Please remember that I strongly suggest taking your extensions to a salon that has experience with extensions to have them cut to suit your style. But if you are a do it yourself-er (like me!) then I would suggest testing this method on some old extensions first before you start chopping into your new ones.

This has taken me a long time to master and it is in no way professional! I like to keep my extensions thick but with layers to help blend with the rest of my hair. I use my natural hair as the first layer and layer the rest of the extensions to match. Hope this helps you guys out! This is just how I like my hair extensions to be layered everybody is different.

Everyone, so a lot of you have been asking me to show you how i layer my hair, extensions. Okay, I did a video for you, I'm warning you, okay, this is not easy. It'S not an easy thing to do. It'S kind of! So it's not like! I'M just telling you okay, do this step one step, two, you three, so I showed you guys the best I could. This is what I do, but I can't you know. I really strongly suggest you go to a hairstylist for this because it you can, it can get moldy if you don't do it properly or practice on some like old, hair extensions. First, I know that I, when I like, started doing hair extensions. I thought oh cut layers of your hair, I'll just take one row and just cut chop off, and then it just ended up being like rows of hair and it didn't and it didn't blend well, and it was just it was just not nice. It was just not a good, a good thing, so obviously I've learned I've taught myself over the years how to do it. I'M using my mannequin head, like I said before I use my mic-n, had to do this as well, which is gon na be kind of harder for you guys to do, but you can use your friends hair just make sure they pull their hair all the way Up into like a bun at the top of their head um, but I'm you guys wanted to see it, so I'm just gon na show you guys how I do it and um hope you guys like it. If you guys want to see how I'll air my hair extensions, then just keep watching okay, so this is my lovely mannequin head it. I call cut all her hair off still. It would be easier for me to use my extensions on her because I use the styler here, but ever since I got extensions, I like to style up my own here myself, so right now, I'm gon na take my hair. I have about 240 grams with hair here. 160 is enough for me, but I like the added thickness of adding more hair. So what am I just gon na do? Is I'm going to. As you can see, I was like put extensions in your hair. I glue them in and practice yeah extensions and stuff. So knows what I'm gon na do, and I'm just gon na um clip in my extensions where I would normally would clip in and clip them into my hair, make sure your hair extensions are straight when you do this too, because is I'll. Take the top piece like this and then I'll measure it on my head, like so I'll, take a look at it where my or would sit on my head and we'd sit about right there, and then I see where my top layer is basically right here. This is my top layer of hair right, so I just I don't want to go since I'm laying on my hair. I don't want to go right where this layer is, I want to go a little bit below where this first layer is it. I'M gon na start about right here. So that's about this much below my first layer just in case I need to do some more trimming and stuff. So you're gon na want to remember memorize where that line is or what you can do is you can take a ruler and measure from your hairline to your top layer and then you could go from there, so that would be an easier way just taking a Ruler or measuring tape, which sounds funny but and my first hairs gon na, be here, and it's going. It'S basically taking all the single layers of your hair and taking like a fine piece of hair like so, and what I do since I'm like my hair to be thick at the bottom. I don't like it to be thinner at the bottom. I will kind of disregard the first so see how I have this layer. This is my first layer that goes on top of my ear and then I have three there's three and then there's my first wet. So I'm not gon na worry about this. I'M not going to cut any of this because I like the thickness of that at the bottom there, so I'm not going to do anything to that and again this is not professional guys. This is just what I do to layer. My hair and I find it works really well so now I only have like three or four layers at the top here and what I'm going to do is I'm gon na take the hair and I'm gon na make sure it's brushed really flat. You don't want them to be turned around and mixed up and stuff like that. That'S not gon na work, you're going something to be brushed out. So so you brush them out like this, and then you pull your fingers through it like that. So it's nice and flat, I'm going to take my scissors and, like I did with my front layers, I'm just going to lightly very very lightly and I'm just going to lightly down the hair shaft and then I'll have some hair like this. So basically, my first layer will be done, see how I have a layer here already you see it and it goes through the whole shaft of it, but you can't really see it because I'm supposed to blend it, that's what it's for it yeah I mean layering. You don't want to be all like choppy looking, but you want to see that there's layers in it for curling and everything like that, so I'm just gon na take another strip and the strips gon na be right next to the strip that I just took right Here see the sharpies basically do the same thing, so I'm just going to brush it out, like