White Girl Wearing Box Braids

Hey guys, so i have a question for black women and men doesn't matter. So if you don't like any other race, but your own wearing box, braids or just simply braiding their hair. Explain to me why and then, if you say you really don't care but then get mad when i braid my hair, please explain why, because i'm not gon na sit up here as a white girl with my hair braided every time i take a damn picture or A video and then put in the caption thank you so much for allowing me to use your culture. It'S just not gon na happen. I know the history behind box braids. All of this is my hair that i did myself, but even if it was fake hair and i went somewhere and they did box braids on me, how is it affecting you? I braid my hair because i, like my hair braided, that's it so you guys can continue to sit up here and hate on me, but it really really shows your insecurities and it doesn't hurt me because i love myself if you're hating on me because of my Hair, i feel bad for you,

Muna Simmer: “I know the history behind box braids”

Arlene Cherono: Imagine the outrage I had when I'm literally looking for "protective hairstyles for 4c hair" and seeing this shiiit

Esther Egbe: Why did I litterly laugh the whole video those ain't even mtf box braids and u calling us insecure?

Itz.kelcie: Just shows that she doesn’t know the “history behind box braids” cause those aren’t even box braids there plats. And we aren’t saying that all types of braids are meant for us because there are types of braid styles that you guys can use (such as French braids and etc.) What is not ok is when y’all claim to know our culture and our history when y’all can care less. And just because you learned a little bit about slavery in high school doesn’t make you “educated”. So please don’t claim to know the history and then call black women insecure for calling you out.

Yoitssmia: i was fine with the question until she started assuming i was hating on her…

Pzdallas: “Black woman, explain-“ talk for 45 seconds

Sol: when her hair fall out she ain’t gonna say nothing

Deborah Castillo: At first I was like slay until she started calling me insecure and assumed I hated her like LIKE GIRLLLLLL

ꨄ♥︎Kiyomi!ꨄ♡: iNSECURE?! PLS- SHE SHOULD SAY THAT TO HERSELF HER HAIR PROBABLY GONE THAT WHY SHE WESRING A CAP-✋

Yaya Girl: The thing is we work hard for our culture to be accepted when we go to school there is a possibility we could be sent home when we wear our own cultural hairstyles we risk not getting jobs we even are called ghetto but when y’all started doing it it was trendy it literally got renamed by y’all when we created it and get judged harshly for wearing our own culture. So while we suffer y’all walk away and don’t even care

Alynisalesbian😧: Hair finna fall out like my dad's past relationships

sam charlton: if you apparently know the history then you wouldn’t be asking this question??

Sam Dale: She just said she knows the history of box braids and those ain't even box braids like she really thought she ate that-

Mikhail Sapphire: As someone of Scandinavian/ Viking Decent I’ve personally worn my hair in Locs before….also had my hair braided and even micro braided before because in history typical Vikings wore their hair as such……a beautiful hair style such as locs, braids, and others should be just that….a hair style…..but you don’t see people of Viking decent downing and making fun of people with locs and braids in their hair…..just sad and pathetic really……

Yogirllaylani E: Girl really telling us we insecure girl it's not our fault y'all just be looking a mess with them braids in y'all head so☠️✋

Bonquiqui: SHE REALLY THOUGHT SHE ATE❤️❤️ They look nice I guess (show us the parts ma'am, I wanna see that scalp) Just wondering if her real hair is still attached to the scalp

starcandii: As a black girl myself(this is my opinion ), it's not that I think it's bad just as long as you don't claim that you invented the hairstyle(looking at you Kim with those Walmart box braids). Also, the braids like cornrows, or box braids can brutally mess up your hair and make it fall out!

• Karynne •: “All of this is my hair, that I did myself” We could tell Emily, we could tell.

ITZURG1RLASIA: "If your hating on my hair I feel sorry for you" we all are honey-

Owami Monana: Okay I got this. So look at it this way : Braids are part of our culture. It's NOT a hairstyle it's my CULTURE. Ofcourse I'll get upset if someone outside of my culture just came and took something from it and just called it "simple braids ". As someone from Africa I wouldn't mind if a white person wanted braids so that they could explore the culture but once they say it's just "simple braids " I'd get mad cause they are so much more than that . So please understand. It's like watching someone take candy from your baby !

