#hairbows #hairaccesories #hairbowtutorial

Hello, everyone welcome back to my channel today, i'm going to be talking to you about clay dolls for hair bows, as you may know, from previous posts, i did buy myself a starter kit because i wanted to have a go at making my own clay dolls and I have to say, i've had a go and it was so much fun. So the purpose of this video today is to go through some of the essential items that you will need. If you want to start making your own clay dolls and then i will cover some of the non-essential items which i bought anyway, because i like to go all on out and then you can decide if you'd like to have a go now. The first thing you need the most obvious thing of all: is your clay itself from all of the research that i did, i decided to go for air dry clay, as this seems to be the most used clay for the clay dolls for bows. So this is what i went for these ones here in this bag. These came in my kit, which is linked in the description below. I got these from etsy from art mary2 for more information on the kit. I will pop the link here because i did an unboxing video for this kit as well, and you get all your molds and everything in that. So that is where i got this clay from. I don't know what make this clay is, but it works very well. It'S nice and soft: it's got a nice texture and this red and brown here are colors that i made myself from this clay, and i will show you more about coloring your clay later on in this video. I also highly recommend this nikron clay. This is a very good quality clay, emma miller from clay's for days, i contacted her and she helped me get hold of this at a really good price, but i know you can also get hold of this on etsy and also little bow prints stock. The nikron clay, so you can check that out on there now when it comes to clay. Obviously this is a transparent, so you can color up with mica powders or paints. I will tell you more about that again later on in this video, but if you're buying your colors ready made, i recommend purchasing a skin color and then your primary colors. That way, you can mix them together to make your own and also purchase a skin and a black and a white, the white for lightening colours and the black is good for darkening colours. The next essential items are these silicon. Molds again, i got this one in my kit that i ordered, and these two i ordered as extras. This one is a hair mould and that fits these three centimeter dolls. You can also get molds for six to seven centimeter dolls as well, which i have ordered. I'Ve ordered this one here. Hopefully that will come soon and i've also ordered another hair mold for the bigger doll size as well, because i wanted the option of having a bigger doll or the smaller ones. These were really good value from etsy. Again, i will share the link in the description below these were less than 10 pounds. I believe, and the bigger one obviously was a little bit more expensive, but still very cheap, so i highly recommend checking out their etsy stores in the description below. You will also need some tools for modeling your clay. Now, obviously, you've got your molds which do most of the work for you, but these do help to add little extra details such as this pokey tool. You can use that for adding the little dots at the sides of the mouth. You can use them for picking up your eyes and pressing it into the doll's face. Obviously, on the clay you've got a brush. You can add some texture onto your clay. For example, this is one of my clay dolls and i added some little texture to the bottom of her skirt here to make it look like sort of a fluffy effect, and for that i used this brush here i bought this set of acrylic paints. I picked a pack which mainly had the primary colors in plus. They came with a few extras. Obviously the black and whites again, which are good for lightening the colors or darkening the colors, and i also bought a metallic gold and a metallic silver. And these are just good for adding little details such as the eyebrows and the eyelashes, and, as you can see, i did some little dots on her hair bow and i also painted a little belt on her dress using the gold and a black, and with that You will also need these very fine tipped paint brushes. These ones are ideal which i got from aliexpress the paints. I all got from my local craft shop, the range, but you can probably pick these up from any craft store. I will try and find some to link in the description below but, like i said, you can probably find these in your local craft store also with the acrylic paints. You can actually color your clay. So if you start off with say this transparent clay, this one is actually a transparent. You can color it using your acrylic paints. It is messy, so i also have some disposable gloves. I pop the gloves on pick the color i want so for her hair. Obviously i wanted a nice brown color, so i took a lump of my transparent clay and i used a little bit of blue a little bit of yellow and a little bit of the red and just rub it all into the clay until you get your desired. Color and as you're doing that, if you want to add a little bit more yellow to lighten it, you can, if you want to add a little bit more of the blue and the red to make it a darker brown. You can it's actually really fun, because you can make any color and obviously you only need to buy one lot of clay doing it that way. So that is a really good tip. Another way to color your clay or to add a metallic sheen is to use mica powders. Mica powders are basically widely used in makeup to color them such as eyeshadows. You can use eyeshadow, but i got all of these different colors off aliexpress for fairly cheap i'll. Just give you a little look inside so, as you can see, they are just like a loose metallic powder. Now to use these, you can either paint a layer in your mould before you pop your clay in and that will leave a shimmery layer. On top of your clay, or maybe you could do the dress or you could do a hair, bow shimmery or