven't died yet.

Forever Yours: WHAT ARE THE PRODUCTS???

CrazySexyCoolmeisha: The sample used is not sufficient

Soso971: There phenoxyethanol in it

Kearsten W: "The Google"

Marleen G.: Take the recent Eco Styler "hoopla". I don't buy it one bit. I will continue to use my Eco Styler, no matter what other people say. I have read and researched the ingredients personally, and I am not worried one bit. And about parabens. Parabens have been studied to bits and are considered safe. Guess what? You have to have preservatives in your products and if it's not parabens it's going to be something else, something new, and has *that* been researched enough? Give me parabens over something new that we know nothing about any day!

Bo Bandy: Wth can we use

mese1020: Do your research...

Phoebe Godiva-Adeniyi: People get persnickety about what they put on their hair (not scalp), but are willing to use the same questionable ingredients on their skin which gets absorbed by the body. Same with their diets. Your hair is not living matter, your skin is an actual organ. “If it works for you, keep using it”.

Imamochmama: Do your research

Jas Blaylock: wow drag me