Yasmeen Simmons: those “box braids” are hanging on by a thread

Silkily Boba!*: Babes no one’s insecure

C L: Those are not box braids those are strings LOL carry on

Dorothy Page: It’s ok to look at other cultures and admire them but to take one thing or pick and choose what you think looks cute without knowing history or struggles of that culture is wrong.

KJC: You thought you ate-

Ngalula Kanz: I’m black and I’ll explain that those braids look sad just sad and really bad sorry gurl

Naenae': Honestly once you appreciate our culture, understand it, and don’t claim it as yours. You can do whatever you want with your hair. IN MY OPINION.

Vez: She really thought she ate this video up...

Selena: “Allowing me to USE your culture” GIRL PLZ-

Itž Mary: Let me get one thing straight. Braids, you can get them. But when it comes to knots, box braids and such. It does affect a lot of people because your OWN people used to call us ghetto or criticize our hair because it’s not straight like y’all’s. So when y’all start doing it, apparently it’s “okay” and it gives off the wrong message Like schools literally used to ban us from wearing them, and some still do which is sad. Like come on, do better

Poppy's Cool Creations: I agree whenever I braid my hair people say that it’s culturally insensitive like girl I’m wearing two Dutch braids what does that have anything to do with race it’s a hairstyle

lunar fox: I feel like she should be able to wear them without having to put it in a caption everytime, people would braid their hair in white history all the time, and I’m mixed with black and white and personally, I don’t get why race is even still a thing in 2022 but where she went wrong is when she called black people insecure and basically stated she looked better than them, it made me uncomfortable, anyways have a nice day y’all ✨

Kamaria Johnson: Love how you saying that with the hoodie over your head

Jordie Jordie: You didn’t have to add the “This is my hair.” That was unnecessary to your point, which was valid, but you lost me with that back handed insult.

stxr: personally, i think it looks nice on you! i used to have my mom braid my hair in a ton of mini braids. i stopped doing it in middle school because i got a lot of comments on it that made me feel bad. but i think it looks good on you!

Aly & Izzy: "Thankyou so much for allowing me to use ur culture" honey what

Breanna Clarker: Not hate coming from me, just the frustration in knowing that myself as well as many other people of colour got seriously bullied and made to feel as though they could not wear their hair in this way despite it technically being their own style while other people get to wear their hair the same way without the same consequences

queenbee: yes girl finally someone standing up to themselves

Blessings🌹: I'm a woman of color and I never felt anyway I actually give compliments if it really looks good if you never heard black woman say anything like that in person please do not push that agenda because you wearing braids is a beautiful thing maybe it's fake pages or something

Jenn Thomas: "it really shows how insecure you are" she really be calling us insecure LMFAO

R J: People do anything for attention and I'm sure it's already been explained to her before she posted a video. It's not about the braids themselves. It's about how people perceive them. She herself has probably called a POC with braids ghetto just for having them and then she goes to get them but now they're "chic" and "so cute". It should go without saying how that is damaging in society towards certain people. But you can't explaining anything to people like this. They just want your time.

urfavvv: girl, you really got the audacity. i’m happy tiktok banned you.

ItsYaGurlLauryn: You can do whatever you want with your hair but it’s also important that we don’t forget where the hairstyles come from

Amatullah: Can we talk about “our people” wearing the hair that literally came out of somebody else’s head?

Sherlynn Wan: Hey girl you know what wear your box braids cause you like them. People will hate about anything no matter what you do. It’s not cultural appropriation, I’m African and I’ve never cared who gets their hair braided and frankly you don’t need anyone’s approval. I’ve never subscribed to that nonsense. There will always be those who’ll be offended about everything regardless, even if you were to say “thank you for letting me borrow ‘your hairstyle’”in every post they’d say you can’t wear it. I don’t see a problem with it black girls are always wearing weaves and wigs with straight hair! There definitely is double standards. No one hairstyle belongs to anybody frankly that’s just silly. Like it’s not deep. If you came to my country and wanted your hair braided they’d braid it period. Honestly I think it’s pretty cool you like getting your hair braided and I feel proud that more people are liking the style. Like rep!! People are just very racial in North America for some reason. Do you boo! You look great btw! Rock what you want!!

