The Verdict With Judge Hatchett | What The Hair & Friendship Fuse

A dispute between sisters over hair extensions; neighborhood fireworks lead to property damage.

All Rise, I want viewers watching my show to believe in themselves. Judge Hatchett is compelling. I was not the first one to throw a walk. Let me just tell you what you just said: compassionate, I really enjoy being a judge. Now I am touching people who I will never know. I touched she's powerful. You should have never none of them walk and walk through and she's on the bench. Don'T get me preaching up in here today, right you're, watching the verdict with Judge Hatchett Soraya Haynes is suing Linda Haynes in the amount of six hundred dollars. Ms Haynes claims her hairstylist's sister, installed the wrong extensions and wants the defendant to reimburse her for the cost of the hair. I understand that you're suing your sister for six hundred dollars and you're very upset with her about this. You all couldn't work this out before you got here. No, your honestly couldn't work it out. No, all right so tell me, and how do you pronounce your first name Soraya, so right, all right, Soraya start by telling me what happened. Well, I asked I asked her for a style that I want the hair to be longer, because I had an event that I had to go to for work. What kind of event well I'm into real estate? Okay and I need to be real polished - and you know professional for this event, because I'm networking with other people that's going to allow me to make more money, sell, bigger houses, more expensive houses, all right so you're in real estate, and this is a big event. Yes - and you need to look very professional - yes, you, obviously they must be a hairstylist. Yes all right, so you know I. I know well enough that this is not just about the six hundred dollars. No, it's not so when I just started again, who wants to tell me who wants to tell me at the beginning about this relationship I'll tell you okay! Well, her father, we have the same dad said her. Dad was married to her mother first, okay, his my dad our dad left her mother for my mother and married, my mother, okay. So when I came along, she was already five years old okay. So there was always this thing, this competition with us. It was not about competition, she felt the way she act toward me was like. Maybe he favored me because I was the youngest child. That'S a lie. Tell me tell me what you think Linda there was no competition. I was an older sister. I love my sister. No matter what my sister got treated the same way I did, but she took advantage of it. She didn't appreciate it. She thought she was better than and felt more entitled because she was younger. You know the baby of the family, but whatever was done for me or with me same thing with her, but she never said. Thank you. She had no thanks. What'S let me ask you this so, okay, let's go back, you have the same father. Yes, your mother and your father had you yes, then, five years later he left my mom. He left your mom and went to her mom and went to her mom, and so are you living with them? Eventually we did live together. Um, her mom eventually died, and that's when I took on a better role of being a bigger sister, okay, because her mom passed away so stop right. There is there any resentment about the fact that your dad left and went to her mom. It was a little resistance yeah. It was her honestly. I could see that yeah. It was a little resentment but her mom passed and I wanted to make sure I'd be there for her. You know she's a younger sister. She has nobody older. So I was there for somebody, you know, that's really all right a lot of women in the situation, who would say: oh the hell, with her right. No, you know it has nothing to do with us. She did well why the hell are you in my courtroom, because she insisted that I get this hair extension? Okay, because I wanted my hair longer for this event. Okay start back there, because you didn't just go to her the first time for this hair extension. No she's been doing my hair for the past five years because my mother died and she took that big sister role really was there for me. She knew I was a college student at the time. I didn't have money, so she was a hairdresser. She said. I would do your hair free of charge for you all. I would charge you is 15 for the color, which is normally fifty dollars, but just give me fifteen dollars for the color I'll. Do your hair for you. So you go not one year, not two. Not three, not four, but five years, five years. She basically did it for free for free. So what happened? Well with the hair extension of you are well the hair extension. She said: okay! Well, I know how to get the hair. I don't know where to get it from, but it's going to cost you 600.. That'S right! There go ahead. Mind you over the last five years. You know as we get older. Our hair starts to thin. She wanted to blame me that her hair was thinning because I was brushing kind of hard. It was, but it just it's an it's an it's an it's a natural normal thing. You lose your hair as you get older, but she wanted this big elaborate. Full head of hair, all of a sudden for this one event, I told her to get that hairstyle. It would cost you 600 worth of extensions, and she said that's no problem. I want that hair and she gave me the six hundred dollars and she said it magically appears that magically appeared. She never was able to pay you in the class never in the past, but she had the 600 for this hairstyle and when I ordered the hair, the company called me and said they didn't have the exact hair that I ordered so me being a hair stylist For all these years years, I took it upon myself and my better judgment all right. This is, what do