this, make sure it's nice and flat, and then I'm gon na see um where my last layer was see how short this is compared to this know, if you guys Can see, but I'm gon na hold that on top of it to be kind of like a guide and then I'm gon na do that and I'm gon na take that hair and I'm gon na kind of move. This piece out of the way - and it's gon na start about here so and I like to start with longer layers, like I told you guys before, because just in case you know they cook, I cut them too short. I don't want to cut them too short. So I'm gon na do the same thing again, I'm going to take a piece next to it. So yeah, I'm just gon na take my next piece. I'M gon na do the same thing. I'M gon na start my leaders boat right here and I'm going to just open and close, basically till I get down to the bottom of the hair. So can you guys see - probably not you guys - can see um there's already some layers, which is right here throughout the hair and I'll keep doing this through the whole thing? And then, if I want some more like noticeable layers like choppy layers, I'll go through it again and I will layer it again, hey so sometimes what I'll do is you know um you can see where I have like my shortest layer. I just I've layered. It already - and I have like a short piece right in the middle here - um - what I, what I sometimes do, is I'll put it on the ground and now we'll cut it to that to that length so um. What I do is I make sure that it's nice and straight so, even though I was laying me on the head, I get a better, a more accurate um view like this, so I could see you know. I'Ve started off here and I'm gon na go with my shortest layer and now what you're? Not what you're not gon na want to do is you're not gon na want to cut it straight across like that cuz. That'S just gon na make it look like there's steps and it's gon na look fake. You don't want it to look fake. You want it to look natural like there's natural layers, so what you're gon na do is you're gon na take your scissors like this and you're gon na start cutting upward. Now this is the shortest thing I want. I go to make sure nothing is longer than that. It kind of upward, but like honest land, you and then what I usually do is I take it and I'll fold it over and wherever any of the like still have hair. I cut it upwards like this. I'M just cutting it straight up, so it's not so blind where your layers start off you're just gon na and see how you can kind of see but see how you can see where the lair is. You just want to cut it kind of blend the bottom. You, okay, so all the hair should be layered. Now you put it in a ponytail, see how it curves in because these are. This is all layered here. So if you see any like choppy choppy spots, like I kind of like seeing the layers like I like to know like I like to see them, because if I put my hair, my hair is gon na be on top. I want it to look like my hair, is a layer and then the rest of it is layers, but so yeah I like to see this kind of being a little bit chopped on the top of your side. But if you don't, you could just take the pieces that look choppy and just kind of you know, smooth em out make make them that look so noticeable by just kind of doing that to the ends and then just to make sure that all the layers straight. Like make sure that all you know are one length and I'm going to tilt it upside down and I'm just gon na start cutting into it. Just because I don't I want it to be kind of uneven. I don't want to have like a blunt cut, so the ends aren't completely straight in it blends with the hair. So I'm going to do that for each one see how this there's a piece here, that's kind of sticking out, so I'm just gon na go through it and then tip it upside down and I'm just gon na take my scissors and I don't need to go Really into it, just all the extra really really long pieces, I'm gon na cut into just so they're more one-length. So when I layer it and everything like that, there's not going to be like longer pieces in that section. So, even if see how it's not all perfectly - even that's, okay, I might just do a little bit more on this side, because over at the sides here looks a little bit longer again. It doesn't have to be the exact same. You don't want to be the exact same width width because you don't want to give it a blunt blunt look and, as you get lower and lower you'll, see that like see, you don't need to do anything to this piece because it's it's like near the bottom. The good thing about this is that you'll know what goes where because of the layers like the shortest player is gon na, be going on the top and some wine and so forth. So I hope you guys learned a thing or two just be very, very careful when you do this, don't start cutting too short and hopefully you'll be okay. So I hope this helped you guys out. I hope you guys found this informative and I'll talk to you. Guys later, bye,

Melissa J.: Hi Kelly thank you so much for this video! I cut my hair (& now I regret it) so I bought some extentions & layered them exactly like u showed & they came out amazing and blended very well w/ my shoulder length hair!!! You are the best go to girl when it comes to extentions!! Xoxo

oAskAshleYo: Hey. Awesome video. Thank you so much. Also, I've been trying to get my hair blonde for the past 4 months (it started at black box dye and went from extremely ruined after the bleaching and highlights to semi normal after letting it grow out a bit) and I love your color. What colors, low lights and high lights, do you have in your hair? I want to tell my stylist to do exactly this.

