Haircolor; Retouch Gray And Lighten To Match The Base Color

When you choose a haircolor to cover gray; which is to deposit haircolor, and lighten the dark part of the salt and pepper hair, you need to consider a haircolor that would lift and deposit at the same time, which is not so easy. You cannot choose too light of a haircolor, like above level 7, because the gray would not be covered completely (with gray magic it might, but we didn't have it), but the dark color will lift, and below level 7 will cover gray, but will not lift. That is why the chosen haircolor was level 7 neutral, considering the dark and grey hair and the red pigment in the dark; neutral cancels the red undertone. The result was a level 7 golden color. Why gold and not neutral, because, even though the neutral color did cancel some of the red, the red was still dominant and resulted in producing a warmer toned haircolor on the roots. How to cover gray hair. How to deposit and lift at the same time; single color application. This a an instructional haircoloring retouch video for cosmetologists, barbers, beauty school students, hairdressers, hairstylists, salon professionals, and educators.

Okay, this lady has gray hair, but she also has dark color. You can see the dark color all right and she wants to go to that middle base like that natural, but we have to do something to cover the gray, so it cannot be as light, but it has to be light enough to lift this color and she's. Not gon na get high light. She just wants to just continue or now, for now color is so. Our lady's hair is like level 4, a little between 4 and 5 and we need to put level 7 why level 7 because she wants to go to level 6 and if she's level 4. We count 1 2 come here and do the 7 for lifting ok. So this is the hair got. The gray also got the dark. We are going to lift the dark, but then we have to cover the gray so she's here like level 3 and then we're going to go all the way to level 6. That'S our desired result because here's her in between of the highlights there is the 6. That'S what we're trying to the 6 right there in between of the highlights without level 6 hair. There is this level 6 in between the highlights, but the natural is like level 3. 4. So to lift this, we have to mind her red tone underneath so we cannot go and use gold color. We have to use ash color, alright, so she's like three, but it has natural 3. So it has gold and then she wants to be 6, but we have to go a level lighter seven eleven to lift. We can even go eight eleven, but I'm not going to go to eight eleven, I'm just going to bet on seven eleven, because we have to cover gray and when you want to cover gray - and you want the result. Six or five something in between. We have to be seven. If you go higher, the gray would not cover. If we go less, then her roots would not lift so we're just going to stop at 7-eleven Wella and if we need to use higher volume peroxide, we could, but this time I'm not going to I'm going to use 20 volume peroxide. If you think that 7-eleven is too light, it's better to aim for lighter than darker, because if your desired level is there after 20 minutes, you can remove it. If not, there are 25 minutes whatever time. If not, you could just keep lifting, but if you put the darker color, you have no chance of lifting I'm doing the neutral 7/11 because neutral covers gray. That'S what about their tails the tones, the yeah, the tone neutral, is also ash. So I'm not going to do the ash like 672 only because the 11 series, the 7/11 and all of the 11 series are great Busters and we don't have grey magic, so we're going to bust that grey. This is great. Here'S our 7/11 Wella and then we're going to make 7-eleven. Well I hair color, which is a grey Buster with 20 volume, peroxide, it's one and a half ounces. So it's going to be one and a half ounces of product and then three ounces, which is double of the peroxide. It also could be three pounds. So three pumps is three ounces and she's measuring with the measuring cup, and that's going to be mixed with with the color. We need to apply the protective cream around the hairline. We'Re going to apply on the regrowth cover the gray area, from the root to the line of demarkation, take a thin section and then apply on the roots only and we're going to wait for 35 minutes for it to develop. We are still applying on the roots, but the front is already processing it's getting lighter we're getting ready to wash the hair. It looks good color, usually you looks darker than what it is. But if you go closer you see that it has lifted. We extend the cape over the back of the chair, that's it! Ah, Danny buddy hey check the temperature of the water, I'm going to brush the hair first, wash the hair and pendulum since Steven shampoo, her hair. So here's the color matching see how her natural red gold came out and the ash did not interfere with it and it's exactly the color that she has on the base. She decided she's, not gon na color, to highlight, but she can keep this highlights for a long time, because we did not overlap it. If she ever wants to do how long she can, if not, you can just keep it like this. Okay, the hairstyle is almost done all right. We got the hairstyle, it's almost done, it's matching the color. This is our color. Do you like your color

Carlos Ramos: turned out so great!! you're the best mrs. nazelli! miss you guys a ton! please don't ever stop making your videos! you're my number 1 channel to watch on youtube! thank you for everything! you and mrs. laham were the most amazing teachers i've ever had! i'll never forget you two! <3 i'm going to visit the school this week! :) i have my state-board test this friday! :)

Jenny: Thanks so much for the video! I have had ash dark blond most of my life, then as it began to turn grey, salt and pepper with a medium brown. Hairdresser has been highlighting it to cover roots, costing $90 every 2 months. I just can't afford that, so I braved this video and bought root color. 30 min later my hair looked fantastic! For $7.50 I got Loreal 7 "matches any dark blond" Root Rescue which comes with gloves and the applicator is a brush, not 7A (ash). I was prepared for the orange, but it didn't do that. I saw another video that said the 7A doesn't cover grey well, but I don't really know that for sure.