you have that's comparable right? They told me something comparable. I said yes, I will use this. The hair came, and the day of the event was when sister Soraya comes in, to get her hair done and she sees the hair and immediately complains about the hair. It wasn't the hair I wanted, but she still was getting it done for free and I made sure, as my sister she never left unsatisfied or not looking good. I made sure she looked good every time she left, because it was my reputation coming up on the verdict with Judge Hatchett. How did you look when you left come on? How did you look, I didn't like it? She came back the next day and said she wanted her money back after I put the hair in her head. She wanted her money back and later when they moved the fireworks down the road. All of a sudden, I hear an explosion by my house outside, so I went back outside. I saw my carport and my shed on fire closed captioning, provided by the verdict with Judge. Hatchett is back with the case of Soraya Haynes, who is suing her sister, Linda Haynes, for reimbursement of funds. You come in and you see the hair and what happens was it the hair? I wanted it was it long. It was very short. It didn't give me any volume like I wanted, because my hair was thinning and all that all right. So what happened with that, when I told her that the the manufacturer didn't have the exact hair right? This is what I chose. That was comparable right. Do you want it? She was a little hesitant, but the event was in a few hours, so I she said well, can we send it back? It would take time to send it back and get new hair yeah. So you couldn't have gotten it because right the same day, it wasn't the same day thing and you shouldn't have gotten it within the four hours she decided. Well we're go ahead and use it. I promised her that it would look good. I was not going to let her leave looking bad stop right there, so you didn't like the hair. No did you agree to have her put in the extensions using that hair anyway, talk to me talk to me only because I didn't have a choice. Yes, I was on my way to the party. Well, you did have a choice: to get the hair that didn't have a choice herself to get the hair that I didn't want, because she said she went her best decision as a hairdresser to get the hair that she thought was a good substitution. I guess I could have just did your regular hair but wait judge it gets better. Oh, it gets better. Yes, she left. She was satisfied when she left maybe not fully satisfied. How did you look when you left come on? How did you look? I didn't like it, you didn't like it no, but she came back the next day and said she wanted her money back. That'S why we're here today after I put the hair in her head, she wanted her money back. I mean you can't return the extensions. You know I'm just asking her: can you at least give me half the money back or anything, give me five years. She said, no, I'm not doing nothing. She gave me attitude, so I said. Okay, well, fine. Give me all my money back. This is not the hair. I wanted five years. I should be suing you well free hair, five years. I appreciate everything she did for me. I really do you really, but it wasn't the hair. I wanted wait, wait. What did you say one more time? Would you just I appreciate everything she did for me, never told me that wait say it again say it again. I appreciate everything my sister did for me. Well, why are you in my courtroom back for my hair that I didn't want? Oh you're, not gon na get any money back. Hmm you're, not gon na get a dime in here today. Thank you come on. She did the best she could. If she had not. She had said: okay, I'm going to cancel the order. There would be no hair in time she did the best she could. She used her judgment. Yes, and you made the decision. You made the decision to put it in that day, you could have had your hair done. I mean you know, come on, you could have had it done and maybe it wouldn't have looked exactly like you wanted to look, but it would have been nice. Your sister wasn't going to let you go out looking crazy, never never, because she's never done that. Has she? No, she hasn't you, they always look fabulous every time you have sat in her chair. Yes, yes, for how many years, five years, when I stand up, that's not a good sign. Oh, and you may be glad, I'm not coming down there. Oh, she has loved you and she supported you and she's gone far beyond what a sister could do your mother's gone. She is the female figure in your life and you're gon na treat her like this. Are you crazy? Do you know how many women would love to have a sister who cared about them? The way she has cared about you when she could have been resentful, she could have been hateful. She could have been vindictive toward you, although it wasn't your fault that her father ended up with your mother for five years. She did your hair without charging. You didn't like the extensions she did, the best she could. She could have sent those back that day. She could have sent them back for a refund. You said no, I want them in here. I want them in here. It was the last minute well, because your ass went in there at the last minute. Hey you went in there at the last minute. Don'T listen! Get them out of here you're, not getting a dime we're standing adjourned. I appreciate you, I appreciate you thank you who you are and what you have been to her and one of these days. She'S gon na understand how much you mean her, but in the meantime she can't come in the shop in another six months. Okay, the next time she comes to the shop you better charge, a full price, we'll stand adjourn. Your case is dismissed. Judge Hatchett has ruled in favor of the defendant. The plaintiff's claim has been