Armika Lindqvist: thank you sooo much for this clip! Today my boyfriend volunteered as my mannequin head and I layerd it all by your "rules" or ways and it all turned out just perfect! :D I'm so happy with it and I couldn't have succeded without this video :) Thanks again!

HairGirl247: @Sassysazz02 no problem! depending on how often I wear them depends on how much I condition them. If I wear them everyday I will use a deep conditioner once a week to a week and a half. I let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse with cool water then I just let them air dry separating them on a table next to each other.Usually I will brush them out really flat so I don't have to straighten them! I will give a shampoo usually once a month or whenever I use product on them which is not often!

Terri B: Thank you for this video! I'm going to be purchasing my first extensions and this video is great to show me how to layer them! Thanks again!

Jennifer Shakley: Well, I'm baffled by some of these comments... this is FREE advice. I think it's awesome that you took the time to share how YOU do it. I think they look well blended, you showed that the point cutting is definitely key, and who cares about the video quality?! You did the best you could with that, and this was a tutorial about hair extensions... not video making. Whatever, you explained your method the very best you could, and showed every step- thanks!

HeForeverLIves: Wow amazing! Definitely makes shorter hair styles blend better with hair extensions! Great job as always!

Lisbeth B. Ashley: Never worn extensions before and was kinda nervous ordering my ZALAs because I didn't really know how to use them but these were sooo easy to apply. The team also recommended I use their application tutorial which helped a lot. Already worn my clip ins like 10 times!!

Amy B: Very informal and easy to follow yet informational. Best video I have found on this subject yet. Going to do the same to my extensions tomorrow...wish me luck!!! I'll post a reply to let you know how it turns out! :-D (btw, I really like your hoodie/jacket you're wearing in the vid)

EtInArcadiaEgo: Thanks so much! I just layered my extensions and finally they look undetectable! xxx

Steffanie Hayden: I absolutely love my ZALAS!! I have been buying for 3 years now and will never use another brand. I have had clip ins and a human ponytail wrap which is a LIFESAVER. I have dyed, cut, toned and styles all my zalas multiple times and the quality is second to none!

Dolly Madison: You are an excellent teacher with incredible natural talent for hair. Very informative video! I am a licensed hairstylist and I'm very impressed with your skill :) Thanks!

LoveMartica: Wow...thanks for all the fantastic tips....I love the way you explain everything in great details...I'm going to do thismyself on my old extensions first...

Jesicapriful86: Love this vid :) ive always wanted to try the extentions but im worried about them possibly falling out or not the right shade as my hair. I have a stacked bob combo so im not sure i could pull this off.

Dion Relka: Beautifully done :> thanks for the video !!

Wish ofpurple: Thanks for all the hair extension tips that you share with us! :)

Tasia Johnson: I have previously been using a different hair extension brand for the last few years however wanted to try something new as they were sold out of my shade and didn't want to wait- and I'm so glad they were sold out!! I came across Zala through a google search and the price looked reasonable and I ordered it as they offered the refund option in case I wasn't happy, but upon arrival I was so surprised by the quality!! They were super thick, and smooth with hardly any to no shedding at all!! The colour match was perfect and they blended well. And the packaging...wow, I was not expecting that, it comes in a nice box, plus a free shampoo and conditioner, along with care book etc... I am more than happy with my purchase and feel as though i've been missing out this whole time! Defs found my new go to hair extension site and will recommend to everyone!! love love love

superduperkrystal: youre really good at explaining things! thank you so much im confident in cutting my extentions now :]

Michelle Romero: this helped me so much with my extensions! now ive got ideas on how to layer mine. thanks so much !