Joe Scott: Thank you so much! Finally someone explained & showed exactly in the way I understand. You are awesome!

Kenneth Rochelle: You two are amazing!!! Coloring hair is so difficult. You guys are like scientists.. Very informative. Thank you

BeautyHealthTravel: The best bet is to color it neutral, because it will cover your gray roots, and it will cancel your red pigment in your level 4 hair color. If you really like copper, then mix some neutral with your copper, even if it is a 1/4 ounce. If you don't mix the neutral with any red/gold color, the gray will pull orange or brighter than the rest of the hair that is not yet gray. Hope this helps.

MissBhoir: you're so talented!!! this client was a challenge and you nailed it! there are so many super popular colorist on YouTube but will always take up a very easy client say virgin hair, or full bleached and then color it. keep up girl! this video was so so helpful! so worth! good job!

Escumadeira: Upvoting because this is actually HELPFUL!!! Thanks a million!!!

Patti Haynes: I love this lady. She is an excellant teacher. Thanks for sharing your experience

BeautyHealthTravel: Oh, I am glad, in fact, whoever has level 6 and lower hair, needs to consider the red tones and must consider high lift colors. Have a blast coloring hair!

humaira fazil: I am new to this coloring world and watch your videos a lot to learn something but a person like me always need a teacher like you and hoping u could also help me like u do to others . I am right now level 4 and wants to go to level in between 5 to 6 . bleached the hair shaft only, not the 2 inch of band near roots cuz I was already trying to achieve level 5 by dyeing box color so color near roots is level 4 and have 60 % grey hair with black boxed dye thats why black wasnt picking any color so used the last resort and bleached my hair shaft only but my hair pulled red color a lot and turned to burgundy red so my stylist toned it with 4 ash and 5 ash (demi petmanemt) toner now I am almost 4 but don't like it at all wants to go to in between 5 to 6.BTW I have naturally black hair. now don't know how to get rid of this 4 level color and achieve level 5 to 6. All hair process was done in saloon. thanks

B H: My roots are between level 3 and level 4 and I have allot of gray. What would you recommend touching up my roots every 6 weeks if I want to cover the gray as well as match the rest of my hair which is a warm light brown level 6?  Please let me know and thank you. The more detail the better.  Also I prefer to use Ion opposed to wella if you can translate what you would use from wella to Ion.

Kim Houser: Great result! Thanks for the video.

Debra Mitchell: Just discovered your site and have watched your coloring videos again. They are great.  This video seems to point out what I did wrong in the exact same scenario. I was doing a retouch with grey and was trying to lighten and match the regrowth, the hair darkened with 6NN from ION and retouched the roots but this did not lift the color. Can you let me know how to fix this.

BeautyHealthTravel: Put 05G from Redken Shades EQ all over the highllights, and watch it develop. Don't leave it long. Remove it when it is the desired carmel color. Shades EQ needs to be mixed with Processing Solution from Redken or with 5-10 volume peroxide, if you don't have the processing solution. 1:1RATIO. GOOD LUCK AND THANKS FOR YOU COMMENT.

Joan Gentile: Beautiful!! ❤

mary wright: hi these videos are really good. can u upload more of hair coloring changing color, covering white hair etc. well appreciated

Onecitizenship: Hi.. thanks for the informative video.. very thoughtful. I have a similar situation. My hair  is turning grey and now my hair doesn't have any color in it. Also I want to ombre and balayage my hair.So I have four questions when I get one answered it contradicts the others, so I as hoping u could help. My hair is almost black and I want to lighten it to L6 or 7  (brown)so I am planning to use a boxed dye of 8 or 9 will it lighten and cover grey (while avoiding golds and ash)? Should I use the L8/9 to cover all my hair or just grey? Should I cover grey first or do the ombre+ balayage ? What colour  ombre shud I do - the one for black to brown or brown to blonde or blonde to light blonde? I want my hair to have an over all brown look with few strands or light brown ombre + balayage hair or, Preferably a black to gradient shades of brown for minimal damage. Plss help. thank you

BeautyHealthTravel: It takes time, but, you will get it. You know what's hard? One formula does not fit all; every one's hair is different and we need to consider the level, the undertone, and the tone of the hair, not talking about the condition of the hair: porosity and the damage. If you have time; get some human hair; haircut leftovers and start experimenting with color; bleach, then color dark, bleach again, color some strips with red and lighten or darken the hair; you will learn fast that way. Good luck!