dismissed. Well, I hope you learned your lesson. You can't just go around taking advantage of people, but you know what I still love you and you shouldn't have bought me to court. You know what I appreciate everything you did for me. That'S not what I wanted. You should have got the hair that I wanted coming up for the months leading up to this. I have been contacting Mr Cummings about replacing his shed and his carport. Everybody on the block has an updated structure shed and carport um, with the exception of Mr Cummings, closed captioning provided by Alexander Cummings, is suing Marcus Jameson in the amount of 769 dollars. Mr Cummings claims fireworks at his neighborhood potluck, caused his carport and shed to catch on fire and says Mr Jameson is to blame. I understand Mr Cummings, that you are neighbors with Mr Jameson. Is that correct? That'S right, your honor, and that you had some damage to your property. What happened? Please? What happened? Uh? They had a potluck in the summertime and they had fireworks. So, like a potluck, everybody in the neighborhood, everybody in the neighborhood came together and they had a potluck and they were using fireworks potluck. Well, it probably is you know, but I don't usually attend those uh. Why not? Well I'm a truck? I was a truck driver and I just I wasn't available to be there and you know I you know so I just keep to myself normally and I understand that there was damage to your property. Is that correct? There was your honor and what happened? What was damaged uh? What happened is uh, here's a photograph of what happened here. Thank you. What happened is uh on that day that they were having the fireworks, potluck, goodness yeah uh. I was inside my house and I heard a lot of noise, so I went outside and I looked and I saw them at the edge of my driveway and I asked to move because I you know it might so they were doing the fireworks at the edge Of your driveway driveway it'll make a lot of noise and I you know I was inside doing something else. I wanted them to move now. What happens is when they moved the fireworks down the road right? I went back inside and all of a sudden I hear an explosion by my house outside like a whistle, sound and then a big bang and I go Oh, I thought they had moved. You know so. I went back outside. I saw my carport and my shed on fire coming up. We did a firework and we heard it whistle, but it went off. Then we heard a bang. Then we could see like a light and his uh carport a blaze, closed captioning, provided by the verdict. With Judge, Hatchett is back with the case of Alexander Cummings, who is suing Marcus Jameson for property damage. So what was your response? I mean this seems like a pretty horrendous fire. It is, it is, and so tell me do you not bear any responsibility for this? Well, when we were setting off the fireworks, it was kind of windy that night. So during maybe like 20 seconds before his his shed and the carport caught on fire um, we did a firework and we heard it whistle, but it went off and then we heard a bang. Then we could see like a light and his uh carport Ablaze. Continuing from there all the his uh dry brush and his lawn kind of got caught on fire too well, but the structure structures. Yes, that's the testimony. What are you gon na say that you know I was outside and and they came running up and they were helpful in the situation it's gon na, be my next question. I was gon na hope that they would be helpful yeah, they were there and they they got some water and a hose, and they hosed down my house and then the fire department showed up and it contained you know the fire investment. Thank goodness it didn't burn. My house in your house yeah, you know that's why we ask you this: how did you come up with this figure? 769? I wouldn't understand that. Well, here uh my insurance paid for the replacement of the uh, the carport and the shed and here's the check that they sent me all right. And what I'm sewing for is the deductible that I had to pay for the loss of my product. All right, which was uh 769 dollars all right. Do you not feel any responsibility for this? Avoiding the months leading up to this, I have been contacting Mr Cummings about replacing his shed and his carport. Everybody on the block has an updated structure shed and carport um, with the exception of Mr Cummings judge Hutch, it's verdict when we return promotional consideration provided by so it's your contention that you had notified him a couple of months earlier that he needed to update his Property, I mean you can't control what's on his property right? Well right, so do you agree that, had it not been for fireworks that night that his ship would not have burned down in his carport, I don't agree. You don't agree. Tell me why you don't agree. I think had Mr Cummings replaced his shed and kept his house and everything up to date. As far as like our standards and everything tell you to, then the fire would have been well. It sounds like you are a bit of an elitist and maybe a little bit of a snob. So I'm going to tell you exactly what's going to happen, Mr Jameson you're going to have another potluck dinner, honey and people are going to have to pay to come to the potluck dinner. You all need to raise the money. I don't care how you raise it, but you've got 60 days to come up collectively, with the 769 judgment in favor of the plaintiffs will stand adjourned. Thank you for your honor. All Rise Judge Hatchett has ruled in favor of the plaintiff. The defendant has been ordered to pay 700 sixty nine dollars. You heard the judge next time. You have a potluck, bring me a plate and pay me my money. That'S fine I'll pay you, but you make sure you keep your house as well as your lawn up to code.