Dawn Marie: I have a couple questions where did you buy your extensions they're so beautiful! Also did they come like that or did you have to dye them to match? This videos has taught me a lot!

Alex Plans: Hey! I just wanted to say you're fabulous! ignore the haters. I've only just got extensions yesterday and your videos have helped me heaps! xox

Kat BeWitched: There is a reason I worship my hairdresser! :-) Thank you very much for the video demonstration. Luckily I only needed a one inch trip on my extensions.Love your vids!!!

Lauren Thompson: OMG! thank you so much! i NEVER wore my expensive extensions because they were so noticable! but this video gave me the courage to cut them myself! they look great! THANK YOU! :D

Donna C: @HairGirl247 It is a great video, you have done a really good job showing the steps involved in layering the extensions and I enjoyed watching it :)

nina 93: your vids are super helpful and very informative. i appreciate the explanations. helped me alot! thanks :)

Pleuni Felter: "After looking everywhere and making some terrible purchases on the internet I stumbled upon Zala Hair. Was so impressed with the professional website and range of natural looking beautiful colours. After receiving my caramel ponytail I jumped back on the website and immediately purchased a halo as well!! The quality is amazing. Finally a product that is exactly what it says it is! And it was beautifully gift boxed with products to maintain its shine and longevity. Now I can have beautiful hair and lots of it ❤️"

Gingerlakegirl: So happy to have found your channel! How'd you learn to do that? Do you have your cosmetologist license? Great job! Thanks for sharing. :)

rosadam: thank you! your video was very useful, perfect results at first attempt! But I used gown hangers to trim and then put the extensions on to see where to cut!

MuzicIcon: thanks lady! this helped me blend my clip in side bangs extension to my very short hair!

hebasaid: i love the video and great efforts in this one. also, for those complaining about the video quality, .. Do they realize they can choose the resolution of the video??

DiiJiiGii: Great info! Thanks! Got myself some inexpensive, fake hair to practice this technique cuz I'm completely new to extensions!

Tiffany Sutherland: I use my boyfriend's head to layer my extensions lol it works pretty good! :)

TheRainyDayReader: those look SO good on your hair. I never would have guessed that you had extensions in :)

ohmylourdes1: Your hair color is perfect to your skin and eyes, LOVE IT!

Leah McCoy: Must say I've watched 100 videos and yours was the only one that helped me :) great job!!!! And love your hair

Texascajun: Your videos are so, so helpful. Thank you very much!

Lori Duncan: Great video, very helpful! I don't know what you do for a living, but you should be a pro extension stylist! All your vids are amazing!

mallory vann: comming from a licensed cosmetologist- thumbs up. great tutorial. perfect slicing technique.

Suzanne Cluff: Love it! These look awesome!

marky76a: iam a professional hairdresser in england and this video is fab this is how i cut hair extensions on my clients you do a fab job carry on with the videos xoxo

Tgirl425: Thanks for the video! You explained things really easily for hair stupid people like myself, lol. Love the freaky mannequin head!

charlene caprio: So glad i found you!!! I just got Foxylocks extentions and thanks to you, now i can fix them! Your the best, looking foeward to many more vids!!

ccorrine80: I <3 your make-up in this video! What colors did you use? Very pretty :)

rachel geller: I love the 60 day returns policy of ZALA because i like knowing im covered in case i buy the wrong shade.

EmmaJeanette: You should be a professional, you cut extensions ALOT better than a lot of "Top Notch" stylists i've been to in L.A <3

Josephine Fletcher: Please do not worry about haters... I can see than many appreciate your videos, I do for one. Very well explained and as my hair is fine just like yours, I cannot play around too much with it.

