Hi I'm Lauren Ashton, the owner and designer of the Lauren Ashburn collection, and I started this company three years ago. I'Ve grown up in the hair industry, my mom is a hairdresser and I've grown up in a salon. My entire life - and you know I've always had a really fine, thin hair, and so I started doing different types of extensions and wigs for different different clients, and there really was just nothing out there in the market. That was, you know to my standard as a hairdresser, so I wanted to create something for the everyday person that they could just snap on and have a little bit of volume. On top - and that's been, you know everything up everyone it since I was a little girls to have really full thick hair on the top, and there was just really nothing out there to the quality to where no one could actually see it. So here we are so usually so tell us how we can use your products and services in Spartanburg, so we have a line and we have a ecommerce business. So we have very much a global company sell products all over the world, but yet, along with our product, is also very much a service aspect, so you can come into our home office. You can buy your extensions here from us. We have all our stylist on staff, so they can fix you up, get you out of here whether you got an event, wedding, prom, whatever it may be, or you just want - have great quality. Hair extensions are any day. Okay, we're the place to come and get it. So you come into our salon. You can check us out online and then you travel all over the world. Tell us why you still call Spartanburg home. So we do. We travel all over the world and it's really cool to get to meet people from different places, but I've grown up in the Upstate, as was my husband, and we just really wanted to bring something different to the Upstate. It'S ever been done before, and you know we know that we could go somewhere else and it would probably be a lot easier to do what we do if we were in California or somewhere, where there's a huge demographic for extensions, but we really wanted to grow. This from our hometown - and you know we're really proud to be from the Upstate, and you know we, our main customer base that really helped us start. This business is from here and so we're really proud to say that we're from Spartanburg yeah I mean we've had a lot of outside influence. Come to asking us to, you know, go to bigger markets and movie places to have you know a larger opportunity. We see Spartanburg is a huge opportunity for us and a huge opportunity for the state of South Carolina and in the East goes for them. I think that's why it's called The Hub. We want to want to stay intact to that um. So now we've moved to this mob as a success award. It'S really to highlight successful small businesses as we see fit throughout the year. All of the award winners will go on to be finalists for the small business of the Year award that we give off. That would give out at our annual celebration, so we started the process and our small business council really said you know not. Every business in spartanburg is a member of the chamber. We would like to have a way to recognize small businesses that aren't members, so we would the small business success success Awards. We can recognize businesses that are small businesses in the community that are members of the chamber and then for the small business of the Year award. The the finalists are Chamber members, so yeah. So in the next join the chamber yeah. So we will start so it's January to December all the people that are accrued through that time. So we'll start voting in February. So so we have open nominations, so anyone from the public can nominate. We have a small business council that nominates our executive board and staff nominate and then we look at the requirements. There are a couple of different criteria, so I kind of follow your story through social media and especially last year. Remember all the Grammy stuff and everything else like that, and I thought it was just such a great. You know this great privilege that you guys were from Spartanburg and I actually nominated you also for the wipey of the year life. I had nominated that because I think that you're making a huge impact not only in the community but globally as well and Stefan, I think it's a great entrepreneur story of a young. You know young adult who's come in and you know found this great success and has worked very hard to get it and, like you said, should have taken this to California to anywhere in the entire country or even in the world. I mean you can easily take this to your meeting with you and and that you you've, purposefully intentionally, chose to stay here in Spartanburg. And that's all about the mission of what we do not only with smart bring young professionals, but also with the Chamber of Commerce, and want to tell these stories of people who not only are just successful, successful but are successful here in Spartanburg and how that ties Back in together and it's a big talent is a big thing right now trying to get or young people or oh my gosh, and that's to stay and start never to move back here. But I'm sure you probably have friends saying you probably graduated with with the Charlotte or Asheville, chose them wherever and you know, and we want to show that there's great opportunity here in Spartanburg that you don't have to go today's play out. You can do it here, make it your own or there's plenty of great jobs as well, so yeah yeah, you know it's been. It'S always nice to be different. You know I'd like you to know this. Isn'T I mean this cities, the people that are staying, trying to make a difference in you guys trying to highlight that, and you know think that that's important did you hear a lot of people say? Well, you know just trying to figure what I want to do and get out of. I think that's just one of the great things that you know the Commerce groove and everybody it's coming together and trying to highlight those good purpose behind it. So yeah yeah. I think it's really just about you know, no matter where you are it's about the persistence and you know, there's a million doors that are always gon na be slammed in your face that you just have to keep knocking on another door. Until when I was in school, my grandfather did a lot of business here in Spartanburg. You know he always had the opportunity to develop in different areas, but you know he kept all his stuff here in South Carolina and more specifically, exploiters yeah and these the headquarters. Two of which - and you know he just always want to give back to the community to itself - that's just something. I'Ve always been a part of it got the season's over and just continued see if I can just stay inside, because you know ready for something like this anywhere else really not only would be, I would say, quadruple: okay yeah, if not more yeah, you know, and So, from a business standpoint, just the you know a business friendly state and community, we advocate from Swamper chamber all the time they keep it that way. Instead, so it's just you know, people sometimes don't always think they want to go, maybe where the traffic is or yeah. You know or different things like that, but in the long run you actually can save a lot of money having businesses places like Spartanburg as well. We didn't ever we'd have never started our business somewhere else. Anything because I mean if you, if you knew our whole story, we started that we literally boot shop. That'S from the very beginning. We sold our house and we're done. Okay to actually start a business, and we had had a couple of other things happen before that, where a lot of our money was kind of taken, and things like that, so we wouldn't have been able to afford doing anything that we did in the beginning. Anywhere else, honestly now you know, after that it might would have been easier to move you, but you know, like we said our our people from here have really been. You know would have supported us to get to this point, and so we always you know. Of course we want grandchild other places, but we always want to have. This is our like stable place? You know the world so big. Now it's hard to get places that you can trust yeah. I mean it's hard enough in your hometown. Oh yeah, honestly, but if it's hard here, it's it's being harder yeah, so you know, or you don't know anyone yeah so lay down roots where you know it can be nourished. That'S just what was your grandfather's company? That'S we'll start recipes and she wants to light or he wants to like, take them back, but right now it's just. We have look at once and when she was just he didn't want franchise about those. It meant too much to mediate. Some of you people want franchise, SunTrust, congratulation