Bella Rose: I'd do equal parts 6N & 6A with equal parts 30 vol developer (for the 3 levels of lift you want). ^_^

MegaTinni: gray coverage is the gift of gods and keeps us ladies looking young and fresh if we desire so

BeautyHealthTravel: Oh yes! I agree, no more gray!

Phoenix Wings: omg I love this hair color!

Penny Dreadful: Awesome

Artur Vegas: amazing videos!

Carolynn Hawtin: Have been coloring my grey hair with very dark perm color.   Wanting to try to go natural I have about 1/4 mostly grey roots.   What is the best way to go grey?

Phoenix Wings: I bleached my hair and its VERY thin! its breaking off. How can I strengthen it ?

Jane Smith: Good information, thank you!

Neetu Cyprus: Very informative thank you

Sunshine M: I've got a question , I'm natural a level 4 hair color, I bleached got down to a 7/8 cooper tone came out because I didn't leave bleach long enough. So now I'm trying to cover my gray hair with 7A 7N , but the root line pigment keeps come out red/orange tone. So I bought 7 AAA wella with 10 developer to try to fix the red/orange tone line at the root. Please any suggestions to fix the red/orange tone , I like the overall color just the band isn't cute.

AnthonySteve: my hair natural hair level is 2. I want to be a Light Ash Brown hair color, should i use a level 7 to bump it up and get the desired shade? or just use a 6AA? i also have red undertones and want those to cancel out.

BeautyHealthTravel: Thank you!

Vivita14: Finally something that I can understand! I have dark hair (lever 3 or 4) and I wanted to lighten it to a level 7 or 8 (not blonde, just a really light brown) so I decided to buy a medium ash blonde from the drug store. My hair turned out brown and totally redish and I hate it. Can you please help me to fix it? I do not have any grey hairs and before I applied the drug store color, my hair was totally natural. Please help.

dandeleona: I WANT some gray left behind, just not so much my complexion looks grayed when framed by it. But when I use my natural color, it's too intense and lacks highlights even if soft and conditioned, and my scalp has not been dyed to match. I like that my under-dyed gray hair provides highlights so my hair doesn't look like a brown hoodie. I don't mind being 60, I just don't like the color casting it does to my skin which is in pretty good shape, but looks hoar frosted framed in gun metal gray locks. The back is peppered but still my natural color.

chEckiToUt343: So sorry again i forgot to say something, we doed her hair about two months ago with 7A clariol professional liquidpermante haircolor and it turned her roots to a 7 reddish and didnt cover her grays. What do we do. Is there anything that we can possibly to do achieve this allover 7 color?

Diana Stoyanova: My natural color is 6 close to ash. I'm gray blond right now only roots are 6. Looks like shadow roots. But I have white hair and for me is very hard to cover them 100% I had many bad experience. I needed ash effect in roots (without red and yellow) The colors didn't cover them. Last time when I did my roots the hairdresser mixed 45grams 6N+ 5grams grey corrector+ 10vol. The result was good, but it wasn't 100% covering :( And I think the best option is to bleach my roots and then to put the color I wish. What do yo think? Some advice?

Jill Bebe: If she's a 3-4, why did you use 20V to lift to a 7?

Sandra Edmond: I have used leave in conditioner and hair spray do I have to was my hair before I use nice and easy thank you I have done the allergy test .

Deb Iseeu: The cut is awesome too

prince sammi: hi ur videos very very helpful .I have a 50% grey hair and base colour 4N and the rest the hair highlighted like ur model which formula suite for me please answer because im not allowed to go outside for any purpose please answerme

THERESA CRANER: Hello I need your HELP! No professionals like to do videos 4 dyed redheads! I have very long healthy hair and have been a redhead 4 over 20yrs. I have used all professional brands~including unnatural red violets that r used with or without prelightening or developer. My question is now that I am getting some grey hair on natural level 4 how can I match my roots with my red violet tresses without getting hot roots. The last time I had my hair colored by a salon they used Matrix Sored and So color 6rv. The Sored was used on roots which came out much lighter than the rest of my hair! If I have 2 bleach all color from hair because there r so many different brands used over the years I will. I want the bright vibrant Red tones but would not b upset if I had dimension from a darker rv or vr. I just don't like having dark grow out that leads to bright red then dark rv on ends! Plz. Help!!! ps...Have never used boxed dye, only professional colors. I did a pravana bleach wash and after hours of work still had bands of unnatural dark thru middle of hair! I'm thinking it would b best to use levels instead of Scruples Illusionist, Pravana Vivids, Matrix Sored, etc... Respectfully, Theresa~

chEckiToUt343: Hello my mother has 25 percent gray hair and is a natural level 3. She wants to be at a level 6. Her hair was already perviously colored with color 4N from the clariol proffesional line. How can i acheive this level 6 color?