HairGirl247: @vinny111 Like the title says, this is how I like to do it :) i like having the hair thicker at the bottom so I don't cut all the way through on purpose. So it still blends all the way through but it's thicker at the bottom! ;)

HairGirl247: Yes exactly, say that you want your hair blunt at the bottom not a V shape and to keep a lot of the thickness. If your hair is the same as my extensions just say you don't want the last four layers cut at all just blunt cut at the bottom :)

Bonita Brewer: Such a great video, thanks for posting it :)

Serenity S: gonna try it on mine thanks for the video was helpful honey :)

lovetolearnfromyou: @HairGirl247 another great video however confused i thought the best you found was lushlocks (1) 260g as the pieces come how you wanted them out of the box without redoing the clips/taking apart which you used to have to do with Foxy Lock. Please clarify. So, also clarify how many clips/pieces are on each row starting w/the bottom. I absolutely love your look, advise and videos want to be sure I get it right. The layering is gorgeous//truly is the key to making it look natural. Excellent job!

S Crane: Very nice tutorial. I can still imagine how bad this would turn out for me though!

Diann Hazelton: Thank you for demonstrating. You keep saying your not a professional but I think you did a mighty fine job anyway! :-)

Marina Meza: I think you made the video very easy to understand, thanks c:

mallory vann: comming from a licensed cosmetologist- thumbs up. great tutorial. perfect slicing technique.

michele howard: I love your videos!! I have learned so much. You recommend Lush Locks. From what I can see, first, they are out of stock on everything, I didnt see any wefts without clips already sewn in, and I didnt see anything about remy hair. Have things changed? I have been doing my own extensions since 1993 for thickness. I have fine, thin hair. Clips usually slide and pop through my hair. I am going to try your tips and go with single wefts. Where did you get manequin head? THANX!!

jasmine pittman: Do you know how much I love you? Every video I saw for short hair their hair was like medium to long . Then I see your doll and her hair is the same length as mine -3

makeupbyaliii: this is actually a very good video anyone who disagrees just doesnt know how to cut hair its a skill not all have

Miriam Shimon: Personally I think you are wonderful! I'm really thankful for the time you have put into this! And I like that you talk a lot!!! :):)

HairGirl247: @m1a9r8c8i The 160 gram medium thick extensions are enough hair for me. This is two sets of 120 gram extensions put together! I have a video on how I took my Foxy Locks Extensions apart but if you have two sets of 120 its a lot easier! I will definitely put a video up on that cuz its much easier!

2Sherrall: Thanks for a great video, I all ways wondered about hair extensions. I am really enjoying watching your videos. Your very talented.

Jenn Reedy: I think you did a GREAT job!! & the video quality isn't that bad, very good info & guiding! Thank you for sharing!! :). I don't "sub" to many ppl, but I enjoy your videos & have learned a few things- so yea, I subscribed to YOU!! ;)

silvannacolby77: Neat!..just what I needed to know. Thanks!!!

HairGirl247: @xsmittyxo these are two sets of 120g extensions that I sewed a three clip and a four clip together! It is way faster than redoing all the extensions but for my hair I need two sets to make it look natural in order to use this method...your right maybe i should just do a video

Amber Rau: Don't ever cut your own hair extension. LET A PROFESSIONAL HAIR SALON DO IT.

Hannah: when you go to get them done at a salon, should you have them clipped in your hair already?

Christine J. Metivier: Once you go ZALA extensions you'll never go back, I feel so much more glam in my clip ins and its such a dramatic transformation!!

Lynsey Ryan: As a licensed professional for over 8 years I can say it is sooooo annoying to watch people on youtube pretend to know how to cut hair. I would like to say that from my PORFESSIONAL opinion I appreciate how she mentioned she isn't professional and recommend you see a professional. I also would like to say this is the most accurate tutorial I have ever seen on someone pretending to cut hair. She has done an excellent job with her self education on cutting hair

HairGirl247: @vanderpantss I would never recommend ordering a darker color and try to highlight them! it is always way easier to go darker because when you try to bleach the hair it is stripping color...this will come up with most likely orange tones (gross). So try to match your highlight first and then go darker from there because you are depositing color, a lot less dangerous!! lol :)

HairGirl247: @orangejuice219 Wow! My life seem so much more glamorous than it actually is lol! I got the mannequin head as a christmas gift about 10 years ago. I tested everything on it (including halloween) and it got ruined, so I eventually just cut all the hair off so it would be easier for my extensions. As for my "walk in closet" It is actually just a small spare room in my two bedroom apartment. I didn't have enough room in my tiny bedroom closet for my clothes. Perception is a funny thing! :)

Jessica Stroud: Hey!!! 2 questions. 1. Is that remy hair or virgin? 2. What color are your extentions? Do they happen to be #12/613? Great vid and looking forwrd to hearing from you☺☺

Donna C: I don't have unused sets of extensions, so the blending and colouring is something I leave to my hair stylist.