Ms Gonsalves: I have no issues with it ‍♀️ I actually laugh at it. When I see whyte girls get their hair done the way we do using weave, extensions and other additives, it only lasts 2 weeks vs our hair lasting a month and more. They either can’t handle the pain or they don’t know how to maintain/manage the hair itself.

Lena: First of all… to those hating on her braids they’re not bad they just need to be redone. She has a different hair texture obviously and she’s using her own hair so they’ll be thinner naturally….nothing wrong there. (Everyone with box braids knows they get a bit crazy after prolonged wear) Secondly, I’m not mad about her hair. This could be leaning more towards cultural APPRECIATION. I say “could” because… she’s using the correct term “box braids” and she recognizes the culture that predominately wears them. She’s not claiming this is a new style with some other name and she’s not using it to make money. At least from this video she’s not mocking black culture by usage of certain slang and mannerisms that could be attributed to the black community and which she didn’t grow up with. So I don’t think anyone should be saying anything unless what I said above is actually not true in her case. Tl;dr we don’t need to come for her. This is cultural appreciation NOT appropriation

So Helena: of course a white girl braiding her hair WONT affect us directly but it has a deep and special meaning to us, it's not just a cute style that we wear because we think it's aesthetic braids and black styles in general are a form of protest and resistance, also it is a part of who we are and where we came from, a way to connect with our history and ancestors, we feel powerful and proud wearing it, a thing that a white basic girl doing the same thing would never experience. We are NOT "insecure" for pointing out when someone outside our race is wearing it and that we feel disrespected by it, yall ALWAYS try to set black people up by saying that we are jealous, insecure or overreacting when we express our insatisfaction in something yall do that is clearly wrong or offensive but you do you ig, my life is not getting affected by it so i'm good.

ur.mom<3: I was bullied for having braids when I was younger and now seeing the same race that bullied me wear it just don’t feel right. Idk

Nadra` Mohamed: She really thought she ate

Oreo McPlurry: Black girl here: Braid your own hair, I won’t be mad. Buy extensions and then braid your hair with the extra hair, that bothers me.

Umm chile- ….anyways soo: The way the video is named “white girl wearing box braids “ has me dead What a brilliant idea

rayy rayy: I’m sure she is talking to those who have commented in a negative manner to her for braiding her hair. Nothing belongs to a race or culture it’s been around or versions of it from all over the world . Do what you please and do it with confidence. And no one should be offended … it’s great to see others trying out another’s look. If not then everyone dress and wear hair as their ancestors used to!!

‼️EXERBU1A NEEDS TO BE EXPOSED ‼️: Besides the racial implications with your hair type it does look very different than it would on someone with thicker, curlier hair but also over a decent period of time this can damage your hair and scalp there are braids that actually look good on thin hair and if you are gonna wear your hair like this at least be self aware about it and make it look half way decent

Lambsauce but cappy blappy: To people who say that Caucasian hair will fall out immediately, you are wrong. The Nordics invents braids such as dutch and french braids that were designed to be close to the scalp for protection. So were box braids. Don't assume immediately, and educate yourself on other cultures.

Avi King: Idk why ppl getting mad I’m white and I’m getting box braids done. I want to bc they are gorgeous and I love them they look so good and my black friend has agreed to do them for me and I asked her if it is racist and she said as long as I’m not doing it to make fun of them then it isn’t racist and I’m loving her for doing them for me and I’m loving the person who came up with it most of all be I love my hair braided

Maddy Flores: Im Hispanic but very light skin I do this to my hair just to get curly hair

Our Crescent of Gems: Wo, could have shown a bit more decorum and repsect, and been more of a , "This is such a beautiful style that I love to see on women and love how I feel with it on my own head" type of vibe. I am actually getting box braids tomorrow, but because I've always loved how they look and was never aloud as a kid, no matter how much I begged. (Being brought up in a racist family) To me it feels more empowering as a woman to be able do what we want with our body,i.e. oir hair, but I always have complete an utter reason for it. That's where this lady messed up by criticizing over others opinions when they haven't even processed what the message was trying to convey. So instead of the focus be on how pretty she felt she berated others on culture and their personal opinions. I always felt colored women are gorgeous wether they are wearing their own style with their natural hair or not. Beautiful either way. She really could have taken this video through a whole different perspective. I'm mixed, Mexican, white, Native but look practically white, and in my 30's. It took this long to be able to even do this for myself. It is not just an expression of love I am bestowing apon myself but also of love and appreciation for those who brought these styles to even be. * In hopes this actually helps my hair grow a bit while being in braids would be such a nice blessing as well. It's been a struggle.

