Hair Care Tip #1 No Longer than 2 Months at a Time!

Wearing a Box Braids or Single Braids Extensions for an extended period of time can serve as a protective hairstyle for your hair but if you leave your weave or extensions in for longer than 2 to 3 months, its possible to have tangled hair or worst, matted hair.

Hair Care Tip #2 For some, Locs usually begin to show signs of loc'ing around 2 to 3 months.

Forming locs takes more manipulation than the manipulation placed on installed box braids. Palm rolling condenses your hair to further form your loc and with this consistency in a span of about 2 to 3 months, many people notice that their locs are locd or the are beginning to loc.

Hair Care Tip #3 Mark your calendar for weekly hair care maintenance.

How often do you perform your hair regimen? Do you shampoo wash your hair weekly or bi-weekly? Do you "co-wash" (conditioner wash your hair) weekly or bi-weekly? Incorporate the same practices when taking care of your box braid extensions to prevent dry hair and dandruff problems. In some cases as well, if you constantly have a moist scalp because you work out, sweat often, or swim without thoroughly drying your hair, its possible that your hair will smell like mildew or mold.

Hello, everyone: this is Breanna Rutter, author of the book, the natural hair Bible and founder of howtoblackhair.com, and for these videos I love to answer the questions. You all send me via email. So any of you have any questions you like for me to answer be sure to check out the description box below for additional information, so we gon na get right on into this. Video in this video is a response to an email. I received candy candy emailed me because she wants to know how long is too long or a good time frame to keep in her box braids. She says that she can get them done as frequent as possible because the availability of her stylist. So she wants me to give her some tips as far as how to maintain her hair when it's too long to leave and just give her everything that there is enough to help her to keep her hair healthy in the meantime as well. So thank you for sending me that email and I completely understand that. Sometimes especially when you have a good stylist, it can be hard reaching them at a more convenient time for you. So what I want to do is tell you: how long should keep them and how long is too long and give you some tips as far as how to maintain the look of your style sp. The first thing that I'm going to say is that when wearing box, braid extensions and the same thing applies to any other style, do not leave your install and anywhere longer than 2 to 3 months. The reason why I always say 2 to 3 months is because everyone's hair is different if you notice that your hair has a tendency to tangle frequently or you have to really take your time. Your detangling, your hair, your hair, is the type of hair they could easily get tangled and matted, and the reason why the 2 to 3 month frame as there is because you're losing a lot of hair's everyday. Naturally, your shedding anywhere from 80 to 100 hair's a day so of you out of all those hairs every single day from the span of 2 to 3 months, that's a lot of shed hair and because you went box braids, your shed hair doesn't have anywhere to Go so what happens? It all gathers right there at your root. This is what leads to a lot of matting a lot of tangles and what a lot of people take down a style that the long time oftentimes is. Sadly true. A lot of stylists get blamed. People who may have taken down the hair get blamed for being a lot of breakage tangling, because all the hair is trapped there at the roots of your hair. So when you're leaving your hair in or your install in for extended amount of time, you have to be very careful how you going to the table your hair when you do take down your braids so anywhere around the 2 to 3 month. Time frame is perfect to making sure your braids arent installed too long to where it's becoming matted and another reason as well, which is my tip number two as to why always say two to three months, is because, typically speaking, this is that timeframe to where locks Will begin to lock or start lock when you're, locking your hair, there's things that has been taken place to make sure that the core of the loc, it's very tight, so that it doesn't unravel over time as time goes on when you're always palm rolling your locks And making sure to tie them up at night and stopping them from becoming frizzy when you continue to condense the hairs and palm roll them, it will eventually make the hair is tighter. Now the situation with your box braids are not home, rolling your braids or you're, not constantly twisting them, so you won't actually do the locking technique, but because all of your hair is gathered in a little area from where shed, it will begin to clump, and so Because, typically speaking, it takes anywhere from 2 to 3 months for locks to actually that's a timeframe. I never want you to go over and leaving your braids in your hair just to make sure that your roots are not locking. The last thing I'm going to suggest is that, yes, I know it's hard to get you stylist and I don't know how busy life is what you have a lot of responsibilities to take here. But what I want you to do is to make sure that you have a weekly regimen or a biweekly regimen, and this will depend on how you normally take care of your hair without extensions, so whether your hair is relaxed or natural or whatever state your hair Is in when you're taking care of your hair, how often do you shampoo? Do you shampoo every week? Do you shampoo twice a week on how often do you co, wash with your hair? You have to co wash every couple of days once a week incorporate what you're already doing with your hair with your extentions, but with your box braids make sure that all the products that you use to cleanse your hair condition your hair to keep your hair healthy. Are liquefied so that way can effectively reach your hair and scalp and easily be rinsed out when it's time to rinse out those products from your hair when you're doing things like deep conditioning in shampooed, and I've mentioned this a lot as far as how to maintain Your hair and styles, because I get this asked quite frequently and always want to make sure to reinnerate in different ways if I can't how it can how it apply with styles. So because you specifically asked me about box braids, that's why I am giving you details on how to keep your hair healthy and maintain it and what things to consider and as far as how long to keep the style in so you can keep it. And for as long as you want that's up to you, but I suggest no longer than two or three months just to be said so make sure you have your regimen in place to maintain your hair in between those visits, as well as make sure to take Your braids down, when it's reaching that point in time when necessary. So thank you for sending me that question. I hope this question is also have everyone else was watching as well before any of you go make sure to check out my description box and sign up for my email list, because only their you will be receiving exclusive content. So until then I'll see you all in my very next