Kelsey Dornblaser: i find it easier to cut my extensions when i have them in my hair. i just feel like it's easier to frame my face and everything, and to get them to blend.

HairGirl247: @omgunicorns You could definitely use a razor, but I prefer to use scissors. I feel the razor gives more of a thinned out look when I like choppy layers :)

Courtneeey •: Would the extensions still look okay if you were to wear them in a ponytail? :)

Hi, There!!!: You're mannequin's hair is the exact hair cut I got and the reason I have extensions I wish I was lying about my cut lol

HairGirl247: @GatorGurl24 I already have a video on how I low-light them. The best advice I can give is to go to the salon. Otherwise what I do is match your hair color (most importantly your undertone, gold, ash, beige etc..) to a box dye and go from there! It's really not straight forward!

justjordannmakeup: your so gorgeous1 i loved this vid thanks so much :) xx

jennyjen: thanks so much i bought a pair of 28 inch hair from a different site and i am gonna cut mine like how you didi :) and what do you store your hair in ??

Laura P: thanks This really helped!

HairGirl247: @babynajat I am so glad I could help! :)

Lady Sofia Hadid: Did you tone these extensions with the same toner of your hair?

Lindsee: @HairGirl247 you go girl (: It's so ignorant when people judge you and they know nothing about you! Perception really is a funny thing! haha

brikayxoxo: you look so pretty in this video!!

HairGirl247: @Picklesplusicecream I don't want a triangular shape. This is the way I do it because I like the way it looks full and straight at the back. People were curious about how I like to cut my extensions so I did a tutorial on how I like them. In the video I even say that this is not professional and it's what I like to do.

casey combs: Have you ever glued your hair extensions in?

HairGirl247: @MalibuBarbie252 Thank you so much :) Good luck with the extensions!

Frances: I can't believe I've only just found you - love your videos!!! subbed :) x

slytherin0queen: You made this way harder then it needed to be! I'm curious since you had the mannequin why you didn't do a traditional layer hair cut?

OL: Haters don't like it don't watch it! love all your videos, but my hair is too short cant do anything with it :(

Lidiya Prots: you are amazing! i just need you to do it for me (;

jess a: I have layered hair and want to wear extensions but I dont want to cut my extensions. So will wearing shorter extensions with longer ones make it seem like my hair is layered?

Lindsee: Did you go to a hair academy/school??? or did you just learn from experience? You are really good! <3

lovetolearnfromyou: @HairGirl247 Please clarify is this not the Lush Locks 260g as I thought they were the correct size wefts/clips right out of the box. If pulling apart etc. can you update which wefts are being sew together, which are left and what row has how may clips/what length across. The layering is awesome I wish all extension wearers would try it the key to making extensions look like your own hair. I'm getting a doll head to work on too/great idea/keep up the great videos

Olivia Oeller: @HairGirl247 You're such a sweetheart!! By the way, you said repeatedly that you weren't a professional so anyone who tells you it's not 'the right way,' is an idiot. Keep it up!:]

MzArtizta: i am a prof. and this isnt bad at all, i may suggest tho a razor, i believe you can get them at sallys but i think it might be a little easier good vid TFS :)

amanda m: Are those Remy extensions? I have 18 inch Remy clip ins that I would like to put on. I have an inverted bob like Victoria beckham and my longest layer in the front is just past my chin. I'm having trouble blending the extensions.. the back of my head is layered but it has grown out... Any suggestions??

beth w: great job!

Jessica Stroud: Hey!!! 2 questions. 1. Is that remy hair or virgin? 2. What color are your extentions? Do they happen to be #12/613? Great vid and looking forwrd to hearing from you☺☺

HairGirl247: @mac14x0o use a friend's head but make sure they are all put in straight and not interfering with their hair. Pull their hair in a tight bun on top their head.
