It may be scary to cut hair you’ve just installed, but blending the extensions is very important to make the hair look believable on your client.

Four Points of Interest

2) Frame face

4) Polish & detail

Remember:

-ONLY cut client’s hair when it is dry, never wet

Hi everyone I'm Carrie with babe. I want to talk to you today about cutting and blending the extensions once they're installed on somebody's hair, cutting and blending. The extensions is essential to creating a polished look when we're all finished. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming or intimidating to cut out a bunch of hair that we just installed on somebody's head, but in order to make the finished hairstyle look believable and movable, we have to reduce some of that weight. First of all, let's take a look at our four points of interest that we use during cutting and blending the extensions number one we want to determine the length the extensions are going to be left when we're all set and done step number two. We want to frame the face by creating a connection between the clients, hair and the bottom of the extensions step. Number three we're going to connect the layers. By connecting the layers we work from one side, all the way around to the opposite side. We hold the hair at a nice natural elevation. We don't want to elevate the extensions too high or too low, and the last step is our polish and detail step in this step. This is where you, as the artist get to add the finishing touches, creating softness and blending the extensions so that they look really really nice when we're all finished. Some of the other things that I like to do when I'm cutting and blending the extensions in order to create a finished look is making sure that I always cut the extensions dry. I never want to cut the extensions wet. I want to be able to see exactly how those extensions are gon na respond as soon as they're cut. I also like to make sure I'm using a nice sharp pair of shears or a nice sharp razor. Sometimes I even switch my razor blade out halfway through the haircut and put a new one in so that I'm always creating a nice soft edge for more ideas and solutions with babe' hair extensions.