Caitlyn Smith: ain’t nobody insecure because of your hair with all of that hair coming out of the braids you have A LOT of nerve sis

KasketBase艾米莉: I mean, I understand that it can be hard knowing what to do if you get confronted as a white person wearing black hairstyles

Divine subliminals~♡: I love how everyone is insulting this girl for her box braids and yet a white guy can wear dreads with no problem even though they both cause major damage to white people's hair

Devyn Hall: Girl you look pretty with or without box braids

Mini: She’s very pretty and they really suit her :)

My time: Who's insecure? Last time I checked, we're not the ones, trying to act and look like another race. We embrace our culture, and not try to change into other one, because we think it's cool.

Green Green Green: Being OVERLY SENSITIVE about a different race wearing braids but thinking it's ok for a man to wear longer hair or nail polish MAKES 0.0 SENSE!

Cloudy dayz: I understand how you see this is ok but its kinda offending how we’ve had to go through all these things and working hard for our rights and culture and out culture being stolen from us (also those aren’t box braids)

Taylor Schanbacher: Currently doin locs in my straight white girl hair. I’m following Nordic ways of it to honor them. The definition of appropriation needs to be posted on billboards

Chapelle B: Before you get your braids think of the history of them and why as black men and women would get upset about it. We changed it from something undesired to a beautiful work of art and history.

reslynn malik: Please carry on! As a black person, I assure you that these braids look ass on you and no matter who you go to, or where you show off these braids, no one is in fact insecure. We’re sorry for you and how you walk around with these tacky shits. :DD

Faith: Lol...I'm Black...and I once got in an argument with a Chinese lady who hated white girls wearing braids...she was more " offended" or bothered by it than I was. ( my argument was people can wearing their hair however) Not all of us care that deeply!! But please get it right, those aren't "box braids"

Kyla Igori: how do you say your entitled without say your entitled. she obviously doesn't know the history behind braids

Ronnette Buchanon: I’ve got to say you look so cute. Don’t let anyone bother you or touch you with that nonsense

Perfect☆Preppies: Im laughing so much because i see this after i take out my box braids (im black dont worry)

Bee Bee: If anyone can reply me I’d really appreciate it, Im Brazilian- brazilian culture is latinXafro There’s looooots of brazilians who braid their hair Its also built into our culture simply because our cultures are mixed (including religion etc) What’re your opinions? Personally I love braids, when i was little i used to get my hair braided sometimes But i would hate to offend people Although its integrated into our culture too Thank you in advance for any answers!

Amazinglynn: I wanna see the whole thing. She only shows half or has her hoodie on. Turn around sis let’s see the back

Kc Thorpe: Simply braiding your hair is fine like two braids or one braid that’s ok we just ask that if your not black don’t wear box braids because it’s our culture but instead of listening you gaslight us and disrespect us and continue to do it out of ignorance. Plus it will make bald since it’s not for your hair type <3

Duxtu: Btw those are plats and not box braids-

Aylin: I never got when people become annoyed with using smth from their culture. I become so happy when I see people eating food from our culture or wearing clothes from our culture. Maybe some people like to be stuck in the victim role I don’t even know

Gojo satoru: Tbh- I honestly think any race can wear the braids I’ve seen people on videos talk about how they shouldn’t because they don’t understand where the braiding comes from and the culture behind it and some saying that others should because it lets others know that you guys are embracing the style and so on but me personally I just think it doesn’t go with certain people I mean she definitely did not pull it off I’ve actually seen some just a few white woman pull it off but there hair just isn’t exactly meant for those type of braids it’s more for frizzy curly hair or curly hair in general I mean there has been a point in my life where I’ve tried to do this as well but it doesn’t fucked up my hair even worser so I wouldn’t recommend doing it with straight hair.