if you want to actually color the clay again, you just take a chunk of transparent clay or you can use white clay, but transparent does work best For adding color and you just pop some of the powder in your clay and work it in so these are another good thing to have for colour in your clay. I bought these two as a set this acrylic plate and this acrylic rolling pin now the plate is handy while you're making your clay doll, you can pop it on here. You can pick it up while you're painting on her eyelashes or you can lay it down. It'S just a nice little work surface for you to work on. You can pick up and move around easily rather than being stuck to the table. The rolling pin is really good when you're using your molds, because you sort of push the clay in and then you can roll it really in there to push the clay into the details and get a nice smooth flat back. So this is really handy for that. A and when your clay is on here, it can get a little bit stuck, so i bought this blade. Now do be careful, because this is quite sharp. You can use this blade for adding details into your clay, such as hair. You can sort of push it into the clay to make texture or, if you've got your doll on here and she's, wet and she's. Stuck to this, you can just slide this underneath her and use that to pick her up for the clay dolls, you can buy these gorgeous 3d eyes. As you can see, they do look shiny like a real eye, they're so pretty, and these ones for the three centimeter doll. I bought the five millimeter eyes and then i found these ones on aliexpress in brown and blue, and these were six millimeter eyes and i thought these would be ideal for the bigger mold when i get it and they have the 3d look on them as well. You can also get things like these ready-made resin bows and you can use these on your dolls or you can obviously make your own. I actually did make this one out of clay, and i found this on aliexpress. This bow mold. It'S got all different styles of bows on there, which i thought would be good for clay dolls. Now i did find with this mold. It was a little bit difficult to demold the clay. It got a little bit stuck and this does feel stickier than these ones. It'S obviously just a maybe a cheaper material, i'm not sure, but it did work when i used coconut oil. So i've got a tub of this pure organic coconut oil, which i'll use for all sorts. You can use this as a moisturizer. This has so many uses, but it also makes a good demolder, so i just took a little bit of this with a paintbrush painted it in the mold before i added my clay and that just acts as a de-mold agent, i also recommend moisturizing your hands with Some of this, as well, whilst you're working with your clay and that really does help to work with the clay easier because it doesn't stick to your hands. So this is really good stuff. I bought some of these little metal bars for jewelry making, so these ones they've just got like a little flat head. You can cut these with sharp scissors or pliers, and i also bought some with a little eye at the end. These are really good. If you want to make little charms, so you can pop one of these in the top of your clay and then obviously you can attach it then to a key ring. But i also use these by cutting the eye off and what you use these for is to attach the head to the body. So these are another essential item in your clay making. Another essential item is white glue and this is used to attach things such as the bow. I used a little bit on the bow when i popped it on her head. I popped some under her arms and under her hair, as i was attaching it and obviously her legs things like that and white glue, even though it's just one pound a bottle so cheap, it works really well with polymer clay. I was actually really surprised and i found this nail polish bottle. It actually had cuticle oil in it, because i thought that's a little bit easier to clean out. It was a really cheap, cuticle oil. So i bought this. I poured the cuticle oil out down the drain and i popped some of the white glue into this and that way i've got a handy little brush applicator to apply it to my clay doll as i'm making it. So that's a good tip for you all pastel chalks and a cotton bud or you can use just a paint brush, and these are good for adding little blush cheeks. You can just rub this on here and give her little flushed cheeks. You can also use chalks for adding other details, but with these and the mica powder with both of these, i will recommend that you seal your clay, because the chalk and the mica powder can easily rub off if you're, just using them. On the surface of your clay, and with that i recommend a polyetherine varnish. I chose satin because, obviously, with making clay dolls there's nothing on there. I really need glossy, so i thought a satin or even a map would have been fine. I got this one from amazon. I will link it in the description below and this was recommended through the research that i'd done, because it doesn't yellow like, for example, if i used mod podge glue to seal it. That has a tendency to leave sort of a sticky layer and turn yellow. So this is the one that i decided to settle on. I also purchased this silicon mat so, for example, if you need to roll a long piece of clay - and you want to let on your surface and roll it, you will need a nice clean, smooth surface to do that. To avoid getting any sort of marks and dust, etc in your clay, so i use this silicon mat. I do give it a wipe over with some simple fragrance free baby wipes, first to make sure it's rid of all the dust before i roll my clay onto this. But this is a really nice smooth surface to work with your clay, so i do recommend getting one of these, so i hope i've given you enough insight today to help you decide whether you would like to take the route of trying out some clay. Dolls. Don'T forget to check out the description below for all of the items mentioned today, and i will see you soon with a clay doll tutorial thanks for watching everyone, bye,
