Hi everyone - this is manny from art melos in this video. I'M sharing my approach of sculpting hair in nomad. A lot of you guys have asked me about this video and i had enough. I'M just kidding very happy to share and truly hope this reaches you all and you get something out of it. These are fear by recent scalps and, as you see, hair is playing in very important part. So don't rush spend time on sculpting and worth it all. I guess you know it and that's the reason, your hair here pun intended, i don't recycle hair, i redo it each time and in process. I learn something. So i'm also learning like you and we all are. I remember when i started sculpting. It was very painful. Nothing worked or behaved the way i expected. I saw this time lapse and people creating these beautiful things in no time and it all seemed like butter. But when i gave a go, my sculpts ended up like a round clumsy, they say more than winning or losing success is more about showing up being there. So this is all you'll have to do. You'Ll have to practice, you have to be consistent, be patient, and we all know that you know with more practice. You will get better. I have started creating this video and i suck at it. I totally suck at it, but i'm trying anyway, so coming back to the topic, if we put the texture of the hair aside, which is often misguiding part in the sculpting hair, then we are left with volume, which is the bulkiness flow, which is the direction of Hair and how the gravity affects the the hair, i said miscarrying, because texture often adds illusion of volume in hair. In other words, one may have less dense hair, but may not appear so and and vice versa, anyways. It should not bother you as a sculptor, since we have to imagine hair as a 3d form. We have to look for big chunks, shapes and flow and sculpt them just like these. There are two methods to sculpt hair, maybe more as the first is just mask. The area of your interest and then extract it with some good thickness. This can be further stretched and moved to make a hair form. Second, is to use spear shape it in form of hair if you're doing top hair by further moving and dragging i've, also seen people using tubes to create hair. You can try that as well, so take a sphere from your primitives and place it on your sculpt. Align it to head off your scalp with the help of transform tool and move tool. Now this is important. Keep density of your mesh low default sphere is good to start with low dense mesh is more responsive and has a better control. High dense mesh has precise control, but the area of impact is small. So, while using move tool and brush tool, you won't be able to make big movement if your mesh is too dense. My recommendation would be to work on the low density mesh and when you get the right shape, you can increase the density by subdividing it or remeshing. It start dragging the spear in directions. You want by using move tool and we'll try and get this shape. Just how we see the reference picture here, you can use move tool as well as drag tool, but i think move tool gives better results now. This is most important part and i cannot emphasize it enough and if you don't do this, you will 100 fail. So this is a tip like magician, revealing the secret pay attention. An ideal 3d object is basically made up of four vertices, but analogy is it's like a cloth material? The threads are uniform and closely needed. When you pull the mesh, you pull the threads and cause a stretch and holds this is not good as you cannot sculpt on it longer the pull more the stretches. So what you do is you remesh it by hitting voxel voxel is basically what they say nomad for remeshing. You can see this stretch by hitting wire icon and once you occul it, your mesh is clean as before, retaining the new shape which you're after so. What you do is you stretch and drag and pull, but you remesh it and every time you drag and push and pull you remesh it eventually. You should have something like this, so we have overcome one obstacle now we have to focus on form and big chunks. Keep in mind the flow of hair also remember hair, although very light still is affected by gravity and shape and form will be affected by it. This is a part of observation and you mimic that in your sculpt identify the big chunks in your reference picture and sculpt them with the help of clay, inflate and brush tool. This is sculpting part and more you practice better. You will become because you will learn and understand how to best use brushes clay and inflate tools, so you should have something like this now. Finally, use your hair brush and it makes this fine lines you can also use crease brush chris brush is good too, to make this kind of line, and these lines basically flow in the direction the hair is flowing. So if you have a good reference image, this is not a difficult part. Finally, we have this. I spent good amount of time in sculpting hair, so the results are a little bit better than what you see here, but you can do this with some patients in practice also be creative, feel free to experiment, maybe use tube tool or masks tool in combination with This to get the better results so guys. I hope you learned something in this video by the way, if you're new to the nomad scout, i have both free and paid version of ebook you'll find the links in the description below it'll help. You understand each tool in the nomad and will make life easy until then happy sculpting, i'll see you in the next video bye.