🌺 ADDYS_Life: Bc ppl like us have the hair to do it and make it stay I don’t care what you do just don’t sit here and ask for a explanation when you know the answer

Mbali Bekezulu: It's not that we are insecure. In fact I'm sure most of us thinks it suits us better, but If everyone starts braiding their hair it takes away the uniqueness of it. It stops representing us as black people. I hope you understand where we are coming from and remember to be sensitive about our culture, cause lashing off at us isn't the way to do it

Niecey M. Author: Exactly!!! Exactly all of what you said. And I think it looks good on you,

carlynicole: “THATS IT” really got me!!!

Will Byers: As a white girl myself I find everything she said racist and besides that all of her hair gonna fall out she really had the nerve

a Mum of 2: You look beautiful. Ignore the haters. No one needs permission to wear a hair style.

Itsyahgirltay: no one is insecure

Ensyna Medina: I've always wanted box braids because I love them they are so beautiful it's just my hair is to long just to put it out there I'm half white and half Hispanic and I've had my hair braided many times just not box braids like i said my hair is to long.

ꨄ♥︎Kiyomi!ꨄ♡: I love how she said ‘i know the history behind “box braids” ‘ but she clearly dosent because shes using a culture as a style and africans did it to protect their hair and plus this bch dosent even know what box braids mean those are plats

Mr Ozzy: You be yourself Girl ✌, wear what ever you want as long as it makes you happy , don’t let haters get you

Del Lee: You look pretty with or without braids

860 Vlog: I'm not even black but ima have to settle this as a third party race of both of y'all which is latin I think personally if a person chooses to be mad at you wearing box braids cuz culture they not wrong and they ain't insecure you just flaunting your privelage with this video if you don't want a race to care don't attack them about it

luvparis: We aren’t hating on you and we aren’t insecure, you clearly do not know the history behind the braids. When a black girl goes to a job interview let’s say to apply for an office job they wouldn’t get it. The manager who is interviewing you *or someone else* they will say sorry you aren’t getting the job because of your hair or they would say it’s unprofessional but it’s not. And then when a white girl goes to a job interview wearing box braids they would get the job and be embraced for wearing braids this girl doesn’t understand. I am not hating but I am very frustrated with this girl. She doesn’t know the history at all…

Aniya Byas: Lowkey she got a point tho, especially if she kno our history… but I think some blck ppl get mad bc they feel that they don’t know what we went thru

a Mum of 2: Copied from a forum, by a bi-racial poster: First, let me start by stating that I am a proud biracial woman (African American father and white mother). I have naturally curly hair that I wear straightened half the time and I have blond highlights. I probably am going to upset some people with this answer but this is my opinion: If we want to get technical and get upset about white girls wearing braids and afros, then in my opinion, white girls have an argument with us straightening and dying our hair that is not naturally straight. I have always found this to be hypocritical that people bully white girls that choose to wear braids when we are getting our hair relaxed or pressed. I think it is flattering and inclusive in most cases that people are intermixing styles and I personally do not feel that a hairstyle should be a cause for division. I know there are some situations of cultural appropriation or insensitivity that should make people upset, for example dressing in a Native American headset that symbolizes something we do not fully comprehend. However, a hairstyle should not evoke bullying. It broke my heart to hear a kindergartner was bullied to the point of having to be picked up from school in tears because her mom put her hair in braids at the little girl’s request to match her best friend’s hair. This is not okay!

Madi Bessinger: " I know the history behind box braids" those are not box braids

ari: we get mad bc we get denied jobs, bullied, and degraded just for the way we wear our hair. whether is be with fake hair or real. but the minute a white person does it, it’s okay. it’s our culture. some of us even braid our hair bc we are scared of what other ppl will think of our real hair. or it’s “hard to manage”. the thing is, you have hair that is manageable; it doesn’t shrink, isnt hard to deal with, isn’t coily asf, & doesn’t tangle easily. what is the point of getting them other than the fact to mess w us. there is no stigma behind ur STRAIGHT hair. so let us be. when we get it, it’s ghetto or weird. BUT YOU GUYS LITERALLY COPY US. very hypocritical. just wear ur own hair boo.

Santana Hinoke: she had a question and ended up bashing everybody? ms girl was so proud of them thin ass 3 strands of hair

Queen Cece: I just knew this was gonna be funny

ميمونة هوساوي: I am a black girl and you are absolutely right ✅️

{Little Era}: “It really shows your insecurities” is bad to have insecurities
